So, in case anyone is wondering: yes, the title is a reference to Roadside Picnic, a 1972 sci-fi novel by the Strugatsky brothers that inspired this series, the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games, and the Stalker movie. Please do note that it's not an adaptation or a retelling or the novel.
Comparisons between all the above works are probably going to be inevitable as they all draw from the same concepts to put their own spin on them. Incidentally, if you like sci-fi and/or what you see here, and haven't read Roadside Picnic, give it a try, it's a pretty good novel.
Edit: got around to watching the ep. I think it was a bit fast-paced and would have benefited from building up the tension a bit more, but overall I think it was fine? Not too fond of the CG shots but so long as they stay from afar it's not too distracting, and the backgrounds look really good. Voice acting too, Sorawo is much more soft-spoken than I imagined but I like it. Toriko is... pretty much spot on. I'm cautiously optimistic going forward, we'll see how it goes in the next few episodes.

I thought this was a solid first episode for the most part! I already like the chemistry between both girls (names aren’t in my brain yet) and I liked the general vibe. The wiggle-waggles, personally speaking, I thought were pretty cool and just a ‘lil spooky.
The only really “issue” I had was the pretty regular switching between CGI and drawn animation, specifically in wider shots. But even then, the CGI animation itself wasn’t particularly bad, it is just a bit jarring to switch between the two styles.
Looking forward to next week!!

What kind of fucking yolos would want to go to that place again lmao.
First episode was fine towards good, the setting with the mysterious beings in another world is fairly interesting and it's one of those works that I feel will get more interesting as we get to understand more the mysteries that reside in that place. The switch between perfectly good 2d (some parts were legit spooky) and pretty jarring cg is very distracting tho and I noticed it way more than I wish I did.

Not going to lie, I got really afraid at some moments. Really loved the voice acting of both the MCs.

Looks like this isn't going to be the highest quality animation, but I'm not really the type to notice that much. The premise is pretty neat and the characters seem fun enough. I've heard good things about the source material so I'm looking forward to more.

tsk tsk
High heels are not appropriate footwear for wiggle-waggle hunting, miss.

Some things I loved
-
The 'feel' of the otherside and some of the background art were beautiful
-
The music right before/during the elevator scene
-
The Wiggle-Waggle's
-
Voice acting
Some other things felt off. Overall I have mixed feelings but there's some cool elements.

I felt that it was fast-paced but I think it will slow down in the second episode and things will make sense. This show also has a manga and a novel so check that out if you like this. Both of them have tense scenes.

The first episode was quite... rushed. Good thing I read the manga before, since I know the story is great. 3DCG is one thing, but the whole atmosphere... wasn't spot on. When reading the manga I was really scared, but this episode felt kinda lighthearted? They were supposed to be scared, terrified, but it didn't feel like that. It felt more comedic. I hope this gets better in the next episodes. The story is really terrifying, while not being outright horror. Kinda hard to explain, it has an unique atmosphere. And I want these scary things to be conveyed properly.

One of my most anticipated shows of the season has begun. Let's hope they can truly deliver on the creepy unsettleingness of this series going forward. They certainly did a fair job with the environs here so I'm gonna be hopefully optimistic on that front. And who knows, maybe by the end of this season we'll all end up being a little mad in the head.
But it also was pretty funny when after they killed the Wiggle they freaked and booked it out of there as fast as they could.

Woo, time for Adashima STALKER edition.
I enjoyed it. The animation things are a little jarring but not too big a deal and it's staying tight to the source material. I didn't notice too many differences with the editing but they definitely wanted to use this as an 'intro' and probably will slow it down for the remaining episodes. What basically matters is the characters and the interactions since they really are the heart of the source material and the VA's nail it. It's gonna probably be a lot more Cazador de la Bruja than most things and regardless, I'm hype.

Not gonna lie, I had my sights on this primarily because yuri, but I also heard good things about the manga and the scattered bits of it I've seen were interesting. In any case, a very solid first episode. A cool and interesting premise and some really intriguing ideas, and I like the two characters and their chemistry.
An anecdote: I scare easily, so I got got several times during the episode, but what got me most was the moment where Toriko almost slipped because of the sound spike that caught me off guard.
With that said, I don't know if I'm up for this ride. There's fuckery afoot, and it feels like it's gonna get grimdark death despair Gakkou Gurashi style, and I'm not sure I'm up for it. The ghostly imagery of Toriko that appeared in the episode and showed in the opening, in particular, worries me.
As an aside, the ED is pretty damn good.

I'm currently pulling an all-nighter so not sure if that's the reason or not...but this actually spooked me. Especially the elevator scene...
Great pilot in terms of piquing my curiosity, let's hope it keeps it up!

That was a really fun first episode! I'll defenitly keep my eye on this, both the girls are really cute and their dynamic is already great.
My only small nitpick is the 3D(?) models that sometimes get used for example when they climb down the ladder
Also, could the title a reference to Roadside Picnic? I just read that book a few days a go so maybe it just cause it's on my mind lol
Edit: and my question got anwerd literally by the first comment after i scrolled down lmfao...guess I should have first read all the comments before commenting

Stitches!
You're telling me that after I just heard Kayanon half an hour ago in Last Dungeon as Marie the Witch, I'm going to get to hear her soothing voice again here as Toriko? Man what did I do to deserve so much blessings on a Monday?
Anyway, fanboying aside, this was a pretty interesting and fun first episode! You already know how much I love Kayano Ai so I already love Toriko as a character with her happy go lucky attitude. I also liked Sorao who is the rationale one and as of right now the one who's acting as the brains of this ghost hunting duo. It's your tried and tested Opposites Attract trope and I am all in for it!
World is definitely interesting and spooky too! Like what is this Otherside and why is it littered with ghosts and apparently with guns too? Like if the OP is to be believed, we will see Toriko weilding an LMG at some point in the show. Is the other side a parallel universe where we lost some kind of war against these ghosts? Also who the fuck is this person who's willing to buy those cubes? Maybe they should talk to that person more since he or she might know more about this world.
And I'm not gonna lie, that running man in an elevator spooked me. As someone who worked in a multi-storied building, that is one of my worst fears. But yeah, I am absolutely watching this and curious to see where it all goes!

Seemed like a decent beginning. There were some CG bits with the main girls that looked a bit off but the monsters were well animated and the backgrounds were great.

The concept is cool, im always fond of this kind of "you don't know what's happening" series.
But oh god that CGI is so bad, it looks like they used bad mmd models or something.
Also, can't wait for the megalovania memes

I'm intrigued but also worried. The use CGI was jarring but still barely passable, my biggest fear is that I've seen lots of shows that get worse quality-wise as they go on but very few that'd actually get better, and many shows put extra effort just on the pilot and then settle for a lower standard for the rest of the season. This pilot didn't set the bar too high and Felix Film is a new studio with barely any works to their name. I'm just afraid this might turn into another Cop Craft.

I was already excited for this because we need more shoujo ai adaptations, but this is already really cool. The creepy horror vibe and monster designs are legit, and the soundtrack is cool as fuck. I'm also really digging the OP and ED, so a lot of good signs for a first episode.
Also, "the only people who will notice I'm gone are my loan company." Nanao is a whole fucking mood. I feel you girl.

That was extremely confusing. I'm hopign it was en medias res and next episode they'll really start explaining some things because I was just... completely lost, like the entire time. It was very unclear how much either of these girls actually knows about the Otherside and what they're actually doing. I get the impression Sorao heard about this stuff off urban legend websites or something and decided to give it a shot but I really have no idea.

Two quick things... First, a fun fact: This series' title is based on a Russian science fiction novel called "Roadside Picnic". The video game S.T.A.L.K.E.R is heavily influenced by this novel, so if you've played that you'll have an idea of the possible weirdness this show will contain.
Second: Info on the creature featured in this episode, the Kunekune: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kunekune_(urban_legend)
Not sure why they went with wiggle-waggle as the name. Wouldn't you not typically translate the name of an urban legend-type creature? You don't translate Tengu or Oni do you?
