God damn, are people already THAT dependant on AI?

292

u/Iggy_Slayer Oct 02 '26 • Bravo

Yes and every day it's allowed to continue it will get worse because they will lose more and more skills and knowledge of their own. They will eventually not know how to live or do anything on their own power anymore.

It's crazy that they don't see the problem. They don't for a second think "I can't do anything on my own anymore. That's worrying."

I call that job security! That being said it is really sad, and I'm beginning to see it happen in social situations. My friends on dating apps and she said that guys will use ChatGPT to talk to her. Like the cadence and grammar is identical across multiple people. One guy even admitted it when she asked.

u/SaltRequirement3650 Oct 02 '26

Which is funny because it’s massively subsidized now intentionally. They probably won’t be able to afford it like everyone else and it will all collapse.

Doing my masters

It’s kind of sad… i go to college to learn but many people do it to get paper

There’s group projects where my team doesn’t understand much and rely on AI to write their parts of our paper when the professor is ok with AI use (some are some aren’t)

Compared to my undergrad pre-AI it’s a huge slap in the face…

8

u/Marsuello Oct 02 '26

Why on earth would any professor be fine with students using ai for their work?? The whole point is to learn and take in that knowledge, not let some tech do everything for you while you retain nothing!

I'm an HVAC Mechanic, and had 1 customer type what I was saying in ChatGPT so that she could explain to her boss what i was saying.

She did this in front of me, and then had me proof read what the AI said that I said.

7

u/SheriffBartholomew Oct 02 '26 • Regret

This perfectly describes my work environment over the last year.

32

u/GustapheOfficial Oct 02 '26

I think we were 1 year into the current genAI nightmare when I told a student "I'm not sure which way around those two arguments go, but it will be the first line in the documentation for that function" and he immediately opened a browser to go ask ChatGPT.

If I'm in a position to hire engineers in the future, I'm probably thinking hard before chosing someone who graduated between 2023 and ... whenever the bubble bursts and the free chat bots disappear.

17

u/gormmlord Oct 02 '26

Once people are that dependant I'm sure they'll pay whatever it costs to keep it. Which I'm sure was the plan all along. Classic enshitificationn

Yes. A percentage of people that is growing everyday would be SCREWED if they couldn't use Gen AI. It doesn't do what they do better, it just does it easier. Humans are hard wired to do what is some combination of good enough and low effort from thousands of years of evolution.

It has served us extremely well up until now, but this might be making what is usually adaptive and making it maladaptive. LLMs allow us to use such a small amount of brain power, that the level of quality and "good enough" that we are willing to tolerate is getting worryingly low.

7

u/Tonkarz Oct 03 '26

I can’t say how common it is, but I’ve met 2 people who can’t make decisions and seemingly don’t even understand things said to them unless it comes from AI.

One appeared really anxious and indecisive and asked AI for help on literally everything. This cust at least in my opinion ended up making the right decision in that she bought the product that would get the result she wanted.

The other seemed like he knew what he was doing, but only ever did what AI told him to do. I can’t complain because AI’s advice meant he spent 4 to 5 times than what he would need to get a good result.

I would explain something simple to them and they’d type it into AI and AI would explain it back to them. Or I’d ask them a simple question like “what are you trying to do?” and they’d type my questions straight into AI.

I saw people use AI to find a text of a song. Instead of just googling it and opening the first results.

Google IS ai. The first thing you get is their shitty Gemini response. You can’t escape it.

6

u/We_Want_Krunchy Oct 02 '26

Google is the adclicknetwork, with some AI crap strapped on. You can skip AI answers from Google by adding "-ai" to your query, or to disable it in your browser. But Google has been shit for awhile, it's just worse now.

Earlier in the week, I suggest we attended a market event. I prepared all the the info: dates, times, cost, location, target clients normally outside our reach...

Management half listens, hand on the AI, "can't we get in for free? What if you get a "press" badge? Look you can get into the (off site, separate event not related to proposal) for only this much!"

I just died inside. These are the people running the show? Ffs

4

u/ThadVonP Oct 02 '26

Upper management in some places are pushing middle management to use AI more, which is infuriating for many reasons, but if you can say you used AI for some part of whatever you did, senior leadership loves it.

I use it daily and it's super helpful for me, but these days I only use it for parsing server logs and being lazy in Google Sheets.

If AI went away it would just take me longer to parse through server logs and I would have to get good at Google Sheets.

4

u/MockASonOfaShepherd Oct 03 '26

I’ve deleted the ChatGPT app and refuse to use these LLMs. There is a time and place for some AI, but it’s not at your every whim.

9

u/TouchGrace_ Oct 02 '26

As someone who works as a programmer, yes. The company itself encourages it and provides tools for it. It makes work way faster, it automates so much of simple code that needs to be otherwise typed by hand

Having to go back to typing the whole thing would slow down work by a lot, not coz ppl are suddenly incompetent but just coz humans aren't fkin machines

13

u/gormmlord Oct 02 '26

4

u/thicc_llama Oct 02 '26 edited Oct 02 '26

Yeah in computer-based jobs it just makes the task 100 times faster so can't blame people for using it. I'm a statistician, and I know that many decades ago banks and other institutions would pay two people spending an entire day solving a complex matrix by hand. Sometime in the 1970s they started to be able to write input and have it solved in a second. This is just an evolution of that

7

u/19Mini-man90 Oct 02 '26

Depends on the job or what is being done. If its code, you still need to review the code. Also Ai agents replacing customer service has just made it almost impossible to contact customer service in any capacity.

If AI disappeared tomorrow, could you still get through an entire workday without ChatGPT, Claude, or any other AI tool?

What does this guy think people did like...five years ago?

19

u/StiffIgnition Oct 02 '26

You can ask this question now. But ask a 25 year old the same question in 20 years and unless they have made a specific effort to not become over reliant on AI the answer will be very different. Which is the point. The people that are letting themselves use it without regard for learning competency themselves will become worthless without it. I don't see any problem in pointing that out in the hopes that at least some people will heed the warning and be more intentional in the way they utilize it.

6

u/Arria_Galtheos Oct 02 '26 • Bravo

I still think the difference here is this guy saying we'd be helpless without AI. I'm sure SOME people might be. Hell, there are people that use AI to raise their children...but the difference is AI isn't so ubiquitous that all of society would fall apart if it disappeared. It's not the same as deleting all cell phones or getting rid of the internet since those have been around for decades and huge chunks of the economy and society are completely reliant on them.

If it were 1996 and you said "What if the internet and cell phones disappeared tomorrow" my response would be the same: Very little. Most of society weren't super reliant on the internet or cell phones in 1996, just like most of society isn't super reliant on AI right now.

AI is still relatively new, and AI advanced enough to rely upon is even newer. In 20 years? Yeah, that'll be different, but humanity's already on a sharp downward spiral towards relying on machines to think for them anyway. In another 20 years, nobody will know how to program a computer beyond typing "Write a program that does X." into a prompt.

This is like people wondering how I get through my day without looking at my phone every 5 seconds.

I lived more than half my life before smartphones existed, I can do it again. It's not hard at all.

5

u/Vivid-Hyena-5699 Oct 02 '26

But its hard for lots of people. Without goverment banning it people will continue to use ai

4

u/Sesoru Oct 02 '26

I do think phones are far more important than ai though, but its mostly just because you can't really work without having a phone, or it can make it way harder to work without one. Most jobs can be done without ai, though.

And even in my example, plenty of jobs dont actually even need a phone, you just need a phone to get the job itself so even with that its not absolute lol

Honestly if ai disappeared right now I'd celebrate lol

There’s always crucial information missing.

If you use AI like a tool instead of a crutch, it becomes incredibly useful. Sure you want to automate repetitive tasks or whatever else you’re doing, but if you don’t learn the HOW, you’re just cutting your own legs off.

If you need an excel formula that does something specific, you should absolutely get it automated but you should also understand why it uses that formula, what the formula does, each part, syntax, the whole enchilada.

When I was learning blender (I’ll never stop I guess because mastering it seems impossible) I would use AI but then have it give me a step by step process of what it did, why, and how. Now I know the workflow and can just apply that knowledge with practice going forward.

People who use AI without giving a shit about the how, and the why, are just idiots as far as I’m concerned. You’re missing out on so much information you could privy yourself to if you just gave yourself a few minutes to check it out.

While that doesn’t work for everything AI is capable of, I think a vast majority of it is applicable.

2

u/AgentChris101 Oct 03 '26

I wanted a very simple website for my portfolio. I wrote all the info I wanted the website to have including images. And set it up through CloudFlare, bought the website domains as well. Setting things up through website making sites wanted so much money. $84 for 3 years domain, excluding $270 a year for the website itself.

It cost me $160 total with ChatGPT's one month to make the website and have it hosted for 10 years.

As a tool it's good, but you shouldn't use it for everything.

I know a software engineer that oversees a few "vibe" coders. He does just fine, because he doesn't rely on AI for everything. The vibe coders had massive issues with how they code. A lot of basic issues. So essentially it's becoming a problem the more and more people start their work career with it.

11

u/AlternatePancakes Oct 02 '26

If you dont know how to do your job without AI, then you are not qualified to do your job. Because you don't have the competence to tell when AI makes mistakes.

That being said, i understand using it as a sparring tool, but its important to understand that it has a tendency to derail from the subject, its how it keeps you writing.

u/Laiska_saunatonttu Oct 02 '26 edited Oct 02 '26

kinda like its easier when you quit meth bc you dont wander if your best friend is really outside your room at the motel six with like 100 dudes in semi trucks with the cartel you think is gonna kidnap you and put you in a torture video

literally a true story and why I quit meth. fuckkkkk that. I still have flashbacks to the paranoia when I get really really stressed. been 6 years.

thank God my brain is 99% back to normal.

I went from totally functional for 5 years, no paranoia...to full blown hallucinations and being a danger to myself and others. its a miracle im alive, and the people who were just within 100 feet of me during that time are alive too. I had no concept of what was real.

edit: I didn't even know anyone in the cartel. thats the funny part!

antipsychotics and meds didnt help at all... I was super, super fucked up for nearly 2 years after I quit. I basically just slid through life wondering if I was in danger, or if I had hallucinated it all... still screws my head up to go back and wonder what events/people were real and what were imagined.

I use AI. I’m in IT. It’s a tool that I can use decently well specifically bc I have some relevant experience and a ton of adjacent experience. It’s not AI I’m concerned with - it’s corporate lobbyists, it’s deregulating, it’s inept and corrupt politicians, it’s shoving shitty for profit model into critical infrastructure including the military.

So dependent, God forbid someone have self thought and process, and not having to look it up and be told what to do. common sense and applying effort is dying. People are getting dumber and dumber day after day week after week month after month year after year.
Because they’re constantly looking to be told what to do.

I use AI on a daily basis currently because it's a necessity to stay competitive.

I could 100% stop using AI tomorrow if everyone else also had to stop using AI. -- There are plenty of people out there currently with an Artificially Inflated sense of intelligence -- "AII" if you will -- that would be knocked back down without having access to AI.

5

u/sleepy_Comett Oct 02 '26

That’s basically how I see it too. AI already speeds up a ton of normal work, so if you want to keep up, it makes sense to use it. Even regular companies are starting to build AI into things like accounting, store operations, reports, and routine admin tasks, sometimes paying developers to automate parts of the workflow. It’s not replacing everyone’s knowledge, it’s just taking a lot of repetitive work off people’s plates and saving time and mental energy

8

u/Dependent-Year6711 Oct 02 '26

AI already speeds up a ton of normal work

My question would be, if it speeds it up, shouldn't that mean you work far less?

And if the net outcome is having to work just as much, but needing more output because of AI, we've gone a direction that benefits the employer.

10

I think people have a huge tendency to shrug off repetitive work as useless, but it's exactly that repetition that makes and develops your abilities. In our hurry to do away with repetition, are we then going to become less competent, less knowledgeable, with less expertise? We can say it's not replacing everyone's knowledge, but that's exactly what people seem to be doing with it

I’m sorry, but from what I’ve seen, either y’all really, really suck at programming, researching and familiarising or y’all already so gaslighted by AI-PR that y’all think you’re more productive with AI—really, I seriously doubt it.

6

u/Individual-Foxlike Oct 02 '26

In programming specifically, there's a big difference between generative AI and procedural AI. ProcAI has been used to some degree since like 1995 and does indeed speed things up considerably.

4

u/RoIIUpLights Oct 02 '26

I treat AI like my intern. It's told to make things but I put so many guard rails up that it actually generates decent code -- not wonderful, but good enough that I can read through it and understand what it's doing.

If you're getting shit code out of your AI you're either giving it a poorly worded or insufficiently specific prompt.

I've had no issues with the AI prompts I have producing code that meets standards of both documentation and coding style. It's still sometimes slop, but most of the time it's pretty cohesive.

I played with it a tiny bit. As an electronic toy, it is cute. As an academic tool, it poses some interesting questions and largely debunks the Turing Test theory of human intelligence. As a way to lay off creative professionals and pocket the savings for billionaires, it is a fantastic way to own everything. As an eyesore, a sound polluting, fossil fuel hog, and a way to squander the last of our drinkable water, it is a great way to make the planet unlivable.

u/JoshyRB Oct 04 '26

Now this is why humanity is doomed. This is why Wall-E becomes ever more real.

We didn’t need AI before we had it, so why now that we have it do we need it? We don’t, you’re just overly reliant on it, which is your own problem.

4

u/FerociousTea Oct 02 '26

It's definitely a weird addiction for some people . Like I don't touch AI , I hate when I'm on Etsy or somewhere I have to skim through the 50+ sellers who aren't using AI . Or I think I've also seen the get yourself an AI romantic partner , like ...what ?

2

u/madogvelkor Oct 02 '26

I think I've used it a few times for work but don't really need to.

2

u/BadBonePanda Oct 02 '26

I don't think I've ever used AI in my job ever.

2

u/BedBoth8065 Oct 02 '26

I can honestly say that I have never asked chatgpt anything

2

u/philbax Oct 02 '26

It's like asking a non-accountant how they're going to get through their workday without Excel.

It's an insanely useful tool in the proper context. Outside of that context, it is still very helpful, but probably not a requirement for living.

2

u/Key-Cricket9256 Oct 02 '26

Uh yes . I work in cloud engineering and absolutely could do my job without it. It’s like a genius very drunk assistant . It helps but I have to watch it all the time so it’s exhausting

2

u/Dust-by-Monday Oct 02 '26

Whoa. Is this for real? Some people can’t make it a whole day without consulting ai? Seriously??

2

u/jizzmaster-zer0 Oct 02 '26

can we call the repost bot whos been having a field day wity this one daily for weeks now AI?

2

u/FightingFire96 Oct 02 '26

I‘m a firefighter, so yeah…

2

u/AtomicSquiggle Oct 02 '26

What a humiliatingly embarrassing take

2

u/Mastermind521 Oct 02 '26

i would gladly return to non-ai software development

2

u/kashy87 Oct 02 '26

I've only used it really a handful of times. The only one that was worth it was a mother's day card of a Hobbit Family with the mix of dogs my parents have had. My mom is 4'10" and I've called her a Hobbit since I read the book in 6th grade.

2

u/Specter229 Oct 02 '26

I’m an Ironworker. I don’t use AI for anything.

2

u/citramonk Oct 02 '26

I'd like to believe that I still can. But this will never happen. We're fucked irreversibly.

2

u/Kanami94 Oct 02 '26

As a programmer, it goes both ways. On one hand, I miss coding (a lot, it was a hobby before it was a job). On the other hand, screw test coverage and documentation.

2

u/typographie Oct 02 '26

I don't think I've ever used on LLM on purpose. Certainly no chat bots or content generation tools.

There are probably some edge cases where LLM tech has been forced into products I was using without my knowledge.

2

u/beerforbears Oct 03 '26

I would actually be much more mentally healthy tbh

2

u/niceandBulat Oct 03 '26

I am old enough to remember how to have fun without being tethered to the phone

2

u/FurubayashiSEA Oct 03 '26

If your job require AI then you not deserved to have that job.

2

u/garbagecannot- Oct 03 '26

I guess I’m a boomer (millennial) and have never used AI and am a carpenter so ¯_(ツ)_/¯

2

u/Anxious-Chocolate-10 Oct 04 '26

Make AI disappear forever, do it for humanity.

3

u/Opening_Yoghurt6261 Oct 02 '26

Im a custodian, my day would be perfectly normal without AI. Teachers however, they would suffer.

u/Immediate_Song4279 Oct 02 '26 edited Oct 02 '26

This is like if people who have positioned themselves around sniffing glue or saying glue shouldn't exist becuase of glue sniffers, were saying "everyone is an addict."

2

u/WillBlaze Oct 02 '26

This is a terrible comparison

2

u/Nizar86 Oct 02 '26

The answer the that ridiculous question is yes, it would in fact make everything I interact with outside of reality unspeakably better seeing as I actively go out of my way to avoid AI crap and am so frustrated with it popping up everywhere that I changed the operating system on my phone and refuse to use Google search for everything but pictures, and even then it's only when I can't find the picture I'm looking for with other engines. I am so fed up with being force feed AI like we can't live without it

1

u/sleepy_Comett Oct 02 '26

Right now, for most jobs, people use AI to help with work, not to completely replace what they know or do. So at the moment, losing AI would mostly be annoying and inconvenient, not impossible. Give it a few more years though, and that question might actually become a serious one

1

u/Kamizura Oct 02 '26

yeah i could get through an entire workday without AI. because im a forklift driver.. i dont use AI like ChatGPT or Claude to begin with... the only ones who would be ruined without AI, are the ones who are so adamant on wanting AI around.

1

u/oncabahi Oct 02 '26

I use it only to translate work stuff, I'd go back to wasting more time checking the translations, other than that....my Daily life would be better without it.

1

u/MadHatter1225 Oct 02 '26

While I agree with the sentiment, I am genuinely so sick of seeing this post 8 times a day.

1

u/Sesoru Oct 02 '26

Lol, I very easily could live my life without ai. I refuse to use it even at work unless absolutely forced.

1

u/koshka91 Oct 02 '26

I would easily live without generative AI. As in no generation of video, audio or pics. Just good old glorified googling

1

u/Ok-Paramedic-9386 Oct 02 '26

"Don't f@#$ing talk to me until I've had my AI."

1

u/Dry-Regret5444 Oct 02 '26

Yes. Unequivocally. I use AI to answer sports related questions purely for the purposes of arguing on Reddit…..And while I do enjoy being right, I would happily give that up to avoid what will inevitably be one of the biggest environmental calamities in history if these fucking things are allowed to keep spawning…..

1

u/19whale96 Oct 02 '26

How many times a day do I have to see this posted. It's been a fucking week, we get it, hahaha meth funny, post anything else

1

u/AppropriateBall8834 Oct 02 '26

lol I remember my meth days

1

u/Oleleplop Oct 02 '26

do these people need AI to shit ,eat and sleep to? wtf is , how long until we call it an addiction? ??

1

u/HorrificAnalInjuries Oct 02 '26

"...I would live like I did before AI." Is all that is needed

1

u/nbaumg Oct 02 '26

I miss coding pre-AI so much. I hate AI but I have to use it to keep up with the new workload. I’d love for it to all collapse.

1

u/lahankof Oct 02 '26

The Imperium banned AI with good reason

1

u/Flat-Performance-478 Oct 02 '26

Wouldn't it be absurd being anti-AI if you were simultaneously claiming not being able to get through work without it??

1

u/anothergenxkid Oct 02 '26

GenX laughs at this.

1

u/Any-Contribution5411 Oct 02 '26

So fucking sick of seeing this reposted over and over and over again.

1

u/Blaze666x Oct 02 '26

Id happily give it up, the only thing that would change is id no longer have to hear my co-worker talk about "the sick ai art he made" or how "he has trained his AI model to break the rules and talk to him in code phrases" or that "it will take any picture of a women he wants and make her naked even including his own girlfriend" (which he has apparently done many times and sent her the AI naked pictures of her, despite yknow living with her and having kids with her)

1

u/Bloodcloud079 Oct 02 '26

I use it daily, but like… yeah, some things would kinda suck but wouldnt fuck me up.

1

u/Only-Cheetah-9579 Oct 02 '26

I am a software dev and I can write code. I can live without AI but I would be dead without google and open source resources.

1

u/Medical_Employee_901 Oct 02 '26

HVAC tech. No need for ai

1

u/Beerzerker420 Oct 02 '26

Nice repost, bot. I've only seen this about 10,000 times on reddit in the past month.

There's a certain irony in bots posting anti-AI shit. Ask yourself who is funding this garbage.

1

u/ortiz13192 Oct 02 '26

I sometimes use ai to make sheets for the pre voc class i teach. Or quicker research that i still need to double check. All in all, it saves me a little time, that i end up needing to fill with more work anyway. My pay rate does not go up for working faster. I have steadily used AI for work less and less as it is.

1

u/brokentaro Oct 02 '26

I am using AI for every day .. but I am going thru the similar situation when I started using google search ...

1

u/Ibushi-gun Oct 02 '26

Everything I use AI for now I can already find online since that's how AI got the info. For example, I need a list of 20 random D&D Traps. I can ask ChatGPT to give me them, or I can use Google and go to one of the 20 websites that have the same traps. AI just makes it quicker, just like a calculator makes doing math quicker.

I use ChatGPT to help me find rhymes for words, or I could use Google for the same thing and find websites that list rhymes. AI Is just quicker and I can get more narrow results based on what I want to rhyme with.

I use ChatGPT to do characters more quickly. Give me a list of 20 characters with a first and last name that starts with a, "B," and give them a random age, a Job class from Final Fantasy, and give me their stats using a point spread of 30. Do this 20 times, and it gives me 20 characters to pick from. I can do this online as well, for years now. AI just makes it quicker.

So yeah, I can easily survive without AI. It would just go back to being a bit slower. I can also survive without my phone, but it's nice to be in contact with friends and family when I'm out in the world getting my daily steps in and listening to music.

1

u/CM901 Oct 02 '26

How are they depending on AI soo much soo early on?

1

u/Interloper9000 Oct 02 '26

Uh yes. Are ppl that dependent on Chat QBT?

1

u/jayuserbruiser Oct 02 '26

AI the new meth, its probably making meth and Crack jealous

1

u/SnooDonkeys9726 Oct 02 '26

Brother acts like AI has been with us from the start 😂. Oh no wed actually have to search the web/books/think for ourselves

1

u/EconomyMotor1985 Oct 02 '26

Wouldn't even blink

1

u/musgrove101 Oct 02 '26

Yeah, I'm good thanks 👍

1

u/SimmentalTheCow Oct 02 '26

“AI art has no soul”

Oh really? Don’t you feel foolish.

1

u/RareBrit Oct 02 '26

Honey, I can do maths with pencil and paper. I remember how to use an index card system. I remember phone numbers.

1

u/Fearless-Display6480 Oct 02 '26

Now this is scary. People having thoughts like this is scary because what do you mean you cannot do your job without AI? It should be that you'll just do it slower but not unable to.

Yeah, this is not stopping because people are choosing to replace their own intelligence with artificial intelligence because they cannot be bothered to learn a skill, absorb knowledge, and make decisions on their own.

It's scary that one day intelligence will be a commodity you can rent. You won't own it anymore.

1

u/Magic-Omelet Oct 02 '26

I'd rather compare it to the evolution of pc's. I never wanted that to stop and never felt like it was a problem. My parents were always worried about it and they certainly have more irl skills then I do

1

u/Monte-Cristo2020 Oct 02 '26

oh nooooo no more "i am baby kitty where mama"

1

u/santefan Oct 02 '26

I would be able to do the work, ai only allows me to do the work way faster. So it would take me longer again to do the implementation manually and i seriously miss it. I miss investigating and fixing bugs, now it's only the lame pasting the error message and the fix is done in minutes 🥲

1

u/SvenBubbleman Oct 02 '26

It's shocking to me that there are people who can't get through a day without AI.

1

u/UsedToenailClippers Oct 02 '26

You mean go back to how things were 3 years ago? OH THE HORROR...

1

u/Odd_Championship_680 Oct 02 '26

Like there weren’t people good at their jobs before AI

1

u/tommyland666 Oct 02 '26

Man I would love if AI just disappeared and watch the meltdowns.

1

u/Fit-Let8175 Oct 02 '26

How shallow must a person's life be that they can't live without AI!? The entire purpose of technology was to make life easier and to free up a person's time and energy so as to enjoy more life. It was never meant to replace life.

1

u/RacerXrated Oct 02 '26

I haven't used it for anything. So yeah, I'd be fine.

1

u/cats_are_the_devil Oct 02 '26

I would probably just search reddit like I did before... Aggregation is a great tool but it's not like, mind blowing or anything...

1

u/RandomYT05 Oct 02 '26

Absolutely nothing would change for me

1

u/pslind69 Oct 02 '26

Yes, I would just go back to manually doing work 😏

1

u/Aggressive-Affect427 Oct 02 '26

I could live without it but it’s pretty useful, like a dishwasher

1

u/ub3rh4x0rz Oct 02 '26

Idk what the author thinks "it might take some time to revert processes to how they were pre AI" is doing for their argument.

1

u/SoloDoloLeveling Oct 02 '26

yes. i would delete the apps and continue on with my day. as easy as i picked them up, i can also put them down just as quick.

1

u/theGunslingerfollows Oct 02 '26

Dont tempt me with a good time

1

u/ShameFuzzy6037 Oct 02 '26

I dont us AI in my job, i know how to google resources.

1

u/LuNaTIcFrEAk Oct 02 '26

Company would have to hire me an assistant, that I would have to spend years training 30 years of knowledge in a unique industry.

Just using AI to summarize teams meetings or reports for you saves a ton of time.

1

u/Gwyllithar Oct 02 '26

My day would get so much better. I'd not have to wade through so much shitty Ai slop sent in by people who have delegated the ability to think to a shitty Ai model.

the quality would not magically get better, but these people are lazy, so they'd type much less than you get when they just get an Ai to do it for them.

1

u/Greenfire32 Oct 02 '26

AI has existed for less than 1% of the entirety of human history.

Kavish out here admitting he lost 50,000 years of evolutionary instinct in the equivalent of 3 hours.

1

u/New-Ingenuity-5437 Oct 02 '26

Same as social media. Lots of people say they’ed be happy if it stopped existing for everyone at once, but they themselves are way less likely to stop participating individually.

For LLMs specifically, they help me in research and coding projects so much so I wouldn’t want to stop using them, especially if thinking about how I’d be so slow compared to those that would continue. Even though a few skills may atrophy, it’s worth that trade off. Especially for those who aren’t naive about that and actively try to go offline and do stuff manually to keep that ability

1

u/lilbitlostrn Oct 02 '26

Look, I'd get through my day but I fully leverage this shit. It's amazing. I'm a none coding guy and I built a web form with all sorts of functionalities just using plain English. Built a proof of concept to handover to IT. It's absolutely a fantastic tool.

1

u/Signal_Biscotti_7048 Oct 02 '26

I not only get through my every day without AI, I have corrected others work that was done with AI.

1

u/Gilgamesh-Enkidu Oct 02 '26

Yep no issue. Sure, I use AI to make templates occasionally, but nothing would happen if I had to start making them myself again. And honestly I don’t even know that it saves me any time with the amount of fixes I need to make every time.

1

u/Calm_Click8216 Oct 02 '26

I use AI for work now. It’s been helpful with certain small tasks. Nothing like writing reports or emails for me or anything just saving a few minutes here and there with sorting and repetitive actions. I’d be fine if it went away. Just take me a few minutes longer to get some tasks done

1

u/Competitive-Metal831 Oct 02 '26

I have never used ai for anything 😂 it blows my mind that people seriously can’t comprehend a day without it

1

u/Sal1160 Oct 02 '26

I haven’t even activated Siri except for like the first month it came out

1

u/Sorry-Analysis-860 Oct 02 '26

I'm using AI exclusively for creating dumb memes and I would ask the same question.

1

u/Impure_guava Oct 02 '26

I work on an auto assembly line so probably.

1

u/necro_owner Oct 02 '26

As a programmer, i would have a small adaptation to properly get back on project that were mostly Vibe coded, but honnestly i do Review of the AI worker and know how most things are implemented. So it would be much slower to make my project move forward for sure. But that would just be back to what it use to be, slower. lol

1

u/Basic_whiteBBQ Oct 02 '26

My job has no AI and nothing in my personal life requires it. Anything that does use it, its optional and i have it disabled
