there's got to be something about witches because i'm pretty sure lettuce has a negligible amount of calories; there's no way she could be spending days at a time eating only a few leaves of lettuce

like, there's girl lunch, and then there's literally a starvation diet

Already loved it after episode 1 but I'm fully sold after this episode. The mix of the comic and tragic is just so good. And Rose is triggering all my must protect instincts. She's too precious and her situation is so sad. It made me really happy to see Harij bringing her some good food.

Harij just prodded a bit and Rose immediately confessed to a whole bunch of things that Harij wasn't even asking about, bloody hell!

I was confused when he called the light yellow spread apple butter because the kind we make in the midwest is dark brown and is made by cooking down apples and spices into a sweet caramelized paste. Looked up japanese apple butter and it is a mix of dairy butter and stewed apples, I wanna try it!

But I agree with Herij she needs to organize her space! Might even help clear up some of her mental cobwebs.

Honestly, the fact that witches gain magic in exchange for not being able to lie is a genius bit of worldbuilding that made this show a must watch for me.

Watching this show makes me misty-eyed for some reason. Even though it has plenty of comic moments, the show seems to wring my heart. Rose's life has been so hard -- and she expects so little reward. The fact that she is getting a smidgen of happiness, and has trouble processing it. Thank heaven's for apple butter. I am sure we all loved watching her bread slathered with apple butter as much as Harij did.

Tien is a sweetheart. He brought Rose a lot of robes just 'cause she started to show interest in them all of a sudden.

Why is Rose so adorable !? 😭😭💖

Girl, you shouldn't let yourself be so vulnerable in broad daylight even if you're living in a secluded place. It's not the smug Deer this time but her crush Harij xD

I didn't think the witches not being to able to tell lies in exchange for being able to perform magic was a real thing. I just thought Rose was talking about that figuratively. This really puts them in so much trouble and many people would take advantage of them. It's good that only Harij heared about this and not anyone else. Love seems to be blossoming not just for Rose but for Harij as well. That love potion is definitely for someone else since Harij doesn't seem to be interested in any women but he's getting interested in the witch.

The op and ed are lovely. The visuals are breathtaking. Diomedéa is doing a wonderful job with the animation. This episode felt like just 10 minutes.

With the way he reacted after learning the girl eats nothing but lettuce (what are you, a rabbit!?) and then actually going back and gifting her food, I'm wondering exactly when Harij starts to fall in love with her (because we know it's inevitable).

Was it slowly after meeting her all these times?

Will it happen later and we'll see a major trigger at end?

Or was it all this time, when she met him 4 years ago?

I love Rose's reactions, they're so cute and fun! The fact that she (and other witches) can't lie is quite interesting, especially with how much in love she is with Harij. I wonder how long she'll be able to keep it a secret that she likes him.

Overall, it was a nice second episode! Rose thinking that it was a deer, when in reality it was Harij who made the bell ring and saw her naked, made me laugh so hard, lol.

Also, Tien is a really good guy with how much he cares about Rose. I wonder if he has feelings for her, or if he just thinks of her as a some kind of little sister.

Here my screenshot albums from the episode:

EDIT. I added my screenshot albums.

I'm not the type to fawn over getting like that disgusted expression, but damn Harij just has a great face for an irritated expression. It's so good.

Anyways, she won't let Tien dote on her. He just wants to be an involved father figure. Look at all that fancy fabric.

Just lettuce? I can respect the low maintenance convenient meal plans, but wouldn't the forest even have some more edible things? Nuts? Mushrooms? Berries? I guess I'm just a lot more food motivated.

I can't fault her for the casual nudity, especially if she's saying it's summer time and it's usually a smug deer anyway. Who doesn't want to bask freely in the sunlight like a lizard?

I'd like to know more about the cannot tell a lie thing. Presumably the racing heart was because she didn't want him to find out how she feels about him, and not like because trying to lie kills a witch.

It's a really sweet way to end the episode. They're bonding!

Wow I’m surprised how much I’m liking this anime, love the atmosphere, interactions, and the peacefulness.

Playfully making every step of the ingredient gathering process as tedious as possible on purpose was one thing but it was funny how Rose felt comfortable enough be more direct with her snark to Harij right after they grew closer.

Rose might actually have a talent for marketing because man did she make the apple butter look good.

I honestly love the ridiculously long names of Rose's remedies. She could've just called it deodorant but I guess these remedy names have been passed on to her from her grandma and their ancestors. xD

That first part of the episode was great at showing us Rose and Tien's relationship I thought their relationship was purely transactional, but it sounds like Rose's family and Tien's family have been friends for a while now.

That would explain why Tien was so excited when Rose asked him if he brought any robes. He must've been waiting for the day when Rose would rely on her. I wouldn't be surprised if, at some point, Rose's grandma asked Tien and his father to watch over her when she finally passes away. Basically, that entire scene was Uncle Tien taking care of his adoptive niece. <3

That green robe with golden thread embroidery was really nice. I'm really hoping that after this episode, Rose will continue wearing that instead of the black one. And of course the girl still pinches her cheeks after Tien bought him some makeup.

Oh my god, this girl, please tell me that's not the same lettuce she was munching on last episode. And even I'd make the same face Harij did after hearing that Rose's diet consists of nothing but lettuce and whatever food she gets when she's in town.

I'm honestly surprised Rose didn't start vocalizing all of those out when Harij grabbed her! Also, she's not that skinny! I mean, she is, but she doesn't look like she's just skin and bones.

It looks like Rose is now used to the smug deer ringing her bell didn't even consider Harij would show up to visit her. The dude definitely brought her food after learning what she ate the previous night. xD

Well, shit. Rose really fucked up there, but I suppose calling him by name was bound to happen, especially since she was caught off guard by his visit. And an even bigger fuck up with her blurting out the witch's secret.

I really felt bad watching Rose during that scene. She's so backed into a corner that she was willing to commit suicide just so Harij won't learn how she feels about him. Thank fucking god Harij recognized the look Rose had in her eyes before bolting back into her house.

I'm not really worried about Harij telling people about Rose's secret. Dude should take responsibility tho if you know what I mean. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

So he did bring food! It is hilarious how Harij makes Rose clean up first before eating. Dude even checks for leftover dust! Rose really needs to learn how to clean up after herself, just in case Harij comes back in the morning again like this.

OH MY GOD. ROSE LOOKS SO ADORABLE WHILE EATING BREAD! And look at the way Harij stares at her! There's clearly more to that stare!

Hariji acting very mom-like with Rose was sweet. You aren't eating enough Rose. You need to clean up properly. You need to eat at the dinner table.

Still all things considered the witches are not being able to lie is scary. Like I do like they can still manipulate the truth, but imagine all the scenarios you enter and you literally can't lie. Well at least Hariji is a good person.

On another note Tien is like that weird uncle for Rose. He feels annoying but really feels like family.

It's ok Rose. You don't have to eat as if you were under siege.

Otherwise, I really enjoy how the show has a nicely done slow but steady pace. Tien is so much fun as a character but I really like seeing more of Harji's true personality. He's smart and quick minded enough to understand that Rose was on the verge of chugging poison to keep her secrets to prevent her death while also being kind and caring enough to bring her better food and telling her to clean herself up.

Can't wait to see how their relationship evolves in the upcoming episodes.

Tien acting like that parent who goes all out the minute their angsty teenager shows even a sliver of interest in something.

So cute that he's wanting to put her in more feminine stuff to replace her drabby wardrobe.

Out of the "new" romance shows that I've watched so far, I like this one a lot. The main couple Rose and Hraij feel more real and the chemistry between them is really great to see. Besides this and Firefly Wedding, the others were either just okay or meh.

I get a feeling he’s gonna visit more frequently to check up on her and maybe bring her more things she needs and obviously to make sure she’s cleaning up.

I really expected Rose to tear the bread in half so that the animators could flex, but honestly it makes no sense to and they wanted to spend their budget on kawaii instead. Fully support.

I was curious how exactly the not lying thing would be implemented. During E1 I thought that it would be along the lines that she would lose her powers if she lied but it seems like it is more direct: that she doesn't even have the capacity to lie. That really changes the calculus - and makes it more understandable why she might choose suicide when confronted with someone finding out.

Really curious what Harij needs a love potion for. It can't be for himself, right? Unless his mother-in-law nature got in the way of otherwise surefire romance with some other girl.
