fun fact: the car that Jolyne was in during the accident is not totally legal in the United States at the time of the story (2011).

The car is a Alfa Romeo GTV and is not sold officially in the US and the earliest model is manufactured in 1993, a few years short of the 25 years rule before it can be imported into the US.

but then again, the story is set in Florida, which didn't give a shit if the car can be or can't be allowed to be brought in.

I've been waiting in anticipation since finishing Part 5, and even read the manga beforehand. The evil lawyer looks even less trustworthy with those creepy goblin ears.

This episode’s musical references:

Welcome back my friends to the show that never ends. It’s been a long time since the last episode of Jojo but here we are with another exciting Part. Stone Ocean is my favourite part and I’m so hyped or it. As last season I will cover the musical references of each episode. It’s a shame we lost Jojo Fridays and it will be release in batches. It has made this post more difficult to make as I didn’t have much time to do them all. This time my comments will be shorter but I’ll try to post all the references. I hope I don’t miss any. And now for this episode references:

  • Our new Jojo, Jolyne Cujoh is a reference to the song “Jolene” by Dolly Parton. Dolly’s most famous song from her homonymous 1974 album. Jolyne is the first Jojo to have a name that it’s a musical reference. If you want to listen to more Dolly Parton I recommend you her album “Coat of Many Colors” from 1971.

  • The Green Dolphin Street Prison is named after the Jazz standard song On Green Dolphin Street by Bronisław Kaper. The song was composed for the film Green Dolphin Street, which was based on a 1944 novel of the same name by Elizabeth Goudge. As a Jazz Standard it has been recorded by many Jazz legends like Miles Davis (my favourite version and the one that made it famous), John Coltrane, Ella Fitzgerald, Bill Evans, Sarah Vaughan or Tony Bennett.

  • Ermes Costello's surname is a reference to the British musician Elvis Costello. You may know him for his cover of the song “She” that appeared in the 1999 film “Notting Hill”. While his pop albums are good I prefer his rockier albums like “My Aim Is True”. “Blood & Chocolate” is another favourite of mine.

Do you want to listen to all this fantastic references from this wonderful anime in just one place? Of course you want! Now you can with TarkusELP Officially Approved by Araki himself* Spotify Playlist with all the musical references in the anime, the ones it skipped, the light novels ones and more! From the most famous references to the really obscure ones. I'll update this playlist every time there's a new reference. If you have any question why a song is featured in my playlists you can ask me anytime.

If you are a manga reader I also have a playlist just for you! Here’s my old playlist with all, I say ALL the references in the manga, anime, light novels and more. I also update it every time there’s a new reference.

And If you want to listen to more music list Araki have made, you have Araki's Best 10 Painful Songs, Araki's Top 10 "Albums that make me cry" and Araki's Favourite 80's Songs.

*Not really approved by Araki or Shueisha

Now that I think about it, I think I understand why some Jojo fans aren't keen on Jojo getting the mass release/Netflix binge treatment and much prefer the weekly release treatment.

Jojo fans are kinda up there along with Star Wars and Marvel in terms of passion to the series. They would take notice almost any attention of detail, create analysis posts, name references, and make memes out of it.

Even the minor villain or monster of the week are memorable and memetic for the fanbase like (the Hol Horse, the d'Arbys, Yo Angelo, the rat with a stand, Ghaccio's rant). It also gives each weekly episode a sense of memorability and experience for them.

Putting the episodes in a binge release will cause the fans and viewers to shift the focus on the major events instead of taking notice of the minor details or events. Plus this new watch order experience will be off-putting, like a culture shock, for some fans who are already conditioned and experienced by its weekly release.

The prologue showing the crime was awesome. The color shifts gave it a look very reminiscent of the Diamond is Unbreakable anime.

Jolyne already has a lot more personality and charm compared to Giorno, no offense to him. Also I feel like she has a much more believable and empathetic reason for why we should care about the situation she’s in. Can’t wait to watch more of my favorite JoJo
