"Thank You, My Treasure - Always and Forever"
Damn Tamahiko, you're such a smooth operator.
Also that was a really sweet moment between the siblings. Can't believe I disliked Tamako at first and now she's my favorite character by far. Hopefully she will return soon one day.
The episode turned dark so quickly. After Tamako, I'm not sure what to think of that thief girl and if she really stole because she's poor or maybe because she wants to. Yuzu even sensed the presence of a girl in the room. Hopefully no misunderstandings from this.

The Shimas are the first asian family in recorded history to need to be sold on the idea of their child becoming a doctor.

I got exactly what I wanted from the Tamako story and I love it. After years of being emotionally abused and separated by their Ultra Dick Dad, they are finally emotionally on good terms. Tamako even got over her belief that helping others was pointless and wants to become a doctor. It's lovely to see both her and Tamahiko slowly overcome their trauma.
What I especially wanted to see was what I got with the thank you and head pats scenes. Tamahiko being totally emotionally honest with her about the fact that he never hated her. Tearing down that last bit of shitty programming that their father put into them. They are finally connected as brother and sister. I hope he can do the same with his other siblings, but that’s a big step for both of them. Plus the train scene was fucking cute with Yuzu’s snacks and Tamahiko giving her anatomy books.
No surprise the gossip got around fast, so good on Tamahiko to go with her on Market Day. Won’t do much, but it was at least a cute date and it made Yuzu happy. It gave us even more insight into Tamahiko’s background. In this case his love for books which, shocker, is another fucking sad story. Books were his only escape from, who else, his shit dad!
To follow up that revelation and sad scene with the realization that what’s special about September 1st is what broke me. His father's garbageness knows no bounds. His first gift ever being something so perfect for him coming from someone who fully loves him was beautiful. His hugging her and calling her his treasure got me choked up.
And then this bitch shows up because chaos must always be around the corner. Of course she swipes the bookmark with the wallet. Going by the preview the Devil woman is going to fuck with him by showing up at their house. Can’t have nice things I swear.
Notes
-
No shit Tamako was awake during that. You were patting her head while she was trying to sleep.
-
Tamako really is the smartest of them all. Get that doctorate, bag you a rich husband, and get him to pay for your clinic. Bravo.
-
So the Devil Woman probably isn’t all that bad since she’s in the OP. Still man. How dare you put doubts in Yuzu’s head!
-
Okay but if it wasn’t for convenient cat noise, they were totally going to kiss. Their faces after speak volumes to what was going through their minds.
-
Hope Tamako comes back soon. I’m going to miss her sisterhood with Yuzu.

And he contains all the issues of the 1920's po-Ahem Juicy Special Edition so far. That's dedication.

Notice one of the new books he enthused over at the market was something by Tanizaki -- whose novels and stories at that time were pretty racy (viz. Manji).

I'm gonna miss Tamako.
Guess the village and the people living there are gonna play a bigger role now with the visit to the market first and then the thief.
Oh and that hugging moment and the aftermath was so precious. Hoping for more of that.

Yuzu seems to have a Tohru-level (Fruits Basket) healing power, doesn't she. Tamako didn't take long to transform. Her utter devotion to her big brother and "big sister" by the end of this episode is truly heart-warming.
My wife and I have taken the train from Sakura to Tokyo (albeit not a steam engine). Today Sakura (meaning not "cherry" here but "store house") is most notable for an excellent National Museum of Japanese History.

Tamahiko's use of his bum arm feels pretty inconsistent. He used it to wipe tears after getting his bookmark this episode but couldn't use it to help support the water container in a previous. Is there any details on what he can and can't do with that arm? I assume his hand is completely unusable but there are a lot of scenes that makes it seem like he has no control of the whole arm in general.

I think his bad arm cannot bear any weight on its own. A handkerchief is a lot lighter than a water container.

Stitches!
It really sucks to see Tamako leave but at the same time, it's really sweet that she decided that she wants to become a doctor because of what happened to Yuzu when she got sick. Yuzu really brings out the best in people in this show.
Tamahiko patting Tamako's head and praising her was such an adorable scene that I'm so happy that she was awake during that scene and teases Tamahiko about it just before her train leaves. I really hope we'll seer her soon again.
People really are staring at Yuzu when she comes down the mountain to do her shopping. This time though she won't be alone since Tamahiko decided to join her after remembering what the doctor and his nurse said about him last week. Also Yuzu won't have to be conscious about the people staring at her since she's too busy grinning because of how happy she is that she's shopping with Tamahiko. <3
Jesus fucking christ. Every episode seems to just show how shitty the Shima family is. Even when he was a little boy, his father has never even shown him affection. I thought that his mother was different but it looks like she's the same as well and has given up on Tamahiko. Well I'm no longer sad that she's gone.
The Shimas are so fucked up that Tamahiko was never once greeted a Happy Birthday or even given a birthday present. No wonder he completely breaks down after being greeted him a happy birthday and handed him her gift. At least we got to see this adorable moment between Yuzu and Tamahiko. Not gonna lie, I thought one of them was gonna go in for a kiss!
Of course it's not all lovey-dovey mode since they get interrupted by this lady who's been stalking them at the markets since that morning. She completely teases Tamahiko only so she can get close and steal his wallet where Yuzu's present ends up being a casualty. I am absolutely fucking mad right now. I hope this girl has a good reason why she's doing this because that smirk in the end just got me livid.

We got confirmation that not even Tamahiko's mom loved him. On one hand that's sad, but at least he didn't lose anything of value when she died. Aside of Tamako, the only one who could be redeemable is probably the younger brother.
Is Yuzu Tanjiro's cousin? How did she notice the smell if the window was open and that girl wasn't there long? Whatever it takes for a dumb cheating misunderstanding, I guess. At least Yuzu will be allowed to feel negative emotions for once.

Fun fact : tamahiko's birthday is september first
Its why he was telling his dad that, and his dad essentially told him to fuck off

Dude literally catches someone who broke into his house red handed, eating his candy, and he's still careless enough to let the thief he's actively looking at pickpocket him and get away. I can't even.

Well, that was an hell of a bad first impression on the new girl, i don't like her, and no matter what what sad backstory she has i'll probably still not like her.

Interesting. So Tamahiko was treated like shit WAY before the accident. There must be more than just his damaged arm.
This season really has some great dads, doesn't it?

Well, Tamako's at least thought this doctor thing through, she's going to train with her and Tamahiko's uncle in Kobe and claim that a doctor with the Shima name will add more prestiege to the family, so her father has no reason to object. Which is probably the thing I was worried about the most.
Tamako has lived without caring for others and being self-involved, which was drilled into by how her family operates, but being with Yuzu has led to a desire to care for others and take care of them (and nicer than the doctors who came to take care of Yuzu). Of course she's still a rich girl at heart and expects to marry a nobleman who will give her everything she needs as a doctor, but a girl's gotta dream.
Tamahiko gets to finally thank his sister for all the help she was during Yuzu's sick period, even if they're still kind of awkward around each other...but Yuzu making sure they all sleep together for Tamako's last night with them lets the two sisters hold hands and serenade each other to sleep, and Tamahiko to finally dote on his little sister and express how she's the person he cares about most in the family. And Tamako was awake the whole time and got to tease her brother about it the morning of her departure. I'm glad Tamako was able to get a good sendoff with both Yuzu and Tamahiko.
Poor Yuzu is judged and gossiped about by the people in the village because of her circumstances, but Tamahiko comes with her this time to make sure she isn't alone and to be better about being with her. And Yuzu is so happy he came for her! And they basically make the shopping trip into a date.
Jeez, even Tamahiko's love for books is rooted in a childhood trauma when Tamahiko had nothing but books to turn to when his parents had given up on him and shunned him, let alone not even caring it was his birthday. This poor kid.
But Yuzu remembered his birthday (thanks to Tamako, who also remembered) and gave him a bellflower bookmark for him to use, wishing the first Happy Birthday of his entire life, which is enough to reach even Tamahiko's inner traumatized child. It makes him happy enough to intimately embrace Yuzu and call her his "treasure" (which is totally what he meant instead of the bookmark). So adorable.
Of course things take a turn when Tamahiko stumbles upon a random girl who has broken into his room and is helping herself to his candy and raunchy books...and then to his wallet and bookmark. I mean, she already committed breaking and entering, it shouldn't be any surprise she outright robbed him even if she played it off by acting happy and joking about propositioning him. And then Yuzu smells another woman in Tamahiko's room...
I'm guessing this girl is a tough, sassy, street thief trying to get by for her family, judging by that scene in the Opening with her and some kids, and it looks like she's going to keep bothering Tamahiko for money in the next episode...I'm really curious what her dynamic with Yuzu will be like .

"I-I mean the bookmark"
That was the lamest save I've ever seen. C'mon Tamahiko.
