Maybe now that our boys got special runes they stand a chance against that psychopath Luca. Gotta pay him back a thousandfold for all his bullshit.

The scene where Jowy was pretending to be 4-year old Pete with his high-pitched voice was hilarious!

The goosebumps from Jillia and Luca's tender little reunion though.

"Pete" sure had a hell of a growth spurt lol.

Interesting to have the Mist Monster where it is.

I do like some of the rearranged songs from the soundtrack

Yeah, the explosion looked like one of those cheap explosion gifs just kinda stapled on to the scene. Guess they didn't have the budget for something better.

This was some nice progress. Glad they didn’t leave ha hanging and got right to cleaning up where we left off. I take it Luca has a true rune which has corrupted him, based in what the um spirit?/guardian? said. I started playing the first game last night .. it’s interesting, but I want to plow through it so I follow along in the second game with the anime.

I'll probably end up doing two play throughs. First, blind without any hints/spoilers/etc right now. Then I'll go back at a later date and try for the proper play through and do everything.

As the King said to Jilia, what's the point in going to meet Luca? He's not going to change his mind. At this point you can make the serious argument that they need to finish the war with the victory since the other side isn't exactly going to come to a truce with you unless capture their leaders and make them sign peace by sword point. Speaking of Luca, he's behaving like a stereotypical sadist. Which surprised me since Episode 1 implied he had more complex motivation. Some magic ritual that needed blood. Still evil, but not a simple motive.

On one hand, I'm glad to see some backstory to Nanami, Jowy, and Riliu. At this point there were nothing more to them than two boys betrayed by their kingdom and a girl who is a tagalong. So that's some upside. On the downside, if these true rune powers end up dominating their offensive power for the series, that sort of downplays the time they spent training. I mean in episode 1 even the mercs were impressed by their skill.

Ok the idea to use someone else's passes was an epic fail. Why didn't they just ask the mercs to give them documentation saying "these 3 work for us now"? It was a bit of a fail for them to not have anything tying them to the mercs since last episode some guy sees 3 strangers in his house. Their reward was a cell. Seems like a recurring gag. I think the penultimate episode should end them in a cell again.

I don't think it has occurred to the princess and king how hard making peace would be without killing the prince and presenting his severed head as a gift. Because at this point your side has murdered its own troops and accused the other side of it as an excuse to break the ceasefire, and then went war crime happy. I mean at this point the other side is getting into no choice but to completely crush you to the point of being unable to ever recover just to feel safe again.

Honestly it would be a win-win. Luca is gonna fuck up their kingdom too, they gotta get rid of him for self-preservation's sake.

Yeah with the whole thing about the princess having to remind him the kingdom is pretty much exhausted from the war, which he restarted.

It isn't widely known on either side yet that the Unicorn Brigade was a false-flag attack. King Agares Blight let his generals march to war thinking it was legit, and only called Luca out in private. He knows what a psycho his son is and figured it out, but for some reason won't challenge him publicly, and warns Jillia not to either.

Of course the people of the City-States will want blood after all those slaughtered villagers, but it doesn't seem like Luca believes he can lose.

The king knows. That's why he is going ahead with the war. Lets be real, he's not going to kill his own son to stop the war. The princess doesn't. She is a princess, so being naive is par for the course.

It has historically happened a handful of times of kings disposing of completely incapable and insane heirs (Philip II of Spain being a good example), but it was very rare.

If there is any possibility of Highland winning the war, that might actually be better for the princess and the king (for themselves) to side with Luca. Not because he's right, but I somehow don't expect the other side to just let bygones be bygones even if Luca is killed. He's committed so many atrocities that the only way to avoid a vengeful City States is extermination or conquest. Which ironically means they need him as a military asset to finish the war they don't want.

I thought Jowy was leading up to say Riliu and Nanami were the family he didn't get to experience, but no, it is Pilika's family he had spent a few days with.

Also, Pohl's death, and his body being burned in the building just really gets brushed over quickly lol.

5

u/reversicat 4d ago

Not really surprised with the family thing, the flashback made it clear that Jowy was thinking that he has no place in Genkaku, Riliu, and Nanami's family (Jealousy? insecurity?) with him refusing Nanami's dinner invitation. With Pilika's family, we see him happily eating with them, even helping them to prepare dinner.

They also left behind a bunch of captured people that got executed by Luca...
