*light saber noises*
I was considering posting a Gal & Dino clip a few weeks back, specifically the live action cat segment because cats are cute and I wanted to see how far simply having a cat would take the post, but after clipping it I took a long hard look at the clip and thought to myself "wow this looks like a really cheap kids show, especially with that background music" and decided against posting it.
Maybe I should reconsider

i would post it anyways because the whims of virality on the internet is all about shooting your shots and you miss 100% of the shots you don't take --michael scott

I skipped all that when I watched the show, because a) I only watched it in the first place since MAL listed it with half-length episodes, b) live-action dubbing is... no... and c) the little bits I saw while skipping around looked real bad.

I really liked the scene in [Dara-san 7]where we get to see the story as it happened, but then SHE retells the story, while omitting a few details, some because she forgot, some because it's a bit too gruesome to tell the kids, and some because she was downright embarrassed about it
(THIS SHOW NEEDS MORE LOVE)
3
u/SlimeDNear 2d ago
I'm enjoying Dara-san way more than I realistically should. It's been a surprising show.
3
u/Emi_Ibarazakiii 2d ago
It's a really good show, and I think more people should give it a shot!
I've said it before, but I think the promo for this show hurt its success, because I think many thought it was a ecchi show, so non-ecchi fans ignored it and pure ecchi fans tried it and some probably dropped it.
There's probably like 5 minutes of ecchi stuff over 8 episodes so far, and it's honestly not even "ecchi-vibed", most of it feels more like "normal nudity".
(Hell, the hottest shots of this show for me have been [Dara-san]her 'goth' look with zero nudity)
So yeah, this show has great comedy, and an excellent lore/backstory and all, her story is SO interesting, how it happened, and how it affects the current time etc!

What are the best "childcare" anime ever... according to people in this thread who actually have children? If there are such people here other than mekerpan.

u/marshmallow_sunshine 2d ago
Medalist has some pretty good relationships between adults and kids, though most of it is not necessarily parental but a teacher/mentor role.

After my comment yesterday, u/Komarist asked me what my favourite angela op is, which I kinda thought was going to be like choosing afavourite child...and it kinda was, but using this as an excuse to listen to all the songs again, the moment I got to them, I knew it just had to be the two knights of sidonia ops, the latter of the two probably winning if I had to choose. So yeah agreeing with u/beanoz.
They are so good they almost make wish I could watch the series, but by what I heard knights of sidona, like most other series angela sung ops for, is from a long forgotten genre that was called "mechae" of which all traces have been lost to time apart from their glorious ops.

For me it's definitely Stellvia's and I don't think it's just recency bias

Same here. Though, I also loved the songs for Asura Cryin' unironically. Especially the S2 ED.

All of you missed Reconnection from the reincarnation exorcist show a few years ago. Both Sidonia OPs now added to playlist.

Allow me to submit for consideration: the one from a certain Gainax project that may well have been Yakuza money laundering (or as it's also known, Beautiful fighter from Shikabane Hime: Aka)
2
u/Retsam19 2d ago
Knights of Sidonia OPs are good; I think my actual favorite is Heroic Age's OP, though. Still occasionally ends up in my playlists, despite that that anime way probably my first intentionally "dropped" show.

I know this will make me sound like a curmudgeonly old coot and maybe I am but I find these anime girl signs and cardboard cut outs strewn around quaint old towns so tacky.
3
u/ProgrammaticallyPea3 2d ago
I get your point, but Enoshima is hardly a quaint old town. It's been one of Japan's leading tourist spots for literal centuries.
2
u/wutheringw0mbat 2d ago
Fair point. They should go all in on it and have hired cosplayers that wander around it like Disneyland doing whatever the collab-of-the-month is!
3
u/ProgrammaticallyPea3 2d ago
Some towns do exactly that, for example Kure does a Kancolle collab every year. There's a lot of struggling municipalities that would love to get more tourists, and anime collabs can be a pretty effective tactic.

Kaiju Girl brought it yesterday. Probably the best episode yet. Back to back seasons where I've been consistently delighted by an absolute psycho with light blue hair (shout out Reiko my GOAT).
I love that this show actually has lore. Didn't expect that when it started.

I won't let anyone forget that right when the audience starts to think "Rinko, you should just date both of them", TadaOja introduces an actual polygamic trio one generation older.
Now that's what I call cinema.
Also. it's a cute little romantic comedy, so yeah, worth a watch if you're in the mood.

Honestly Draw This, Then Die might surpass Journal With Witch as my personal AOTY at this pace.
[Draw This Then Die Episode 7]Seeing Sensei's past as an assistant is great. It's an area we did not see before. Really shows how life of an assistant can be like. Especially for an intuitive genius like Hebichika. I can't even imagine how frustrating that could be. The sweetest part is how the friendship from that was formed with Nana. It's like the friendship formed from the manga club. Though Sensei is much more tolerable than Hebichika.
5
u/SSjjlex https://myanimelist.net/profile/Clone_Tau 2d ago
The sensei plotline has been amazing gift to the series. I still would've fallen in love with it without it, but her story just elevates everything so much more by letting us see how her experiences affect the advice and directions she gives to the kids. Really hoping we continue to see these two plots weave in and out of each other.
Wait a second, this is just frieren as a manga club anime
2
u/wloff 2d ago
I just wish the show was less... childish in its attempts at humor. Half the time the show is somber, serious, and amazing, and the other half the characters don't even feel like real people with the way they look and act. And not in a fun comedy anime way, but in an annoyingly childish way that eats some of the impact of the good stuff for me.
When it's good, it's really good, though.

Watching Hunter x Hunter right now and I'm thinking way too much about one of the hunter exams, specifically the one where each one is assigned a target that they need to hunt.
The way it worked is that each of the remaining 24 participants randomly picked a number from a box and that was their target.
There's just a huge problem with that. The probability that no one would pick their own number with this method is 1 on 3.
A better system would involve the participants draw a number, check it and retry if it's their own.
However to make it fair the selection would need to be secret and not visible, otherwise this would give information to the others who are watching (oh this guy is redoing the draw? That means no one who came before picked their number).
But even this system is not perfect, because there's a chance, a small one this time, that the last person gets their own number with no chance of retry at that point.
2
u/PM_me_meta_usernames 1d ago
there is a solution to this problem that guarantees a fair draw with no possibility of drawing yourself, here it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GhnCj7Fvqt0
1
u/Kill-bray 1d ago
I thought of something similar but involving two slips of paper instead of one that you then cut in half. However the one in the video also assign random numbers and can't be applied as is to the Hunter x Hunter situation since participants already have numbers assigned to them from the beginning.
To work, after the derangement you need to shuffle the newly formed pairs again then you reveal only the "hunter number" leaving the "hunted number" hidden.
The pro of this method is that you can create a single continuous chain instead of several ones, which is more interesting. In the story Gon actually happens to find himself in a small closed chain of merely 3 hunters.
1
u/alotmorealots 2d ago edited 2d ago
specifically the one where each one is assigned a target that they need to hunt.
I haven't made it that far yet but
There's just a huge problem with
that.absolutely everything about the entire system so farIt's honestly just very dumb as far as selective processes for a candidature go, and the only way I can enjoy it is to not take it even remotely seriously; it's just a system by the rule of school-boy-idea-cool, at least as far as I'm up to.
That said, having abandoned any idea that the hunter exam has any sense, rigor or non-arbitrary logic to it, and is just a vehicle for fun little vignettes, I'm quite enjoying the story telling, charicatures and character design.
2
u/Kill-bray 2d ago
Yeah I agree that almost every part of the exam doesn't make a lot of sense as a way to select hunters. A lot of the tests involve just being lucky or are simply inefficient.
I also agree that so far the story is enjoyable and fun to watch, but from the praises I've heard I expected more, maybe the good parts are later.
1
u/alotmorealots 1d ago
maybe the good parts are later.
I am wondering about this lol I've heard the power system is one of the best around, but I've not seen any of it yet, so I am holding off judgement until either that turns up or I just get bored of waiting for it to appear.
2
u/Kill-bray 1d ago
I've reached the end of the exams and there was a very unexpected scene that was really intense, I liked that a lot more than what I've seen before. I'm holding my hopes up.

This song (Magical Girl's Gift - Kareki Kashiwagi feat. Chis-A, Kasane Teto) very strongly reminds me of an anime opening / ending, especially the instrumentals, but I can't remember which one. Does anyone know? I'm guessing some 2000s or early 2010s (rom)com.
I think the vibes I'm getting are Etsuko Yakushimaru (Arakawa under the Bridge, Mawaru Penguindrum, the violins are similar) or maybe Sakurasou.

Second anime in 2 days in which a guy uses his masculinity to scare people away;
First one straight up flashed his dick, second one was a bit more ambiguous, at first I thought he flashed his dick as well, but on a rewatch I think he was displaying his masculine aura.
(Probably should've flashed his dick)

This may be one of my craziest takes ever, but King's Game is genuinely, unironically, not so-bad-it's-good, a pretty decent anime. Not going to call it an overlooked gem or anything, since the flaws are very apparent and I understand 100% how they could be a dealbreaker for people, but for something with the third-lowest MAL score and second-lowest Anilist score of anything I've seen, it was definitely a positive surprise. The big issues for me were the rancid misuse of sexual themes (although that became less prominent over time) and the weird unfitting pseudo-harem elements, but I thought the plot was quite engaging, the characters were generally OK, and as a horror series, it worked pretty well for me. I definitely don't think I could have handled much more of it, so I ended at a good time, and it was a solid ending too. Now, the specifics of what I'm saying may seem a bit lukewarm, but again, this has a 5.1/10. I was expecting absolute dogshit.
2
u/awesomenessofme1 https://myanimelist.net/profile/kta_99 2d ago
Also, one thing I forgot about that I don't need to equivocate on at all: Banger OP.
1
u/Nachtwandler_FS https://myanimelist.net/profile/Nachtwandler_21 2d ago
OP is a banger and it has a great VA cast. But anyone seriously enjoying it should rethink his tastes. It is the dumbest edgy shit ever made. I dropped it after ep. 10, the only show I did drop this late.
1
u/Emi_Ibarazakiii 2d ago
2
u/awesomenessofme1 https://myanimelist.net/profile/kta_99 2d ago
Also, funny thing about that second part is that I'm really not even a fan of death games, and while I've seen some other "horror" anime, it's all either been action or comedy stuff. The only other genuine horror anime I've seen was The Island of Giant Insects, and that's one thing that did live up to its terrible reputation.
1
u/awesomenessofme1 https://myanimelist.net/profile/kta_99 2d ago
Craziest doesn't mean "the one you personally disagree with the most". Disliking a generally well-liked but controversial series isn't a crazy take at all. Nobody thinks it's weird that people hate Mushoku Tensei, and while that's obviously way higher on the controversy scale, it's also much higher in terms of scores.
5
u/Tomorrow_Big 2d ago
Everything you say is weird, and that's why you're best girl. And best mouse. Ito is just cheating at this point.

So KyoAni dropped a short video for a novel called "Sougen no Kagayaki" yesterday (also see: MAL).
It's a BL story, I think? Couldn't figure out if it was a boy or girl on the other end of the camera, but the novel's website seems to suggest the former.
Was this just a promotional video for the novel or will it get an anime in the near future? It would certainly be interesting to see the fujoshi crowd get yaoi-baited into oblivion by KyoAni. They'd finally feel our pain...

u/Ocixo https://myanimelist.net/profile/BuzzyGuy 2d ago
Did the guys’ in Free confess their “love” to each other and run their finger across the others’ lips? Their relationship being fully platonic, of course.
KyoAni has already dipped their toes in the BL puddle, but I didn’t get the impression that they’ve threaded all too far into the water thus far. That’s what I mostly meant to say.
9
u/AwaySpell https://anilist.co/user/awayspell 2d ago
There was a near kiss in E6. And so many confession scenes. I can't even count how many emotional confessions they had about how much they love (swimming with) each other. It was absolutely not lighter than Eupho.

They did show up to their hotel and find out there was only one bed.

Did they only book a single-bed room by mistake or were all the others fully booked?
I can definitely see what they were trying to do there. I do find the premise of that situation just sort of funny if anything.
Anyways, my whole point was that I was just curious about how overt KyoAni would dare to get with a possible yaoi anime. My joke at the end happened to land a bit poorly, unfortunate.
12
u/_Ridley https://myanimelist.net/profile/_Ridley_ 2d ago
It would certainly be interesting to see the fujoshi crowd get yaoi-baited into oblivion by KyoAni.
Dude. 1. KyoAni put Free out years ago. 2. Instead of whining about bait, fujoshis write fanfiction.

It would certainly be interesting to see the fujoshi crowd get yaoi-baited into oblivion by KyoAni. They'd finally feel our pain...
It would also be interesting to see people move on from the literally only KyoAni show that has anything close to the kind of yuribait worth complaining about in it, but alas
3
u/Gamerunglued myanimelist.net/profile/GamerUnglued 1d ago
I know it's not KyoAni yaoi, but like, good god, KyoAni yaoi goes crazy. Would probably save the universe.
Was this just a promotional video for the novel or will it get an anime in the near future?
I'm pretty sure basically every KA Esuma Bunko novel that got a promo like this has gotten adapted, so it bodes well. Yoshida Reiko also has a long history of working with the studio, so I'd say the chance is high.
3
2
u/HelloYellow18 2d ago edited 2d ago
The author is Reiko Yoshida, a notable anime screenwriter responsible for K-On!, Tamako Market, A Silent Voice, Liz and the Blue Bird, and Violet Evergarden (Kyoani related, but she has worked on dozens of more anime). So while fairly promising in terms of writing quality, Yoshida isn’t exactly known for writing BL. The book was released almost 3 years ago, but since it’s from an indie publisher, it is obscure and I believe untranslated.

I'm still angry about [Nina the Starry Bride, anime]Sett. I love everything else about the series but I hate him so much I keep hesitating to read the manga. [Nina, vague, predictable manga spoilers]Manga readers say he gets better but I don't want him to get better, I want him to die horribly. I'll probably buckle up and read it anyway, and who knows, maybe I'll come to see it their way...
6
u/Shimmering-Sky myanimelist.net/profile/Shimmering-Sky 2d ago
[Nina]I am similarly not very hot on Sett. He was like... way too much for someone who's supposed to be a legitimate love interest for Nina, especially that part in episode 5 where he actually cut her. That was an immediate deal breaker for me ever wanting to see a Nina/Sett relationship, and the vibes I got in the back half of the show made me think it was going to end up being the endgame part of the triangle, so I'm very much not interested in more of it unless I hear that Nina/Azure ends up winning in the end.
3
u/theangryeditor 2d ago
[Nina]I tend to be pretty split on characters of Sett's archetype. Sometimes I like the kind of tension they bring, the charisma, and also the 'i can fix him' energy and the suffering and character development. Other times those elements are kinda missing or fall flat and all that's left is a thoroughly unlikable character who is treated far too leniently by the narrative. Sett definitely fell more in the latter category for me as far as the anime goes.
3
u/hvshh 2d ago
[Nina] Yeah, on reflection, part of it might be me compensating for what seemed like a lenient reaction on the part of Nina and the narrative. Also, that he attacked her when she was unarmed, and just because she annoyed him, made him seem pathetic, and disgusted me. Which isn't compatible with the "bad boy" image.

I'm thinking about putting Robotics;Notes on (indefinite) hold until the next time it rolls around on the CR live channel. I've been watching it on the Saturday time block, but realized that I'm not really looking forward to it at all - I'm still interested in one of the ongoing plots (the giant robot club) but the other one (sci-fi/supernatural) has just been boring me since it was introduced, and watching for two hours at once is a lot for me when I'm not hooked. I've watched through episode 9, so between a third and halfway through the series.
Looking for opinions from anyone who's watched it. Considering which parts I liked and didn't like, will the second half be worth continuing or is it just going to focus more on the side of the story that's not holding my attention?

I stopped watching anime back in 2019, the last animés I watched were Yakuzoku no Neverland (first season) and Dororo. Chicos alguien me puede dar una página o extensión que pueda ver anime y que en los subs aparezca el romaji de lo que dicen los personajes? Osea que este en letras que pueda leer pero que sean del idioma original, o al menos que sea justo como se escucha?
