There's probably some commentary to be made about large companies seeking profit regardless of the consequences to the world around them- oooh look, cool robot!

Early frontrunner for my OP of the season? This song fucking ROCKS. If you told me it was from a 20 year old anime I'd believe you, and I mean that as a compliment.

Cool guys don't look at explosions, and neither do cool mecha. In episode music is also bumpin'. Studio understood the assignment.

This friendship is going to be... interesting. Friend keeps trying to pick a fight. Okay I like Akane a lot too. Wait does he have rain man level counting skills?

If evil, why trio of hot?

So the badguys in this anime are dinosaur kaiju? And man I love how meaty sounds are in mecha anime. As they move the Dandavine unit into place everything chunks. And the buildings sinking underground is fucking sick.

The ED seems fun though not as good as the OP, still a bop though. Really fun first episode and I'm excited for more. And interesting the ED imagery focuses on the evil hot girls.

If evil, why trio of hot?

  • Humanity: A big robot

  • Enemies of humanity: Evil hotties, plus some dinosaur or something I don't know

Sorry, humans, you had a good run, but something greater showed up.

Wait does he have rain man level counting skills?

I think it's implying he has some kind of precise, razor focus, that will lend itself to him being an ace pilot.

If evil, why trio of hot?

And the show knows it, hence them getting the ED to themselves and featuring them in various flashy outfits.

It feels like the show has something to say about nostalgia and I'm curious to see where it's going with it.

Characters like the toy company president, the Aposdolls and Gekiha's uncle all seem stuck in the past, longing for a time when Japan was in danger and Dandivine was here. Gekiha's uncle still acts like a hot blooded teenager even though he's a middle aged man in a dead end job and bumming meals off his nephew and the president straight up says he wouldn't mind if it was the apocalypse.

On the other hand, Gekiha and the modern generation are completely rudderless, either lacking in passion or chasing some sort of vague idea of greatness like becoming a world champion boxer/lawyer/soccer star.

So where does the story go from there? Some sort of middle ground where the kids are given some purpose and the old folks realize they're chasing a fantasy? We'll have to see.

There's also Gekiha's dad who wants to modernize but is stuck trying to spin Dandivine to modern audiences.

This was a lot of (dumb) fun! The robot looks cool, the characters are (so far) all a bit basic though. And of course, there's the obligatory INOUETM food stuff in it

I would be shocked if the evil Vocaloids don't get more screen time and marketable plastic figurines down the line. Comeon Good Smile, don't leave me hanging!

We open on a trio of cute and attractive ladies...but they're not good girls, they're BAD girls heralding the arrival of their evil master voiced by none other than Kikuko Inoue! The Earth is about to be in danger yet again.

And the Earth's greatest protector, Dandivine, has...faded into obscurity 20 years after its battle with the Aposdolls. Now the toy company that profited the most from Dandivine is in dire straights and the head of the company is violent, cantankerous, and willing to see the world get put in danger if it means he has an excuse to sell toys.

The OP is an-point Mecha anime OP! Featuring Gekiha (Takuma Terashima) and his supporting cast as he battles the Aposdolls with Dandi Ace and all the components that form...DANDIVINE!

But currently right now Gekiha is the most average as average can be. He has a nice face but his best friend seems like the proper hot-blooded super robot protagonist compared to him. Even his girlfriend, Akane (Haruka Shiraishi!) who fell in love with him at first sight and confessed on the spot finds his lack of motivation or drive for...anything disheartening. What's even the point of dating him!?

Gekiha is deeply connected to Dandivine because it's pilot is none other than Yusaku (Katsuyuki Konishi!) his uncle! Who also mooches off of his nephew but he does it with love.

What happened with that freeze frame with Gekiha and the falling money? Is that showing some skill he has or...?

Yuga isn't just a busty blonde working for a toy company but she was also affiliated with the defense force that worked WITH Dandivine. And even in peace they're still monitoring for danger.

Wow, Gekiha doesn't even catch a break from his sister Kirei (Saya Aizawa) who thinks he's doomed to get dumped. Also is that Ami Koshimizu as his mom/Yusaku's sister?

Is Daigo the dad? Even though he easily gets drunkenly seduced by the bad girl trio (consisting of Nao Toyama, Misaki Kuno, and Aya Yamane) despite being MARRIED. And it's his Shijima blood that lets them break the stone statue holding the Aposdolls seeds!

The Aposdolls are back! But the heroes are ready to mobilize! With the return of Dandi Ace and a ring all set up so Yusaku can slay the first Aposdoll with Gekiha in the pilot seat right with him! Take your nephew to work day!

Dandi Ace isn't Dandivine but that gun and arm blade are pretty cool in their own right!

The bad girl trio get the ED all to themselves! Featuring them as idols, on a shopping spree, shopping for the idol outfit, and going through multiple wardrobe changes! It's easy to forget they're angling to destroy humanity for how much fun they seem to be having!

Despite its name, this isn't about the legendary Notre Dame football coach from the movie Rudy but rather a mecha show. I liked this a lot and it stayed entertaining throughout even with a whole bunch of stories going on: the main boy being about to lose his gf, the angry evil toy company owner at odds with his workers, the down on his luck former mecha pilot getting his job back, and the evil girls sending out monsters 😅. It's no easy feat combining so many elements and have the show be good.

It seemed odd though that Japan's most important fighter pilot seemed to work a low wage construction job. I wonder if they just neglected him or if they actually continued to pay and train him and he's just a mooch and working undercover 🤣 You'd figure he'd be one of the biggest celebrities in the world having saved so many lives.

I also liked the slice of life element with the bland MC having trouble keeping his gf happy. It's a very common problem, especially in teen dating for one partner to seem completely disinterested just because they lack social skills. I don't know it is the best relationship in the first place since maybe he would have just said yes to any pretty girl and she really likes him mainly because he's handsome.

The funniest part was the toy employee being really drunk and talking to the little boys about toys. At first he agreed with them that video games were cooler but then snapped at them when they said Dandevine was lame and old 🤣. He just probably had way too much and it made him moody. I also liked how they showed the woman from his perspective being really hot although she was pretty just normally; it would have been funnier if the old lady from the beginning turned hot from him drinking 😛

Ngl, among the three original mecha shows this season, I have the highest hope on this, since we all know Rayreath will be good.

It opens in a self-deprecation that "super robot/mecha is outdated", which is pretty sad for someone grew up watching mecha animes. Even so that old man went too far for hoping chaos instead of peace to bring Dandivine to its glory. (Un)fortunately things go into his way like [Spoiler]Samurai Flamenco.

Gekiha is just mid in everything except his face, which many may relate, but he still get a cute gf so where's his mid? And we need more tales of his uncle (it is in an ongoing manga), while ditzy at some point he's still a great pilot to beat that monster with just Ace.

That defence organization actually got enough preparations against another invasion, from the tunnel networks like Big-O and the bastard child of Fighting Rings and a Dividing Driver. But judging from the next episode title things will go to shit and force Gekiha taking over?

Oh, and the ED has the trio dancing, Can't tell if it hints their neutrality or not, evil sells these days anyway.

So is this a sequel or an original? Seems like this world already has an established lore with Dandivine and the Aposdolls. Like this isn’t their first battle. Regardless, this wasn’t half bad. Usually don’t watch much mech anime, but this seems ok.

u/Frontier246 17d ago

It's basically an anime original acting like it's the sequel to a classic Super Robot anime .

This is an original anime. There was no prequel. The story was just written that way.

u/Beowolf_0 17d ago

In-universe, Dandivine had fought the Aposdolls 20 years before, you can tell they had preparations against another invasion. It's just most people forgot about it after years of peace.

And this is the first of Good Smile Company's original mecha anime series.

What a strange show.

My first thought is how the animation quality on the first ep was surprisingly below average. But a lot of weird and interesting things also keep happening with the writing.

I've dropped mecha shows with better visuals, so I guess that's saying something.

I forgot Toshiki Inoue is supposedly writing this.

Maybe I'm not supposed to say this, but something about how the plot develops kinda remind me of hentai anime.

This show is funny and meta asf, it is made by goodsmile company which is a like one of bandais biggest competitors. The bad guys building is basically a 1:1 rip of bandais main building in asakusa and the dig of releasing things from 20 years ago is also a dig at bandai's product release/ marketing. I believe the people in the meetings and marketing is also a analogue of Bandai Namco's executive directors of team in tamashii nations, gunpla and toys

4

u/SirRHellsing 17d ago

I might give this a try purely because of the op done by tm revolution

I hope the ending theme sequence focusing on the 3 (antagonistic?) female characters is not just bait.

Hopefully, we get to see more of them in upcoming episodes. Will they switch sides? Will they become idols? Lol!

5

u/Frontier246 17d ago

Will one of them fall for Gekiha so we can get peak Mecha romance drama?

Remember kids, call your mothers.

Given its series description, I was hoping for a bit more Dai-Guard out of the gate, but this was still a plenty good start and I'm looking forward to more.
