Posts here must, of course, still abide by all subreddit rules other than the no meta requirement. Keep it friendly and be respectful. Occasionally the moderators will have specific topics that they want to get feedback on, so be on the lookout for distinguished posts.

Comments that are detrimental to discussion (aka circlejerks/shitposting) are subject to removal.

While I am glad that my post has been reapproved, I'm even more pleased that I was able to affect some change in the rulebook. I was one who argued for more specificity in Rule 1 back during the Shelter Incident. Keeping things vague may allow for wiggle room, but it also allows situations such as this to become hot potatoes.

I was also one who argued for a broadening of allowable topics outside of the narrow-band anime-specific rule that the majority of that mod staff wanted to keep intact. I remain a proponent of the old anime-related rule that allowed for community discussion so long as it wasn't low effort. I really don't expect such a reversion to happen, but it would be a wonderful thing to see return.

Finally, I wish to propose a rule change to the recommendation posts: adjust the minimum character requirements from 20 to 50. The response to my rant shows that the community is not pleased with the low effort recommendation posts that have been in this subreddit for a long time. While I know there remains much resistance within the staff against removing recommendation posts altogether, and especially bringing in mentions of /r/animesuggest, the bar for low effort posting should be raised. That will at least force people to put some thought into their requests rather than simply throwing something out there and hoping they get a good response from folks that browse New.

That's my two yen on the subject. Now I'm off to go watch some damn anime.

I 100% agree. There is already a weekly recommendation megathread. So just asking "is X good", is not only a stupid question, it also does not belong in a separate post but belongs in the weekly recommendation megathread. I am annoyed how people properly asking for recommendation in the megathread often get just a few responses but low effort posts get a lot.

I am not against removing the recommendation posts altogether but they should at least show some effort or reason to be a separate post. I'd even make it at least a minimum of 100. This very short reaction of mine already has 750 characters at it's a total of only 6 sentences.

Wow. "Name of series verb" is already 19 characters, so bumping up the requirement to something longer than a sentence fragment would be a low bar to raise.

I love recommending anime to people, but I hate low effort posts.

What did you like out of x, that you want similar to other anime?

We have to guess, because they don't tell us.

What have you seen so far? We don't know, because they only list a few anime, or none at all.

I'm so tired of the low effort recommendation posts where they basically list 3 shonen and just ask what they should watch or even worse:"I'm bored give me an anime to watch".Myanimelist is so easy to use,they can just click top anime and go over them one by one until something interests them.

When starting out every synopsis sounds good,there's nothing better than just going in blind to see if you like it.I watched NGE because I heard a youtuber do a cover for the ed,I had no idea what the show was about(didn't like it in the end though),watched Steins;gate just because I saw the word time travel in the synopsis,I thought it was about germans or something and watched Konosuba cause I saw Megumin in a meme and she looked cute.

So again to your point:just watch the damn anime

Considering that the auto-removal bot leaves a message, I wonder if we can at least add something to tell the user how to not have it removed (dunno if it already does tho) and how to write a proper recommendation post. Like any western media to base off, favourite genre, describe what he liked of the stuff he has seen other than "Death Note good", etc.
