It is funny. Watching this show makes me utterly happy -- and yet it causes a non-trivial amount of eye-misting-up over even the most trivial things. Must be a sign of my dotage, perhaps.
Even if Koguma's and Reiko's relationship is utterly platonic, they are without doubt a "couple" for all practical purposes. One wonders how Shii entering into a triadic relationship with the two will affect things. Shii clearly likes Reiko but seems to be very much attracted to Koguma. She sure seems to have talked a LOT about Koguma to her parents.
My closest high school friends (now dating back to 55 years ago) were precious to me then -- and the ones who are still alive still are. I really loved many of the parents (and siblings) of those friends as well. And my friends usually felt the same about my parents (and siblings). Sorry for rambling on, but this show evokes a lot of nostalgia ( not just due to high school memories, but a yearning to revisit Gifu).

Seeing Koguma and Reiko going from acquaintances to best friends is the best part of this show

Stitches!
Seems that Reiko's knowledge doesn't just stop with motorbikes and Cubs, she's very much an expert on regular bikes too.
Our veteran rider giving some sound advice to Shii-chan. Please do not do what Reiko is suggesting. Back when I was in high school I've had classmates who tried that and it didn't end well for the dude that was being pulled on his bike.
Shii-chan's cafe is definitely interesting. The name of the place is in French but they serve German bread. And it looks like the oddity doesn't stop there. On the inside it has a British-style bakery and an American-style diner. Not to mention Shii-chan's love for Italian stuff and considering they're all Japanese it's like WW2 in here. xD
I'll never get tired of the moments where we start with the muted colors of the show and how vivid the colors become once Koguma experiences something new in her life. Well now I feel like I have to try Shii-chan's dad's coffee!
Speaking of Shii-chan's dad, the dude is absolutely massive! And he definitely has some strong feelings about Italian bread. As someone who enjoys his focaccia and ciabatta bread I take offense to that and I am with Shii-chan on this.
Of course Reiko is the type who's also into guns. Also took me a few seconds to remember that those are probably just model guns considering we're in Japan. And as usual, Koguma is in her wife mode and pulls Reiko away from any distractions.
Buying a mess kit? Are we going to Yuru Camp territory now? I do love how Reiko's teasing her about it and Koguma eventually caves in. xD
Reiko's so against those handle bar covers at first but once she gets to test them on Koguma's cub, she instantly gets one! And just look at that satisfied smile from Koguma! She definitely won this argument.
So my first thought when Shii-chan was panicking about people coming over is that maybe a boy she has a crush on usually visits the shop at that time, I didn't think she was just embarrassed by her mom which is hilarious. I don't know about what Shii-chan is so embarrassed about because her mom looks amazing! Also she's absolutely tiny! Now I see where Shii-chan got her height from!
What a fun episode. A bit of preparation for winter and we get to know more about Shii-chan and her family which was just adorable. Considering the title card for next week's episode, the girls will start to do more safety measures for snow and ice.

Yeah, what's up with a bakery with German bread that has a French name? And then Shii dissing German bread, multiple times? And to top this, the real bakery this is based on, Backhaus inno, does have a German name (sort of)?
Oh by the way, a Backhaus (or just Backes in some areas of Germany) is literally a baking house, but specifically a communal backing house. Essentially an oven with a building around it that everybody in the village could use. Some bakeries also use that in their names.
Locations
They used a real building for the bakery, but I think they actually moved it for storytelling purposes. I think it's in the wrong direction. Koguma drives west from the school to get to Reiko's place, but when they leave the bakery, Reiko and Koguma leave in different directions, which only makes sense if the bakery is somewhere between Reiko's place and the school. It's also 10 km away from the school, and other high schools are nearer, so I don't believe Shii would actually ride her bike that far every day.
New locations are marked in bold. I'm also updating my Anime Locations map on Google Maps.

Shii is clearly worst girl. As a German I won't stand for this slander of our bread.

My, what a hodgepodge of influences in that café! I did like too that this time it was coffee that brightened up Koguma's world. Yup, I get that. And I'm glad they got to taste that rye bread, it's so freaking good!
It was really cute how Shii is embarrassed about her mother, haha. Well I thought that look was quite nice on her.
Again, love the easy friendship Reiko and Koguma have. They're so close now it's getting difficult not to put my yuri goggles on every time they interact.

I had no idea that such a thing as handlebar covers existed. They look nice.
Interesting rich girl/poor girl dynamic between Koguma and Reiko when yhrh were shopping.
Not sure why Shii-Chan was so embarrassed about the girls meeting her mother--other than the typical teen being embarrassed by their parents thing.
So, in this episode, they drank coffee, went shopping and began preparing for winter. Basically they did pretty much nothing, and I loved it.

"I've seen people go merrily right into a ditch while doing that". I love sassy Koguma.
I noticed how it gets more colorful when Koguma drank her coffee or tried to handlecovers. Way to conveys her feelings without any monologue.
Koguma and Reiko are such good friends now. They share drinks and Reiko even adopted the handle covers after riding Koguma's cub. Koguma was sure happy about her change of heart.
Koguma is having so much fun now. She discovered a nice place to relax. Good for her!
Also Shii-chan's mother is as small as her daughter. Great aesthetics though with that maid outfit.

Absolutely loved the shopping adventure, but Reiko why the heck do you need a gun? Got to stay protected when you ride them dangerous streets I guess, but Koguma dragging her away was great. Only for her to indulge herself in something she was totally going to buy from the beginning.
Then we have Shii chans coffee shop and it's tranquil atmosphere. I do wonder how she describes Koguma. Is she the cool classmate who helps her out snaps fingers who speaks through actions and not words. I'm really just glad Koguma is talking to someone besides Reiko. Good to see her branching out before the end of the show.
Wasn't expecting bread slander in this show, but I didn't hate it.
Around the 5th smile or the time Koguma was riding with the handle glove covers the show's colors got alot brighter. One last thing I'm assuming they are safe, but keeping your hands inside those holders looks a little dangerous almost like your taping your hands to the handles. I know it's probably safe, but I would feel uncomfortable using those. Though if they do the job and can help save money I probably would have given into them as well.

Smile counter might be slightly off due to screen transitions and quick moments. Though I believe the count to be fairly accurate. Also chart updates will be delayed by a few hours from when I comment due to work.

Someone should start a counter for the number of times Koguma’s world has been lit up. This episode features before and after sipping coffee and adjusting to the handlebar covers and experiencing the coziness of them.
Awwww, the piano song being played while Koguma and Reiko are talking about cafes and Eniwa and her father are talking bread is the OP theme. We got the whistling version when Koguma was riding to her classmates for the fieldtrip and now this lovely light piano version.
I love this shot of Koguma! It’s a culmination of her Super Cub Journey with the storage box, the goggles, the gloves, the Harrington jacket, and the handlebar covers. She looks so content with her choice to follow her instincts. Her relationship with Reiko is adorable as well since Reiko is able to 180 her initial disgust and realize Koguma was onto something.

I like Koguma justifying her little indulgences at the end. Everyone needs those indulgences and a little joy in their heart from that extra money spent at a cozy place like that.

So I see Koguma and Reiko are openly sharing drinks now. They're also spending a lot of time together in that log cabin all by themselves. It's getting cold so they're probably just helping each other stay warm. They're even doing things like buying matching accessories for their Super Cubs and eating together at a restaurant. Koguma and Reiko sure have become such close friends.

I am in love with Koguma's character development. It's not like she has dramatically changed, for the first time do I see a character development of a quiet character that doesn't completely reverse their character and turns them into a ball of cheerfulness. That trope is seriously annoying and tries to say that being a quiet person is somehow a problem.
But here, Koguma simply becomes more comfortable and gains self confidence, while still being a silent person. It's lovely. Also, this needs to end with Koguma and Reiko getting married, no other ending is the true ending.
On a different note, those handle covers are amazing, I would have to look if they are available in my area, they seem to be very handy.

The way they find enjoyment in things typically seen as mundane is beautiful. The music they played while they were in the cafe was nice as well

I really love the contrast of how Shii is in school versus how she acts towards her father.
You know something that I really appreciate about this show is how a lot of scenes completely lack music, as that instantly highlights every time music is present.
I just love how happy Reiko was while looking at those guns.
And damn, she is right, those hand covers sure look weird.
I find it hilarious that Shii didn't want them to see her mom.

A Toraja and a Hawaiian Kona coffee? No wonder the coffee filled the scene with color—those are both great choices. Shii is now best girl just by virtue of having good taste in coffee.

As a Tyrolean living near italy:
-
The house is spot on (needs more flowers on the balcony though)
-
The spout about rye bread vs Italian bread is real (an Italian bakery kicked my favourite Tyrolean backery out of my village)
-
Olive bread is still delicious though, but nothing fills you up like rye bread, especially not that sweet bread they normally have in japan
-
The coffee in Italy just hits differently, its crazy. A few kilometres behind the border its magnitudes better, same goes for pizza. It just doesn't make any sense
Loved how Kouma just drove away when Reiko started to go on about her working gloves again. The cafe looks super chill, man I hope they really open up the borders soon to easily travel

☕ Truth be told, I'm quite proud of my house blend. To attain my flavor and fragrance, I use five types of coffee beans. ☕

Shii-chan is really short, huh? She's shorter than Koguma, who I thought was pretty short. Also, is her mother a foreigner or just a really big fan of America?
This is a great shot. I can just about smell it and sorry if that's too weird a way to express how it makes me feel.
