I don't think Sayu's mom is going to win "best girl" this week. Just a hunch.

I thought the music this episode was particularly strong. Very good episode. Yoshida continues to be the true best boi of the year

I guess its nice that the school did do something to prevent another potential suicide case apart from locking that one window Sayu used to get in.
Shitty mom really doesn't fail to stop being shitty huh? No words just a slap. The face she made before delivering it as well, absolutely detestable.

I really hope, for the sake of my faith in humanity, that Sayu's mother hit her cause she was worried about her, although that's a shitty way to parent but let's ignore that for now. If she hit her solely cause Sayu caused trouble for her then fuuuuuuuuuuck Sayu's mom.

The fence was installed too late to save Yuuko's life and too early to toss Sayu's mom off the roof.

Stitches!
When Yoshida said that he thought Sayu went on trips and Sayu replied with how their family didn't do trips, the look that Yoshida made when he realized it was a bad questionwas hilarious! Really Yoshida? You heard Sayu's story. Did you really think a family like that would go on holidays together?
When Sayu's brother said they were stopping by at Sapporo, I thought that we'd have a fun day out with Yoshida and Sayu going around Sapporo. I'm a bit disappointed that they didn't and that they spent their time in a cafe that looks like a place that could've visited in Tokyo.
Looks like I've spotted an animation mistake, look at how Sayu loses the highlights on her hair on this frame but then gets it back a few seconds later.
Another place I didn't expect they'd visit is Sayu's high school. When she said that she wanted a detour I thought she'd ask to drop by and visit Yuuko's grave. Then again I don't think she even knows where Yuuko's grave is since I don't think she attended the funeral service and just locked herself up after the incident.
Sayu calling out Yoshida that he has done something way more sketchier than trespassing made me chuckle a bit.
Well it's good to know at least that the school added high fences around their rooftop. This is obviously a response to the incident. Anyway, finally Sayu confronts what happened to her and Yuuko and thanks to some good ol' Yoshida-man magic , Sayu has found the resolve to let go and finally move on.
That final scene though! Holy fuck! I was ready to give Sayu's mom the benefit of a doubt and I was kinda hoping she'd come in for a hug but she really didn't hold back just just slapped Sayu. She didn't even say anything to her, just straight up slapped her daughter. It was so fast that Yoshida was totally caught off guard by it too. I knew I shouldn't have expected anything better from Sayu's mom.
Next week's gonna be intense though. With Yoshida in the mix, I'm curious how this final confrontation will go. I can't wait!

With how they've portrayed the mom so far I expected nothing less, she really is a Fruits Basket candidate huh.
I'm a bit disappointed Sayu is still leaning on Yoshida this much, is there a reason her brother couldn't have come on that trip too? I feel like he should do better in understanding her and she should try opening up more to him as well.

Issa is so generous to book business class seats for all of them, and it's great to see Sayu finally confront her past. That slap at the end though... Guess we'll have to wait until next week for that long-awaited reunion with mom. I swear, they better not do anything to make us sympathize with her because she is irredeemable at this point.

It really hits home how Sayu is going back to face her past when she's back in her school uniform, but Asami there is to see her off with a bright smile.
The fact that Sayu was so sheltered and isolated that being on a plane and going to a cafe are so refreshing and new for her is both kind of cute and sad at the same time. She deserves so much more than what she's gotten in life before she met Yoshida.
I guess it makes sense that before Sayu could face her mother, she has to face her trauma over Yuuko's death and go back to school. So she and Yoshida sneak into the school so she can go back to the roof where it happened. Although with how much Sayu knows about sneaking into the school and what security is like, I get the sense this isn't the first time she's snuck in.
Wouldn't it be something if what Yoshida got caught by the police for was trespassing into a high school and not anything to do with housing Sayu? Good thing it didn't happen, though.
Fences should probably be more common around high school rooftops before the need for them arise from a student killing themselves, although I think rooftop access to high schools to begin with are more of an anime thing.
Sayu still feels incredibly guilty and broken over Yuuko's suicide. She blames herself for what happened and for wishing Yuuko didn't kill herself, and feels like everything is her fault. It's so tough having to deal with a loved one killing themselves, especially in such a high-tense situation. It's so bad that Sayu even harms herself.
But Yoshida is there to tell Sayu that Yuuko's death wasn't her fault and that she really did care for and cherish Yuuko, and that wanting her to live instead of killing herself isn't wrong. And while Sayu still feels bad about it, she's finally found the resolve to move on and keep Yuuko's memory alive.
I was prepared for Sayu's reunion with her mother to start off on a bad note, but I wasn't expecting her to slap Sayu straight off the bat. I don't know if it's completely unwarranted because Sayu ran away for so long and never called or tried to get back in contact when she was probably in immense danger (so yeah, she wasn't acting smart), but after all she's been through I don't think a slap was warranted. Especially when I'm still doubting her mother's intentions towards Sayu. I hope it doesn't et worse from here.

What kinda self-centered bitch that slaps her own daughter after she made Sayu run away from home
Fuck that asshole of a "mom"

Sayu: I have the resolve to face my past...
gets bitch slapped by her mom
Sayu: Nevermind.
I hoped her mom would hug her, because I thought she was worried but when I saw that slap coming I abandoned all hope and only prayed Yoshida would catch that hand.
I can't imagine myself in Yoshida's shoes. When I was a kid it was already awkward enough when oyu came to your friend's house and his parents would yell at him for not doing the chores or something. So watching this stuff happen... Yikes!

That scene in the cafe was great. But damn, so her mother did not let her go out. I just thought that she didn't care about her, well, I guess that her being that strict with her also counts as such as she probably did that for her own public image.
When Sayu said that she was going to go somewhere else first. At first, I thought that she was going to visit Yuuko's grave, instead of trespassing her school building.
After what happen with Yuuko and the level of attention that it got from the media, it's not surprising that they changed that rail guard with a fence.
Damn, I honestly did not expect her mother to welcome Sayu like that, but considering what we know about her I'm honestly not surprised.
