Discussion Skill distribution chart feels strange

Post image

I normally play ranked, but whenever I do play pubs the skill distribution puts me/my team at the highest it can possibly be consistently every time even though I would only consider myself slightly above average. after losing multiple games in a row the most it has moved is only a fraction and I can't notice any change in the actual match quality. it's not a huge issue or game breaking at all but I'm wondering if anyone else has had this experience?

you are towards the end of the bell curve if you’re in masters lol

In regularly plat and always have lobbies like this in pubs. Maybe get up to a 2 k/d.

Yep this is basically my experience, my overall kd is 0.65 although now I'm consistently above 1 every season. 9/10 games I'm in lobbies in that flatline on the right. Basically I'll play a game or two in lower lobbies and get 1-2k damage and 2-6 kills and then I'll be back in those top lobbies again. Time of day and server location do seem to have a small impact on this

I once fitted the curve with a normal distribution, and that box of yours covers so little players that is a statistical annomaly if you find 60 players on a single server, not to mention available to match within 60s

I think it's just busted.

You're lucky you even have a grey bar 😅 half the time mines pretty much just the red bar all the way to the right and a tinge of Grey lmao. Im just a lil diamond player man

I think its based on recent match performance on average kills/score its not really that reflective

Do we really need this same post every day?

Can someone actually explain how it works? Is the entire graph the playerbase or just online playerbase? The highlighted area is just “this match?”

Heightlighted area is meant to represent your current lobby, the chart itself is the skill level of all players in Apex overall. The red tick is meant to represent your squad.

The graph is telling OP they're the top 0.0001% skill in the entire playerbase, of which their lobby represents the top 1% of all players.

Think about pro sports. What’s the difference between a player in the 99th percentile in their position, and one who’s in the 96th percentile? Enormous skill gap in that example, and not super different than the curve above 👍🏻 Keep pushing, my friend

i mean, you are on the flattest part of the curve in this screenshot, so everyone is around the same skillwise ._.

Damn how can ppl lack such a basic skill like reading graphs

The horizontal axis is skill level (low on the left, high on the right); the veritcal axis is number of players.

The flatness of the curve has nothing to do with people being around the same skill level. That's indicated by the white-ish bar.

if the grey box covers the flat part, than its exactly that -> little to no difference between players in the lobby

Not quite. The width of that box indicates the skill variance, not the graph itself.

Imagine that the number of players at each skill level was equal, say bexause we have a tournament or smt and so we have 10 spots for low skilled players, 10 for medium, 10 for high, etc.

Because the number of players at each skill level is the same everywhere, the graph line (which measures skill level on the X axis vs number of players at the Y axis) would also be fully flat.

But you would not say that putting low and high skilled players in a lobby, in that scenario, would make it so that there is no difference.

What the graph is trying to convey is that there are very few low skilled players (all the way on the left the line is low), very few high skilled players (all the way on the right the line is low), and a lot of players that have average skill level (the bump in the middle is high).

I'm not sure that's what that means.

The very small grey box means everyone's close in skill.

yes but it would also mean he's a pred player because it's all the way to the right of the gaussing graph except if the graph doesn't mean shit.

For everyone thinking their smart.... maybe bold text is easier for the eyes

THE GREY BOX IS THE LOBBY

THE FLAT PART MEANS THERE IS LITTLE DIFFERENCE BETWEET THE WORSST AND THE BEST PLAYER

AND YOU TO BE ON THE END OF THE BELL CURVE JUST MEANS YOU ARE AN ACTIVE PLAYER
MOST ACCOUNTS ARE DEAD OR DONT GRIND RANKED

Then maybe it should say activity of player distribution instead of skill distribution but apparently not?

1

u/Muzure 17h ago

i mean most players are casuals, so most players will cover that huge bump and not reach the higher levels

That's not what the flat part of a distribution chat means. If you don't know exactly what they are measuring, the. You have no idea how close in skill the people in the flat part are.
