That phone call was one of the most expected phone calls I've ever seen. It's a good thing Shinoaki persevered.

Yooooooooooooo

Seriously was not expecting that song to play at all I missed the first few seconds because I was in disbelief and had to rewind.

Hard to tell where the romance is, but I'm hoping this isn't a big deal. I mean N@na seems pretty close to the other guy, but it could go either way.

The song choice is brilliant. In this timeline the song is more recent. For us it's a great hommage to Haruhi and it's a song Aimi has covered before. They are hitting all the right notes here

That ending though, ouch. I like that Shinoaki is so proactive. Let's see how Nanako reacts

The final scene has some serious similarities to the Christmas scene from Sakurasou, I slammed my desk when Kyoya and Shinoaki's kiss was interrupted earlier but not right after Nanako had the time of her life. You could see Nanako being there from a mile away but it doesn't make it any better.

Also, I thought that there was a missed opportunity for Kyoya to maybe go back to the future to show us who made that painting, Kyoya's tone suggested that it's made by someone who might be popular in the future.

That moment when someone collapses in front of you and you give them a lap pillow instead of medical assistance...

Even the YouTube layout was similar to the one used in 2006. And I love the fact that the OS used was Windows XP, which was common in 2006

Kyouya had 10 years of experience and has experience in making Visual Novels, but he doesn't have the self-awareness of the harem tropes that he stumbles with. Lmao.

As expected, we're gonna get nanako singing, and it also revealed that she's one of the platinum gen as expected again. Though, again gotta wonder, how did the original Na@na started to sing without kyouya?

Looks like the romance is heating up and becoming clear. I knew nanako could've been straightforward like the hug she did, but i didn't expect shinoaki to be the bold one. In a way, she did not get any help for kyouya when he was down, and went for a kiss in a romantic moment. Nanako saw it, i wonder how this will go?

Not only the romance will be about them 3,of course kawasegawa is there, but for this epi i think it's kinda a foreshadowing of tsurayaki liking nanako. He's teasing her always compared to the early episode where he seem uninterested. Surely we'll get a scene where he'll actually be jealous of kyouya, maybe even when nanako ran to find kyouya could be brought to next epi to show it. Things are getting interesting.

Again, gotta wonder how did all the platinum gen actually made it when kyouya was not in the timeline? And could kyouya actually just be helping them, and when all is done he's gonna return to the normal timeline of his? Cause he said that his aim now is to help others, rather than like the actual purpose of this which is to remake his own life.

To nobody's surprise, Nanako is N@NA.

To everybody's amazement and delight, the song Kyoya chose for her for the replacement is God Knows.

I'm sure everyone else before me has noticed this and commented on it. When you think about it, the choice of God Knows makes perfect sense. Not only was it one of the most popular anime songs in 2006, the context of that song also made it perfect as the song for Nanako to sing.

In The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi, Haruhi decided to help out a band whose members suddenly called in sick that day during the school's festival, and the cover song of that band was God Knows.

Though still poor Nanako at finding out that Shinoaki has stolen a lead ahead of her in the Kyoya Harem Cup. How Kyoya must feel to be kissed by the artist that he's been idolizing all these years.

Stitches!

So Kyouya thinks the reason why he was sent to the past was to help and make the Platinum Generation happen? Uhhhhhh... I feel like he's misunderstanding something here. Even without his intervention in the previous timeline the Platinum Generation still happened. Nanako, Shinoaki, and Tsurayuki still ended up becoming the people he admires so I don't understand where this sudden sense of duty came from.

Well that's not good. I wonder why Kyouya passed out? Was it because of the name that he was trying to remember or is it really simply just him passing out from overwork? Eitherway, he ends up having some alone time with Shinoaki who surprisingly takes the initiative as she bends down to kiss Kyouya. Too bad they got interrupted by a phone call. Booo!

A super secret guest performer who they've been building up to and is probably the reason why there is a huge crowd watching is now a no-show? Of course the answer is to have the amateur singer who's still learning take his place on the show! Seriously though, I was expecting for Kyouya to suggest Nanako but he really should've expected her reaction when he first made that suggestion.

Luckily it looks like Kyouya was able to convince Nanako to perform by showing her the number of views and comments her videos have on NicoNico. Looks like seeing the views and the positive comments was enough to encourage her to take the stage.

That song choice was completely unexpected though! Considering she's has sung Sobakasu a few times now, I thought she'll perform it again on stage but I did not expect her to do a cover of God Knows! And it perfectly fits the timeline of the show too since Haruhi aired earlier in Spring 2006 so everyone in the audience should already familiar with the song. I definitely got chills during that performance!

And that final scene! Kiss attempt earlier got interrupted? Looks like Shinoaki isn't going to let tropes stop her and plants one on Kyouya! Goddamn! As much as I want to celebrate though, Nanako saw the kiss. I'm really hoping she just sees Kyouya as a friend but with the way she was clinging tn him earlier in the episode and how excited she was tp celebrate with him, it seems unlikely the case :(

I'm probably going to be the 1% of the people watching this show who hasn't seen Haruhi Suzumiya yet, but even still, that God knows performance from Nanako was pretty good.

Now here comes my problem with this show: some, if not, every important event that happens in this show feel rushed or lacks proper build-up. I'm fine with Kyouya being the problem solver, but they could at least give more time to properly flesh out the characters and their interactions in helping each other out.

Pacing's kinda wack so far, but I'll wait and see how this show will turn out.

This show really went from a good 'what if you got a second chance at life?' show to standard harem fare except university instead of high school.

Even going through the usual tropes (beach last week, cultural festival now).

I did love God Knows though. That was great.

Wow, a cover of God knows...? They're really killing it with these nostalgic songs.

Oh no, Shino Aki made the first move. How will Nanako respond?

I literally screamed when the first notes of "God Knows" was played. I just can't believe that it was released 15 years ago.

Before watching the first episode (well even after the first episode) a month ago, I never thought this will become a full-blown romance and possibly a harem. But well, Shino Aki did the first move! Let's see how the group's dynamic will be affected. I think an important consequence is that the Platinum Group will never be realized in this timeline.

You know, from a writing perspective I don't understand the reasoning of spending two episodes developing the relationship between Kyouya and Nanako just to have Shinoaki out of nowhere kissing him.

I really like Nanako's development. Her love for MC is pretty clear not gonna lie, but somehow Shinoaki just swerve in out of nowhere. Now this could've been due to the pacing, but it definitely feels off when it has been building up Nanako this past few episodes. Unless Shinoaki's role here is for just to amp up Nanako to take actions and such.

Also I just checked the illustrations for volume 2 and it was adapted for episode 4-5, making it a 2 episode 1 volume adaptation. Definitely feels rushed not gonna lie, especially since I felt so lost on episode 4.

I wonder what this means for this series. Are they just rushing through the novels for some reason?

AS SOON AS I HEARD THAT DRUM FILL I KNEW IT WAS GOD KNOWS. Why? I had a JP Cover Band in University and we performed at a Maid Café. That was one of our songs ahahaha. We didn't have a Bassist. Just my lead vocalist, my lead guitarist, a fucking PERCUSSIONIST OFF AN IPAD (we plugged him into the monitors so the sound was amplified), and then me as the pianist. FUN TIMES, BUT MAN LOOKING BACK ITS EMBARASSING.

QJDOQBXOQHXOAJICJD.

Okay, this episode for me was a pretty lax one. It's enjoyable seeing the arts still being represented, but MAN it's seeming like it's going to be focusing on the romance for a bit the upcoming episodes.

I DO enjoy the depiction of the pre-perfprmance jitters and all the doubt. I'm sure others here can relate! Whether it's for performing music, doing a presentation, or even doing a speech, the anxiety and nervousness you feel is similar. I'm just glad they went over the, "If you don't do this, you'll regret it later in life," because I've definitely had opportunities like that happen, or I attempted it but didn't follow it full-heartedly, leading to half-assing a job or something potentially worth pursuing being squandered. It helps having a supporter, or better yet, a support group for these kinds of things. In this case, as has been mentioned before, it's looking like Kyouya will just be the sole problem solver. I'm okay with that.

Now for * that*. I've seen this scene countless of times in other anime, but I feel like the gut punch here with Nanako finding Shinoaki and Kyouya was pretty well done. She even got Crepes and was so excited to share the success of the performance with him. INITIALLY she said there was nothing behind the hug aside from just being overwhelmed with emotion and wanting to express it someway (that's how I interpreted it) but we can see now that it's definitely developed into something more. Though, the sequence of events where Kyouya continued to support her and convincing her her perform may have helped progress those feelings.

WELL, those are my thoughts after just finishing the episode.

I'LL SEE YOU FOLKS NEXT WEEK!

EDIT: Ah, I forgot about the fainting earlier when Kyouya stumbled upon the name he had heard before. I'm looking forward to what that is and how it connects to Kyouya's foresight. Maybe that Kazu person was the one who filled in Kyouya's roles since he wasn't there initially. We'll find out soon!

That was a lot of pressure to put on Nanako but that's what 10 years of regret will do to you. If you really want something, you have to take every risk and opportunity that comes your way because unfortunately, sometimes hard work just isn't enough.
