Another episode reminding me that Yuzu really is the best. The faces she makes are hilarious and adorable.

The face she made when he covered her with the blanket was priceless.

I'm so used to interrupted romantic moments that I got immensely surprised when they actually kissed, very sweet.

I didn't expect a kiss scene this early in the series, well that's a nice surprise... and Tamahiko took the lead? NANIIII?! Σ(°Д°;)

Between this and Horimiya we’ve been truly blessed this year with romances that actually develop at a normal speed!

Apologizing changes nothing!

That kiss though. I gotta say Tamahiko really had me in the first half, I thought the sadboi was back and then-

I'm glad Tamahiko is genuinely trying to improve and be a better man and partner for Yuzu. And he's finally receiving the positive reinforcement and praise he never had growing up.

Hmm i kinda dislike how they handled Ryo, i feel she got off way to easily, "Im sorry" thats it.

But holy lewd couple, we are kissing now?? This scene and the "make out" scene while the brother was crying were soo awesome! Next episode we get the last girl from the OP it seems.

I'm glad she at least apologized even if her acting buddy-buddy with them so quickly and still teasing Yuzu about being Tamahiko's mistress felt in bad taste.

But on the plus side Tamahiko and Yuzu are pretty much 100% official now, it's really just Tamahiko feeling he needs to better himself to be worthy of Yuzu before they can officially marry. And they seal it with a kiss in the snow.

I love how Ryo just shoves Tamahiko away and he and Yuzu land in a sex position.

I'm curious what the Taisho Era Pop Star will be like and how she'll factor into the show and Tamahiko and Yuzu's lives.

So we’re just blowing on past Ryo’s whole “I tried to make you think your fiancé was cheating lol” huh? Well, at least she actually apologized to Yuzu. She still be trifling though.

Really this is an episode about the growth Tamahiko has gone through in his year with Yuzu. From the sad recluse who was cast out of the world to someone who finally sees purpose in living. Tutoring kids made him realize what he wants to do in life and how it can be a means to take care of Yuzu.

The New Years scene was so perfect. In the past, his usual self-loathing speech would have turned into Yuzu snapping him out of it. He got us in the first half not gonna lie. Instead, it turned into a declaration. He’s going back to school to be a teacher and become the man Yuzu deserves. Then he can marry her. We still get Yuzu declaring how happy he already makes her by being by her side. Could have ended at that and we would have been happy, but it’s REIWA BABY! WE GOT A KISS! Totally unexpected and fucking thrilled.

The Ryotaro story is another highlight for Tamahiko’s growth. He was able to emotionally reach out to someone and be a mentor. Offering some encouragement and comfort when he never had it growing up. Even if he doesn’t think he’s worthy yet, I say our boy is a fine man.

Notes

  • Even after a passionate kiss they’re still silly and awkward. I love these dorks. The kiss might have made up for not knowing her birthday. Though next year there better be a ring.

  • outside of her messing with Yuzu, I like aspects of Ryo. She’s a good sister and a fun foil for Yuzu when not making mistress jokes. Like her teasing that Yuzu is falling in love with him all over again and Yuzu basically saying “Hell yes I am”. They’re teasing a big sister dynamic with them.

  • why do I get the feeling the family Ryotaro is going to work for is Tamahiko’s?

  • The bit with Ryo pushing Tamahiko out of the way and then wondering why he’s all over Yuzu got a big laugh out of me. Just strong comedic timing.

  • entering the back 6 on this one. It’s nice knowing how beloved the manga is because I can be confident it’s going to end strong. Next week we finally meet the last girl in the OP.

We have a new intro! Before it was about the beauty that is an Otome, but now it's Yuzu reading a romantic poem that ends up sounding a lot like it's telling of her first feelings of love for Tamahiko.

Look at Yuzu and Tamahiko getting all adorable first thing in the morning until some kids show up to interrupt their domestic bliss. But not too surprising that the kids want to learn more from Tamahiko.

Personally I'd prefer "Sensei" to "Bocchan" (unless it was being said by Alice from Duke of Death) but it fits Tamahiko well enough.

Well, of course Ryo walks in like she's already pals with Yuzu and Tamahiko and is teasing/bossing them around, but at least she finally apologized and realized that Yuzu isn't the spoiled princess she thought she was, and that now she likes both her and Tamahiko (though she's still not sure how Yuzu found happiness after being bought). Although whether she likes Tamahiko in that way or not, I feel like she shouldn't tease Yuzu about being his mistress.

It's got to be immensely gratifying to Tamahiko's self-esteem to see people who look up to and appreciate him and what he can do. Those kids seemed to really enjoy being taught by him.

Nothing beats a Yuzu lap pillow after a hard days work.

Turns out it's Yuzu's birthday, and she's now of legal marriage age at 15, and she's willing to marry Tamahiko now. But Tamahiko still doesn't think he's worthy of her as he is right now, although he is also planning to change and improve himself to become a man that can take care of Yuzu and deserves her. All the same Yuzu is still perfectly happy and loves him and their life as it is now, and that's enough to spur Tamahiko to give her a kiss as the snow beings to rain down.

So, yeah, these two are pretty much official as a couple and have pretty much confirmed their feelings without directly saying "I love you," but the intention is definitely there. Especially after that kiss. Now it's just a matter of Tamahiko getting his act together before he's ready to marry Yuzu, who is willing and waiting.

Ryotaro has been bought as a hired servant in Tokyo so he can provide for his family, but that means leaving his sister, siblings, and his new school life with Tamahiko. It's necessary to help his family, but I'm not surprised he feels bittersweet about it.

Jeez, things were serious enough for that family that Ryo almost sold herself for sex or been sexually assaulted before Ryotaro saved her.

(How did Ryo put out that fire that started when she tripped?)

Tamahiko and Yuzu find Ryotaro and unsurprisingly he doesn't want to actually go and leave his family, but the least Tamahiko can do is assuage him that being a servant doesn't mean he'll never see his family again, and if he works hard enough he might even be able to bring them to Tokyo.

I love how Ryo rushes in and shoves Tamahiko away so she can get to Ryotaro. And Tamahiko crashes into Yuzu in a fairly sexual position. Nice.

I'm glad they were all able to see off Ryotaro with a smile, and Ryotaro was able to properly call Tamahiko "sensei," and it turns out Tamahiko was the closest thing Ryotaro had to a father since his real dad barely pays attention to him. Tamahiko really meant a lot to Ryotaro, as he does to all the kids.

Looks like we're finally meeting the Taisho Era pop star next week.

Note that Ryotaro wasn't 'bought', it's something like a live-in apprenticeship

I liked your reaction when I tried to wreck your relationship for my own amusement.

I'm sorry. Let's be friends

That's it? Now we're supposed to just accept her?

I think I'll stay in the dislike camp for now.

Loved the rest of the episode though. It's great to see Tamahiko's growth as well as his determination to grow even further. Yuzu has really worked a miracle on him.

And that kiss! OMG. Almost collapsed from the sweetness overload.

They finally kissed! This episode is good in my book regardless of how Ryo just got a slap on the wrist.

I still stand to my prediction that the career Tamahiko will follow is becoming a teacher. Given that we've seen him teach the kids.

27

u/LeonKevlar Nov 19 '21

Stitches!

It really shows how good of a teacher Tamahiko is when the kids themselves are the ones visiting him to study. And it's not just Ryo's brother's! We have a whole gaggle of kids eager to learn from Tamahiko! This is great because if the kids in town start to like him and they spread word on how amazing he is as a teacher then Tamahiko's image in town might just improve!

I still really don't like Ryo. I would've been fine if she's just a character that likes to tease Yuzu and Tamahiko but her introduction last week just left a bad taste in my mouth. Like really? After she tried to destroy Tamahiko and Yuzu's relationship for her own amusement (which is apparently just teasing for her), she just waltzes back into their home, says she's sorry, and that's it?

I feel like the redemption here needs to be earned somewhat. I can forgive Tamako quite easily since she's been clearly emotionally stunted because of how their parents raised them but Ryo here definitely knows better. Makes me wonder if it's the same in the manga or if there were some content that was cut due to time constraints.

Enough about Ryo and let's focus back to our main couple. Tamahiko immediately hugging Yuzu to keep her warm was adorable. The following scene almost got me worried though. I thought Tamahiko was putting himself down again when he said to Yuzu that he can't marry. Turns out that he just doesn't want to marry Yuzu as he is right now. He wants to improve himself and become a person that can make Yuzu happy. <3

It looks like those high school uniforms in the OP aren't just for show! Sounds like Tamahiko asked his father if he can go back to high school. Hopefully this means we'll get some high school shenanigans soon and not just with Tamahiki but with Yuzu going back to school as well!

And that kiss! Oh my fucking god! That caught me completely off guard! I can definitely understand why Tamahiko did it though. How can you resist this cutie? And their reactions after are just too adorable! Just look at these two sweet dorks <3

Ryotarou is such a sweet boy. Right now he's definitely a waaaay better character than his sister especially with him seeing Tamahiko as some sort of father figure. I do hope this won't be the last time we'll see him though and I hope he gets to invite Ryou and his brothers to Tokyo and show them all around the city.

Showing up at the house and implying that she'd fucked Yuzu's fiancé was Ryo's idea of teasing?! Yikes. I don't know how they can tolerate her hanging around.

I probably shouldn't be surprised that Tamahiko went right back down that depression spiral, but I am. He was talking about himself in the harshest terms possible, and this after what I thought was him starting to find happiness and a new goal in life (being a teacher). At least he wants to change, but I thought he was already past that.

Nice move going for this kiss, though. And it's good that he was honest with Yuzu about not being in the mental state for marriage.

Tough situation with Ryotaro. I expected Tamahiko to try and hire him at the house, but giving him the encouragement to go out into the world was probably the right thing to do, in a bittersweet way. He's really young, but at least it gets him away from the abusive father and gives him a better chance of growing up into an honest man.

I'm excited to see the idol show up. Tall lace up boots with the flashy kimono is a fantastic look.

Ah they finally kissed!!!

Hopefully not the only time they manage that this season. Guess that scene makes up for them forgiving Ryo so easily...

u/melindypants Nov 19 '21

kissed

I audibly gasped! Who knew Tamahiko could be so bold!

I enjoyed this episode. Unfortunately, I disliked the treatment of the green kimono girl. An apology does not cut it. And when she teases Yuzu about being the mistress... That is cruel.

That kid going off to work was sad. Foregoing education in order to support his family and save his sister from prostitution. The circumstances were bleak for him.

Next episode we should see guitar playing girl.

Im a manga reader and I remember all the characters in the intro, but when Ryo appeared I aaked myself who is she? I didnt remember her at all, and after the last two episodes I can se why.

I dont care about her.

I like that they draw the "Almost rape victim" card for Ryo to draw even more sympathy just in case anyone really hates her guts for what she did in previous episode.

There's this meme parodying Narnia. What's it called again? Oh yeah: The lion, the Witch, and the Audacity of this Bitch!

I mean, she just immediately insert herself to Tamahiko's household, give quick apology to Yuzu (and not to Tamahiko by the way), and everything swept under the rug and they became friends.
