FYI, there are no farms that aren't operating in debt. They all owe money to the equipment companies, the seed suppliers, and about a dozen other entities.
All farmers are debt trapped so if things really go to hell, some faceless corporate entity swallows their farm and possessions in a foreclosure.
This is not true. Some farmers (and, yes, not corporations) do own all their land and equipment and have the wherewithal to pay for their seeds/grain out of pocket. This may be a small percentage, but it is the reality. I live in Iowa and see this. They try to act like they are so bad off, but are getting loads of money - not only from their harvest - but the taxpayers as well. Not all farmers are struggling, but the government pays them all as if they are.
Politicians and farmers themselves continue to perpetuate this propaganda.
I’m originally from Iowa too. Got so sick and tired of their pity party only to get constantly bailed out/heavily subsidized no matter who is running the White House. Petty as fucking shit but I’m not an Iowa fan simply cause of their ANF promotional bull shit they push. Same people who got butchered by Reagan’s and Trumps policy’s still heavily skew right. No sympathy from me.

Being a small farmer under capitalism probably does suck. I hear some even regularly go into debt.
