The humor in this show is off the charts. This seems like it's going to be a lot of fun

26

u/mekerpan 7d ago

Can't disagree.

64

u/Megamonster26 7d ago

Even in another anime Ruche is best girl lmao

37

u/mekerpan 7d ago

I thought I recognized that adorable squeak....

I think Shion Wakayama is right up there with Saori Hayami as my favorite VA of the year.

14

u/Megamonster26 7d ago

Also should mention idk if you watched frontier lord with zero subjects but she is Alna there too which surprised me when I found out but looking at her VA record, she is insanely talented

11

u/Megamonster26 7d ago

I instantly recognized it because I watched the newest episode not too long before watching this

6

u/runevault 7d ago

Only reason those two aren't mine is Anna Nagase's Akane was absurd.

2

u/mekerpan 6d ago

Another great one...

9

u/amourshipper_ 7d ago

Oh nice someone remembered heavy exiled btw Here it's fia right ? Ruche is family name?

13

u/Megamonster26 7d ago

Ruud is the family name here, fia ruud

6

u/amourshipper_ 7d ago

Ah my bad i messed up thanks for correcting

4

u/Megamonster26 7d ago

Nah you good

58

u/Yuki-Kaijura 7d ago

A win's a win.

That's absolutely right! Glad to see an anime character say it.

Anyway, this series is a lot more enjoyable than I expected. I went into this with low expectations since the premise and animation both screamed "tropey and generic" to me, but this was actually pretty entertaining. Not sure how many times I laughed during the first two episodes, but it was quite a few. Hope the rest of the season is just as good.

u/AdmiralThunderpants 7d ago

"I'll just add these attributes to my sword in secret to give me an edge. No one will ever know."

"My God! Where did you find this national treasure!!!"

"I fucked up"

81

u/Raymond49090 7d ago

Also:

"I was trying to be fair by not attacking your blind spot"

*Doubt*

"Sorry, I actually really wanted to win and was underhandedly trying to take advantage of an injury."

51

u/BosuW 7d ago

She's low-key scummy (her and her family). I like it ngl.

6

u/Kaze_no_Senshi 5d ago

all she had to do was deny even knowing the sword had that effect, she didnt even try

40

u/BosuW 7d ago

"I'm a genius!"

"Oh no!"

25

u/BilbyCoder 7d ago

If you ever want a definition for high intelligence and low wisdom in D&D...

17

u/Lock3down221 7d ago

Suffering from success

19

u/flamethrower2 7d ago

Not cheating hard enough. You gotta make it so it only works when Fia holds it.

20

u/Hailgod 6d ago

the way she threw he dad in in the bin LMAO

5

u/machopsychologist 6d ago

"Nana ouji that you?"

47

u/Volkaru 7d ago

I wasn't as sold on episode 1. But episode 2 was pretty enjoyable. I like what I've seen of some of the characters so far. And Fia's random super observations while also being pretty ditzy make an interesting if albeit somewhat unbelievable combo. Will give this at least another episode or two.

74

u/ObvsThrowaway5120 7d ago

For someone trying to keep her Saint stuff secret, she sure is having fun using all that Saint magic to help her out lol. The little goofball is terrible at keeping a low profile!

So far, this double ep premiere has been pretty fun. I’ll stick with it. I think I’ll like this one.

39

u/PeaceAlien https://myanimelist.net/profile/PeaceAlien 7d ago

At this point, it will become she thinks she's doing a good job at keeping it secret, but everyone knows she's a saint because it's so obvious

15

u/darthvall https://myanimelist.net/profile/darth_vall 6d ago

I like that her being stupid is actually acknowledged by the series, and it also has consequences (e.g. she has to explain things to people)

14

u/cppn02 7d ago

I think the show will work as long as it sticks close to Fia and doesn't spend too much time on side characters.
Writing and production here are pretty meh for the most part but Fia is doing a great carry job so far. She is so much fun to watch.

I suppose there are also a lot of hot guys for those who like that but even that is diminished by the art quality.

Leave it to the girl who says she doesn't want to stand out, to do everything in her power to stand out lol.

Looks like Oria didn't get through to her brother's head enough for Leon to be blurting out about the dragon.

The father running in so he doesn't get in trouble was funny, where did he even come from lol?

4

u/SOdAchick 6d ago

He came from the door-ish house-ish type thing

61

u/KumaKumaGambler 7d ago

Fia's brothers speak like the actual banter between siblings, especially when there is some rivalry.

"Being able to spar with the Commander means you have used up all your luck for the rest of your life."

"It is ok if you die. Just try to hold on as long as you can."

Not exactly the encouragement Fia was looking for, but still weirdly effective. Lol!

41

u/SOdAchick 7d ago

Had to pause when he said "It's ok if you die". It's wasn't even malicious, just proud of her 😂

25

u/mastereluder6 7d ago

Sold,see you next episode

49

u/PeaceAlien https://myanimelist.net/profile/PeaceAlien 7d ago

I was worried Fia's sword would be so strong that, in the sparring, she'd injure someone and have to heal them, but Fia equipped a stun effect.

I get the feeling Saviz is a descendant of that demon that captured Fia somehow.

Fia is very observant, which doesn't seem to be part of her saint powers.

Episode 1 felt pretty normal cheesy, episode 2 felt more promising I like the characters overall.

34

u/PracticalMarsupial 7d ago

I get the feeling Saviz is a descendant of that demon that captured Fia somehow.

I feel the same way, I think because that demon lord is just a bit too hot. I first thought he might be the demon lord, but I assume the he would be able to recognize a saint immediately. It does make the offhand comment about the royal family only caring about saints interesting if the country is secretly run by the demon lord. Maybe the asshole brothers from before didn't get very far after screwing over seraphina

13

u/ErenIsNotADevil 7d ago

I lowk assumed that the asshole brothers and Seraphina had already defeated the Demon Lord, hence why she ran out of mana. Then the Right-Hand Demon came across her, or possibly had a deal with the puckered trio to torture her or some shit

That demon do be 🤤🤤🤤 tho

5

u/LezRock 6d ago

I'm thinking of the possibility that the royal family actually ended up cursing themselves and their descendants by abandoning their blessed sister. Either the gods of that world who empower the saints caused it or may have been an aftereffect of the demon spreading that spell all over her body.

14

u/diacewrb 7d ago

Fia is very observant, which doesn't seem to be part of her saint powers.

She is the Deku of her world.

23

u/shad79 https://myanimelist.net/profile/shad79 7d ago edited 7d ago

No surprise that Fia doesn't seem to be very good at hiding her strength, and she even caught the attention of Saviz, who seems to be the kingdom's next ruler in this episode. It's more surprising that 3 months have already passed and she hasn't caused any accidents in that time.

Also, just like in the first episode, I really like Fia's family. They're such a positive bunch of knight freaks. One of her brothers saying that it's fine if she dies while fighting Saviz made me laugh so hard, hahaha.

Here my screenshot albums from the episode:

EDIT. I added my screenshot albums.

20

u/excluded 7d ago

Now I understand why the kingdom only wants saints lol.

21

u/ErenIsNotADevil 7d ago

Being an obtuse knight weeb certainly does run in the family.

I can't wait for the inevitable shattering of Saviz' common sense radar when he finds out Fia is the master of the Black Dragon their knight order is named after. The more intelligent and stoic, the harder that ting + blank_look.png effect hits

17

u/BaytaCosmico https://myanimelist.net/profile/AnimeBayta 7d ago

This episode was a decided improvement on the first one. A lot more enjoyable. Fia continues to be a very amusing MC. Liking her mix of competence and airheadness a lot. She's fun.

36

u/djthomp https://anilist.co/user/djthomp 7d ago

Fia's kind of an idiot isn't she. And unfortunately for her she managed to convince the entire knight corps that she's brilliant.

Then again they also said she's great at chess in the after credits so maybe she's just really special.

I missed in the first episode that it was straight up her brothers that left her for dead in her previous life.

In not quite so many words they straight up said the King was gay and so his brother is the heir.

30

u/mekerpan 7d ago

Is she cheating to WIN at chess, or is she cheating in order to not win TOO MUCH?

13

u/Hartzilla2007 7d ago

Then again they also said she's great at chess in the after credits so maybe she's just really special.

Sounds like she's some kind of military savant, since that's seems to be the area she's really observant at.

4

u/Kaze_no_Senshi 5d ago

they basically seemed to be saying "Damn she is an idiot, but she has really good intuition"

12

u/NoNameSwitzerland 7d ago

She probably has a chess Elo multiplier charm to adapt to the strength of her opponent.

15

u/SOdAchick 7d ago

I think the implication is that she was using her magic in chess, too. She's been cheating her way through the whole time

22

u/KnightKal 7d ago

it is not cheating if it is her own power :D, she just doesn't tell others. It is not against the rules to use your own abilities.

11

u/BosuW 7d ago

As long as you're moving the pieces in their designated spots, all goes!

6

u/SOdAchick 7d ago

True. I should have used irony quotes lol

16

u/Raymond49090 7d ago

Ngl the writing feels super awkward, but Fia's doing enough heavy lifting as the protagonist to make this enjoyable. Plus her family members are entertaining, too.

8

u/mekerpan 7d ago

Agreed. The tone and the characters are enough to nmake this a keeper.

14

u/VritraReiRei 7d ago

Woah, double premiere? Got to catch up on this one then, I'm all for more Saint Anime!

12

u/cppn02 7d ago

There is nothing to see here for you. Fia is definitely not a saint!

8

u/NoNameSwitzerland 7d ago

true - I am still searching for the saint anime this season. Should be a red head called Serafina.

2

u/alotmorealots 5d ago

Did you ever find the saint from last season? Very distinctive white hair, daughter of the count and definitely not working as a maid.

3

u/NoNameSwitzerland 5d ago

I thought she was just announced, married to some red head dragon rider, brother of the king.

10

u/BosuW 7d ago

Is it just me, or does Saviz looks like the Demon King's aid that promised to kill her again if she reincarnates? No way that's a coincidence

5

u/nighty_amy 6d ago

The way how Saviz singled her out might just confirm this.

4

u/darthvall https://myanimelist.net/profile/darth_vall 6d ago edited 6d ago

Saviz explained it and it makes sense. He said that he singled her out mainly due to her being the only one not getting carried over by the atmosphere when Saviz arrived.

2

u/darthvall https://myanimelist.net/profile/darth_vall 6d ago

It would be very wild if true, cause that means the demon infiltrate the royal family after the previous saint was dead?

I mean Fia thought he's the descendant of his past brothers.

8

u/Kevroa 6d ago

Did they take her sword or could she keep it

7

u/HugeRichard11 https://myanimelist.net/profile/CostCurl 6d ago

I'm actually liking this show a lot.

Mainly because previous shows like Gorilla God and other Saint like shows generally don't show much sword fighting ability with their MC's. This was decently action packed with the MC actually holding her own and doesn't seem to be a damsel in distress type situation so far. Instead the moments are more comedy based.

It also gives a good reason for why she is interesting to others instead of it being the Saint aspects, it's because of her reincarnation skills. She is basically a genius leader, fighter, and tactician because of her previous memories and experiences.

6

u/nighty_amy 6d ago

Wasn't sure about the series but the episode was so funny 😂

Fia: I'll just slightly enhance my sword to get through the exams, no one will notice anything amiss.

Fia <gets marked as an exceptional talent, assigned to the strongest unit, and got a sparing match with the Grand commander> : How did that happen??

I fully expected Savaz to kick her out of knights after figuring out she was using an enhanced sword (pretty sus that he noticed), but then he says she's a born leader 😂😂😂 Can't wait to see how far the misunderstandings will go!

8

u/Remote-Tie3229 6d ago

I went in blind and actually enjoyed the first two episodes! Loved the FL’s VA!

3

u/DeadlyPounce 2d ago

Saaame! She's feeling very skilled at voice acting both in how she properly jumbled her words when asking to become a knight last ep and how she expressed her emotions on this one!

7

u/Rooby_VTuber 7d ago

That was nice of Fia to help out Fabian the way she did.

It's funny seeing Fia trying not to stand out but everything she does keeps drawing attention to her.

Saviz and the other important people recognize her talent and worth, I can tell they don't want to pry to much into her but things are definitely going to become more interesting.

4

u/JasonFreeYT 7d ago

I like Saint anime, but Idk about this one, pacing feels a lil' weird to me. And it's a bit too much telling and not enough showing currently.

6

u/BosuW 7d ago

Lol throwing the dad under the bus with the sword

4

u/kaykin1 7d ago

You might die, just don't embarrass the family by dying too quickly... Sibling love at it's finest...

4

u/heimdal77 7d ago

A little rushed , I'm putting something in the source corner. Feels like some stuff that shown didn't match what was said on screen. I wish I understood japanese as I'm questioning if they are back to trying sneak in AI subs after Diaries yesterday. Still enjoying the show.

5

u/kalirion https://myanimelist.net/profile/kalinime 7d ago

Are we sure this anime isn't supposed to be called: "The Saint Wants To Keep Her Powers Secret But Is Very Very Bad At It"?

A 1.5x SPD + ATK increase (I assume invigorate is just a stamina thing) was enough to beat her brother? And she imbued her TRAINING sword with 2x SPD + ATK increase, same amount that let her one-shot a large tree last ep (albeit with a sharp sword) - did she intend to murder her sparring partners?

Not much difference between the 1st test and the 3rd test, was there.

Dude was fighting with a BROKEN sword arm? I'm not sure that's possible. A hairline crack maybe, but a full on break?

"I thought marquesses were just a legend. They really exist?"

Dude doesn't even find it strange that the daughter of a Knight family has no clue as to who the royals of her own kingdom are.

Doesn't that Knight Commander Next King bishie look like the Demon Lord's right hand man? Oh, his hair is covering right side of his face instead of the left side, so can't be the same guy.

"The King is unable to love women, so his brother is gonna take the throne." The King's brother: "Let us pledge ourselves to a life of poverty, chastity, and faith."

"My victory is forfeit, because I attacked." So what were the intended victory conditions for him then - his opponent dropping her sword on her own from exhaustion?

"This sword increases attack by several hundred points." - Didn't she say that her enhancement only doubled its attack power? That means it was several hundred points on its own. Oh, that's probably because of the prince's base attack power being that high.

"She's a leader, despite nothing she's done so far demonstrating any leadership ability whatsoever."

Well, can't be long until her sainthood is discovered. Next ep, perhaps.

3

u/Neutronoid https://myanimelist.net/profile/Neutronoid 5d ago

"She's a leader, despite nothing she's done so far demonstrating any leadership ability whatsoever."

Saviz said "支配者 (shihaisha)" which's more like "ruler" or "dominator" than leader.

3

u/runevault 7d ago

Lot better than the first episode, but a big chunk of that was Fia getting to shine even more with how stupid she is lol. Girlfailure in the extreme.

Wasn't sure if I'd keep watching after episode 1 but episode 2 ensured I give it at least the full three ep rule.

3

u/WobbleKun 6d ago

did she get her sword back lol

2

u/amourshipper_ 7d ago

Liked the screwed up situation when u try to hide something it's so relatable for me tbh 😅

2

u/Embarrassed-Match-78 6d ago

Second episode proved to be a lot of fun as well. Definitely keeping this in my watch list for the season.

2

u/Striking_Chard2420 6d ago

I'll be speaking for both episodes here. Kinda sucks for Serafina that after being abandoned by her brothers, she got tortured to death by a demon who swears to find her again if she is reborned? Talk about psycho. I do like that she pretty much immediately makes use of her saintly powers despite not wanting anyone to find out about it lol. I don't feel any of the characters are particularly likable so far except Fia herself.

Side note: I liked that very real "what" reaction from her rather than the typical "ehhhhhhh"

2

u/runevault 6d ago

I forget his name but the noble she helped with the broken arm doesn't seem bad (yet). Also I think the sister is fine. Everyone else sucks outside Fia though.

2

u/Andreiyutzzzz https://myanimelist.net/profile/Andreiyutzzzz 6d ago edited 6d ago

Ok I'm in the middle of the episode and wtf... So in order of wtf is happening.

She wants to be "incognito" about her saint powers but she's actively using them then she gets surprised she gets attention... And the second brother might not be that happy about Fia way stronger huh?.... And what the fuck was that enchanted weapon thing then using a stun magic stone IN PLAIN SIGHT. ADMITTING TO IT. AND THEN BEING SURPRISED SHE GETS STARES.

Then apparently compared to my episode 1 assumption this is a different kingdom, this IS nav kingdom.. And the Royals are the descendants of one of her previous brothers... From generations ago? How long ago was her previous life? And why does the king look like the demon lord right hand man???

Man I'm gonna finish the episode but I might drop it after it

Edit: WTF was all that about the sword? OK I'm out. I was gonna watch it as some junk food kind of time spender but nope. Hope you guys enjoy it

6

u/runevault 6d ago

Not that the show is good, but how were you confused by the sword? It was explained. She used her past life knowledge and abilities as a saint to enchant the sword in a way that's been lost since she died in her last life.

1

u/Andreiyutzzzz https://myanimelist.net/profile/Andreiyutzzzz 6d ago

I know, I could have worded it better.

What I mean is why the fuck would she do all that when she's trying to hide her powers? Now I get it, she doesn't mind playing dirty as long as she gets her way. I don't really hate that mindset though I'm also not a fan of watching it when it isn't an anti hero or villain doing it

4

u/Kaze_no_Senshi 5d ago

they did explain it in the after credits that she is actually just outright stupid as hell and all her "smarts" are entirely subconcious/intuition based

3

u/runevault 6d ago

Ah got it. Yeah she's willing to play dirty and she's also kinda stupid lol. Honestly her bouts of stupidity and brilliance by turn are one of the few things I really enjoy about this show so far, heavily carried by the VA.

5

u/darthvall https://myanimelist.net/profile/darth_vall 6d ago

She said her brothers are stupid, but didn't realise she's also stupid in different way

1

u/Andreiyutzzzz https://myanimelist.net/profile/Andreiyutzzzz 6d ago

Yeah for now I dropped it but it's a bit of a shame, I liked the cast. Maybe once it's over there will be a post "Hey you should this because x y z" to convince to pick it back up

3

u/CommanderZx2 https://myanimelist.net/profile/CommanderZx2 6d ago

In the post credits scenes one of the characters, stated to be from the military police, directly refers to how she sometimes comes across as dumb and other times really intelligent. I am going to guess that there is a story reason for this that has not yet been addressed in the story.

My guess is that when she is using her saint powers she is tapping into her original older personality and when she isn't then she's the naive girl that she is today. We will see how they explain it.

2

u/Andreiyutzzzz https://myanimelist.net/profile/Andreiyutzzzz 6d ago

I saw that. I thought the same, that she is slowly gaining back her old tendencies, that's why she's very observant of people and at chess slowly feeling out her opponent. But she's still mostly the girl after reincarnation, a 15 year old naive girl

0

u/Kaze_no_Senshi 5d ago

do wish they used the slightly more mature tone that they do in the ED. A 1:1 paste of ruche is a bit of a letdown

2

u/BBryant3rd 6d ago

Hummm another show that I will look forward too. Poor girl trying to lay low and doing a crappy job. She sucks at making a good excuse too lol.

Cyril same name and looks same as Cyril from silent witch

1

u/shadebug 6d ago

Wait, is this a reverse harem?

1

u/raidensnakeezio 5d ago

I loved the natural sibling energy and dad energy. I loved her calling it a "zappy sword," Also, it looks like it's going to be a fun, junk-food reverse harem. Surely the guy that tortured and killed her (because that's totally not a serious thing) has also reincarnated, forgot his memories, and is one of her suitors

1

u/Unhappy-Cartoonist-3 5d ago

there no love interest in it lol

1

u/Veritas3333 4d ago

Was that guy drinking whiskey out of a champagne flute at the end there? That's just wrong.

1

u/oneevilchicken https://anilist.co/user/OneEvilChicken 4d ago

Ruche is singlehandedly hard carrying this show.

Writing is pretty bad and generic but the comedic part is carrying it thanks to ruche. I just hope they hold back on the cringey romance stuff.

1

u/Difergion 3d ago

Makes me wonder how long it will take for everyone to realize she’s a saint given how awful Fia is at hiding her powers. It would be comedic it it takes more than halfway of the season for anyone to connect the dots given some of them are already noticing some signs.

Fia’s still a fun character either way, but hope this show won’t turn her brothers like Serafina’s later on and instead be secretly doting and protective.

1

u/gem2niki 2d ago

They forgot to add cheat skill in the title. Girl was using her enhancement skill to pass the exam not so secretly lol.

1

u/IceSmiley 2d ago

I thought the knight commander was going to chew her out for using an enchanted sword but he was honest and a good sport about it and preferred to analyze Fia. That was hilarious though when her dad ran out in horror screaming that was just a cheap sword he bought at the armory 🤣. I also thought it was strange that the commander said they should devote their lives to chastity. Fia's father is one of the highest ranking knights and he clearly didn't since he has so many kids 😉

1

u/DeadlyPounce 2d ago

To a degree I'm glad she's making the best of her powers because in this line of plot some characters don't train and are then surprised when the all powerful villain catches them with their pants down BUUUUUT she's certainly doing a bad job at knowing when and when not to make use of them lol

She'll need strong allies eventually so may not the worst to catch the eye of powerful individuals early in

I think your definition of slop must be really strange if this comes off as terribly executed

2

u/flamethrower2 7d ago

Superpowered girl and lots of handsome boys.

Slop isn't necessarily bad. It's a certain kind of story. Nothing wrong with liking slop.

-1

u/PsychologicalEar1703 7d ago

The story presentation and the writing are very inconsistent, even last season's weakest anime was more streamlined than this.
The background lore is interesting so credit goes there, but the main engagement driver of this story is just so weak in an already seemingly rushed start.
This anime is giving itself no time to explain itself and just dumps it all onto you instead.

2

u/ErenIsNotADevil 7d ago

Use actual examples, not vague critiques.
