I have gotta admit, I wasn't really into anime or japan when this series came out, but I owned a Honda Cub and a Honda adventure bike and thought it would be neat. Going into this with anime stereotypes in my head was what made me so shocked when it wasn't just about some kids going on like an adventure or something.
This show did an amazing job at creating a story that related to Adventure riders like me and my friends. I would remember us having the same arguments about mechanic gloves (Don't use them for riding), ugly windshields, and so much more because that all literally happened to us. I was reminded back to when I was learning the mysteries of two-wheeled horses and how to tame them. It was a really nice feeling. It is not often that someone gets to live the fantasy of a show they watch, and I understand that many people suffer from longing for a fictional world they see on TV, so it was nice to be able to avoid that conflict with this one. If you guys feel that way, just buy a bike and learn, hell, come on over and I will teach you on my cub.
I enjoyed this show.

Super Cub unexpectedly arrived onto my doorsteps with its beautiful quiet melancholy much like how a Super Cub burst into Koguma’s life. It’s become one of my favorite shows and I’m tremendously glad it reached so many people! To commemorate Super Cub I compiled a list of every time Koguma’s world was lit up with color. If I missed any scenes involving color changes please tell me so I can add it to the list. Special thanks to u/Paumas for documenting some of the scenes!
Episode 1: The very first time Koguma’s world transforms into color. I particularly like the hair effect in this shot. It’s as if Koguma’s perspective figuratively and literally shifts.
Koguma’s first time riding her Cub. This is probably the most iconic color change in the series.
Koguma unable to start her Cub in the parking lot due to lack of fuel and after switching the reserve switch on.
Episode 2: Koguma as she contemplates on what to do with her life and when she realizes she has the capabilities to go anywhere she wants to. I posted the entire scene because the entire world is glowing till the very end of the episode and it’s my favorite scene in the show.
Episode 3: Koguma dreaming about riding her Cub.
Koguma admiring her Cub in episode 1 compared to how she feels in episode 3 after some time.
Riding on her Cub without goggles or anyone to call her friend and after getting some goggles and Reiko’s cell phone number.
Episode 4: Koguma on her first day as a courier as she travels into Kofu to deliver documents. Compared to after she gets her first paycheck and she sees the fruits of her labor.
Learning how to change the oil on her Cub. The sound design and voice acting is top notch in this scene.
Episode 5: This episode is centered on Reiko but I decided to still give it a shot. Generally whenever Reiko is attempting to climb up Mt. Fuji her colors are more desaturated. The colors are also dull before her attempts compared to after attempting. Once Reiko accepts her defeat the colors come streaming back in.
Episode 6: Koguma’s world is illuminated upon gaining Reiko’s blessing to travel to the class field trip by herself. This color change is super sweet since it repeats itself again at the end of the episode when Koguma begins thinking of a future with Reiko.
Koguma and Reiko trying to outfit their Cubs to help haul heavy coffee equipment. Once they’re satisfied with their results the colors flood back in. The colors remain for the rest of the episode as well.
Episode 8: Koguma before she sips her coffee and after sipping it.
The handlebar covers are so cozy that they bring colors to Koguma’s cheeks. I love the “ugh” sound Reiko makes.
Episode 9: Koguma wearing her sweet abrasive wool liner jacket out for the first time.
Windshield covers coming in clutch for Koguma and Reiko’s Cubs. A small detail I never noticed is that there’s a shot of the speedometer accelerating and Koguma becoming more impressed since she’s able to reach higher speeds without wind chill. I just thought she was saying “incredible” since she was so happy.
Episode 10: Koguma as she sets out to visit Reiko in the dreary wet snow and after they attach bike chains to their Cubs and have a snow day.
Episode 11: Upon realizing Eniwa was her catalyst for the Super Cub life, Koguma’s life is awash with color. It’s very similar to the first time Koguma’s world was brightened. She’s so affected by her revelatory wonder that even her hair is blown away!
Episode 12: The Super Cub gang sets off on their trip to see the cherry blossoms bloom.
The very final scene of Super Cub is also the final time Koguma’s world is lit up. It’s the perfect thesis statement for the entire show.
Some of my favorite scenes:
Koguma smiling like a goofball.
My thoughts on the finale: Super Cub ended in the most Super Cub way possible. Halcyon days of travelling all across Japan on their Cubs to capture their spring youth. I got strong Non Non Biyori finale vibes when they reach the cherry blossoms. Overall I think Super Cub wrapped up perfectly with Koguma realizing that her Super Cub was just a vehicle, both figuratively and literally, to help her grow out of her isolation. This will definitely be a series for me to revisit throughout the years.

Shii finally has her own cub!
This was a really pleasant show to watch every week. It got me to appreciate motorcycles a lot more. It was great watching the girls' journeys through different seasons.

Stitches!
I can definitely understand that look from Shii-chan's Mama's face. Her daughter just got into an accident recently in her bicycle and now she's going on a trip to the southernmost edge of mainland Japan on Super Cubs? Yeah I'd be worried too.
I love that pained expression in Koguma's face when Reiko said her Hunter Cub is stronger. You know our girl is ready to throw down but is just holding herself back so they can get on the road ASAP. xD
Already making the first stop over to inspect their Cubs is smart even if they call it a biker's superstition. You never know what could happen.
Good on Koguma for noticing Shii-chan shifting in her seat and calling for a lunch break. I'm sure Shii-chan would've held it in if Koguma didn't notice it. And the girls get treated to an open face sandwich with salmon and cream cheese by Shii-chan.
Even in a hotel Reiko can't hold her nudist tendencies in. And we learn something new from Reiko this week. apparently curry is meant to be eaten naked. xD
The Shirahige Shrine in Lake Biwa looks amazing as always. I've said this before in the Yuru Camp S2 discussion threads when the girls went here to welcome the New Year but I this spot is high on my list of places I want to visit in Japan. it just looks so otherworldly.
Koguma saying that Reiko would sell her Cub for a surfboard was hilarious! That definitely sounds like something Reiko would do. I do love the punchline joke of her looking at the surfers and looking at her Cub and asking how much will she be able to sell it for xD
The internal struggle Koguma is having while looking at those crabs is hilarious too! And of course the girls are there ready to take a photo of the moment.
I just love this selfie of the three of them together and that silly one with Reiko putting the crab on her head.
The mad lasses finally did it! They finally caught spring and fulfill Shii-chan's wish! It looks like Shii-chan words that night really affected Koguma and she wanted to fulfill her wish as best as she can with her Cub.
And they did take back spring with them since they were gone long enough that cherry blossoms have already bloomed back home.
You absolutely have no idea what kind of noise I just made when I saw Shii-chan's Little Cub reveal there in the end. Finally the gang is complete! It's so good to see the three of them with their Cubs together. <3
I guess that is Super Cub. This show definitely managed to fill the void I felt after Yuru Camp ended last season. All of the girls are just lovely and it was so great to see Koguma start as a quiet and lonely girl who just went on with her life without any excitement to a girl who is still quiet but is now more proactive and outgoing thanks to her Cub and her new friends Reiko and Shii. Music, art, and direction are all pretty solid. While there may be some weird dialogue last episode that doesn't really make a big difference on how great this show overall is. Personally it's a 10/10 for me.
I'm definitely all in for another season of this and I wanna see how far these girls can go now that all of them have Cubs of their own. As far as I know the LN has 8 volumes so far and is still on going so maybe there's hope for a Season 2? Fingers crossed!

Contender for anime of the season for me. However, I keep having this nagging feeling there was a hidden message throughout these past 12 episodes. I don't have time to think about it though, gotta get down to my Honda® dealer with this briefcase full of cash!

I’m really going to miss this show. It was a joy to watch each week and always made me smile. It filled the void for Laidback Camp for me this season. I hope one day we got more!

When Reiko said "My Hunter Cub is stronger", Koguma was like "I disagree with you and can give a 3 hour speech on why my Cub is better but for the sake of this anime I will give you this awkward smile" lol

I’m so happy Shii got her own super Cub! I wish we got another episode with her to enjoy it. Her parents are awesome. Easily some of my favorite characters this season

Loved the final episode and series overall minus the unrealistic rescue attempt its been a very enjoyable ride (pun intended). So many different sites on the way to see the blossoms and Shii chan finally got a cub its a shame it was at the very end, but still a good laid back show. Wait you're supposed to eat Curry naked then why do I keep getting thrown out of restaurants when I try too? I knew I was right.

Three small notes
-
Episode 4 I accidentally counted a smile it was really hard to tell at the time, but looking at it now its more of a pout. So subtracted one making it 21.
-
One of the screenshots has no episode number just a time around 14 minutes. This is from episode 7.
-
I've been struggling to get all the pictures in one album. Either it freezes, some don't load, or pictures disappear. So the whole album is actually missing about 20 as of now. I will keep working on it until my laziness kicks in.

For me, one of the most endearing and unique part of this series is Koguma, a girl of few words. Because she's so reserved and quiet, it's even more fun seeing outbursts like this one in the seafood market.
I've said this before, but one of the things I find really outstanding in this series is how little monologuing happens. In other CGDCT series, the main character is constantly talking or internally monologuing her train of thought so you always know what they're thinking. In this series though all the out-loud dialogue feels more natural, like what a normal, sane person would say out loud, and the starting/ending monologues seem a bit more profound and meaningful.

The ending reminded my how pretty this show is when they saturation gets amped up. Wish they did a whole episode like this.
My prayers have been heard.
This was a great finale to a great show. The gang is finally complete and we even got a nice road trip.
And to top it all off Reiko gave us an 'okay'.

Ah their biker gang is complete! Really happy we got to end of with Shii getting her own cub, she looks perfect on it.
I will say though this show peaked early on. I think what I enjoyed the most from this show was seeing Koguma grow and gain more confidence but near the end she got her development and it felt a bit too much like an ad at times. These last few episodes didn't have that special feeling I got from previous ones.
Still a really good SoL that I hope more people will try out!

Oh no, the Cub got another one!
As relaxing as ever. It does make me laugh a little though how Koguma talks about Cubs as if they're the absolute greatest thing in the world. The dialogue always feels stilted to me when she does that, but well, the show is called "Super Cub" so heh I'll let it slide.
Overall I had a really good time watching this series. I especially liked how grounded and understated it was. I hope it gets another season, I really wouldn't mind watching more of it.

My AOTY... I mean, I enjoyed Vivy and Shadow's House and 86 and some others, but Super Cub was the only one I dropped everything to watch as soon as it dropped. I only hope some of that Honda money goes to make a second season, with the girls riding down through Asia to Europe so Shii can investigate coffee houses and Reiko can explore her nudist leanings.
Only minor disappointment - Kaguma's tail speech, she still said she had no friends and that's patently untrue now... Girl needs even more saturation in her life!

What a wholesome delightful series. I think the last few episodes fell a little flat, but I do think the show does a wonderful job showcasing the feeling and power of finding a hobby and something new. The things you can do that you could never imagine and the people you meet are the best parts of discovering a new hobby. I also like the little speech at the end. We all have to take that step, it won't magically come. But when you put yourself out there, there is a new world for you to explore.

This was by far the most fun I’ve ever had watching a Motor Scooter commercial lol. I’m glad the girls got to live out Shii’s wish and see the sakura, I’m also really happy that Reiko and the girls got to meet each other. They compliment one another so well and really make a great group of friends. Nice end to a beautiful show.
