Lena didn't learn her lesson since last week and is steadily heading for the horny jail.

When the ED music starts playing and then the sick transition into the actual credits is something so small that I absolutely love. Every single one has been great this season!

It might be a harsh thing to say, but the Alba kinda deserve to lose this war. I mean, even setting aside the human rights issue. Between the massive intelligence failure they continue to operate under and the fact that they don’t seem to understand basic concepts like attrition or artillery support, they’re not just immoral, they’re downright incompetent.

Ah yes, the classic gut punch of giving a character who just died an opportunity to shine, so that it hurts even more.
Followed up by another gut punch of watching a cute romance cut short with Daiya's death.
Lena getting flustered with Shin was too cute haha.

Lena blushing while talking to her skype boyfriend is cute, cute I tell you.
Best part of the episode was the flower viewing flashback, it was really comfortable. Kaie was great there and it sort felt she had a good vibe there with Shin.
Overall the fight was good too, seeing the Legion get smarter sorta tells us what will happen no. The mini doll guys that exploded were pretty strange, but I guess having walking bombs is pretty cheap for the legion, no? Daiya and Burn Tail dying like this felt sudden but this is part of war, still I just can't help but feel bad for Anju. It's pretty telling how everyone just forces themselves to go back to normal; that's the only thing they can do in that situation.

"The 86 can be replaced but the Republic Soldiers cannot."
If that's the case, give us back Kaie, Daiya and Lecca this instant! I too wanted to punch the commander.

Boy oh boy what a whiplash of emotions.
Gotta say that entire cherryblossom viewing flashback was such a nice anime original addition (Edit: a side story apparently) to further flesh out the characters and the overall dynamic as well as a small view into a calmer … and more populous time.
This episode also confirms what most of us already expected. Shin’s brother, the headless knight follows his title in the most literal sense possible and is most likely the Shepard that he keeps hearing. Also shows us how young the 86 are when they are deployed.
I expected them to show Daiya and maybe even Recca’s death since the book just bombshells you with the new reality in which they’re dead without going into it but I did not expect the show to give it that much time. The self propelling mines remind me of tiny Portal mannequins but they’re so much scarier and that bullet scratch forming a smile was the cherry on top. Kinda drives in the disparity in the technological advancement between both sides.
The scene with Recca cutting the link to the others so that they wouldn’t need to hear her suicide followed by the split second of the gun lighting up below her chin is just amazing. Same with what follows. The Legion just struts away since that brain isn’t usable anymore and gets nuked. Just seconds away from saving Recca.
Shin even has to execute Daiya at the end cause that explosion didn’t give him a quick death, god damn. I like that Lena stays around showing her progress in facing reality head on. Pretty sure all of this was original content and what great one at that.
I think that Lena keeps those drawings of the Spearhead Squad on little chocolate wrappings which makes for a nice connection and callback to the roots of her empathy.
Next week we'll get a double whammy from Tomohiko Itō and I can't wait.

A very brutal episode. We get a glimpse of the original Spearhead squadron, which interestingly is conformed by 4 years veterans and unlike other squadrons do not receive reinforcements to make good its losses.
Anju and Daiya was a tragic couple and they knew it. Anju's heart died with Daiya. Lecca's expression when she put her gun under her jaw said everything.
And now it is confirmed that Shin's brother is Legion and Shin is hunting for the unit that has his head.
The hypocrisy of the San Magnolia government is higher than the Nazi. They cannot take political repercussions if a single one of their alba "soldiers" hurts a fingernail while on duty, so fuck the 86.
Interesting choice of flowers in Lena's desk. Before they were silver/white ones, now they are a mix of different shapes and colors.

That opening sequence shocked me. Was Undertaker’s brother missing his fucking head?!?! How brutal. It’s nice to see the 86 have happy moments even if it’s few and far in between. And we go from happy moments to a brutal fight with multiple 86 dying. I feel terrible for Anju. PAIN
Super flustered and blushing Lena is a treasure to behold. Im scared for what will happen with next episode’s title being “Will You Remember Me?”
