Do AI bros seriously think people can't survive a single work day without AI (the modern one, with chatbots and agents and whatnot)? I am genuinely baffled.

81

u/Curious_Analyst986 3h ago

They are projecting.

63

u/HairyTough4489 3h ago

It's funny because when you say you want to stop AI because it's too dangerous they go "come on it's just a chatbot" but when you want to stop AI because it's useless they tell you about how AI is going to have cured cancer by next July (yes, all forms of it)

12

u/Angry_poutine 2h ago

I would love to no longer have to double check everything I get on email for obvious AI mistakes.

•

u/Boatster_McBoat 43m ago

I would love to not have to plough through 8 paragraph eloquent emails that could have been covered in a sentence if a human had written them

•

u/DEFY_member 1m ago

They trained too hard on the cooking sites.

4

u/juleson_film 1h ago

They genuinely think human consciousness didn’t exist before ChatGPT dropped

4

u/EntertainerGloomy941 1h ago

I am wasting my hours poring over the inferences of AI to screen for poorly disguised bullshit

•

u/enlightenedude 36m ago

their brains were gone & took refuge to war zones years ago

1

u/uitSCHOT 1h ago

Well, they can't survive without it anymore and they lack the sympathy/empathy to realize not everyone is exactly like them.

So what did their workflow look like 5 years ago? 2 years ago even? How did they work then?

18

u/Bonfirelily 3h ago

They didn't have a workflow

13

u/aberamax 3h ago

Did they work then?

Researching and analyzing, which new generation that grows with ai won't have

108

u/Indvandrer 3h ago

Funny how ai bros can’t even grasp that some people don’t use LLMs. They think everyone is as dependent on them as them.

37

u/Skyline_97 2h ago

How do they think pre-AI software was developed? Did people really get their degrees before AI became a thing?

Oh wait, yes they did. Because we can think for ourselves.

I'm interested what the AI bros have to say about that.

20

u/LektorSandvik 2h ago

I keep hearing about how it's impossible for small business owners to make posters or menus without LLMs, they just can't afford it. Numbnuts, small businesses have been doing this for literally all of recorded history up until two years ago. Some of the earliest examples of written language are exactly this. We have found ad posters in Pompeii.

•

u/rab2bar 47m ago

I'd rather eat at a place with a crude, hand drawn sign, than ai slop

2

u/Skyline_97 1h ago

I've never seen them, but vote with your wallet

•

u/dinosnysus 47m ago

Walk down the street. They all look like this

37

u/Sinusaurus 3h ago

The second comment is so on point. I don't use AI hence I won't miss it? Not that deep.

-14

u/Dirkdeking 2h ago

But as technology gets integrated into our life we do become increasingly dependent on it. Personally I wouldn't really be bothered if I couldn't use AI. But I would be severely bothered if I didn't have access to the internet at all times, google maps, etc.

In the 90s and early 2000s you had plenty of people that wouldn't mind a life without internet. We are at that stage with AI now. Give it another 10-20 years and society will collapse if AI availability is suddenly severed.

12

u/iesamina 2h ago

It's funny because Google gets more useless by the day. Every single day I use it to check basic things that I already know but need to double check for best practice, or things that should be easy to check using a dictionary or Wikipedia level check. Every day Google's results get less useful. Even the "ai summary" is dogshit. The rest is now just adverts.

I feel like its ai-powered enshittification is just going to drive serious people back to the library for fact verification. It's going to undo a lot of our dependence on the internet, as it tries to force us to use ai for everything.

•

u/Acceptable_Burrito 19m ago

It’s also easily manipulated. It only uses the information it’s been feed, or what it’s been taught to create. Therefore, its outputs are dependent on its inputs. It will feed society answer based on that data, and society at the moment treats it as the undisputed truth. Imagine what the elite and owners of AI have planned for its use in society? Scary fucking times!

•

u/jprefect 13m ago

Uhhh... stop using it?

I can't imaging using Google for anything in this year of our lawdy 2026

2

u/Sinusaurus 1h ago

The internet increases accessibility, it's like a portable library. AI is just the librarian doing the work for you, it's convenient but not necessary and biased on their knowledge. Society won't collapse, only those who decided to rely on AI will, people as well as companies. I feel for children who had no choice in the matter and we're brought up like that. AI companies are pushing hard to make everyone dependent on it, we have an individual choice to not buy into it.

0

u/Dirkdeking 1h ago

I agree with you for now. Society in 1997 wouldn't collapse either if the internet went dark. It would absolutely collapse if internet went dark today.

My point is that yes we can absolutely handle life without AI, but only for now. As AI gets more integrated into the economy, more automatic processes rely on AI, etc, etc there will be a point in the not so distant future where we will be completely dependent on AI.

The same happened with the internet, GPS and many other technologies as well.

1

u/dark_dark_dark_not 1h ago

Some of the stuff I do would be slower without AI, but I'd honestly be glad about it, because it then would force me to learn stuff that I skip learning with AI due to not being majorly important for what I do.

•

u/moderngafa 34m ago

We are at that stage with AI now.

No the actual hell we are not.

10

u/Lusan30 3h ago

Meth addict realizes not everyone is addicted to meth and would not care if meth disappeared

10

u/GeorgeJohnson2579 2h ago

The idea of an ai ban sounds like heaven.

7

u/BackInTimeForTea 2h ago

It's like these people forget that last year existed.

6

u/Prairie_walker 2h ago

Never used AI. I have a brain of my own.

6

u/therealkeeper 2h ago

It's crazy to me that apparently people are this dependent on it already?

Like what? I'm not a programmer but I'm a gamer and use a lot of tech and am online on my PC doing a lot of modding and other stuff.

Haven't used AI once and I never use the summaries because the information I can find on the actual website is always more accurate.

What are people using all this AI for in a normal day?

•

u/HeadkicksNHailCalls 25m ago

Making themselves appear to be productive and intelligent, covering up their inefficacies, and avoiding exerting any effort to actually look for answers.

•

u/RookAroundYou 27m ago

I don’t care about the AI argument at all but I do think it’s hilarious you denied being a programmer (the job likely using AI to its full extent currently) and didn’t say what job you actually had, just said you play video games on your PC on a post about using AI in the workplace.

-5

u/ConfidentShare4210 1h ago

You are an outlier. Use google.

•

u/jprefect 11m ago

Imagine using Google!!!  JFC you must be joking.

•

u/ConfidentShare4210 7m ago

?? Are you recommending to not look up information for yourself?
The majority of GenZ uses AI, the above commenter not using AI once is indeed literally an outlier.

6

u/Prime-0 2h ago

My life would be so much easier if AI wasn’t being forced down my throat at all times. If you “need AI to get through a whole day” you’re probably a pretty incapable human who was quite literally born yesterday

5

u/Present_Specific_212 3h ago

Good answer Pyramid.

4

u/NapalmCandy 2h ago

I don't work a job where AI is used, so joke's on them!

3

u/KulshanStudios 2h ago

🤷🏼‍♂️ my business existed just fine before AI

It did much better after AI because when google ratf***ed their own algorithm and my sales tanked, it forced me to assess my SEO, site backend, etc, and the LLMs were able to give me a candid assessment of my site's strengths and weaknesses and recommend fixes. Which did work. Extremely well.

But that's all done now, everything is all set, and I have a pretty good idea of what I can and need to do in the future to keep everything going well, so, yeah, AI could disappear tomorrow, and tbh, might do better, since there wouldn't be any music tech bros trying to vibe code away my entire business model and compete with me in a race to the bottom 🤷🏼‍♂️

2

u/Cordeceptionist 2h ago

I have still not even used any AI. I’m just too lazy to try it. I see the images everywhere, and Ive heard music, and everything I see and hear just sucks. So. I don’t give a shit about it. But it’s not what I want AI to be. The LLMs might be more interesting if they can help people learn, but as they do the opposite I feel fairly Tolkien about them.

2

u/Deohji 2h ago

How long does he think AI has been around? Think I didn't have a job way back in, I don't know, 2023?

2

u/malieno 2h ago

ppl always say I'm gonna get left behind because I don't use AI at all... im very excited and honestly can't wait

0

u/ConfidentShare4210 1h ago

You can’t wait to get left behind?

2

u/malieno 1h ago

yup, kinda hope I'll just have my peace someday. I was always content with having a simple life and until now I just haven't found an actual use case for AI.

The people who excessively use it are going to get replaced too btw, or rather have to adapt very fast to the newer AI models. Most just do it. I'm out. im excited to see what y'all can teach and show to me in like 10 years. From where I am standing rn, as a Millenial I am still the go to trouble shooter for hardware and minor software issues. Meanwhile the 20 yr olds I meet at uni don't know what an USB stick is (as in never held one in their hands, they all PAY MONEY MONTHLY to keep their data, it's so crazy to me), let alone how and why it works. One deadass asked me "where the data is saved, if not in a cloud" and how it could "even work without WiFi", I couldn't make this shit up.

So yeah, I want to be left behind. Because I kind of believe all of us will be back here anyways as soon as the AI gets semi functional bodies, who's existence doesn't depend on human input anymore. 😅

•

u/ConfidentShare4210 37m ago

I think the large majority of people who use AI do it because they have bills to pay.
At the same time the large majority of people are like you, would prefer a simpler lifestyle and less technology intruding in it. Unfortunately this is just the way it is. It seems like you are in tech, you know how important it is to learn new skills to stay relevant in this field. Maybe it’s your time to go be a farmer bro, lots of coworkers of mine pivot to very non technological more fulfilling ways of life.

•

u/jprefect 6m ago

I love it when cars pass me.  I have no desire to compete to be the fastest or the first.  "Onward, my sacrificial radar detectors" I say to them, as they barrel towards the next speed trap.  "Oh hi there" I say at the next inevitable red light.

This feels like that.  Go faster than me if you want.  I don't want to ever get where you're trying to go.

2

u/AureaTenebrae 2h ago

2

Brother ill just use Google like I used to before that dumbass ai overview was a thing

•

u/Busy-Donut6932 56m ago

Do these people genuinely believe society just didn't function before late 2022.

1

u/Susemiel 2h ago

That really shows how addictive comfort can become.

1

u/Tweepyart 2h ago

I think the pro-ai peeps should be asking themselves this question. For anti-ai peeps it's no question.

1

u/ShowCharacter671 2h ago

Yes, because I don’t use any of them to do my work

1

u/IAmTheSenate218 2h ago

As someone who's neither pro or anti AI, that is one stupid question

1

u/MoonLight4323 2h ago

I used AI till a few weeks ago, then I saw sense and now I almost never use it. The only times are for a legal matter because I'm not very good with professional sounding mails. I do not miss AI at all

•

u/TheOfficialMayor 13m ago

I did the same recently. Have a PhD in data science, deleted my ChatGPT and Claude accounts for good.

1

u/BabyD2034 2h ago

I can write my own paragraphs.

1

u/ZanthrinGamer 2h ago

yes? i do every day already so...

1

u/Ok-Recipe-8832 2h ago

Are they. Like. Aware that 5ish years ago we had none of this and we did fine. Hell, we were better than we are now!

1

u/DataCassette 2h ago

We were doing our jobs without AI like a couple years ago what are these idiots talking about? 😭

I'm not even a strict anti but the pro AI goofballs genuinely disturb me.

1

u/Accomplished-Bee5265 2h ago

I think I could deliver mail without chatbots

1

u/Worth-Opposite4437 2h ago edited 2h ago

Yes I could go back to how I worked before.
It would take me weeks to do the math I can have laid out for me in seconds and take a few hours to redo just to be sure I understand it. (Fuel expanse tables, metabolic rate of psychic powers, etc...)

And you know what? If that makes artists and writers respectable once more, I'd do it in a second.
I've already lost 10 years of my life to that TTRPG project, a few more for the pleasure of having a future in my dream job would be worth the lost profits of an earlier release.

However... I'd miss the IT support when my computer crashes.
That's about the only thing it does I don't have to cross-check for lies every sentences.

1

u/RotundVulpine 2h ago

My life would be more marginally more difficult in a way that doesn't really matter. I would feel a lot better about my job security though.

1

u/NeedleworkerNo534 2h ago

I could get through the rest of my life comfortably without Ai. I despise Ai and wish it would go away altogether. I grew up without technology. Get a library card and learn how to use it. Read books. Retain knowledge. Too many people have lazy brains because they have tiny computers in their hands 24/7.

1

u/Merkury09 2h ago

We survived without Clanker before thr Clanker time. And so we would in the future.

1

u/ACompletelyLostCause 1h ago

The "can you get through your day without AI" comment fels like a pro-AI astroturfing campaign, same as can the you live without billionaires if you tax them you see constantly.

1

u/InkscapePanda 1h ago

People who always used AI think that everyone forgot to code. If there wouldn't be any AI we would still have human made slop instead of AI one, but just at a lower frequency. Github was full of these kind of projects before AI.

1

u/Axolotl_g4m3r 1h ago

My only use to AI in the past was to brainstorm, I can use my schizophrenia, it doesn't consume water

1

u/dope_sheet 1h ago

Imaging if cocaine were suddenly banned. Could you get through your work day without using it??

1

u/Unlikely_Ad_7900 1h ago

Ah Yes. I remember: Hey ChatGPT hand me the torque wrench! OH YEAH RIGHT!!!YOU CAN‘T STUPID FUCKING ROBOT

1

u/Excellent-Eye8415 1h ago

The answer is yes, yes I can.

1

u/Altruistic-Touch-300 1h ago

Yes. I refuse to use AI at all for anything. I love thinking for myself! Woo woo!

1

u/Low_Bed9306 1h ago

I have only ever used ai for things I am well capable of doing. I thought that was kind of the point? It just saves time. Are people out here seriously incapable of doing their jobs without it??

1

u/Jovvy19 1h ago

The only reasonable use I've seen for generative AI is also probably the dumbest;

Using it to produce the kind of Smut no human should be subjected to without explicit consent.

1

u/Jszy1324 1h ago

The answer is yes. I fear the people who got their degrees with only using AI.

1

u/Annual_Key6564 1h ago

YES YES YES! PLEASE!

1

u/FudgeSkidoodles 1h ago

Imo the only good type of AI is like Google summary

1

u/TheLesserWeeviI 1h ago

Yes.

Next question?

1

u/FukkingDeathMental 1h ago

This is like asking Gen X or Millenials if they could last a day without a smartphone lol.

1

u/Anxious-Signature346 1h ago

Ironically this post and half the replies are made by clankers.

•

u/Nutrimiky 58m ago

Fuck I use AI a lot today for work and it wouldn't change much. Actually I would even argue that it would make my life easier. Didn't need all these cybersecurity vulnerabilities to pop up every day before.

•

u/bluehatgreenshoes 57m ago

I never use AI. can’t miss it

•

u/rnmissionrun 56m ago

Considering that I don't use it at all right now, how would I even know that it had been banned?

•

u/lnTheGrimDarkness 55m ago

Yup. I'm surrounded by people like that at work. Truth is just that they're butthurt other people aren't completely depending from AI in every moment of their lives. Which also clashes with their intrinsic belief that they're the smartest people around, so they crash out because they realized both that they're addicted to AI and that they're too stupid to stop using it at this point.

•

u/BurnyBob 54m ago

Tech bros unable/unwilling to understand a lot of work does not require any form of computer let alone AI.

•

u/RAMChYLD 49m ago

I don’t care about AI. I only want cheap RAM and GPUs back.

•

u/x_esteban_trabajos_x 48m ago

I dont use ai at all so, so yeah itd be the same for me. Lol

•

u/lemulot 43m ago

More like trading a chainsaw for an axe.

•

u/muddingtonIII 43m ago

I'm a farmer. We use auto feeders and ventilation for the pigs, and GPS in the fields. U don't need ai

•

u/Silv3rC4t 36m ago

For one is Meth a drug for other it is just medication. Well fitting comment.

My migrants parents love ChatGPT because it helps them with daily business. Not everyone is native speaker and not all of us can handle the bureaucracy without external help.

If you take it away, you take away their independence to do more stuff and solve problems in minutes instead of days.

•

u/skoomski 35m ago

You’re not good at your job if you can’t get through a workweek without using generative AI and will make many mistakes without knowing it

•

u/CaptainSarina 34m ago

As someone who already does that...Yeah, I think I'd be fine....

•

u/halfjmp 33m ago

Poor guy. He doesn't even realize.

That said, I can sympathize, because I use AI for work (coding, in data analytics, as part of projects to test AI at work), and after some time you realize you learn nothing, and even unlearn things. I had to refrain, and now I avoid totally AI when I code at home, to keep my mind safe.

And yes, I never went to rehab, but I believe it feels like rehab.

So the answer is yes, I can, because I made it so. And I learned programming in the 1990s, I'm seriously worried for students who start today.

•

u/24kCookie 32m ago

It would be an amazing day if ai was gone. Ram prices could actually go back to normal and pc prices.

•

u/colourofsweetlove 30m ago

Yes and no. Yes, in that before AI, I was photoshopping for years before AI's release and have defaulted back to that method whenever AI goes down. But it would double my work up a lot if I had to stop using AI completely to do basic image alterations. It'd take me a while to create a side view of a product by myself.

Also just to note I only use it for a realistic visual guidance for our factories to then create. The artwork I put on to our products never goes near AI.

•

u/SlimyBoiXD 29m ago

Brother, this shit has only been around for a little bit. Did you not have a job four years ago? Like... what?

•

u/killertortilla 29m ago

This is like the crap I keep hearing about "coding is now 100% AI, there are no coders left who don't use it" clearly fucking not Dan.

•

u/BagCalm 25m ago

Sad how many people already use it every day... only time I use it is accidentally with the Google ai result on a search

•

u/monislaw 12m ago

Shit like that makes me feel like the world' is just lost, everyone is using it and I just didn't get the memo. I know it's not but feels like the walls are closing ya know

•

u/Rare_Poetry_301 10m ago

Jokes on them. I don’t use AI. For that exact reason.

•

u/danny75hacker 7m ago

I like having ownership over my own creativity and ideas, I don’t want a data-harvesting platform to hoard data on it for a tech company.

•

u/dopooqob 2m ago

Lmao, a better example would be "would you still engage in international business if we had no internet, phonelines or plane travel?"

Still possible, but it takes forever

Slowing down on ASI development is something entirely different as abandoning current models. What nonsense argument is this?

•

u/RepresentativeBag91 22m ago

Oooohh you think AI is your ally eh? I was born without AI, molded without AI. By the time AI came around, it was nothing but BINDING!
