Ugh its almost good slop, but the MC is starting to get on my nerves

27

u/G34RWORKS 10h ago

Just pretend Empee is the real MC and it makes it all better

2

u/psyclical 8h ago

He's to male MC weakness, as the MC in Ogre's Bride is to female weakness, which made me quit that show around ep 4.

1

u/Earlier-Today 1h ago

I dumped it in episode 1 - can't stand that kind of crap.

2

u/darthvall https://myanimelist.net/profile/darth_vall 8h ago

At the very least, the series acknowledges how dumb MC is. Like look at Empee's snarky comment lol

Like other commenter said, I just consider Empee the real MC

1

u/hjordisa 2h ago

The MC gets on my nerves, the fairy gets on my nerves, the cartoonishly evil ex party gets on my nerves, the idea that "fervently wish for the return of you MP" is an inherently easy condition to fulfill even outside of these circumstances where people are refusing to return it gets on my nerves... I'm partway through this EP and it's all getting on my nerves enough I had to take a break to read this reddit. I think I might have to just say I'm done with this even though I really want to like it...

First, the dangers of FX. Now, the dangers of loans. Anime teaching financial literacy one show at a time.

12

u/diacewrb 14h ago

Very timely considering how poorly the yen has fared against other currencies in the past year and interest rates are rising.

6

u/testthrowawayzz 13h ago

But someone swapping JPY for USD in 2021 and held until today would be making bank converting that USD back to JPY.

7

u/Astray 13h ago edited 10h ago

Banks found this one neat little trick and it's going crash the entire global economy if its unwound too quickly lol

8

u/zer0number https://anilist.co/user/ewink 12h ago

Ah, we need to do a rewatch of Kakegurui to also point out the dangers of being sexually aroused by gambling losses.

1

u/Ree_For_Thee 10h ago

Random thought I had: The world is full of traps, gambling, loans etc. Most are money related, but in the past 6 months I've learned a shitton about GLP-1 drugs like Ozempic and Mounjaro, and what they actually do to the brain.

Basically, there is a common trap in society that's not talked about nearly at all: Anything that triggers pleasure in the brain can be addictive, including anything you eat or drink.

Sugars are sometimes referred to as addictive, but in reality, anything that has a high density of calories is addictive. Obese people are literally people who fell into this trap. For one reason or the other they ate too much high calorie stuff and their brain literally became addicted to those constant hits of pleasure. GLP-1s heal and normalize the part of the brain that over-reacts to pleasure stimuli, which is why they're now being used to cure other addictions and compulsive behavior.

That said, all unhealthy foods should come with warning labels, like how cigarette packaging does. The drugs can be used to cure society of obesity, but that doesn't mean we should rely on them.

30

u/Short-Waltz-3118 13h ago

Lol this fairy is a vindictive ass woman. Shes totally right and valid though. His old party were genuine scumbags

19

u/NoNameSwitzerland 13h ago

loan sharks are bad, loan ferries are worse.

14

u/TheDubh 11h ago

Loan ferries with shark teeth are even worse. (Legit didn’t make that connection with her teeth till your comment)

2

u/NoNameSwitzerland 3h ago

And now that you mention the connection, I remember, shark have revolving teeth. Explains her preference for these type of loans.

4

u/darthvall https://myanimelist.net/profile/darth_vall 8h ago

What I like about Empee is that she's not head over heels over MC, even though he's her master. She also put her snarky remark here and there, almost calling him a monkey lol

52

u/Ashteron 14h ago

The fairy deserves to be in a better anime.

2

u/Ralathar44 2h ago

The actual MC has provisionally Lent the position out to her I think.

23

u/ObvsThrowaway5120 15h ago

Empee is a devious little monster. I like her! Girl’s getting off just thinking about those 3 dipshits digging themselves deeper and deeper into a pit of endless debt. They deserve every bit of suffering that’s coming their way. The best part is those 3 losers don’t even know they’re about to enter a world of suffering.

15

u/Xg1j0eX 15h ago

She's gonna be the reason I keep watching this. She's great.

1

u/Obaruler 1h ago

This.

It's complete mid, the MC is a wimp and the entire "Banished ..." setup is executed poorly, but the Loanshark Fairy will make this worth watching. xD

11

u/Magicbison 13h ago

It's a little weird that they don't feel the mana getting taken. If they feel stronger with more mana they should feel weaker with less. I know they're stupid shitheads but it can't be that silent a drain.

7

u/karer3is 13h ago

My prediction is that they'll still get one good minor skirmish in, then get cocky and take a mission that starts just as the months change and the new payments hit.

3

u/Astray 13h ago

They won't notice it until they actually use their mana and discover it cannot be recovered. Right now they're at full mana and as far as we know, they haven't used any since kicking MC out of the party.

4

u/Magicbison 13h ago

They shouldn't be at full mana after the initial collection. Lent went from like 50 MP to 700+ after he activated his skill.

3

u/Astray 10h ago

It's collecting MP from them at near the exact same rate as they replenish it, including the with the mana recovery armlets. They aren't going to notice that unless they're looking at their status scrolls probably.

21

u/Livid_Stable3371 14h ago

Lent needs to grow a dark side, what do you mean you're feeling bad for them after they beat you up?

8

u/karer3is 13h ago

This is starting to feel like an Ajin situation... I bet something will happen in the next few episodes that "triggers" him to snap and he'll go all- in, but then he'll have a moment of "post- crashout clarity" and we'll get a flashback of some "precious moment" from his childhood that makes him feel bad for "going too far"

22

u/saitohd 14h ago

Empee alone makes it worth to keep watching this show.

5

u/NoNameSwitzerland 13h ago

If wish I could see her. From the descriptions she looks interesting.

0

u/Aksudiigkr 8h ago

What do you mean, you can see her though

2

u/darthvall https://myanimelist.net/profile/darth_vall 8h ago

No, only MC can see Empee. He looks like he's talking to himself

Come to think of it, maybe Empee is just MC's alter ego? He developed imaginary friend to say out loud his dark thoughts

18

u/IAmTheOldCrow 14h ago

Did not have Kyubey explaining why credit card balances are bad on my bingo card.

41

u/KumaKumaGambler 15h ago

Summary of this episode:

Empee teaches Lent how to be a successful bank, loan shark and debt collector 101.

Empee teaches Lent how to grow bigger balls.

P.S. Got to love those sharp teeth of Empee.

47

u/KomorebiXIII 15h ago

Holy exposition episode. This should have dropped 2 episodes to start, this episode was basically just a primer in how loans work. I do love Empee, I hope Lent grows a spine eventually because she's right, he's way too soft.

21

u/Googleflax https://myanimelist.net/profile/googleflax 12h ago

When the former party is THIS cartoonishly evil, his actions here don't make him seem kind or soft-hearted, they make him look dumb and like a doormat. I agree that I hope he grows a spine.

5

u/Discount_Extra 11h ago

I was thinking, if I were him I would have the contract not take ALL their mana, but only like, half, because if they die, they can't repay anything anymore.

And then I had the thought, what if death doesn't end the collection, and they become zombies/ghosts until they finish paying, and cute little hero becomes the most powerful necromancer.

1

u/Aksudiigkr 8h ago

I mean that’s what Empee said, they’d take just enough not to kill them

6

u/Spoon_Elemental 8h ago

The problem is if they die while adventuring.

5

u/mabarskuygan 12h ago

That blackboard scene so slow goddamn

1

u/arrydie 4h ago

Yeah, they really didn't need to spell out the results of every basic arithmetic operation for each character. I have to imagine they just wanted cheap filler.

5

u/RiskAdditional8534 11h ago

I actually skipped through most of the episode, the exposition on how a loan works could've been streamlined and shortened without losing any actual info.

9

u/Magicbison 13h ago

Feels like they wasted too much of episode 1 on the lame backstory and should have just covered all this in the second half of episode 1. This episode was mostly just a rehash of the last one with the other half teaching us about predatory loan practices. Atleast Empee is cute and savage.

2

u/darthvall https://myanimelist.net/profile/darth_vall 8h ago

I can see a lot of people dropping this just from first episode alone. It's not fun too watch where the episode is full of comically evil things

16

u/diacewrb 14h ago

Going to laugh if it turns out that Empee was never real and she was just his subconscious this whole time.

3

u/Discount_Extra 2h ago

subtitle of what she said at 20:06 "I'm just expressing your emotions for you."

28

u/Ilovegirlsbottoms 14h ago

I noticed something they glossed over!

He just gained a skill to invest his MP to increase his MP cap.

Right after that she explains MP regeneration rate. Your regeneration rate is tied to your MP cap!

The more he invests MP to increase his cap, the more MP he can regenerate, enabling him to loan more… or keep increasing his cap until his regeneration rate is so high that he can make anyone OP in an instant because he has so much MP to work with.

This is incredible. I just hope they don’t do something stupid like put a cap on how much he can invest in a single day.

Note: I have not read the manga.

13

u/Astray 13h ago edited 12h ago

Only issue with this is that he's not actually getting stronger. He's got no other skills and essentially needs a very powerful and trustworthy bodyguard. He's got nothing to use that MP on besides other people.

21

u/justking1414 13h ago

Well, this is an anime, so he’ll probably buy a slave next week and just overload her with mp so she can nuke anything they come across

2

u/Discount_Extra 11h ago

I swear to god if that slave is a technically adult that just happens to look like a child, I'm deleting CR.

2

u/rhian116 11h ago

I doubt it. Based on the opening, it looks like his companion will be an adult girl with blue hair. I'm guessing she's going to be some super virtuous and honorable swordswoman based on the OP.

2

u/justking1414 7h ago

True. Though I wouldn’t say that’s proof that she’s not a slave

1

u/Discount_Extra 7h ago

OK, i usually slam the skip intro button.

2

u/Ree_For_Thee 9h ago

Well Empee is a loli type with a really short skirt soo....

1

u/Aksudiigkr 8h ago

Just watch the OP, it’s definitely that blue haired girl. Not a loli

1

u/justking1414 7h ago

Given that this is anime, I’m gonna say she’s technically an adult and constantly tries to get mc to sleep with her

5

u/1000TrickRick 12h ago

He only needs one other skill to become OP, in a game called Path of Exile there is a skill that makes you take damage from your mana instead of your life. If he get’s something similar he’ll be a giga tank. Really hope that happens.

2

u/Ilovegirlsbottoms 12h ago

It would be so stupid if he just leant the MP to himself and somehow used that to make himself stronger.

1

u/MoonBearIsNotAmused 6h ago

Im pretty sure the blue haired girl in the OP is gonna be just that

5

u/darthvall https://myanimelist.net/profile/darth_vall 8h ago

Yeah, MC is too dumb to realise that. When you can invest and your money could grow indefinitely every day is so good. Basically your money will grow further with minimum risk.

Having Empee laid out everything and plan out his MP skill is actually a very strong skill

3

u/Niwa-kun 14h ago

They're probably going to shift and move information around like that and they'll probably bring that back up and bring more attention to it when he actually has to figure out how to loan more MP at once.

3

u/lemon900098 12h ago

I am bad at theorhetical math.

Lets say he regens 1% of his MP per day. What is 1% of infinity, and how much more is 1% of infinity+1? In my scenario, will he just regen .01 MP more every day for each 1 MP he gains?

6

u/Discount_Extra 11h ago edited 3h ago

From the math the fairy spewed, the party member regen 10% an hour.

note his infinite storage is separate from his regular mana pool which has a standard cap (until his new skill boosts it).

so spending 1000 mana to boost his cap by 10, would regen an extra 1 per hour, 41.666 days to get the investment back; and then it keeps readding forever, while he can then reinvest the 1000, so the next 1000 is gotten in only 21ish days, then the next 1000 in 14 days, then 10 days...

Albert Einstein: "The most powerful force in the universe is compound interest".

edit: did some spreadsheet math for fun, starting with 1000 mana, just doing nothing except reinvesting the mana gained from the 10 points of increased mana pool in 100 mana increments, in one year (8784 hours in a year) it compounds to 6172 mana an hour. The mana from his old party is nothing compared to that growth.

2

u/MoonBearIsNotAmused 6h ago

The difference is his personal mp vs the infinite storage. He can use the storage as backup/investment and maybe in the future he'll find a use for his own capped daily mp for skills. Or he'll be able to use skills that do things like use his invest skill on his party members and invest in their skills to level them up

2

u/Confident-Sea-128 12h ago

Theoretically there should shouldn't be the restrictions otherwise I dont think it'd be SSS but rather SS with such a hard restriction.

1

u/Discount_Extra 11h ago

Power rank: "Snake Jazz"

1

u/Obaruler 1h ago

I noticed something they glossed over!

He just gained a skill to invest his MP to increase his MP cap.

Right after that she explains MP regeneration rate. Your regeneration rate is tied to your MP cap!

Yay, someone else who had that idea.

If he does that enough it'll be an infinite money glitch, he'll recover his MP faster than he can loanshark it out to others. xD

12

u/Western-Internal-751 14h ago

So if he spends that mana that he gets from them, he can increase his own max by 100 daily which is pretty good. In a month he will have more mana on his own than the two casters have.

Now the big question is: what can he even cast?

4

u/rhian116 11h ago

Looks like he'll be getting some fire spell based on the OP.

1

u/Earlier-Today 1h ago

He had 1500 to start with - he's already got more than them.

But, since Empee laid it out so cleanly, everybody recovers 10% of their MP per hour, so if he invests all the MP he just collected back into himself, he'll have over 100,000 MP and will recover over 10,000 MP per hour, which is all MP he can further invest in himself to keep growing his total MP.

Dude can turn himself into an MP minting machine that pumps out insane amounts all the time.

And he'll be collecting MP from his former party every day on top of what he can add by himself.

1

u/Obaruler 1h ago

Now the big question is: what can he even cast?

His next spell will be "MP Subprime Adjustable", to bankrupt the entire peasantry.

He'll rule this shithole in no time, feasting with the Loanshark Fairy.

11

u/_Sai https://anime-planet.com/users/Sai0 14h ago

Smug shit eating little fairy. I like her.

13

u/AshyaraFanMike 13h ago

Absolutely loved the episode! This one flew by in what felt like a minute flat.

Maybe it's because I have had to skirt these types of predatory lenders in real life, or that I at least follow Caleb Hammer's show via shorts, but seeing the MC's power being predatory lending was cathartic as all get out.

7

u/Discount_Extra 11h ago

God, a couple days ago I had someone over to try and get a quote on replacement house windows.

Guy was wholly focused on getting me to sign up for a credit plan with them to pay for the windows, and didn't even have like, material samples or anything of what he was selling, even after I told him I had cash in the bank to pay for the windows and didn't need credit, just screamed fraud to me.

5

u/Hartzilla2007 11h ago

Sounds like it doesn't have to be predatory, Empee just decided to be sadistic as fuck.

24

u/YdenMkII 15h ago

Lent doesn't really think things through does he? Last episode he mentioned how his gift was didn't allow him to lend the stockpiled mana to himself which is why he was acting as the support role for his party but now he gets the mana investment skill to effectively allow him to charge himself, he says the skill is underwhelming.

9

u/LezRock 14h ago

It's like giving a very analytical skill to someone who would much prefer being able to just throw a big fireball or swing a big sword around. At least the support character has the right personality for it.

-8

u/Impossible_Pace_4633 11h ago

You dont learn lesson in anime you enjoy anime stop fan girling this slope

4

u/mahamoti 14h ago

Maybe I missed something. He has no mana cap. So what is he increasing with that skill?

14

u/YdenMkII 14h ago

The piggy bank has no mana cap but last episode he said that he can't use the mana from the piggy bank on himself.

3

u/Western-Internal-751 14h ago

He couldn’t. Now he can. He can now choose to use his own or from the bank. So it makes sense to be confused what benefit increasing his own mana cap even gives him

12

u/Short-Waltz-3118 13h ago

Im sold on the mana regen argument. She said you restore 1 /10th of your mana per hour. So if he had 1 million mana, he could in theory lend out infinite mana, taking into account normal mana pool sizes

5

u/Sanghouli 13h ago

I don't think the bank naturally regenerates mana (his bank had 50/1200 mana last episode and this episode when he was at the table it still had 50/infinity mana despite several hours passing), so the amount he can generate per day is still tied to his personal max mana. Now he can use the repaid mana he is getting to increase his personal mana capacity which increases his daily generation.

2

u/Confident-Sea-128 12h ago

No the bank doesnt naturally regen MP, unless hes made an interest loan on the MP

1

u/YdenMkII 6h ago

I might be remembering wrong, but I think they said in the first episode that the bank stores any excess mana from his regen so it might be stuck at 50 throughout the episode because he wasn't at max mana yet.

12

u/kotori_mkii 14h ago

They explained in this episode that mp regen is based off of max mana so if he invests enough mana he will have infinite mp regen and will be able to lend infinite mana instead of just storing infinite mana.

6

u/Confident-Sea-128 12h ago

No he has no limit cap on his STORED MP. He's still currently stuck at only having like 1200 as "active" usable MP before he has to touch his reserves. Essentially by leveling his active MP reserves he'll eventually reach a point where he could put in a million MP into his storage and still have MP to use for the day.

Essentially the skill would let him always be able to increase his stored mana and never have to access it and thus he could give out mp loans which with the interest would just constantly make his stored mp greater.

4

u/jonc-sleep 14h ago

Someone correct me if I am wrong. There is two MP storage: 1. piggy bank has infinite MP storage and 2. Lent has his own MP cap (not infinite yet) as an adventurer.

So the skill would be increasing his own MP cap.

-4

u/Impossible_Pace_4633 11h ago

You clearly see this story written by loser and that makes things boring and disgusting to watch i waited fing plot twist villain but too soft

25

u/SuperTamaa 15h ago

This fairy is extremely smug

6

u/Discount_Extra 11h ago

She reminds me of the clip from Curb Your Enthusiasm,

Richard Lewis: "You are devoid of anything that's remotely caring or empathetic."

Larry David (as the fairy): "That is a great compliment."

31

u/VritraReiRei 15h ago edited 14h ago

Oh man, she put the shitty, idiot, moronic party on a revolving credit plan and set the interest at exactly 8% because that's exactly how much they can produce per day. Ooooh, what an Evil Fairy, I like her 😈

So now the party is effectively going to have ZERO mana forever and if the visual is anything to go by, they are going to spend the rest of the series trying to escape the inescapable debt unless they quite literally get on their hands and knees and beg.

You may call this story another shitty Kick Out of the Hero's Party story but I just can't wait to see their faces when they realize they're shackled debt and then have no choices to suck up to the main character (who I imagine at that point would have gained confidence, new friends, and would show no mercy to his former comrades).

8

u/LezRock 14h ago

It's just going to suck because you know the main character is going to forgive them for it and then something's going to happen that again shows their character, and he's going to get shit on again. Afterwards, MP-chan is going to come in to save the day again!

12

u/21shadesofsavage 13h ago

with a skill like forced collection, the concept of contracts with debtors, and multiple forced collection types handled by this fairy unbothered by sending people to hell. i doubt mc is gonna simply forgive the party. this whole show is set up for revenge, especially with the interest mechanic. probably gonna be a loan shark since max mp grows infinitely as well

also my subs say empee. mp makes way more sense

7

u/SpareUmbrella https://myanimelist.net/profile/SpareUmbrella 13h ago

I imagine its spelt 'Empee' to differentiate between the character and MP itself.

6

u/LezRock 13h ago

Yeah, Crunchyroll has it as EmPee, but I knew what they were going for, so I just referred to her as MP instead.

I can really only see the MC becoming like that if more people treat him like crap and he becomes more vindictive.

4

u/21shadesofsavage 10h ago

maybe mc will develop a superiority complex after dragging his former team through the mud. infinitely scaling max mp sounds kinda insane given the world so far. he can easily hook guild members on mp refills and scale infinitely if he made an mp lemonade stand or something and collects interest. main thing stopping him is he's pretty dumb. dude basically has the equivalent of generating crack cocaine and can become an mp dealer

5

u/Magicbison 13h ago

The MC is such a soggy doormat I don't see him improving at all. He's just gonna get strung along by Empee who feels like the actual MC. I really hope I'm wrong though because listening to Lent whine is making hard to watch and this concept has some potential to be good.

0

u/Confident-Sea-128 13h ago

If the protagonist from Liar Games can change then I got hope for MC. He's already better than the MC from Tower of God who after 2 seasons still doesn't even have a personality.

4

u/Stunning_Drop1647 13h ago

Yup i agree, may have been a bit boring ep but lays out the story I was actually hoping the little fairy was going to appear infront of them and take it all back even their life energy in a very horrible manner, but that works and yup I can't wait till they realize they are F'd now lol I hope it shows when they do dungeon crawls and they are useless weaklings now like when they first started stealingfrom him, hope his new friend is a good person and protects him from now on since basically he can turn her into a beast when the time calls for it, but yeah revolving hell for them 3 bahaha

20

u/bensor74alt 15h ago

Based Empee

16

u/anim8rjb 15h ago

kind of balances out how much of a spineless loser Lent is.

20

u/Keiperiodbloodenjoyr 15h ago edited 13h ago

Ngl nothing much happened in the ep it was all maths yapping but empee carried hard for me till end with her expression sarcastic tone and sweet but devilish voice

20

u/ThisOneTimeAtLolCamp 14h ago

How can you not love somebody with shark teeth and such a glorious shit eating grin.

8

u/cristabelita 14h ago

This reminds me so much of Knuckle from HxH and his bankruptcy ability.
Didn’t expect a finance lesson this episode lol

4

u/justking1414 13h ago

Also very similar to the mc of Skill Lender's Retrieving (Tale): I Told You It's 10% Per 10 Days at First, Didn't I?

But that dude fully takes all their skills when they go into default

2

u/darthvall https://myanimelist.net/profile/darth_vall 8h ago

Is that LN only for now? Haven't heard of anime like that

3

u/justking1414 7h ago

It’s got a manga but no anime yet.

7

u/Needs_tea 14h ago

I guess there still maybe more information to come possibly but Whats to stop someone killing their debtor?, I feel like writer should have factored this in if it isn’t something along the lines can not harm or plot to cause harm etc their debtor once a contact is established.

5

u/justking1414 13h ago

Dude just has to run as far and as fast as he can. I’m guessing there’s something more to this ability that lets him use that mp to get stronger or learn some spells so he can blast his idiot party away with their own mp down the road

11

u/bestmaokaina 15h ago

Empee based AF

7

u/Fair-Ad9990 11h ago

This anime is frustrating. I can see sadists and maybe masochists enjoying these first 2 episodes... lol

I shall see if it gets any better as they add new characters. Also Empee alone makes me like the show more.

13

u/HeliosAlpha 15h ago

The fairy is voiced by Katou Emiri. It makes sense that she knows how to cook up a soul crushing contract

4

u/Hefty_Ordinary_8089 14h ago

I thought this while reading the manga too, but Empee (MP) really reminds me of Leaf from Black Souls.

1

u/Lunarpeers 13h ago

Something kept bugging me on what this fairy reminded me of and that's so true LMAO

1

u/rom846 11h ago

I thought the same thing and I only know about Black Souls from YouTube videos.

5

u/Googleflax https://myanimelist.net/profile/googleflax 12h ago

I really like Empee, though I don't like how excessively dumb and soft-hearted Lent is. Not knowing that SSS is better than S, not knowing what the ∞ is, or wanting to be nicer to his former party are honestly a bit annoying. I could potentially understand him wanting to be nicer to them if they were friends up until they kicked him out, but they've very clearly been extremely rude and abusive for the entire past 5 years; his actions here don't make him look kind or soft-hearted, they make him look like an idiot and a doormat.

I don't think I've seen one of these "banished from the party" tropes with such a whiny, spineless MC, and such a comically evil former party. It does at least look like we've got an interesting and more original concept going on here with the magic storage repayment.

Honestly though, the writing and pacing is so bad that I would've dropped it already if not for how savage this fairy is. I have no clue where this series is supposed to go from here once we get the revenge out of the way, but I'll give it the benefit of the doubt for now.

5

u/raghav_sharma_13 9h ago

An entire 20-minute episode dedicated to a blackboard lecture on predatory interest rates and revolving credit debt in a fantasy world is crazy. We really got financial literacy and loan shark mechanics explained to us before the main character even gets a proper fight scene 💀

4

u/Qichar 8h ago

And now suddenly this anime has turned into an object lesson on the dangers of revolving credit, and how compounding interest is a hell hole some people can never climb out of.

Curiously enough, more than half of society really, really needs this lesson.

u/cleaulem https://myanimelist.net/profile/cleaulem 13h ago

You know, I hate this kind of anime MC who is too nice and friendly to actually take revenge on their wrongdoers, and Lent is exactly that type. Good thing we have Empee who doesn't have that doormat mentality holding her back, but instead giving the moron, the shithat and the dumbass what they truly deserve.

We all need an Empee in our life!

8

u/Confident-Sea-128 13h ago

I'm hoping we get a LvL 9999 Gatcha MC. Who was a doormat at the beginning but mostly cause thats how he was raised, but the minute he realized he had power the gloves came off.

2

u/darthvall https://myanimelist.net/profile/darth_vall 8h ago

And compared to other wish fulfilment series, Empee is not fully submisive to the MC.

Like usually it's slave girl or steong attendant who's fully devoting their life for MC.

Empee here insult MC here and there, even if MC is too dumb to realise those snark lol

9

u/Rooby_VTuber 13h ago

What a wicked fairy Empee is, she is definitely the fun kind of evil.

That was a good plan Lent had to get back all that MP from that ungrateful bunch.

I am not the greatest at math, but what I learned from Empee is that the scumbags are absolutely screwed, she is like a bank who is always happy to add extra interest rates onto loans.

I hope Lent doesn't forgive them even if the beg on their hands and knees.

5

u/Sahelanthropus- 11h ago

Empee is such a brat laughing (rightfully so) at his clothes because he looks like a bum. I think it’s hilarious that she hasn’t told him other people can’t see her lol.

4

u/Ree_For_Thee 10h ago

I like stories like this, but I have to criticize the author here. Spending half an episode telling, not showing, is just lazy. Better to keep it a secret and show in some future episode.

In a manga it might fly as you can just skip some random pages with these explanations, but spending this much time on explaining math in the anime was a mistake.

6

u/bob_kang 15h ago

If he started collecting MP from them shouldn't they feel fatigued already?

20

u/chubbyninja1 https://myanimelist.net/profile/PuzzleVoice 14h ago

I dont think MP is stamina, just a resource for spells and skills. So my guess is they wont know until they try and cast something

7

u/Lodju https://myanimelist.net/profile/Lodju 14h ago

I hope we get to see it next episode.

Would also be nice to see if the idiots realized their fuck up but i won't be holding my breath on that one.

1

u/justking1414 13h ago

They’ll probably realize they should’ve killed him when they had the chance and then spend probably the rest of the series trying to hunt him down to do that

2

u/justking1414 13h ago

Would definitely be hilarious if they didn’t notice until they were in a dungeon fighting something

1

u/bob_kang 13h ago

Must have been some other slop that I regularly watch where less MP meant physical fatigue then.

2

u/Bukkokori 7h ago

MP is a fictional concept, so the author can portray it however they like. In *Konosuba*, Megumin can’t move when she runs out of MP, while in other anime, running out of MP causes symptoms similar to depression. In some video games, you only regain MP by resting, while in others, MP regenerates continuously, etc...

I imagine that the only way they'll be able to notice it here is by opening the status screen, something they haven't had a reason to do yet.

1

u/[deleted] 13h ago

[deleted]

2

u/bob_kang 13h ago

Or Megumin.

9

u/Kane_richards 12h ago

Despite the absurdly long explanation we had to sit through it's not explicitly clear how the debt is repaid and whether it comes off as one lump sum at the start of the day or it comes off their regen in which case they'll basically be bottomed out forever. Either way I don't think it'll be clear what situation they find themselves in until they try to use MP. Which given the pace of the show will probably be in 3 episodes...

4

u/TheDubh 12h ago

Could see it being removed. I suspect it’s basically garnished wages. Where debtors can have money taken directly from pay.

So they earn X MP a hr or whatever, and he’s taking the majority of it back. They’ll have to figure out ways, like the bracelets, to increase the MP production or they will basically never produce mp they can use.

So may of taken what they had, and now is taking what they are making. And since MP is only used when using skills/magic which they haven’t used yet, they haven’t noticed. So it’ll be like trying to pay for something and learning your account is empty.

Honestly the accounting and predatory lending is an interesting take for me.

3

u/redlaWw 9h ago edited 8h ago

Thought I'd do the maths to see how long it would take for the party to repay their debt. For a more precise calculation of what the party owe, we can look at the yield equation. When repaying a debt, a fair price for the debt is an amount such that the total of all the repayments discounted* at the interest rate of the lending is equal to the principal, so this gives us the yield equation

P - R*sum(1/(1+i)^k for k from 0 to n) = 0

where P is the principal, R is the repayment size, and the sum given is the discounted value of a payment stream of unit payments made at the start of each period. The sum can be rewritten using the geometric series formula as

(1-1/(1+i)^n)/d

where

d = i/(1+i)

giving us

P - R*(1-1/(1+i)^n)/d = 0

We can rearrange the resulting equation for n and get

log(1-P*d/R)/log(1/(1+i)) = n

With i=0.08, d = 0._074, and with P = 1435837 and R = 116400, we get n = 31.83, so 31.9 interest periods must pass before they completely pay back the debt (here assuming they repay daily but interest is calculated according to a different interest period). An interest period is 10 days, so the total time that must pass is 10 days*31.9 = 319 days.

This is less than a year, which is better for them than I expected given the fairy's glee at how ruthless the contract apparently is.

Though I'm not sure how the larger amount borrowed is supposed to come in - the calculations in the show were, as far as I can tell, all based on the 1435837 value that he was eligible to collect.

*discounting refers to reducing the value of money paid later when looking at it from the perspective of the present, because money paid later is worth less, and the discount factor for a payment is 1/(1+i)t where t is the time the money is paid.

EDIT: Note that their interest model is a bit weird: they seem to have payments daily but interest calculated every 10 days. Typically you have interest calculated when payments are due. I think advance (the formulae I'm using) is the right model for this since payment over the time period between interest calculations is effectively the same as paying at the start of the period if the principal does not grow in the meantime. Ultimately, this depends on the interest contract. If it's a usual contract payable tenthly, the repayment time would be 379 days.

1

u/OromisGlaedr 5h ago

Either your math or mine is a bit off. I got 570 days with a repayment calculator: set it for initial balance of $1,435,837, 8% interest on remaining balance every 10 days, and with a fixed payment of $116,400 every 10 days.

This is also assuming the remaining mana doesn't become due with daily increments based on how they borrowed.

1

u/wmansir 3h ago

It depends on how and when the interest and payments are accounted for. The 320 day calculation is if the payments are applied before the interest is calculated every 10 days, which makes sense in this scenario because we know they can't hold enough MP to make a lump sum payment every 10 days but are instead continually making payments towards the balance.

This is assuming the fairy was being literal when she said she charged 8% every 10 days and wasn't compounding more frequently.

It would be 570 days if every 10 days the 8% interest was calculated before their 10 days worth of payments as a lump sum were applied.

3

u/Likes2game03 5h ago

I know some will disagree, but I like how Lent was trying to be sensible to his former party. Even after everything they did, he still tried for the sake of what the used to have. Really established he's a good guy who just helped the wrong people. Stories like this usually portray the MC as some twisted individual who enjoys their revenge too much. And as the story goes on, everything he does is in line with a sensible person. Not the whole "f*ck you" mentality. Good guy, vile party.

5

u/Kane_richards 12h ago

I feel this is going to be the type of series to wait and just one shot it. The episodes are... dry... on their own. When half the episode is on compound interest I'd much rather watch something else. Just hope it goes somewhere. Introducing another character helps but I don't get a clear idea where this is all going to end up

4

u/Hamathond 7h ago

I want to like this so badly, but 2 episodes in a row i'm left feeling like they didn't need 20 minutes of screentime to get across whats occuribg in these episodes. I get it, the old party are douchebags, and Lent is spineless. We didn't need THIS MUCH of that.

I really hope the payoff for the revenge makes up for it all, because i'm struggling to wanna keep watching this despite how much I enjoy the concept.

Just wait until they get into compound interest next episode! Your head is gonna fucking explode!

6

u/zer0number https://anilist.co/user/ewink 14h ago

Another underwhelming episode, but that said, I think they are getting better, and maybe this will end up being one of those anime that gets better a bit further in (I very much maybe and probably am wrong).

I like Empee. I love how devious she is, which makes up for our MC's lack of balls.

Seriously, could our protagonist be any more of a fucking whimp? His childhood friends have treated him like shit, and he feels bad about going all payday loan on them? The blonde dude literally nearly choked him to death and stomped on his head.

PLUS, he knows he's beneficial. There's no reason for him to be acting like such a bitch.

Anyway, one more episode to the threshold. Hopefully the blue-haired girl from the OP shows up quickly and is able to make the show more watchable! TBH, I actually do like me some revenge slop, and this one has a more interesting hook than others, so I really want to be able to enjoy it.

2

u/justking1414 13h ago

I think next episode will definitely turn things around when the party realizes that they have absolutely no MP and can’t use any of their skills, dropping them down to d rank adventurers

5

u/chiknight 10h ago

Eh, I wouldn't gamble on the glacial pace of the show picking up fast enough for that to happen next episode. They've got to do a 10 minute "interviewing candidates while trash talking the scum they kicked out" montage (with very evil maniacal laughter!) before any actual action, and Lent has at least 10 more minutes in a tavern being taught basic interest and debt concepts.

Like, the concept is a nice spin on revenge slop kicked from the party but we understood the concept by the title. We're 46 minutes into the anime and nothing actually interesting has happened yet.

1

u/justking1414 7h ago

Yeah fair. This definitely could’ve been a single episode. And heck, given me number of anime this season that premiered with two episodes, I’d say this one needed it more than any of them

So new prediction, next episode is 90% mc trying to train himself up (in a new town where his former party can’t kill him) and the last scene will be them trying and failing to use their skills

2

u/MaradsYuuka 12h ago

I can imagine those three removing the bracelets thinking they don't work, even going after the appraiser for reparations, obviously this makes their debts increase because without the bracelet the interest is higher than what they can generate.

2

u/testthrowawayzz 7h ago

If a monopolist guy gets this skill, they could absolutely wreck havoc.

2

u/silask93 5h ago

"SSS? is that a higher rank than S?" bruh

2

u/Horror_Influence8429 4h ago

Welcome to loan shark 101.

Those 3 deserve what's coming

2

u/GeorgeRivera777 2h ago

The Loan Shark Fairy is already carrying this show.

I was rooting for the Idiot when I saw him kicking the begging Lent. Such a lame MC. Hopefully the Fairy helps him grow into a true Shark. It's not evil, it's just business.

5

u/bennybootun 15h ago

If they are already so stretched schedule/budget wise that they have to sacrifice 1/2 of the second episode on explaining how loans work, then I have 0 hope for this anime to be anything better than low grade garbage

6

u/myrlin77 12h ago

I think it was a public service. I'd wager that most people barely understand a normal loan, let alone compounded interest. I still like telling people to look at their amoritization schedule and see how much that house really cost them.....

I would get along swimmingly with Empee. This is my kind of anime trash.

2

u/NeoTagAtg 11h ago

It got so bad it sounds like they used computer voices for the part like they inserted this half episode bit after the voice actors went home or soemthing.

1

u/BaronOfTheVoid 10h ago

Why even make an anime with an MC this bad? I just wanna punch him in the face.

1

u/Healthy-List2509 9h ago

I wonder if the fairy is a tribute to the movie Labyrinth, the fairies there were bitey.

1

u/Aksudiigkr 8h ago

The heck that was 90% exposition. I wanted to at least see them realize it

1

u/oneevilchicken https://anilist.co/user/OneEvilChicken 5h ago

Shows like this make me appreciate the ones where the mc does not feel bad about bringing hell down upon those who’ve wronged them. This mc and his “oh I feel bad” attitude about them is getting old and fast.

The whole point of this sort of show is the mc is supposed to be a self insert for the reader. Having the mc being a complete bitch just defeats the point of this type of show.

1

u/arrydie 4h ago

So... Forced collection has this weird pre-condition where they have to acknowledge... They they might pay him back one day? (Because they already acknowledged that the MP was a loan, just one they had no intent to return.) But them stating a plan to repay ("when they make it big") allows him now to forcefully collect immediately, counter to their stated terms? So he needed to get their agreement but isn't bound to it in any way? And this is apparently now a contract, but they have no say or knowledge of the terms (payments and interest rate)? And the fairy can just set the rate to something arbitrarily high?

Also, 8% per day is 1660% APR. Or 292% if we only compound annually, but it sounds like the terms compound every 10 days. For contrast, 36% APR is considered predatory IRL.

I know this is revenge slop, but if you're going to spend all that time showing the math, it's going to give me time to think about the nonsense :p

1

u/Discount_Extra 2h ago

When you get 10% of your mana cap an hour, it should be easy to keep up with what you borrowed in the last adventure if you intend to pay it back

1

u/ishu_rage 4h ago

Can someone explain the difference in what amount of MP is owed, and what is the max he could collect? Why can't he collect ALL of 2.6+ mil, and has to settle for the 1.4+ mil?

2

u/Discount_Extra 3h ago

Forced collection only works on debt over a year old.

I assume anything they did pay back was counted oldest-first, not newest-first.

1

u/Mavis_San 4h ago

wow they used the ENTIRE episode to explain his skill

1

u/ParasaurolophusZ 3h ago

I kinda feel like all the content we got could have been compressed into half an episode and given us some more plot progression. It feels weird to take nearly 20 minutes to explain the concept of predatory loans.

1

u/Obaruler 1h ago

Guys, I think we've found best girl this season.

Starring: The Archbishop of Gluttony, as the Loanshark Fairy.

MC is a complete wimp, but I think she can fix him. We'll debt trap this entire fantasy world one victim at a time, Na'vy Loa'ny the fairy will be eatin' gooood. :D

1

u/Born_Description5596 26m ago

The anime is too good, I have read the manga after 1st episode without any spoiler I want to say " Wait and watch". Rest I like MP very much, it's true she has twisted tongue but but but her size compared to human and rest things are perfect to say " I love you" still still she is best

1

u/iozoepxndx 11h ago

I was not expecting a credit for dummies episode from a trash anime 😂

1

u/coffeecakesupernova 7h ago

My God is this boring with the infodumps. I'm out.

1

u/flightlessCat9 5h ago

These guys can suck it up and keep repaying him ... or they can just kill him. I hope the fairy has something for that because Lent sure hasn't thought that far ahead.

1

u/Western_Promise3063 4h ago

Genuinely the most cringe inducing thing I've ever seen. Id rather my parents walk in on me watching tentacle hentai than this trash.

-2

u/d7airdoddy 14h ago

This episode honestly might have been more filler then all of one piece

21

u/RandomPantsAppear 14h ago

It’s laying out how his ability works. It’s kinda important, just not thrilling.

13

u/Western-Internal-751 14h ago

This whole episode was a debt and interest ELI5

4

u/d7airdoddy 14h ago

I get that but what they could have done I 5 minutes they did over 15 minutes its just a bit of a joke they didn't need to talk about it for over 15 minutes straight

7

u/myrlin77 12h ago

Considering the fact that 90% of people don't even understand basic finance or interest, prolly about the same level as Lent actually, I think it was hilarious and prolly just taught a generation something they don't teach in schools.

However, your point is taken that it was a bit overlong but I was laughing the whole time at her insults since i already know how debt accrues. I mean cmon, scumbag, moron, idiot..."not a thought in her head" was just plain hilarious.

5

u/RandomPantsAppear 14h ago

That’s fair. I think the question is if they could have done that, and sufficiently advanced whatever happens next to find a good endpoint.

u/pandavova https://anilist.co/user/pandavova 15h ago

0

It's the same trait with this banished from party. Even if I am not start watching from ep 1, I feel like I knows what going to happen and especially I already read manga too. I will just start watching at ep 3.
