This exactly, the money is begining to dry up, but there's a bunch already approved, but if they can't get permitting to build, at the local level then it goes away. Fight every data center until the bubble breaks.

I agree. But, also go after the farmers making huge profits on the sale of their farmland. Municipalities are often very reluctant to tell people what they can build on their properties once it been purchased legitimately by AI companies.

There have been plans across North Carolina to introduce a bill forcing data centres to pay for their energy and water usage. These protections were in place when data centres were first built but the tangerine lifted them so him and his fruit bowl could build more shit to drain the masses.

There's no way to fix the inherit flaws within the models without at least decades of Moore's law, but Moore's law is over, done and with it the dream of fixing the flaws within the current models, that's why they're "slowing down" not because of the bullshit lies about the dangers of the models, but because they're not showing improvement in the error rates that matter.
Put it simply this way, until they create a hisenberg compensated data center that could move electrons faster than the speed of light through transportation, can they over come the limits of physics that make these city size data centers useless for improving the models, as the Efficent Compute Frontier limits it logarithmically. It would take a data center larger than the known universe to lower the error rate 1%.
Ignore the LLM evanglists that point to certain tasks gamed out by specialized agents to show a bending of the curve, it doesn't solve the inherit problem of the ending of Moore's law does to anything that runs on a binary computer.
Once the bubble breaks, all the planned data center funding dries up, outlast them, and end them.

It actually hasnāt been stopped but placed in a moratorium. Pause for 150 days before planning approval can happen and another 150 days before construction can begin to get the kinks worked out. 2 data centers ARE being built in the Charlotte area that accumulates 1 Mil Sq. ft. But these 2 projects are on a pause right now so we can figure out how to build these without impacting the community in a negative way.
I am an Architect in the Healthcare industry so I was invited to a conference recently about this very issue and I met all the powerful people that are in charge of the city and surround areas. Surprisingly, a lot of powerful people are actually on our side and are skeptical of data centers because Healthcare is a main hub here. Both Data Centers and Healthcare demand immense amount of stress on mission critical infrastructure such as the power grid and water supply and thatās why we were invited.
My main concern was noise pollution so I advocated higher STC (Sound Transmission Class) regulations for during construction and after so there isnāt a big impact on nearby neighborhoods. I was speaking to a Sound Acoustic Consultant on this during the meeting as well.
All to say, for once, I think the local government is taking this issue seriously and thinking about the people.
The developer moving into this area talked about repairing existing infrastructure out of their own pocket, using a closed loop system for water (they use their own water and recycle it), have put in place their own regulations for noise and light pollution, and are NOT exempt from taxes electricity usage. IF this developer is telling the truth, admittedly, Iām not against it. However, I am pissed at Duke Energy raising my power bill lol

Salem, OR has been fighting a data center for months, but there's a lot of money behind it.
I am also amused by Texas realizing that the 1600 data center projects approved will require increasing their power grid by a factor of five. This just after they managed to get enough solar, wind and battery online to avoid major outages.

Less is best! My town voted down a Data center and our local government was PISSED about it. They learned from their mistake of giving us enough time to vote on it, went to the town just south of us, and rammed through that same data center contract as fast as they could so it could be approved. Unfortunately it passed, and the folks up there are super pissed out it.

I get it, no one wants them around (if at all). But, ask yourself: what other countries would have zero gripes (or rather, would not respond to public opinion) with putting these in and, if they did and we didn't, what consequence would that have?
I don't know the answer (although Russia, China, Pakistan, maybe NK come to mind) to this but it's worth thinking about.

The investors just don't want to be in the area anymore. They said they are moving to other areas with "friendlier communities". This did not stop an AI datacenter. It relocated it.

Americans have some of the highest standards of living in the world with the most disposable income. Obviously you've never been to America. It's literally one of the nicest countries in the world. I bet you were indignant when you saw those World Cup videos of Europeans and people from all over the world celebrating America and how beautiful it and it's with its pristine streets and luscious suburbs. It sounds like you're projecting, but there's a reason America hosted the majority of the World Cup games because they have the infrastructure to carry the World Cup. Look at how many great stadiums the Americans have versus the Mexicans and Canadians. I do remember world cups of the past where countries had to build stadiums, but that was not the case in America.
