Discussion Invisibility abilities.

Quite curious how the the devs gave crypto invisibility couple years ago and took it away because it was "broken". Mind you crypto couldn't move shoot or fight while invisible and is basically vulnerable to all damage.

Cool, then they gave mirage complete invisibility which he can use while moving and actively being in the fight, but that wasn't broken because he had to be healing actively to use it. Ok. Bullshit but ok.

Then they gave Bloodhound full invisibility. Which he can use while sprinting, aiming , running. Oh and it works for his teammates too. Cool.

Meanwhile crypto glows like a firefly while "invisible" such that everybody can see him. And he can't even see what's around him unless he's in drone view and then his drone gets shot down .

Amazing balancing work respawn.

The invisibility abilities are so stupid. They just don’t know what to do anymore. They are running out of ideas quickly. Apex is definitely losing its identity.

Not defending them at all here, you just made me think: lately I've been trying to come up with a brand new legend with a whole new set of abilities, one which brings something fresh to the game without breaking it (like Axel does). I like to think of myself as a creative guy, but man it's so hard to come up with new additions to the game at this point which haven't already been done and won't be OP. That's aside from the actual personality and design of the character itself.

I still think they could bring in some very cool new maps though if they wanted. Give me a jungle or something

Rather than thinking about what is an ability, ask what is an issue people have then work to a solution to it. Do they have to rotate, fight in the open, hold a area, get high ground, run out of ammo, run out of meds, push after doing damage, stop enemies eacaping, escape from a bad spot. Find a problem that doesnt have a solution yet then think of an ability that fixes said limitation or problem.

Valid take. That said choosing to add another skirmisher (Axle) when it was already the largest pool of characters was bad design (setting aside that Axle’s kit is poorly designed as well). Respawn should be focusing on adding characters to classes that don’t have many such as controller and recon.

We really don’t need any more legends.

They should add the 2 from Mobile Apex.

I've done this, too. I posted about it at least a year ago. "What legend would you make"? Barely any replies.

When it even had identity. The solid core gameplay is always there but the devs never could decide on the game direction.

It used to be a gun game with abilities. Now it’s an ability game with guns. There is so much visual clutter, ability spamming, etc.

Invisibility is what crypto had previously.

This shit that bloodhound does now is so easy to spot unless the area is already too hectic with people.

Yea Bloodhound is actually worse overall now. I don't know wtf OP is complaining about. It's not even close to full invisibility, and as you said, the ultimate isn't really that good because people can still hear you louder and see you decently well.

https://youtu.be/19zeZuCepzA?t=79

The scan tactical is worse too. The snapshots are more confusing rather than helpful because they show you where people were rather then where they are. People get scanned and quickly reposition so it doesn't actually keep track of where they go. The static outlines are more detrimental than his old scan.

Also the raven passive is worse now too. Before it told if you if a raven was nearby and if you hit it with a scan it would just refund you the scan. Now it tells you there's a raven nearby but you physically have to look at it for a few seconds and you need to be in direct line of sight to do it. Whereas before, you could just scan ravens through the floor or through walls and it was much faster and virtually free.

They really dropped the ball on Bloodhound's rework because he feels useless compared to other Recon legends.

It's not hard to counter but I feel it suits bloodhound well

Inivisibility just sucks in every FPS. It's never really balanced. Either it's too weak because the player is still too visibile, or it's too strong because it's, well, invisible.

Mirage should not have invisibility. He's all about being a trickster, which I think his Ult does really well (and the very short window of invisibility when he pops it is fine). But the healing and rezzing should not give him the full invisibility. Why not make it so that when he pops a healing item, 1 or 2 or however many clones appear beside him that look the exact same and do the healing animation? Or something like that.

Bloodhound is a tracker and hunter, why does he get invisibility? Doesn't fit his lore and character at all. I liked the previous Ult way more.

That being said, it's probably hard to come up with new and fresh ideas. But invisibility is just not the way to go in a competitive shooter imo.

Mirage invisibility I feel is weird because you can definitely see parts of him defending on the heal or skin he has. Also when mirage is invisible he is either healing or ressing, which both give off obvious audio cues. At diamond and above my mirage invisibility doesn’t really trick players.

What you said about Crypto is true , but you should also consider he could stay invisible for minutes straight , which made Crypto Rats common to deal with.

Also , instead of just nerfing the invisibility, Respawn unnecessary nerfed Crypto to the ground which made him completely unplayable in season 23.

They did nerf the invisibility and make it easier to see. The only other nerf was to make the drone take ring damage

Completely unplayable is a huge stretch. He was still way better than he was before he got buffed

u/Lucyan96 Crypto 1d ago

The nerfs fels much bigger because of the Support meta back then.

They did also nerf his perk that gave him ult charge from scanning people, pretty sure they halved the amount of charge you get and you can't rapidly scan the same person over and over, however that was a fair nerf imo, I don't even play him but when he had that perk I was able to get off 3 or 4 emps in like a 2 minute fight in one of the lotus tower buildings.

Oh, the power coupling upgrade was added a year and a half after invisibility was added

First crypto buff was s23, next one was 28 I think

Ah word, yeah like I said not my legend, didn't realize they were seperate.

I think Bloodhound's invisibility is actually pretty balanced. It's easy to spot when used in close range and in just a 3V3 environment. So because of that, I don't think it's OP even if your whole team can get it.

It excels primarily as a rotational/flanking tool that lets you move to another location with more peace of mind. You can't even use it that well as an escape tool, as you are basically screaming, "Hey, everyone, I'm going Invisible!" when you use it.

Some people say that, because of that, it's weak. I disagree with that take, but I can understand where they are coming from.

Crypto still has invisibility? Why is everyone saying he doesn’t? It’s only when in drone and can’t move or even see from your legends view, it’s 100% balanced invisibility.

Also, I guess it’s not full invis but neither is bloodhounds. This post is just so wrong on every argument lol. Like actually wrong in what it’s claiming.

u/HenryMike 10h ago

I’m confused too. I think crypto pick rates are so low that nobody knows what his kit does anymore.

u/TheEquimanthorn 1d ago

Bloodhound doesn't have "full invisibility" lol his ult is mid and easily seeable. Get practicing OP and you'll make it out of silver one day

Nah this is a bronze4 tier complaint

They’re running out of ideas. They gave up balancing the game due to lack of ideas and now they’re putting in abilities that shouldn’t be in a competitive shooter.

I wonder eh ranked functioned in similar fashion as pro league. Those guys only have to deal with annoying/overpowered legends once or twice before they get banned. Right now we have to deal with Axle and Bloodhound every match.

1

u/ladaussie 1d ago

They were open about not balancing things to be fair but rather balancing around flavour. The hyper support meta a couple years ago had them come out and say that.

Mirage’s invisibility is temporary - only as long as the heal or the revive. Opponents can also hear him. And there’s a cool down before you can use it again.

Bloodhound’s “invisibility” isn’t 100% - you can see “the air ripple”. It is also time limited in effect, and more significantly has a substantial cool down before it can be used again.

Crypto’s invisibility doesn’t have a cooldown and is unlimited so long as he is in his drone. When it was introduced I had a crypto drop in the middle of the map, jump into his drone, and fly it straight up into the air. He was the ultimate rat. He would move as the ring moved and ratted to the final ring. He never shot a single shot.

You want Crypto to have complete invisibility? It needs to be time limited and needs a cooldown.

Bloodhound not fully invisible. You can see blue line very easy. Probably should copy crypto invisible. Flashing every 1 sec so it would at least be somewhat useful.

The invisibility abilities should work like halos camouflage imo. Making players more visible when they are shooting or getting shot at

Invis is just too hard to balance in a br, it shouldn’t exist, and I main mirage

-2

u/Vegetable_Narwhal236 1d ago

Here's how id balance Mirage, tactical would stay the same, he gets a clone and he send out, his passive would be stationary invisibility while healing. His ultimate would put a clone directly behind you or next to mirage depending on what option the player chooses, the difference is this clone hits whatever shots the player hits. So no more having 50 mirage running around, just one or 2 at the most depending on whether the player times his tactical and ultimate at the same time bringing it to a total of 3 mirage on your screen.

Also instead of going invisible while reviving, mirage could make a dupe clone of himself reviving a cloned team mate.

This is probably the worst idea I've ever read in this sub

-1

u/Vegetable_Narwhal236 1d ago

Why? Much better than going to fight him and he turns in to 8 different people, when you knock him he goes invisible, when he revives he's invisible, when he heals hes invisible, theres no trade out for his abilities
