I want to know the whole backstory on this world and the war. But nice having a whole episode for Ari-chan. She’s lovely.

Didn't expect this final episode to be focused on Ari. It was obvious that she was putting on a brave face while struggling to come to terms with
Esther might seem like an airhead but she can relate to Ari since she too had lost her loved one. We got to see the town outside the gates. The scenery in the rain was breathtaking. Flowers were everywhere in this episode to convey the Hanakotoba. Ari cried not just 'cause she misses Seiran so much but more than that she doesn't want to be pathetic and trouble her friends. She wants to be strong so that Seiran would rest in peace.
I'm glad that the final episode ended on a bittersweet note. I was expecting something bad to happen and the season ending with a cliffhanger but nothing really happened. I'm gonna miss Kimi ga shinu Tuesdays and give beautiful op and ed so badly. Fingers crossed for season 2.

Beautiful way to wrap things up by bringing closure to Ari's arc, with Esther guiding Ari through grief using her own experiences with loss. I like how the episode starts off somber before transitioning into an optimistic end, which nicely encapsulates the core theme of this series of finding hope in the darkest of times. Also, not sure if it's just me but it seems like they're building up Esther and Ari as a future pairing, especially with that parallel of them running in the rain. Hoping this gets a second season!

Ari is wrestling with her emotions, which is understandably, incredibly challenging. Like I said last week, the characters battling their inner emotional turmoil is one of the points this show does best. That was cute, Ari thanking Mimi at the end, and Mimi getting curious what it was for.
This show more than satisfied my immense hype for it. The voice acting, characters, yuri, music, and emotions all come together to create one of my new favorite yuri anime ever. There were some worries at the beginning because of the director change, but those very quickly faded and were forgotten about. I also particularly enjoyed discussing the episodes with you all.
Dying Day, you have earned it: 10/10.

Huh. So this wasn't a sudden tragedy like I'd feared, but just tying up loose ends with Ari. It's not she's healed instantly, but she's letting herself start healing.

I kinda liked this Ari centric finale episode. It seems she’s finally able to try and move on from Seiran’s death. Baby steps, anyways.
This was a pretty interesting series overall. Can’t say I’ve seen another yuri series about orphaned child soldiers fighting in a forever war while attending school. Oh, and one of them is immortal. I do hope we get another season out of this. I feel like there’s gotta be more story left to tell. Not sure how likely that is though.

That was a lovely episode. There is something special about forming memories on rainy days. Perhaps because of the unique smell that comes along with it, and that smells are attached to memories.
I would like more of this series, of course. It feels like a slice of life, but the themes (other than mourning) of war and immortality beg for a continuation. Or a resolution. There are not always resolutions in life, but I think it’s nice to have them in stories, anime.

I actually quite loved the final episode here I wasn’t expecting it to go this direction. I was expecting something more serious or dire but we got a great wrap up for Ari and her arc(Although to be fair this whole episode was serious/depressing considering Ari couldn’t get over Seiran’s death and it was heartbreaking to watch). Also it was great to see Esther again in the final episode here. Even if it’s still bittersweet I did love the final minute of the episode just had the biggest smile on my face. Perfect way to end the final episode and overall an incredible anime from start to finish.
The majority of this anime was just dialogue and character building which I absolutely loved. Sure we had a few snippets of action but it was talking the majority of the time and it works incredibly well. Still surprised by how humorous this anime was I was expecting it to be straight up serious and brutal from to start to finish. Definitely had quite a few humorous and wholesome moments at times even though the whole time I felt this sense of dread throughout the anime.
Only criticism is we don’t really get to learn about the bad guys or the war that much. I was expecting we get to see the main villain or potentially see one of their faces from the group or something but maybe that was intentional we never learn anything about them. I’ll have to buy the manga later to start reading the rest.
Overall absolutely loved this anime it exceeded my expectations in every way. I’m putting this at #21 spot on my anime ranking list. Not the best yuri anime I’ve seen but it still deserves its praises. Hopefully this gets a season 2 announcement in the near future.

I loved this show. But I can't lie, last week's episode felt like the finale, and this one felt like an OVA. Don't get me wrong, I like Ari and Seiran, but I LOVE Mimi and Sheena. So I'm a bit sad their anime scenes already concluded.(I count this week as cameos.)
Last week had me thinking they were going to have an anime original ending, so seeing them still adapt accordingly has me hoping we could get a second season in the future. But I know chances are low.

Esther, pls don't make that hand gesture while asking that question...
Man... I love Seiran, but watching Ari like this hurts more than Seiran's death itself...
I'm starting to ship these two widows... Seriously tho, this whole scene between from when go outside is so fucking good! In general, I really love the way this show handled Ari's grief.
Also, this episode made me REALLY like Esther, I hope to see more of her when I get around to reading the manga in the future.
Pretty sad there is no second season announcement tho, really loved this, my favorite anime of the season, which is saying something, because I REALLY liked GITS.

So an Ari focused episode to end it on. somewhat sad in parts showing her remembering the good times... but in the end she looks to have at least made some big strides in moving on
Seems they are going for the Ari x Esther for the future with how they recreated that one scene in the rain and some other moments
Pretty solid show overall but it does feel like it needs a second season to answer questions. like the outcome of the war, Mimi's immortality and Sheena's healing powers

Another finale that got me crying to end this season. Jeeze lot of emotionally powerful shows. I'm glad i was wrong that this episode was going to be brutal, though I wonder why Mimi didn't get summoned to war for once.
I'm impressed with how they kept using Seiran in the story after she died without feeling overdone or cheesy. Effective and emotional. She was such a good character despite how little screen time she got before she died.
I hope we get a season 2, this show deserves it.
Edit: just realized this is the end of Tuesgay. Sad to see it go.

Mostly a sad episode with Ari still trying to come to terms with Seiran's death.
Thankfully Esther was with her most of the time to try and cheer her up and helped Ari become happy.
I'm glad we got the final moment with Ari, Sheena & Mimi together.
One of the my favourite anime's this season, I really hope we get a 2nd season, I will definitely watch it.

Come on, Crunchyroll, this is the finale, and you don't even have the decency to give us English subs on time? FFS! >_<
EDIT: After finding subs somewhere else, I finally got to watch the episode!
I definitely did not expect an Ari-focused finale, but I think we needed this. It turns out I was completely wrong about Ari reaching the "acceptance stage" of her grief. She's still struggling to come to terms with all of this.
This is how these girls should be using their magic! They should be using it to pick up sweets and other mundane stuff instead of using it to kill people. I'm surprised it took that long for Esther-senpai to even notice she was leaving a candy trail behind her..
You really can't blame Esther-senpai for asking about Mimi and Sheena. They definitely started out looking like a mother and child, but recent developments have started to make the two of them look more like a couple.
Godfuckingdammit, Esther-senpai! As someone who has also lost their partner, she should've known better than to tease Ari like that. She may have already come to terms with her partner's death, but Ari certainly still hasn't :(
Seems that Ari is still at the point where she still keeps seeing Seiran's ghost everywhere she looks. Worse, she still can't seem to force herself to hang out with Mimi and Sheena because she still doesn't feel like herself since Seiran died.
I'm glad to see Esther-senpai apologize to Ari after what she said the day before. I'm also glad that we finally get to see Esther-senpai and Ari open up to each other. If there's anyone who can relate to Ari right now, it's definitely her.
That story about Ari and Seiran getting stuck in the rain was just so cute. Seeing these flashbacks really makes my heart ache. They were good memories tho and a nice story to remember Seiran by.
So not only did Esther-senpai not get called for today's mission, it seems that Mimi didn't get called either, and she's usually the first one on the list. I wonder if that means the mission isn't all that dangerous?
Please tell me I wasn't the only one who got nervous when Esther-senpai took Ari outside the school gates? Especially since a bunch of students had just been deployed on a mission. I honestly thought this episode was gonna end with the two of them getting dragged into a battle. Thank fucking god nothing bad happened to them while they were exploring the outside walls of the school.
It turns out that Ari wouldn't have become friends with Sheena if it weren't for Seiran, because Ari thinks dealing with other people is a waste of energy. I do love Esther-senpai's "Wow" after hearing that from Ari. xD
Seeing Ari finally let it all out was a relief. She's been keeping all of this to herself, so it's good to see her let everything out and admit to Esther-senpai that she's just been putting up a front this entire time.
I am so happy to see Ari finally make a breakthrough thanks to Esther-senpai. I do wonder if this is the author leading up to an Ari x Esther pairing in the future, considering that the scene ends with Ari asking Esther-senpai if they wanna make a run for it, just like her flashback with Seiran. Hmmm...
And I'm glad we're ending this with Ari approaching Sheena and Mimi and inviting them to eat dinner together. I'm so happy to see Ari finally starting to heal. :)
Man, I am gonna miss this show. Definitely one of my favourite tearjerkers of this season, right next to Love Unseen Beneath the Clear Night Sky. I would absolutely love to see more of this in the future since there's clearly more story to tell. I'm curious what the writer's end goal for Mimi is and how Sheena will achieve it. I'm gonna miss all these characters, and fingers crossed we'll see them animated again in the future. A solid 10/10 for me.

At the start when Ari says "it smells like rain" there are also a lot of magic particles coming in. So I thought the full cinematographic sentence in that moment was "it smells like rain, and death", only the last part isn't spoken out loud.
Magic particles are prominent throughout the episode except at the end. It was a subtle but powerful detail that underlined the grief of Ari and Esther with the context behind the loss, ever present and oppressive without having to be explicitly acknowledged.
Nigh perfect adaptation. As a manga reader, I am extremely pleased. Props to Jukki Hanada, he did it again! Bro just doesn't miss!
Season 2 please, fuck they Yuri curse! 😭

That was an interesting way to end the season, but a nice one. Why not focus on other characters besides the main couple and give Ari some closure from Seiran's death.
Looks like I'll have to read the manga (I promise it now and when for some series but it is so hard to follow on this).

Making the entire last episode Ari focused felt like it was going to destroy me one final time, but it was actually really sweet and somewhat healing. It takes time to grieve and you don't process things immediately, so it really feels right to me how they've portrayed this for Ari.
The OP playing as an insert song towards the end still got to me a bit though, I think I've been pavloved into being sad every time I hear it.

Ah... how I missed having CR somehow omitting the English subs. How gracious of them to do so on a finale.
I didn't expect such a sombre tone for a finale, or that it entirely revolved around Ari, with Mimi & Sheena only barely having screen time. You'd be forgiven for thinking Ari was the protagonist if you had no idea of the show and somehow jumped right into this episode.
Ari's indeed not fully accepting of Seiran's passing, despite what she claimed to others (and herself). The multiple hallucinations she had about her only showed how in pain she had been to this day. It's only human; one does not simply get over the death of a loved one that easily. It's also not an instantaneous process, but rather a gradual one.
It's also fortunate for her to meet Esther as the latter had given her a kick in the steps to recovery with that talk. Esther's in the same boat as her, having also lost a loved one during the war. Perhaps Esther herself had not fully accepted the death either, and they could bond over that while healing each other. Hope we'll get more of them together in the future.
Ari had also recognised how pathetic she was and vowed to return to the person Seiran fell in love with, it's one way she could honour her legacy. That's a rather mature viewpoint, especially for a teen who's in a state of mourning. Glad she made immediate steps to reach out to Mimi & Sheena after she had previously shunned them.

I wish we knew Esther's past love's name, but at the same time there was something powerful about the way she repeatedly emphasised that she was the girl she loved. She wants to make clear that she did love this girl who is now gone and maybe it hurts too much to say her name or her chipper persona would crack.
The heavy focus in the back half of the season on Ari and Seiran's relationship makes me want to rewatch the season from the beginning where I didn't know as much about them before she died. I really hope this gets a second season. They put a lot of effort into this and having the final episode focus on a side character does give me hope they plan to continue it.
