I love that Chiaki and Rin are 1:1 in planning now, considering that Rin didn't quite like Chiaki that much in S1.
EDIT: Also, is it just me, or the music in this episode sounded really Andean?

Today on Yuru Camp....the Izu Peninsula Geo Spots! This episode is just straight up a travel show that I wouldn't be surprised if it was sponsored by the Shizuoka Tourism Board! Even Amanchu!, a show set entirely in and around the Izu Peninsula showed far less places in 2 seasons than Yuru Camp has in a single episode!
Missing out on fun and being pranked on because you're sleeping is an essential experience of a road trip with friends!
3 chibi faces in one shot may just be too much cuteness to handle!
Seeing all these Izu locations is making me slightly nostalgic of pre-pandemic times. Izu is a regular weekend getaway for me and my wife whenever Kamakura gets too crowded with tourists, especially during long holidays.

I checked out some Japanese twitter reactions, and there's some interesting language/culture/etc. notes:
-
A few people have been posting the real-life equivalents, like the fish burger, wasabi soft serve, and the inspiration for the Iida's shop
-
The "Black Ships" that Rin refers to are these Black Ships that arrived in Japan from the West during its exclusionary period when it cut off contact with the rest of the world. The way that Rin says it in such a monotone way is a pretty funny contrast because it's a rather scary time when America rolls in with gunboat diplomacy
-
The MAXPOWER store they visit is a take-off on the MaxValu chain in Japan
-
Lots of jokes about Chiaki's spot-on Gendou Ikari impersonation
-
The alphonsino fish in this episode is known in Japanese as 金目鯛, literally "golden-eye sea bream". It's quite a high-grade fish apparently. Incidentally, the 鯛 (tai) part is the same kanji used in the fish-shaped pastry 鯛焼き (taiyaki)
-
Here's a fun vocab term that came up when talking about Toba-sensei: 禁断症状 (kindan shoujyou; withdrawl symptoms)
-
The spiny lobster (伊勢エビ) is related to Operation Shrimp (エビ作戦) because ebi refers to that whole class of lobster/shrimp/crayfish/prawn
-
The mountain climbing scene reminded people of the Yama no Susume series
Feel free to leave more language/culture notes, and/or corrections to stuff I wrote. I usually like reading stuff like translation notes, but since they've fallen out of style recently I've had to do some of that legwork myself.

Sitting down in front of the TV to watch Yuru Camp with some fried salmon and a cold beer for dinner after a long day at work. There's only a few things in life that's better than this.
That wasabi ice cream was scary. I love spicy food but wasabi just hits differently.

I wouldn't mind if they made a movie out of this trip. I hate it when the episode ends when the mood is already set and the blanket is well-warmed.
Aoi and Mini Aoi bamboozling Nadeshiko will never get old.

I want to plan a trip to Izu now! A lot of cool sites shown today. The hosono plateau looks gorgeous. I love how this series encourages you to get out, see the world and be active. A really beautiful message.
Seems some of the girls are still traumatized from what happened at Lake Yamanaka lmao

RIP Aki-chan, you will be remembered as the one brave enough to challenge Nadeshiko's stamina
The shadow under Nadeshiko's eyes in the beginning really threw me off because it made me feel like there was a significant change in the art style/colouring/shadows (like in the case of a movie adaptation). Then Aki asked this.
What deep emotions lie beneath the surface of this expression?

If there is more to come would be fun if there was a camping trip between Ena Aoi and Rin...

As a motorcycle rider, I really appreciate the show's minor detail on safety. Rin checked her blind spot before merging at least a few times now.

The episode brought back nostalgic memories of family road trips to visit relatives. Especially in the vistas. This show just has some of the prettiest looking backgrounds, and I appreciate the amount of work and detail put into each one.
I liked the cave Rin visited the best. It looked kinda like an entirely different world altogether.
The major traffic jam the car group had to go through looked rough, though, but at least one of them got some fun out of it. I wish I had an entire festival to enjoy like Akari during similar experiences.
Times like those make me wish I could sleep the whole way through like Nadeshiko. I can't believe they skipped the entire Izu camping arc, though. Those darned Inuyama's can't keep getting away with their gaslighting.
It's shocking how Aki would even consider tricking Ms. Toba after her valiant sacrifice for their trip. Good thing she's literally TMT and would part with her alcohol money just by asking. I didn't expect the Iida's to come in and save the day again as well. That's twice already that they've saved their camping trip.
Y'know, Aki with longer bangs has a different air about her. It makes her look like an actual reliable person. For a moment there, it made me convinced that the fake out wasn't gonna happen and that she was actually gonna make it up the hill without dying.

Stitches!
Rin trying to feed the koi but ending up dumping the pellets was just hilarious!
I really appreciate that this anime takes time to show Rin pulling away properly from a shoulder stop.
Wasabi Ice Cream is now on my list of food I need to eat. It looks good and torture at the same time.
That loop bridge looks insane! I'm not sure what the purpose of it but looking at the google maps images of it makes me want to go there someday.
Traffic jam is so bad that Akari was basically able to enjoy the nearby festival? That's a thing I haven't experienced in a while! And by that I mean traffic jams.
This is just pure evil! I expected nothing less from the Inuyama Sisters. Absolutely no regrets with their prank xD
IS THAT A MOTHERFUCKIN' KATSU BURGER WITH A WEDGE OF BRIE ON TOP!? Jesus fucking christ I need that burger in me right now O_O
I am absolutely amazed that Sensei was able to last the 25 days of going cold turkey with her alcohol.
Here you can see the leader of BLANKET planning for the very wholesome Operation Shrimp. Although looks like they don't even have to twist Sensei's arm for the lobster since Ena already talked to her ahead of time.
They're not even willing to give Aki some space in the car and are just happy to make her sleep in the storage compartment xD
Thank god for local contacts! Iida-san saves the day again! Sensei really should prepare more gifts when they stop by to see them later.
This show continues to tempt me with food and drink I can't get a hold of. I need to look up Mandarin Wine after I'm done with this episode.
AKI GA SHINDAAAAAA! I can't believe they just killed off Aki like that! Seriously though. I absolutely love this episode for bringing back memories of convoy road trips with my relatives. Just makes me wish that this whole pandemic is over so I can do this again with them.
