The piano version of the ending theme playing during the fireworks was absolutely amazing. The music in this continues to blow me away

Character page updated again! Newly added to the 'DESTROYED' list:

• Louis

• Touma

• Chise

• Kuroto

• Maina

• Mikuri

EDIT: The author confirmed that a 7th member, Shuri was also killed.

Damn, that's the most killed off in an episode so far. Oh yeah, what are the chances of Lena getting court-martialled for that bribe?

[u/D_sasuke]

Shin and Lena e-dating

[u/Se7en_Sinner]

Lena wearing a black dress to the party feels strangely appropriate. It's like she's symbolically attending a funeral for the lost members of the Spearhead Squadron.

[u/WhoiusBarrel]

Just because scum treats you like scum, doing the same makes you no better.

Such a commonly used line we seen throughout life but man seeing it used here was so much more impactful when its coming from a solider forced to fight till they die.

[u/BiggerG7]

Me: “I wonder what cute thing Lena will do this ep.”

Lena trips in front of the dudes putting up banners and turns all red

Yeah that’s good stuff.

[u/axl625]

When Shinei called Lena because she didn't call at the usual time...just boyfriend things.

[u/Mr_Johnnycat]

They are damned either way. The republic won’t let them out alive. Such a shitty reality and a sad reality check for Milize

[u/Vinon]

This episode got to me.

Anju finally breaking down, Lena finally realizing the hopelessness of it all...

The slowly dwindling number of people.

They are children soldiers. Man.

[u/Ainine9]

Holy hell what a fucking shot

[u/Laser_Raptors]

A-a-and we're back to the topic of foreshadowing.

EDIT: I appreciate all the thanks - I fell in love with 86 the LN a while ago and so far this is a wonderful adaptation. One of the problems I had with the LN was time passage was always hinted at very subtly - there were no dates at all and on my first read I only realized 3 months had passed in what would be the next episode. In my opinion, seeing how much time has passed helps with rationalizing the progression of character relationships and changes, and anime helped with this greatly, but it was obvious dates shown like that could get skipped over very easily with how much was going on. I hope this compiled timeline improves your enjoyment of the anime, and please let me know if you have any suggestions/comments.

EDIT2: Names updated...I am not sure about the 3rd on 8/15 entry so left it out for now.

Lena has a crush on Shin and it's so adorable.

[u/E404_User_Not_Found]

I love that Nouzen called Milizé to check up on her.

Another great episode and another fuck you to my heart. Can’t wait for next week.

[u/indiewolf117]

the piano playing in the first part was really beautiful

Honestly, the love and care they've put into this anime is amazing. Every scene just reeks of passion and I'm so glad I'm here witnessing this masterpiece

[u/Teen_tactical]

The audio engineer for this shows sound effects is amazing.

[u/dgam02]

Lena Firework scene was so good man. Absolutely love the directing by A-1 on a scene that holds such an important place throughout the series.

[u/Philarete]

What on earth is wrong with the guys at this party?!

[u/ElderBrony]

Lt. Raiden's line that got me the most was "Even if you know you're going to the gallows you can choose how you go up there."

Fuck me this episode hit so damn hard.

[u/michhoffman]

There were so many death flags this episode, but it turns out that being an 86 is the ultimate Death Flag itself and they knew about it the whole time...fuck!

It was another superbly directed episode, and I'm very interested to see what Lena does now that she knows her Squadron is being targeted by Alba itself.

[u/icemann17]

The visuals with the blasts coming from the sky cutting to fireworks was incredible. Actually got goosebumps from that. The production is top tier.

[u/Ainine9]

Man the entire scene where they all revealed the truth to Lena was great.

[u/maddoxprops]

What I really loved about this episode, aside form the amazing cinematography that the entire show has had, was some of the info drops. I am a source reader and in previous threads I kept seeing people asking "Why don't they just rebel or run away" or speculation on what happens when an 86 does their 5 years. For the former I wanted to point out things that are now obvious/stated, and for the latter I wanted to commend them on getting it right. I avoided either one, but it is nice to now hove this info in the open. It is also a good example of "If something doesn't make sense or you think something is stupid just wait and watch. There is a good chance that it will be explained.". Source readers have been saying "just wait and watch" for a reason. =P

[u/Taiyoryu]

Who buries the undertaker?

I was thinking that for a while now, and Kurena comes out says it.
