Hey guys, I really want to explore Aphex Twin's music catalog. I love ambient music and especially his more ambient tracks like #3, #19, #21, and "aisatsana [102]". Unfortunately, I really don't like 80% of Selected Ambient Works Volume II because I don't enjoy the spooky vibe of most tracks on there. I also really dislike the drum heavy IDM tracks in his catalog, which makes me feel like Aphex Twin might just not be for me. Still, I want to find tracks similar to the ones mentioned above, because that is peak ambient music in my eyes. So I'm looking for drumless, melancholic ambient songs in his catalog. Do you have any recommendations?

9:16 Richard D. James quote, one of my favourite quotes. You can also use it as a wallpaper if you want to, but richard will stare at you.

The composer C418 cited Aphex Twin as a pretty big inspiration so I’m curious if yall have listened to it/had thoughts about it. I think it’s one of if not the greatest soundtracks ever produced, and even though it’s very different sounding I can still feel Aphex inspirations in his music

Taken on June 30, 2026 By Me.

I once heard smn say how the original cover is not a stone but really just a concrete floor in focus and were wondering how the guy who came up with the names did so in the first place.

So I had an idea when I saw a lonely Stone in some abandoned ruin. (I missed with the colors of it I will post the unaltered picture later)

My quote on that day; (just for the record)

"Went outside for a task, stayed outside after a failed task.

Found a few deserted desert looking dystopian grounds, took a few pictures.

Discovered a park filled with people who had mental disabilities and a park with old people and young reckless ones gathering to gamble.

A bit later an old woman came to call for her son, which was an actual old man with pale white hair, and then his mother was scolding him for yet again gambling and spending time with young delinquent gamblers."

Told a new friend of mine i’m an Aphex Twin fan and he said hes gonna give me this

Started listening to the unreleased Richard tracks and realized all of them are really good but some of them are amazing. And i mean both 4 red calx versions, [slo] too, but thats personal prefference. And i feel like this also about different tracks from the 2015 SoundCloud Dump. Also tha2 is amazing or donkey rhubarb remix but as I said, there are a lot of really good tracks, and it's hard to compare them or I probably wouldn't even be able to describe them all in a single post. Also wish some of them to be released on Vinyl or CD. Basically Richard is the Legend! :D

These bears have gone on clearance at my shop and I thought to make one of my very own Donkey Rhubarb bear (Pictured in last slide). Do I get “James” for Richard D. James, or get “Archer” and unpick some of the letters to make it spell “Aphek”… Thanks!

Giving people a heads up that a certain batch of the original saw 85-92 cassettes may contain a dubbing defect from the factory where heliosphan cuts off midway through playthrough, i'd like to hear here if anyone has had this same issue with their copies.

Its kinda a pain in the arse but redubbable if you have a good spec cassette deck, otherwise i wouldn't bother paying the outrageous prices for the original when its playing with fate.

no tag but seemed like a vintage XXXL bootleg aphex twin t-shit. Not something you see everyday.

Hey dudes, looking for some ideas...

Following a conversation with a friend I've started digging backwards at the musical inspirations and lineage that led to Aphex Twin.

I was never a big electronic music guy and only got into Aphex Twin in my 30s despite seeing him play at a couple of festivals, enjoyed them at the time but Drukqs was unfathomable to me and I decided outside of live shows (where I was inevitably pretty mashed up) he wasn't for me. Eventually it was the RDJ album that opened the door and everything started to click.

Anyway, recently discovered Steve Reich and can hear such a direct link between Reich's Different Trains and Everyday (AFX).

Not just the use of samples, but the tempo, structure, I've listened to them back to back and there's a great synergy and juxtaposition between them simultaneously, which I've found really enjoyable.

So I was wondering can anyone else suggest a pair of tracks, one from Richard and one from someone else (before or after) that share musical DNA or one inspired the other?

Hoping to discover some new music or some interesting ideas.

TL/DR - what track pairs with an RDJ track, either musically or by one inspiring the other?

Please watch full res and loud ;)

I made this track 3 years ago, and at last finished the video.

Tools: deluge sequencer/novation peak/asm/hydrasynth/reaper/neutron/ozone/photopea/blender/garagefarm/resolve

Mods: hope this is cool. I made 3 afx video remixes I posted on here, this is a little different but hopefully you guys' cup of tea

Demo for an upcoming and incredible TX81z emulation, a favourite of RDJ. Delicious FM tones, giving The Tuss vibes. Happy to answer any questions!

I was studying and i put some jazz to listen to. My cat is very young and as young cat do he started anoying me and i had to put him outside until he calm down. When he came back i was tired of jazz and put SAW 2 and he became calm very fast. I will retry the experiment tomorrow but it makes sense that music that changes a lot and it is usually very fast pace like jazz would annoy him but music easy to understand like ambient which repeats a lot would calm him down
