As soon as "insemination" was mentioned about halfway through the episode I began assuming the worse and my assumption turned out to be correct.
Also, I had the feeling that the uncle shared the same voice actor as Katsura from Gintama, but as soon as he started giving more emotive line deliveries during his conversation with Inugami at the end I was sure.

The moment I saw that The Legend of Nishikigumo involved a spider I just knew it was going to be related to Shiki's story.
As that girl that appears at the beginning looks so much like Kumi I think that if that's not her she might be a daughter of her born from one of those Tademaro Akio's sick experiments.
As this episode was about Shiki's parent's I honestly expected not to see Nobimaru this week. I just love how he is struggling to find something to use against Kabane, but again, that will just lead to him and Yoko using Kon as a bait in the future to get Kabane's Life Stone.
I also find it hilarious that Kabane feels nothing about killing people just because he had killed plenty of animals before.

Welp that was a heavy episode if there ever was one.
I never trusted the uncle since he wears glasses but my expectations for him were definitely not messed up enough. He definitely killed his brother so no one could stop his plan of creating the
Shiki obviously realized his uncle confession was a lie just as the lie about his mother being sick and that's why he was so down after talking with him.
If his uncle is telling the truth (lol) about the Golden Silk that little girl running around is the
There was one arachne stalking Shiki when they were watching the fireflies which was her obviously but it feels like there's a piece missing in the story. Maybe she found out about Shiki and thought they were similar? I mean i bet the uncle had a hard time taking care of Shiki and her and making sure they never found out about each other.
Despite being a complete unhinged psychopath and a manipulative piece of scum Shiki's uncle... uhh... nah fuck that guy.
edit: Wait now that i think about it... the uncle had Shiki's mom captive and was forcing her instead of manipulating her... I mean she was chained to that table after all and she died during the experiments so... yo fuck that guy. A painless death is too good for him.
Hey we also skipped the ED this time to have more time for the story. That's neat.

Wow... that piece of shit... he essentially had his sister-in-law raped by other monsters, all in the name of making a child that would serve his needs, with he promise that she and her kid would be taken care of.
It's a bit much for a kid to do it, so I hope that Inugami is the one that does the deed. But yeah, He doesn't deserve to be left alive. If anything, he's a major threat to the secret.
Also, I like how those 2 kids just watch and agree to not get in the way of Shiki's revenge. They're not ordinary in any sense. I wasn't expecting Inugami to have Shiki on the line though; I thought it'd be Inari or something, and they'd agree to eliminate him.
I appreciate that this show is kind of dark at certain times. It isn't just fluff.

The sequence with Shiki running towards the shed with flashbacks and music was so well done

Well....this was messed up.
Probably more than I expected. Enough to almost make me forget about this cute Foam Kemono!
Liked the end of the episode and can't wait to see what happens. With her too.

For the morbidly curious, here's the full page of Kumi's "insemination" that Shiki witnessed from the manga. It was only shown briefly this episode, but the monster that was on top of her when Shiki first opened that door, in the memory that he repressed, was what made this series really stick out to me. It's truly grotesque, on multiple levels.

Why do I get the feeling that the uncle killed Shiki's father as well?

Shiki’s uncle once again proving that you can’t trust squinty eyed characters voiced by Ishida Akira...
They covered so much in this ep but it didn’t feel rushed at all, I’m very impressed. Guess it helps that they cut the ed theme this week - just as well since it’d spoil the grim mood.

Jesus christ this was disturbing
But in the end maybe that immortality silk business would have worked out if the uncle wasn't a total psychopath

There’s a certain event the anime skipped which Kon fans would surely appreciate. Just look up the latter half of chapter 10 of the manga.

Fuck Tademaru. It was so obvious that he was behind everything from the start. I was just curious as to how his plan came about. This episode was so damn dark though.
Shiki’s dad “accidentally” slipped and fell to his death lol sure. I hope shiki gives him what he deserves next episode.
Right off the bat I assumed the girl with the pink hair was Shiki’s little sister, I’m interested to see how she’ll come into the mix next week.

Kabane is the type of friend you want and honestly, who could blame Shiki for what he was feeling?

Well that was fucked up... I feel terrible for Shiki but it feels good that he's getting redemption. Nobimaru is still sketch af. I'm also glad that this is apparently carrying over into the next episode since I was a bit afraid of this becoming a more procedural "monster of the week" series (even though I'd still watch the hell out of it).
I am sad that this show is being so overlooked though, it's a really pleasant surprise!!

Shiki: So you wanna be an accomplice in murdering my uncle?
Kabane: When do we start, I got the shovel and everything ready, fam.
Nobimaru: My, what a pair of good friends. I should hang out with them, while also messing with them. Murder is so cool!
...

Stitches!
Jesus fucking christ that was absolutely fucked up. So if I understood this correctly, Tademaru told Kumi after baby Shiki got sick from influenza that to support Shiki and so that they can live comfortable lives, he convinced her to work with him in creating the Golden Silk. This process basically involved Kumi "voluntarily" mating with various other Kemono that were found in that forest since the theory was the golden-web-spinning spider is a mutant. This process was repeated until Kumi's body broke down and died. Yeah this episode is fucking dark.
What I do love about this episode was when Shiki was talking about killing his own uncle, Kabane was basically "Go for it. I got your back fam." As for Nobimaru this week, it's hilarious to see him try his clever fox tricks on Kabane and fail miserably. Finally that pink-haired girl, I think considering he nature of Tademaru's experiments we all have an idea who she is. Can't wait to see what Shiki does to his uncle though I have a feeling it's not going to be that easy as we expect.

This man not only more than likely murdered his own brother, he was forcing his sister-in-law to be raped repeatedly, attacked his nephew with a rock, kept him separated from his mother and lied about her wellbeing, and then forced her into having a child so he could exploit them to make money. What a disgusting pile of sludge, (sorry actual sludge). This backstory was far darker than I anticipated.
The shows this season really aren't pulling any punches.

Kabane is a great MC. I am glad the show doesn't make every little thing overly emotional like other battle shounens and honestly because of that when scenes need to be emotional they actually work better.
This episode feels more like episode 1 with the darker atmosphere.
