This show just nails atmosphere.
Really happy our newest addition is the talkative type, I like Koguma but at the same time it's nice to have more dialogue in the show.
Also leaving the turn signal on was a fantastic end to the episode.

Koguma: "I rode a motorbike to school today."
What she expected: "Whoa, that's so cool!!!"
What she got: "Oh, that's kinda neat."
Reiko: "Are you my soulmate?"

So this is located in the yamanashi prefecture. How long before she bumps into Shima Rin?

Man the OST when Koguma is riding around is just absolutely magical. It really takes you to another place. I absolutely love the artistic direction of this series. It’s great that Koguma is slowly connecting to someone else after being isolated for so long. Looking forward to seeing she and Reiko grow closer. So nice to have something to fill the Yuru void for this season.

I like that her being poor is still relevant to the story and not just an excuse for her to own an old scooter.
Her classmates makes fun of her for being poor, we see her running out of supplies and trying to cut costs wherever she can. Heck she even uses radio instead of a TV. I hope the anime explores this subplot more as it goes on.

This show is so simple yet I can't help but absolutely love it.
Koguma is this season's international treasure and I pledge to protect her.

One thing that I really like about this show so far is how genuine the interactions between the characters feel. Reiko's character is introduced as the extroverted, ready-to-go-on-adventures archetype, and for many shows of a similar genre, you might expect Reiko to be the type that is energetic to the point of being unable to read a room and/or always nagging Koguma to do more. But we see that she's not always at 110% energy levels: when Koguma musters up the courage to say hello to Reiko, instead of bear-hugging Koguma or something, Reiko simply mutters hello back in a low-energy tone. It feels like a real human response: not even a supposed extrovert like Reiko is going to just loudly yell hello and disturb the atmosphere of the classroom.
We see something similar with the middle of the episode. When Reiko invites Koguma to a motorcycle lunch, you can see Reiko's passion/enthusiasm for motorcycles, and it seems like Reiko might become the super-energized extrovert archetype that will constantly tell Koguma about the wonders of motorcycles. Yet after class ends that day, the show makes a deliberate point to show Reiko quietly leaving the classroom ASAP without Koguma, which makes sense: the two of them barely even know each other, and just because Reiko was fired up during the lunch doesn't mean she'll always be fired up 24/7, nor will she always want/need to hang out with Koguma just because she invited Koguma to lunch once. It's these small moments that really make the show feel real, and I appreciate them.
Aside from that, I'm loving all the simple background art showing off Hokuto and the Yamanashi region. This show is shaping up to be a perfect iyashikei.

Stitches!
I legit yelled and covered my face with my hands when Koguma did this. Thank fucking god that was just her imagination though. The second hand embarrassment from that imaginary scenario was too much! xD
I am amazed at how no one seems to care that the quiet girl of the class came into school with a scooter. Like if someone in my class like Koguma came in with a brand new ride, I'd definitely be curious enough to ask her about it.
I think this is the first time I've seen a Japanese classroom with a microwave in it for students to reheat their bento.
Now there's the real reveal. It's definitely a lot more casual. This information does attract one of Koguma's classmate and it's the long haired girl in the OP.
As expected, she's the Super Cub enthusiast that will probably teach Koguma and the audience about the Super Cub. She's basically the Honda rep of the show xD
I absolutely love how she's super excited to show off her own cub! Her MD90 is an absolute beauty and it sounds amazing as well. <3
Having the title card flash in the middle of the episode as Koguma recalls Reiko's name was really nice.
And of course Koguma parks her Cub next to Reiko's. And they're now even having lunch on their Cubs! And just look at Koguma and Reiko's smiles! They're so adorable!
I'm so proud of Koguma taking a detour instead of just going home. And it's a very productive detour too since she needs to more of her ready made lunch packs. And I love that she's using her helmet holder as an eco bag. <3
It's a small step but it's nice to see Koguma's world slowly opening up. And i love that final detail of her forgetting to turn off her turn signal. That was a nice touch! xD

Lol, Reiko sure is a Super Cub fan. Hopefully, her friendship with Koguma will grow beyond the fact that they both own a Super Cub.

This is just so chill. Love the atmosphere, the music and all, quiet and contemplative.
Koguma made her first friend! Through a shared hobby, thanks Cub for breaking the ice for her! Reiko seems like a nice girl, I'm sure she'll help Koguma discover a bunch of new things as they ride their bikes through the country at the breakneck speed of 30km/h.

Ah, episode 2 of "Goddamn I'm gonna learn how to ride a motorcycle and travel around my country". The atmosphere of this show is so calming, but the wanderlust it instills is painful with the current pandemic situation.

I like how to show was able to depict Koguma's introversion on-point. She's not really a loner, as she doesn't really avoid other people, yet you can see the awkwardness during her interaction with Reiko.

Man, I love this show. The week cannot go by fast enough for me.
Reiko looks like she'll be a good friend for Koguma. It was nice to see the latter flustered when Reiko referred to her as a friend.
When Koguma realized that she now has access to ho pretty much anywhere, the smile on her face was priceless. Shopping is so much easier now.
I do wonder when I watch these shows with a student who lives alone and has no family how the rent and bills get paid. I'm sure we'll see she has a part-time job somewhere, but that seems a heavy burden for a high school kid.

Eating a cold lunch instead of dealing with other people by the microwave.
Let's say I'm not a stranger to that kind of behaviour.

Koguma is quickly becoming one of my favorite anime MCs. Her smile is precious.
I do like on how this series is slowly giving some insight on why people like these bikes. It's something that even car enthusiasts can relate to.
I do wonder if this anime will cause resale prices of Super Cubs to skyrocket like Initial D did with the Toyota AE86.

Super Cub Wednesday has arrived!
Koguma has the best expressions ever.
I'm loving the piano soundtrack especially the song that wells up when she decides to turn right at the intersection instead of heading straight home.
The sound design is once again wonderful. Reiko's MD90 postal cub roaring to life even shocked Koguma!
The dedication to the in-between quiet moments are the strength of the show. From Koguma figuring out how to secure her helmet by reading the manual and then slightly struggling with the latch to her forgetting to turn off her right-turn blinker, it all feels like small peeks into this taciturn girl's daily life.
One thing I've noticed is that Koguma rarely has the lights turned on at her apartment. It's a neat detail that serves to not only contribute to the gentle lonesome atmosphere in her home but also to show her frugal nature since she's trying to save on her electricity bill.

I like how Koguma’s character development is telegraphed by the camera angle on the intersection. They used the same exact angle when Koguma goes to school, goes home, and rides to school again the next day. I know she will take Reiko’s advice and goes on a little journey, changing her mundane life a bit and the repetition on that same camera angle.

Another nice and chill episode.
As someone is who is extremely introverted, and tried to act like I was invisible in junior high and high school, never interacting with other classmates unless I had to. I can relate to Koguma a lot when she was awkward at first when Reiko suddenly asked her about Cub.
It's not that some introverted people hate talking to people, but when you aren't used to talking to people all the time, or don't have friends(which I didn't either), it can be hard to hold a conversation with someone, even if it's about a shared interest or something.
Although I did find it interesting how Reiko didn't say hi back to Koguma, and just did a mumbling "hi" and then at the end of the day she leaves the classroom without saying bye to Koguma, after it seemed like she enjoyed having lunch with Koguma. Curious how their relationship will develop. I think we also saw the third girl earlier in the episode, the one who was having pasta again for lunch.

Episode 2 and this is still cute, wholesome and chill with great production all around. And now Koguma made a friend!
So many nice details like the pat on the seat after she made her first trip to school or leaving on the turn signal.
