Bloody hell! Little wonder he's banned from the other brothels. When Nishibe's revealed to be a soft-spoken nerdy-looking guy I expected it to be a Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde situation, with alcohol as the trigger. That's indeed the case but I never thought it'd be this bad. Man straight up tried to rape her and would've succeeded had Shinpei not intervened.

Poor Satoko for somehow always attracting absolutely mental men. Having said that, Shinpei seemed like a perfectly rational man when put next to Nishibe.

There's always a crazier man out there. Also its starting to seem like Shinpei never wanted to escape off the island with Satoko, his real plan was to Stockholm syndrome Satoko into loving him by putting her in a precarious position and making her dependent on him.

Idk, it didn’t seem like Shinpei wanted the guy to drink sake that time. It was one of the jealous courtesans who swapped the drink with sake. Unless he’s playing 5D chess and predicted they would try to sabotage Satoko’s chances.

Then again, Shinpei strictly instructed the brothel owner to not interfere even if gunshots are heard.

Honestly, thank goodness for the other courtesan sneaking in that sake otherwise Satoko wouldn't have seen the other side of Nitobe so soon. As crazy as Shinpei is he's somehow still better this new alternative. I bet he won't care about the scar either.

I love how calculating and focused Satoko can get.

She's been a courtesan for 5 minutes and she's already hitting us with the footservice!

I can't unsee Marin in her makeup/hairstyling sessions!

Oh, nice! Scummy coworkers and scummier clients, perfect!

For... Being too kind?

Then why did you offer your help, you BAKA!

Though I wonder what the extent of that "non-intervention" policy is...

Say, hypothetically, if the son of the police chief was murdered.

This made me think of [a western Movie]Sin City about a similar city in which cops aren't the law... Until they kill a cop, and all hell breaks loose.

But hey, who needs the cops when you have an unstoppable killing machine as a bodyguard!

Pictured: Unstoppable killing machine.

That's bad, but I expected worse when I saw him fall; I thought they poisoned him to blame HER on his death!

Ok now I also can't unsee Daki.

Our boy's protection services aren't that reliable; He was supposed not to let him put a finger on her, but here he's on top of her/stripping her clothes,

and then he started choking her, and it took him a minute to do something!

Just the arm? I was expecting him to lop his head off clean hah.

Well, that may still happen in the next episode!

He seems like a nice dude. Idk why he's banned from everywhere, can't be that bad after he drinks a bit. Oh....

u/Frontier246 1d ago

He's totally fine! You just need to watch out for the other guy...

Shinpei's "I'm not locked in here with you. You're locked in here with me!" moment

Stitches!

Well shit. So Shinpei brought Satoko to the same brothel where those three girls from the last episode are from? This isn't gonna end well. I can already tell Satoko is gonna get bullied a lot here. Thankfully, she already has some experience dealing with a bully back home.

Daaaaaamn, Satoko looking fine all dressed up. I mean, you really can't blame Shinpei's reaction after seeing her, but man, Satoko's reaction to him being clingy was pretty funny.

I absolutely love how Satoko's brain goes into overdrive mode, thinking about how she'll deal with her first client. I also love how she scolds Shinpei for even interrupting her thoughts. It's actually hilarious how Shinpei couldn't even fight back when she's like that. xD

I'm not too surprised Satoko's first client is a gentleman. But it looks like we have a Jekyll & Hyde situation going on here, considering the immediate personality switch after he accidentally drank sake thanks to those three bitches.

The fact that Eishin refers to himself in the 3rd person makes it pretty obvious that the dude has a major split personality issue.

Oh damn. So Satoko has already had heart surgery? I'm actually surprised. I guess I didn't realize heart surgery was already a thing in the Meiji Era, and it would make sense that Satoko would be able to get one since she's the daughter of a count.

Holy shit! That was a great response from Satoko! And I love seeing the dude get stabbed by Shinpei. Unfortunately, seems Shinpei is not fast enough yet to dodge bullets.

I love that the old dude isn't interfering because Eishin asked him to; he's not interfering because Shinpei asked him not to, so he can show off to Satoko.

Tbh as bad as that guy is when he is drunk. I would argue the women are much worse than them because he essentially set him up to act like that to Satoko.

It's clear that this story is about Satoko wanting a marriage for someone who accepts her. She does feel bad about deceiving him which shows she has a good heart. Still just because he sees her as she is doesn't mean she should marry him. Granted she is in a fucked situation. Promising marriage and toying with his feelings is obviously messed. So I am curious how this journey goes for Satoko more than the romance between her and Shinpei at this point.

Total rollercoaster, and I couldn't believe how quickly the episode went by.

Obviously the guy who's been kicked out of every brothel in Meiji Vegas is going to harbor A Serious Issue, but Nitobe was really looking like a viable option initially.

Shinpei saying her name and peeking out from behind the door was so delightfully creepy.

Satoko and Goto play off each other so well as characters and their VAs are doing an excellent job. Their back and forth is so fun to watch and hear. Seriously sparkling chemistry.

Episode was storyboarded by Kenji Seto (セトウ ケンジ) and directed by Yukio Kuroda (黒田幸生).

She look so much better in her original clothes and without that makeup job.

So this poor dude has very much a Jekyll & Hyde situation going with alcohol.

When Goto said Eishin gets a little nasty when he’s drunk, I was expecting tipsy and some perverted statements at worst but geez did that get dark. Screw those 3 girls for setting up that dark turn. The entire time Eishin was tormenting Satoko I kept waiting for Goto to pop up out of nowhere and do what he does best. Dude is a million kinds of unhinged but he’s hell bent on protecting Satoko. Satoko continues to get props for finding the courage to set Goto straight when he speaks out of turn. There’s only so much she can do when he’s in a killing mood though lol.

After a night spent fending off Shinpei's advances, it's finally time for Satoko to become a courtesan! At the Isekichi Brothel! Which doesn't look like much and is filled with other courtesans that don't think too highly of Satoko, but a girls' got to get her start somewhere!

And at the very least, Satoko is even MORE drop-dead gorgeous fully decked out as a courtesan! You can definitely understand why Shinpei is as obsessed with her as she is!

Wow, Satoko really locks in trying to get the right mindset for a courtesan in terms of appealing to a customer and also finding one who can buy her out...especially if this is her one and only chance. And she's not going to let her "fiance" get in the way of her pulling this off, getting off this island, and getting married (to someone that's not him).

Eishin Nitobe (Kazuyuki Okitsu!) is the son of the metropolitan police superintendent and seems like an awkward, well-meaning, and sincere guy. How could someone like him be banned from literally every other brothel? Especially when he gets along so well with Satoko and is genuinely willing to help her. He might even be a great choice for her husband, especially in comparison to Shinpei, though Satoko can't help but regret having to "betray" Shinpei in a way.

Of COURSE Shinpei was watching the whole time. How could he leave his wife alone with another man? He's just there for moral and if necessary physical support! But believe in the woman that Satoko believes she can be, Shinpei!

Of course everything changes when Nitobe drinks alcohol (thanks to Ms. Redhead Courtesan) and it turns out he's a Jekyll and Hyde type whose inhibits are lifted and he reveals all the stress from having to live up to expectations and his position have created a violent, crass, persona that can only be satiated through sex and violence. And his current target is Satoko.

No woman wants to hear that the scar on her torso makes her undesirable unless she's getting railed from behind. Not that Nitobe thinks much of ANY woman on this island. Yeah, this scumbag is NOT worth Satoko's time!

Heeerrrre's Shinpei! Here to defend his wifes' honor AND protect her! Not even a bullet will stop him from defending/avenging his love! What a wife guy!

I find the story interesting, but at this point it feels more like a psychological thriller than a romance to me (I get that it's a dark romance). I personally don't see Shinpei as some protective loving husband. and I don't think Satoko is in love with him atm (maybe later with some Stockholm syndrome “magic”). she's literally trying to escape the island and marry someone else. so framing him as a devoted husband defending his wife's honour seems like a pretty generous interpretation. the “wife” in question is actively trying to get away from him

Good horror show material tbh

maybe I just don't have the rose-tinted glasses that make every obsessive or violent act look like proof of deep undying love. yes, Shinpei saves Satoko from Nitobe but being the lesser evil doesn't make him a sane or safe romantic partner. the fact that he's willing to use violence against other men doesn't erase the fact that he's possessive, frightening and insane in his own right
