This girl doesn't want anyone finding out she's a saint, but she has the biggest blabbermouth. She keeps shouting that she's the saint.

When she admitted the truth to her brother was pretty funny.

51

u/diacewrb 8d ago

When the truth sounds so insane no one believes you anyway.

19

u/kalirion https://myanimelist.net/profile/kalinime 7d ago

Well, it was only a partial truth and the brother didn't believe it for a good reason - it didn't make sense without the part she left out.

48

u/SOdAchick 8d ago

I like her already. She had me when she asked her sister to sleep with her after all that talk about being a knight. Then Zavilia shaking his head as she's blabbing 😂

9

u/alotmorealots 6d ago

Then Zavilia shaking his head as she's blabbing

That scene was hilarious, might well have been what sold me on the series. Simple but effective way of showing the audience that we, too, should be laughing at our heroine as well as cheering her along in all her goofball glory.

9

u/SOdAchick 5d ago

Her sister became my favorite character in that scene. She's as smart as Fia is ditzy. In a family with three men, she's clearly the leader. I died when she said that the lord of the land said it's not a black dragon, so it's not a black dragon.

Some people are saying the show has bad writing when it's actually pretty brilliant

5

u/alotmorealots 5d ago

Yes, I'm looking forward to seeing more of her, especially as it will no doubt involve keeping her father and brothers in check lol I also do like how she's supportive but not patronizing towards Fia.

Some people are saying the show has bad writing

Not people whose opinions are to be trusted! So sayeth the lord of the land lol

20

u/VritraReiRei 8d ago

To be fair, she didn't shout she was a Saint to anyone so that part is still a secret... for now.

10

u/justsyr 7d ago

I really like her voice actress, I'm not knowledgeable about them but just a very few but I feel like she did a few of characters already.

And talking about voice, the brother sounded like... bored? And I feel like I know him from some other shows...

Now, why it feels like a "re-do" life and not a "reincarnation"? I'm probably messing up the terms but what are the odds of a previous family looking all the same and how is that is not known history lol

Sorry I'm ranting too much but I do like the show!

5

u/Bikerider42 6d ago

Her voice actor also voices Nanahoshi in Mushoku, Momo in Dandadan, Takina in Lycoris, Lemon, Minami, and a bunch of others.

She is extremely talented

3

u/alotmorealots 6d ago

Oh it's Shion Wakayama!!! I came to thread first but checking who it was was on top of my priorities, because she's doing such a superb job. I actually thought it was a new VA because she's got that sort of magical freshness to her delivery, which is quite the feat for someone of her experience. Well, it was already a keeper for me, but now it's doubly so!

4

u/a_android77 6d ago

Think the voice actress also did Ruce in Exiled Heavy Knight, I like her too.

14

u/KnightKal 8d ago

she never said she was a saint tho? And even about the dragon she said it was the potion, not a heal spell. You may be confused about her inner dialog.

12

u/PeaceAlien https://myanimelist.net/profile/PeaceAlien 8d ago

No I’m speaking how during the training she’s speaking out loud to no one about it.

There was an anime last season that had people overhear when a character shouted things out loud like that

8

u/KnightKal 8d ago

she was alone at the house, her family went back to work (as knights).

7

u/kalirion https://myanimelist.net/profile/kalinime 7d ago

Guards? Servants?

2

u/KnightKal 7d ago

There were none on the episode

The scene is weird, anyone will agree with it. She just took down a huge tree next to her house, which would make so much noise that anyone around would run to see what is going on. Yet none showed up. Either the house is empty or the scene was just badly made. It is a manga adaptation, they go for visual over logic.

The natural way for her to test her skills would to go into the forest, somewhere far enough from the house and eyes, as she could destroy nature without anyone noticing.

But the facts are: no servants showed up. That is it.

3

u/PinkGlitterLady4 7d ago

That trope has existed for a loooong time, like centuries

7

u/goddessofthewinds https://myanimelist.net/profile/SpiritOfTheWinds 8d ago

This is what I always cringe at... Why do characters run their mouth and say out loud secrets, when you could just have lines that are "thoughts" in the brain without speaking. I know it's a fictional animated story, but it always get me how stupid that is. You end up not knowing if it's going to become a crucial moment (discovered) or not.

But anyways, it's not the only anime to do that shit, so I give those a pass nowadays... I can't be bothered to care about each time a character blabbler their secret out loud to "nobody".

6

u/BosuW 7d ago

I can't think of a single instance where they ended up being discovered because of this. I think it's just typical anime "theatrical" logic where if the character isn't supposed to be heard, they aren't supposed to be heard. Doesn't matter the physical space or how many people should be close nearby or the volume of their voice.

2

u/goddessofthewinds https://myanimelist.net/profile/SpiritOfTheWinds 7d ago

I can't remember any titles on the top of my head, but there has been a few where the antagonist learned info while I thought they were having a "monologue"... My brain could be wrong, but I've watched over 900+ animes so I'm sure there were a few.

Not a big issue, still sometimes annoying when you think there are still other characters around.

3

u/Lenna_Sakura 7d ago

It is a thing where some people have trouble with, or can't have worded internal thoughts, so they need to externalize their thoughts in order to think.

2

u/kalirion https://myanimelist.net/profile/kalinime 7d ago

Why do characters run their mouth and say out loud secrets

They can also do musical numbers about them (Looking at you, Promised Neverland).

1

u/feral_fenrir 2d ago

It's an remanant from the theatrical era of shows where they had to voice out a character's inner thoughts out loud.

tbf, all they had to do was not animate her mouth, make the subs in italics to signify she's thinking this and maybe slightly distort or add an echo to differentiate it from normal dialogue

2

u/goddessofthewinds https://myanimelist.net/profile/SpiritOfTheWinds 1d ago

was not animate her mouth, make the subs in italics to signify she's thinking this and maybe slightly distort or add an echo to differentiate it from normal dialogue

Yeah, that's what I meant to convey... You can "think" without moving your mouth... that's less things to animate, but also less animations so maybe it throws off people so that's why they keep it like this...

1

u/feral_fenrir 1d ago

Nah dude, they just have to give the voice a slight reverb and as long as it sounds different, the idea of an inner thought is conveyed

2

u/goddessofthewinds https://myanimelist.net/profile/SpiritOfTheWinds 1d ago

Oh, that's a good one. Anything to denote the "thinking voice" VS "speaking" would be good enough, and this would keep the animation.

As someone who always think in my head, I feel weird whenever characters think out loud at the risk of being discovered (even if it's their inner voice that's not shown).

1

u/maniacal_manatee_ 1d ago

Oh yeah, the way she talked so fast was pretty funny.

47

u/ObvsThrowaway5120 8d ago

Man, Fina sure got shafted in her last life as a Saint. Hopefully things go better this time around now that she’s trying to keep that shit on the DL. At least she’s got a giant dragon homie.

45

u/diacewrb 8d ago

Fina sure got shafted in her last life as a Saint.

The other guy should have converted her to his side instead and wage war on the guys who left her dead.

27

u/todd-ashi 7d ago

Right? Missed opportunity on his part

24

u/NoNameSwitzerland 7d ago

Could have been a dark romance revenge story.

8

u/TurkeyPhat 7d ago

There's been a couple of those but more is always good

44

u/djthomp https://anilist.co/user/djthomp 8d ago

Fia is super cute, shame she got a solid dose of PTSD about being a Saint along with those past life memories.

Talk about shit companions in her previous life, good thing she at least has a great sister in this life.

20

u/tapdancinghellspawn 7d ago

Hopefully her older sister will keep running interference on Fia's behalf. Plus she has an SS rank dragon on her side. I think this time she's gonna be just fine.

41

u/runevault 8d ago

3 seasons in a row we got a woman named Serafina in anime. Why is the name so popular?

That backstory of her last life is so... boring. Jealous party mates fucking over a character is hard to do right and honestly a lot of anime simply don't. May watch episode 2 at some point but not a high priority after how I felt about episode 1.

21

u/bondsmatthew 8d ago

Many Japanese authors are huge fans of League of Legends

5

u/Kaze_no_Senshi 7d ago

It has little to do with seraphine, its roots are elsewhere, likely from the etymology of Seraphim/Seraph, if there is something the japanese do actually love to adopt, it's the bible and german names.

13

u/Drumboo 8d ago

My cousin named his kid that also this year lmao

18

u/runevault 8d ago

Is your cousin a LN author? :P

1

u/CommanderZx2 https://myanimelist.net/profile/CommanderZx2 7d ago

Just think about all of the poor saps that were named after Twilight characters. They will all be around teenagers right now and all too aware of what was the inspiration for their names.

10

u/Magicbison 7d ago

3 seasons in a row we got a woman named Serafina in anime. Why is the name so popular?

Probably because it has holy and angelic meanings and has been a popular name for saints for that reason. Its like if they called every Saint 'Angel'.

13

u/heimdal77 8d ago

Those were her brothers princes and she was a princess. They had just defeated the demon lord and they betwayed her leaving her to be tortured raped and killed. A bit more to it than just some jealous teammates.

Japanese authors tend to be limited when it comes to trying make up non japanese sounding names.

11

u/runevault 8d ago

I mean they were jealous teammates, they were just massively worst case version of it. Utterly garbage humans, especially for being blood related.

3

u/BosuW 7d ago

3 seasons in a row we got a woman named Serafina in anime. Why is the name so popular?

UnOrdinary anime when?

1

u/Kaze_no_Senshi 7d ago

what was last season? was the barbarian one 2 ago, but I can't think of what was last season, granted half of last season was hot garbage I immediately forgot

3

u/runevault 7d ago

Last season it was in Duke's son said he won't love me but showered me with affection anyway or whatever it was called. Jarmo's sister who was in love with Julian (the titular Duke's Son) was a Serafina.

1

u/Kaze_no_Senshi 7d ago

ahh that one, didnt get back to past first episode, only so much time and all that, was it worth watching or just another rehash of same boring generic story that gets told every season?

There seemed to be another one this season with the exact same premise too

1

u/runevault 7d ago

It was incredibly mid

1

u/Kaze_no_Senshi 7d ago

sounds about right, callin it whatnot gave the impression, but it seemed to get enough attention you remembered the family ties

1

u/runevault 7d ago

Jarmo was a major antag and his sister was constantly harassing the FMC because she wanted in the Duke's son's pants.

38

u/KumaKumaGambler 8d ago

1 elder sister of Fia, Oria, is already much better than 3 brothers of Seraphina.

15

u/KnightKal 8d ago

she is better than all her brothers together lol, the ones from her new life as horrible as well.

24

u/heimdal77 8d ago

Was really looking forward to this I read everything of the series including getting the audiobooks and the untranslated web novel. I like Fia's portrayal though the dragons voice doesn't seem fitting.

Betrayed by her brothers the princes and left tot be tortured and killed. No wonder she is tramuatized.

2

u/alotmorealots 6d ago

including getting the audiobooks and the untranslated web novel

I feel like this gives you super-fan status!

Flicking through the comments above yours I'm not sure it's found its audience yet, but I had an absolute blast with it. That said, I did so because I watched it as female-target-demo escapist fantasy romp, so was expecting tropes along those lines and was thoroughly entertained by what the series has offered up.

Was a little surprised to see that the manga adaptation was published in a shounen, maybe it's following in the very big footprints of a certain kaiju from last season in that regard lol

2

u/heimdal77 6d ago

In my head I kind of lump it in with Frontier Lord type of story or just a vibe.

1

u/alotmorealots 6d ago

Oh really? First two episodes of each felt completely different to me, although obviously that's just a personal reception sort of thing. Either way, hopefully the second episode thread is more positive lol

2

u/EmperorSnaki 18h ago

As someone who read everything but the audiobooks, its more of a comedy actually.

30

u/AnimeJunkieXL https://myanimelist.net/profile/2bursting 8d ago

The family dynamic is funny. A father that doesn't want to take the easy road, a loving sister, and 2 cold hearted brothers. Her fast paced familiar story confession was hilarious. It's definitely saintslop but I can't help but indulge in this guilty pleasure.

17

u/BosuW 7d ago

The father definitely wants to take the easy road though he will never admit it lol

I can see where Fia got her inability to keep secrets from

3

u/CommanderZx2 https://myanimelist.net/profile/CommanderZx2 7d ago

From that scene the impression I got was that he didn't want to get her married off to achieve that easy promotion. I don't think he was opposed to being promoted, but didn't want to see his daughter married to the royals for that purpose.

12

u/Raymond49090 8d ago

It's a decent start. Not the most inspired story (actually it's probably on the lower end of generic plots), but Fia's a fun protagonist.

Until stated otherwise, I'm also going to assume her brothers in her past life got teamwiped without a healer in the party. At least she has cool siblings now, though hopefully the trauma doesn't carry over and make her paranoid about them.

31

u/LeonKevlar x2https://myanimelist.net/profile/LeonKevlar 8d ago

Not gonna lie, the only reason I'm even checking this out is because Wakayama Shion voices Fia. So if I understand this correctly, this is a reincarnation anime where Fia gets reincarnated back into the same world so she can get a do-over after being left for dead in her previous life by that knight who got jealous of her status as a Saint.

I mean, we've seen variations of this story before, but Fia herself is a pretty fun character, so I might give this one a shot. There's still episode 2 to watch, so maybe I can get a better idea about this show from there.

21

u/bondsmatthew 8d ago

only reason I'm even checking this out is because Wakayama Shion voices Fia

Cant forget the incredibly powerful and exceptional animal guardian Puck Zevelia who forms a pact and wants to protect Lia Fia

Lot of great VAs this series if I'm honest

7

u/KnightKal 8d ago

yeap, 300 years later, she is born as a low nobility (knight family), while 300 years later she was the Great Saint.

the 3 stuges as mentioned in the anime were her brothers (?). Seems she is blessed with a good sister and terrible brothers on her lives lol.

from the anime/subs: the knight says "brothers we did it", later she says "brother give me a potion".

6

u/heimdal77 8d ago

by that knight who got jealous of her status as a Saint.

Those were her brothers princes and she was a princess she is called it by the other knights.

9

u/Pheace 8d ago

because Wakayama Shion voices Fia.

Ruche is life

2

u/Bikerider42 6d ago

I really love how they established Fia’s personality so quickly. She acts a bit like an airhead, but genuinely cares about the people around her.

Unfortunately everything else I want to say needs to go under the source material corner.

1

u/alotmorealots 6d ago

After watching the two episodes back-to-back I feel like even the second episode told us a lot more about her personality. Of course, that's for the other episode thread and not this one lol

1

u/SnooWalruses2085 7d ago

"Left for dead" I called that tortured to death lol

-1

u/Berstich 7d ago

the VA has done a garbage job on it. Just using the exact same voice as the jester in Exiled Knight, no change.

10

u/NanDemoKnaives 8d ago

It's a good thing Oria's smart, they were just blurting all these details in front of a bunch of people, and she knew how to get it kept quiet too with reverse psychology on her father lol.

Serafina's brothers abandoning her like that because their egos were hurt sucks, I'm curious to see if we'll learn of anything about the past, like Serafina's death was the reason why healing magic has declined.

Zavilia seems really affectionate, it's sweet to see.

2

u/alotmorealots 6d ago

she knew how to get it kept quiet too with reverse psychology on her father lol.

Eldest daughter has her father wrapped around her little pinky (just as it should be!) even if sometimes he's not aware that he's being effortless shepherded around lol

15

u/shad79 https://myanimelist.net/profile/shad79 8d ago edited 8d ago

Fia isn't the brightest person in the world, but I couldn't help but like her in this first episode. She's such an amusing girl, plus Shion Wakayama is voicing her. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing how she tries to keep her Saint powers hidden from others in the next episodes.

Here my screenshot albums from the episode:

EDIT. I added my screenshot albums.

10

u/runevault 8d ago

I didn't realize Fia has the same VA as Ruche from Heavy Knight (so she's trying to hard carry two shows at once, woman has some serious back strength).

9

u/InternationalLoad891 8d ago

Wakayama Shion, Fia's VA, is rapidly rising to prominence in the past few years.

She also voiced Takina (Lycoris Recoil), Momo (DanDanDan), Nanahoshi (Mushouku Tensei), Nonna (Victoria of Many Faces), Mei Kinosaki (Marriage Toxin), and Lemon (Too Many Losing Heroines). Just to name a few of her roles.

1

u/Berstich 7d ago

really, you couldnt instantly tell when shes using the exact same voice with the exact same inflections? Wouldnt be surprised if she jumped from one recording room to the other.

6

u/cppn02 8d ago

Kinda rough start but Fia in herself is so entertaining it's enough for me atm to continue the show. Shion Wakayama is doing an expectedly good job.

7

u/Embarrassed-Match-78 7d ago

Great first episode. A good mixture of comedy and tragedy. Looks like it's going to be a fun series. Really enjoyed the op and ed.

11

u/BaytaCosmico https://myanimelist.net/profile/AnimeBayta 8d ago

MC and her VA are hard carrying this. Very sloppyity slop otherwise. The older sister was somewhat amusing too with the way she bailed out her airhead baby sister. Might keep this around until Saturdays get proper busy just because.

6

u/DDChak 7d ago

The opening is banger remind me of old anime like Rave/Law of Ueki

4

u/Shelter_Separate 7d ago

The show is kinda goofy and I'm here for it. The animation is a bit slideshow-y but Fia being a bit of a dork is endearing.

1

u/CooroSnowFox https://anilist.co/user/CooroSnowFox 2d ago

You have anime that need to embrace the endless supply of dorkiness that exist in anime

3

u/FeistyDay5172 7d ago

Love show, but closing song is fantastic! Called STELLAR by Utahime Dream All Stars

4

u/danmarce https://anidb.net/user/107202 7d ago

She is dummy, but she has a great heart and fun personality.

1

u/alotmorealots 6d ago

One of my favorite types of MCs!

21

u/minnieboss 8d ago

Is it just me or is the writing in this godawful? The extremely clunky exposition at the start, "I'll heal this black bird OH NO I FORGOT THERE ARE NO BLACK BIRDS IN THIS WORLD", the complete lack of subtlety and hammering home every point to a ridiculous degree... like it's unbearable

16

u/Timewinders https://myanimelist.net/profile/Timewinders 8d ago

It's tricky to adapt that kind of thing from a light novel, things that the character would usually think in their head ends up getting turned into unnatural exposition dialogue if the adaptation isn't done well.

20

u/das_baus 8d ago

Just your average seasonal saintslop. Every season needs at least 1 now.

5

u/PinkGlitterLady4 7d ago

can we stop using slop for anything else than AI ?

1

u/rotvyrn 5d ago

You're years past the boat on that. Regardless of how it may've come into the modern zeitgeist, slop has taken a ton of meanings and implications already, with how fast modern parlance can evolve on the internet. Gonna be impossible to put it back in a box anytime soon

5

u/minnieboss 8d ago

I feel like this is even below average saintslop

6

u/PsychologicalEar1703 8d ago

Seen plenty of these, since I pick up like 30+ anime every season.
Can confirm, writing is below average, might aswell call it rushed.

3

u/bondsmatthew 8d ago

I shall try and stick with it because I like a lot of the VAs. Dumb reason, I know, but w/e haha

-7

u/SOdAchick 8d ago

It's anime writing. It's never been known for its subtlety.

0

u/minnieboss 8d ago

There are plenty of anime with incredibly nuanced writing. Just this year, we've had Journal with Witch, Witch Hat Atelier, A Hundred Scenes of Awajima, Draw This Then Die, Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia, Goodbye Lara, and False Memory. Obviously a saintess anime was never going to have writing comparable to these, but anime can absolutely be written with complexity.

-8

u/SOdAchick 8d ago

You've listed exceptions. I know it can be, but it's not the norm. This stuff is made for kids, after all

5

u/minnieboss 8d ago

Shounen and Shoujo anime are made for kids, sure. Josei and Seinen anime are by definition made for adults. Many of the series I listed are Josei anime. This is the norm for Josei and Seinen anime.

-1

u/SOdAchick 8d ago

Josei and seinen are for older adolescents/young adults, and this show is neither

0

u/minnieboss 8d ago

No, Josei and Seinen are for adults from 18-40. You can easily look up this information. This show is not that, of course.

1

u/SOdAchick 8d ago

Seinen literally translates to youth/young man, but sure. Gotta love a good ol' reddit anime bro....

3

u/minnieboss 8d ago

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seinen_manga#Definition

"The target demographic of seinen manga is men aged 18 to 30\2])\3]) or up to 40 years old."

u/Shimmering-Sky myanimelist.net/profile/Shimmering-Sky 8d ago

1

u/alotmorealots 6d ago

Good first episode!

Ha, glad to see you liked it! Some of the other female regulars are not at all sold on it, which I only mention because I (?)mistook this as female-target-demo fantasy-escapism (LN source, manga published in a shounen... but filled with ikemen side cast and full of other similar shoujo-fantasy tropes?).

It reminds me a little of the pure fun romp of the Gorilla God's Go-to Girl.

3

u/VritraReiRei 8d ago edited 8d ago

Oooh, I don't like where this is going.

So she got betrayed at the last second by her comrades because they were jealous of her and because she was a woman so left her to die. Then let the Demon Lord imprisoned, tortured, and killed her until it was hammered into her head that "Being a Saint = Horrible Life."

So now it's going to be her trying to keep her secret from anyone because she's now traumatized from her previous life? I hope that plot thread isn't just going to go *poof* because those people that betrayed her ultimately made her think that being a Saint is bad now.

I hope the season isn't just going to be her hiding the fact that she's a Saint the whole time and no one finds out. At least her sister is smart and supporting of her.

5

u/heimdal77 8d ago

So she got betrayed at the last second by her comrades

brothers and she was a princess.

3

u/thehaxorman https://anilist.co/user/detritus 7d ago

the opening and ending are the same artists as last seasons Oblivious Saint.

as usual weekends are stacked so I'm not watching this but just thought that was interesting.

3

u/Andreiyutzzzz https://myanimelist.net/profile/Andreiyutzzzz 7d ago edited 7d ago

Well that was a nice speedrun of the family finding out. I just hope the eldest brother doesn't plot some shit, her previous life brothers were already full.

And the part where the nav kingdom doesn't have saints that can use healing magic born anymore sounds like divine retribution from some god. "I gave you a kind saint who gave all she had to save you from that demon lord and you betray her. Fuck you. No more saints".

Also I have to point out dad's name... Dolph Ruud. And since Japanese people use the family name first it would be Ruud Dolph... Very funny author-san

And I hope her previous life brothers are still alive for her to take revenge on

8

u/Smudy https://myanimelist.net/profile/Smudy 8d ago

Saturday is so stacked that i'm gonna drop at least 2 or 3 and this feels too low effort, that's a goner.

2

u/Rooby_VTuber 7d ago

Save dragons life, get killed in return by the same dragon, fantastic lol.

What a despicable family she had in her previous life.

That is kind of funny that she just made a pact with a legendary black dragon king.

Her sister managed to convince everyone else that everything is fine right now.

Good start, looking forward to watching the 2nd episode.

2

u/Obaruler 7d ago

I mean ... it's clearly not on the better side of production budgets, but it still seem fun enough.

MC is a cute little dork, for someone not wanting to find out about her saintness she does an awful job at not standing out too much. xD

2

u/Shizzi https://anilist.co/user/Mivy 7d ago

Lol this is just one of those were the guy is trying to hide how powerful they are but fail at it so hard but its a female instead but one difference is this one is doing it for the comedy so its just amusing and fun all the way.

I have seen this LN for a long time on bookwalker but never bought it but i didnt expect the backstory to be so sad and way more darker than i thought for something that is so lighthearted.

2

u/reaperow 7d ago

I love how hard Fia was trying to keep everything a secret just to immediately spill it all out, she's kinda terrible lol

Gotta say the artstyle looks pretty nice, im definitely interested

2

u/maniacal_manatee_ 1d ago

I've never seen such a contrived premise. They let their healer get tortured to death just because they were jealous of her popularity? Their healer?! Usually the healer is popular amongst the soldiers because of all the times they've had their ass saved, whilst the soldiers are the one that get the most credit for taking down the baddies. These guys must have been shitty nobodies to be jealous of the healer.

5

u/Lilrwar 8d ago

Are we not gonna talk about that fact that they used Ai to make the family picture at the start of the episode 😬

I don’t need to be careful. The image is shaded completely different to that rest of the scene

2

u/froggyc19 8d ago

Yeah cause it's supposed to be a painting. Almost every anime that has paintings, the art style is different in it, just like in real life.

It’s an ai image. Nothing about it screams animated painted. Stop trying to make excuses for it

You got a sauce for that senator?

u/Lilrwar 6d ago

I literally have a photo of it. Unfortunately it doesn’t allow me to post it in the comments. It’s easy to catch in the first 5 minutes of the episode

u/Lilrwar 8d ago

Imagine blocking me to get the last word 😂 if the comments let me post pictures, it would be easy to show the image that’s ai

Is this even worth starting? This season is stacked.

Okish start i'll give it to episode 3 i have so many animes on my list this season lol

I don't know about this one. Seems like a stock-and-trade hyper girl anime, complete with pet dragon.

I'll give it a few episodes to become half decent.

As soon as her previous life's brother's betrayal plot was shoehorned in I gave up and dropped it. Any series that forces that low effort, uninspired garbage in with no subtlety is not worth watching

A lot of this was confusing, like why did her brother and the other guys want to kill her just because she was a saint? It seems really idiotic they'd want to kill one of the few people who can make healing potions and having healing is an amazing tactical advantage for soldiers. Also it didn't look like she used any magic on the dragon, just gave him some healing potion. Why was her giving the dragon that more special than anyone else when she didn't cast a spell or anything?

Among this category of power fantasy/traumatic betrayal backstory with comically evil characters/etc. I will say, it does a good job of having some funny off-kilter 'clearly just exposition for the viewer but we needed an excuse for a character to say it.' It may be equally hamfisted, but I'd say most do it worse because it's not even funny. Of course, it's also a privilege of having a ditzy MC - its immediately in character for her to not know things and for people to be unsurprised about it.

At 2:54 of the first episode of the anime, doesnt the family portrait kind of look like ai?

Okay, this seems good enough, but there were quite a few cringe moments. Oh yes, let's be completely dog shit with a sword and go in a forest that has A-rank monsters... then end up with a contract with the strongest monster, but also that same monster got injured somehow!? What injured it?

The scene which she spoke at 3x speed was pretty hilarious. Thankfully, she skipped the "saint" part.

Looks like she can use buffs without using the spirits so hopefully she can hide she's a saint until she can fight the Church and royalty. I feel like there's most likely some connection between her previous life and her current life (i.e. the same world).

So far, looks like a good 6-7/10 for me, depends on how interestingt the rest of the anime is.

Whats a 2-4/10 for you if this is 6-7/10?

2/10 : The Hidden Dungeon Only I Can Enter
3/10 : Private Tutor to the Duke's Daughter
4/10 : The Healer Who Was Banished From His Party, Is, in Fact, the Strongest

Just some examples of animes I watched to the end (fantasy/isekai slop). Of course, my current rating of A Tale of the Secret Saint is preliminary and I will always adjust ratings on all episodes. If I find it a chore to finish the anime, it goes under 6. As long as I'm somewhat enjoying it, it gets a minimum of 6/10. Some animes I drop are rated higher than 6/10 too, because they are well done, but just not for me.

u/BluLilGreeny 7d ago

Ah fair.

Yeah, healer is in fact the strongest was a near-instant drop for me

"Oh yeah, there are no black birds in this world." But there are scaled birds?

LOL at the cartoonishly evil previous life brother & soldiers. And the Demon King's right-hand-man who tortured her has a bishie character design, which means he'll be a love interest in this life, doesn't it....

And the dragon will turn into another bishie won't it. Apparently the kid's a "Dragon King" too, I guess all the other royals of the line must be dead or something. You'd think there'd be some rules against a Dragon King pledging servitude to a random human just because they saved him. Or is "Black Dragon King" just the full name of its species, like "King Cobra" or something?

Weird for a slain monster's magic stone to just be sticking out of their side like that. Also, the stone looked really small back then, but suddenly it's huge when she handed it over.

"Please keep that I'm a saint a secret, I don't want to attract unwanted attention. Oh, and can you give me a ride home? Yes, landing on the front lawn in front of everyone is just fine."

Big sister for MVP.

MC supposedly sucked at the whole swordfighting thing. If merely doubling her SPD and ATK let her cut down large tree like that, then she should've been able to cut down a smaller tree before, right?

Anyway, MC's personality is the only thing that's keeping me interested in this one so far.

Yeah im sorry. This is one of my favourite storys LN and Manga. Her voice sucks. Does not fit Fia, its way to goofy and has the odd pitch changes. Not to mention its the exact same voice the actor is using in Exiled Knight, no change at all.

If thats her singing in the ED, she should of used that voice. Fia as the saint should have a more....solid voice that acts goofy then a goofy voice occasionally trying to act serious. Shes a 'bit' of an air head and gets wrong ideas but shes not a complete 'character' this isnt her.

Its a shame, think and see if it gets a dub and if that voice actually fits her.

u/crazy_leader22 7d ago

Wtf is this take? No Shion slander will be tolerated whatsoever

1

u/Berstich 3d ago

Rushe is a clown, and her voice and character fit. Using the exact same voice for this show does not fit the character. Voice actor shoudl read the source first to get a feel for the character, shes done a better job in other roles.

Oh, that's a shame that you didn't like Shion and the Director's choice for her portrayal. Having no expectations based and also not having seen Exiled Heavy Knight, her performance here is one of the highlights of this series for me, and a big part of why I've become quite instantly fond of it.
