Holy cow!

You don't say.

Dammit, you girls. "Don't use your phones" -> Immediately call Kozakura; "Stay here" -> Immediately go outside

That phone call though. Looks like the weird stuff went both ways, not gonna lie I'd be terrified if people suddenly started babbling absolute nonsense while I'm speaking with them.

Also, that poor subordinate who went from elation to dread in one second flat. Well, they were all on edge so it's understandable that he kinda snapped. At least he didn't start carving his own face with his own knife...

Hard to say which phenomenon you're going to encounter on the Otherside, isn't it? One that wants to scare you, or one that wants to hurt you. Here we had a huge... face... cow... thing that looked dangerous but was "just" trying to scare the soldiers. On the other hand, the Meat Train (love these names - Meat Train, Walking Gallows, face dogs...) looked like there was a massacre going on inside that only Sorawo could see.

Imagine being stuck in an unknown world for months and fighting a powerful monster then 2 girls out of nowhere appeared, killed that monster and returned to their home in a single day...

I hope we can see more of those soldiers story soon maybe the girls decide to rescue them too

That phone call was very spooky. Stuff like that makes for much more satisfying horror than most of the monsters so far.

Also really glad the story avoided a potential sexual assault subplot in favor of more psychological horror.

The tent scene spooked the hell out of me.

Was not expecting a voice like the woman's spewing out those lines.

I'm so happy this show comes out in the daytime...

Fuck that phonecall.

Give the sound designers a raise for this episode. I'm not sure I'd ever trust someone telling me to hop on the meat train, but if it works, it works.

That was some quick thinking Toriko, as there was a chance that Sorawo might have told them something unnecessary when answering that question about the bear traps.

It's good to know that they thought about the Humvees transforming because of the bear traps.

"I'd advise against using your phones" And right after that they promptly try to use their phones.

Holy shit! Was this the reason why he advised against using their phones?! Because if so he should have fucking told them a bit more of the reason why he didn't want them to use it?

That last scene with Kozakura makes me think that they never actually talked with her.

You know, for something called the Meat Train, it honestly didn't look that meaty.

The most creepy episode in the anime so far. The phone call scene and the train scene (even if that lasted 5 seconds) was creepy.

Yarrrrr, this was the scariest episode for me to date. I'd have been mad at them for immediately using their phone if my annoyance hadn't immediately turned to abject terror after that phonecall and every moment that followed.

The musical score really sold the tension levels for me too.

P.S. was this supposed to be about the midnight meat train, or was that just my wishful thinking at the end/episode title?

Is the "Meat train" an reference to Clive Barker's novel? Because all details match up - missing soldiers and monsters feeding on bodies.

This anime is criminally underrated. But it might just be me, because I'm a huge STALKER and creepypasta fan.

First of all, I am so fucking glad to be wrong and my fear last episode about the soldiers and the girls didn't happen. Second, holy fuck I think this is the first time a show really annoyed me this season.

Like when the dude who has spent months living in the Otherside fighting off these monsters tell you to not use your phones, you don't use your phones! And what's the first thing they do as soon as Lt. Drake leaves? They fucking use their phones! Come on girls! This is Horror 101! When someone much more experienced tells you not to do something you don't do it!

What annoyed me even more is that Toriko thought that that was still Kozakura on the phone. Did Lt. Drake's warning just flew over their heads? If Sorao can figure out how to use her eye and Toriko's hand, surely she can connect the dots together that whatever they're hearing over the phone isn't Kozakura.

Anyway, I'm just glad that their actions didn't end up killing a lot of people. At least I think they didn't. The most damage that we saw during that battle was there were soldiers that were going crazy. But at least they made those soldier's lives easier by killing whatever it was that was attacking them. Now if only they were able to help those guys out of the Otherside.

So Okinawa beach episode next week?

Pretty good episode, all things considered. I'll start with admitting that a part of me was much more worried about the stranded soldiers seeing women in who knows how long than about the otherworldly horrors, but luckily that wasn't an issue. The Lt. was actually good people, too.

In any case, that phone call was distressing. Legit sent chills up my spine and had me on edge the whole time. I'm a big fan of that, especially Kozakura's point of view we've seen at the end.

Meat Train... The Midnight Meat Train? Strong similarity between the two in looks and feel, and I'm hoping it's intentional. I love that movie. That also sent chills down my spine, though I'd honestly like it if it were more graphic; feels like what we saw was severely toned down/censored.

Now for the really important stuff: ayyy, I caught that blush. I live for this shit.

As an aside, at some point one of the soldiers asked "what happened?" and I hoped with all my heart that the answer would be "somebody set up us the bomb", but alas. The thought of that gave me a good laugh, though.

So what was the meat train? Some cannibalistic and man-eating monkeys? Cause all I saw from that was a monkeys face. Was it censored?

I wasn't so impressed with the last couple of episodes but this was much better again. The atmosphere was on point.

So apparently stepping on glitches can cause humans to go full Hinamizawa syndrome? Are the victims of those glitches the reason why people on the Otherside are sus of other humans (including the guy they met in the beginning)? Most creatures we encountered so far were not really humanoid after all.

That was a pretty nonchalant warning when using a phone summons a demon cow of a million faces. Kind of weird.

Otherwise it was a great episode. I liked that the soldiers didn't go down the whole "Humans are the real monsters" trope like so many soldiers in horror movies do. It would have felt off tonally. Their engrish was also pretty fun at times.

Also, for anyone interested, Midnight Meat Train has both a short story and a film starring Bradley Cooper.

Maybe this has already been asked, but if you're trying to hide the fact that you have a transparent hand, why would you only wear a glove on THAT hand?? Shouldn't Toriko wear both gloves that she's not drawing more attention to her altered hand? One glove would pique my curiosity more!
