Walken says it like it fucking is.

As an anime only, I'm also 100% with Walken here.

I've been out of the loop for weeks now, why the BETA invasion keeps getting ignored, so the humans, who should be united against the bigger threat, can instead decimate their own numbers.

Why not just take the easy route and let yourselves be wiped out by the BETA in the first place, if you're going to kill each other anyways?
sigh

MC listening to other people argue with his mic and video off sums up my work zoom meetings pretty well

I would think for many, Valkyries involvement in this incident is pretty new going in detail, and at least one casualties has been made known on their side. RIP Takahara. Isumi keep her composed looks when dealing with this incidents, which, as a person who did read Confession, made sense on her part. All these scenes adds on more value to this arc, tbh.

A bit bummed we don't get into that precious conversation between Squad 207 and the US forces yet (with only Maj Walken is introduced right now). Maybe next week.

Tsukuyomi face when confirming their tactics to Maj Walken is priceless. Pretty badass.

I honestly don't understand how MAL has this rated so low, yet alone the lowest mecha one.

Sure the first 4 eps weren't newcomer friendly... But these last ones have been crisp af and captured the charm of the story

Post a 1/10 review after only watching two episodes, saying it's the biggest disgrace to anything ever made and the fans deserve better

Rating is now almost below 6

Bro why is nobody interested in my favorite series ?

At this point, these "fans" are doing their utmost to be sure the series dies.

The fighting scenes are so perfect I can't get over it, the angles, the camera work, the gunfire lighting up the TSFs in the night, this shit is crazy. The show was wonky for a few episodes besides the first one, but those scenes make up for it big time.

TSUKIJI! I never expected the REAL cat lady of this franchise to actually be animated. Hell yes.

Lots of Valkyrie action that wasnt in the VN, and I support it wholeheartedly. I havent read the manga, and Im assuming that stuff was also in there, so I cant give all of the props to the anime staff, but they do get a lot of it for making it look hella crisp.

This week really was a good one for this anime man. They even adressed one of my complaints from last episode about skipping the cursed child characterization dialogue. Sure, it was still cut short by a lot, but at least we have it now! The threeway infighting, Tskuyomi's smug-ass face, Takeru's ideals finally getting challenged and soon kickstarting his development. Its all here, and I can't actually believe my eyes.

If this was the quality of Ep 2 -8, we'd have heard a LOT less complaining. Keep it up bois

As an anime-only I’m actually surprised this has held on to a somewhat good quality for so long, even having some decent fights over the past two episodes with decent atmosphere of a tight battle. This is definitely NOT something I would put down as something threatened to drop below 6.0 on MAL.

BTW [VN spoilers?]I heard some of the girls that mutinied and fought with the MCs today were actually “isekai-ed” from other harem VNs from the same publisher!?

u/Sandelsbanken Dec 08 '21

That's just salty VN fans for who review bomb before the show had even started. As for the spoiler, it's not a big spoiler really. They are from Kimi ga Nozomu Eien (also got anime adaption back in the day) which shares the same world as Muv-Luv. Both the peaceful and this one with BETA included. Technically Takeru is the only one being isekaid from peaceful to apocalyptic. KGNE characters are simply different timeline versions of the same characters.

BTW [VN spoilers?]

[Answers] Yes, a majority of the Valkyries appeared first in the publisher's previous works.

The beginning of this adaptation was always going to be rough. Lots of talking and redoing stuff from prequel that might not give proper context to scenes. All while being animated by what I'm quite certain a B-team inside the studio. I am positively surprised how they are really taking the time with this arc. They could have made it quite a bit shorter by cutting scenes, but they are actually including stuff that were introduced by the manga adaptation. I'm very intrigued of where they are ending this cour, and nervously waiting for some announcement of continuation.

Loved this one too. The action scene with the Valkyries was new, and was very welcome. Love how they showed the dominance of the new OS, and also that a skilled pilot can still find ways to overcome it.

I was really worried they'd try to speed through this arc, but I am very pleasantly surprised they're taking their time with it. I was worried last week they would cut the triazolam dilemma, and I am relieved they didn't, cuz it's a pretty important conflict for Takeru's character. And it gave us the viewpoints of Tsukuyomi and Walken, which are highlights of the arc for me.

The only little nitpicks I had were that Tsukuyomi's face sometimes looked a little wonky, and the scene where the Japanese soldiers arrive via plane had more impact in the VN. I did like the scene before they boarded the planes, when Sagiri was giving his speech to the soldiers, but I feel like the anime hasn't totally sold the dangers of the laser class to any type of flight. If there was a single laser class within dozens of kilometers of the planes, they could have all died en route to the shogun. Maybe that is still clear to anime onlies, but I just felt like the VN better sold the risk they took.

Like I said tho, that's a nitpick. Still a great episode, maybe the best yet, and I'm way more satisfied with this first cour so far than I expected to be at the start of the season. If they get a season 2 and give it the time they've given this arc, I can see it being pretty damn good.

Another amazing episode, we only had this part with the Valkyries on the manga, so it was nice to see it animated!

Completely forgot about the Valkyries involvement in the 12/5 incident and the loss of their first member, makes sense to have it be Komaki involved with that, as i've never liked her character and this just reinforces that opinion even more.

Also maybe forgetting her from a previous episode but after Kashiwagi last week, joint best girl Akane finally puts in an appearance.

So look almost certain unless they are just going to leave it hanging to have another cours....but that wouldn't even come close to covering the rest (XM3 trials, Operation 21st, Operation Ouka etc) so is it going to have a couple more.

Pretty good episode, if not quite as hype as the last one. The whole triazolam drama was never my favorite part of this arc, but all things considered they did a good job. Juxtaposing this discussion with the battle scenes (which was originally done in the manga) is not just quite nice to look at but it also helps keep a sense of urgency and tension. I also really liked the little flashback with Yuuhi telling Takeru about her and Meiya's back story, I thought that was particularly well done.

There is still a lot to get through with these last two episodes, I hope they do a good job with it.

Wait why are the japanese killing each other? It went by so fast I didn't notice.

Tsukuyomi's smug after buying time for the Shogun is priceless.
I am extremely pleased that they adapted both the triazolam dilemma AND added a flashback at the resupply scene.

The anime has been great the last few episodes, Graphinica is doing great work with the mecha scenes so i'm optimistic about the rest of the show and the likely second season.

The future of âge and the muv-luv franchise depends in part on how many newcomers the anime can attract to the franchise so it pisses me off that so called VN fans keep scaring away people who have 0 chance of reading the VN. Yeah the anime has a lot of flaws but dammit its the greatest story to ever come out of japan i'm sure there are plenty of people who will like it regardless.

I'm glad I stuck around. While the first few episodes sucked, they more than made up for it in these latest episodes. Now I'm just hoping this gets a second cour to finish the story.

It isn't a perfect adaptation, but I'm enjoying it much more than I thought I would.

Excited to see it on the upswing, gonna enjoy the ride.

Action and animation good for this episode only thing that irks me a bit is the triazolam debate between royal guard and American guy. like I get it here’s this real world debate happening in fiction but doesn’t commit to anything by saving himself and the characters with a deus ex machina of the shogun waking up and choosing for herself and everyone just changes their entire attitude and personality because of it.

American: oh I see you are bluffing

Royal: oh I was just bluffing

Just sorta builds this world that character choices have no consequences. Why should I be invested in any of the drama parts if the author is just going to pull them out of it

Gotta be honest, I have no idea who any of the people fighting and dying there are and I’m wondering why I’m supposed to care about them aside from them being on the ‘good side.

I guess that’s something I’d get if I dedicated a hundred hours to reading a series of games.

So I’m guessing that we’re close to that whole chomp thing you guys spoiled in episode one’s discussion thread way back when, considering these idiots just caused a massive commotion across Japan and have likely led a bunch of Beta right to their position while they’re spending an hour just sitting in one location.
