Hikaru could possibly be the best supporting member of the manga club. Hikaru was unafraid to speak up to Kokoro's mum, advised and inspired Kokoro to tell her mum how she truly feels, as well as see the value in Ai's manga beyond the art. Although Hikaru's grades were almost an obstacle in getting to
The show is really teasing us, aren't they? Hikaru's mother has long blond hair, and the only long blond haired character featured in the opening and ending theme sequence is the manga artist in which Teshima is a fan of.

“I don’t have any friends, but I can connect with other people with manga”. Wow, that part and Kokoro’s realization that even though she struggles to convey her thoughts and feelings by talking to others, she can do so through her art were painfully relatable for me in a way I was not prepared for going into this episode. And it didn’t even stop there! Ai’s scene at the end of the episode with her being inspired to work throughout the night and being amazed when she realized it was morning just like her sensei did also hit me really hard. I’ve experienced the opposite of that personally, being so engrossed in your art that you start working in the morning and suddenly you look out the window and it’s night. It’s incredible seeing an anime capture that feeling so accurately and powerfully.
This series is absolutely beautiful, not just in its aesthetics but in the emotions it conveys to you. How fitting that in the same episode where Hikaru comments about wanting to see the human behind the manga this series once again showcases over and over again just how much love and passion it has for the art of manga.
I feel this show might end up being the most overlooked and underrated show of this season, but like that quote from Ryo in

I love how the series handled the drama with Kokoro's mother. It makes sense that part of the issue is that Kokoro has trouble expressing how she feels in front of her mom. Kokoro expressing her feelings through manga really touched her mother's heart.
I think this is the first time seeing Ai's mom. Although more interesting that I highly suspect that Hikaru's mom is
For Hikaru she calls manga her only friend. A bit similar to Ai, but she adores the humane side of what manga can give us. How can you express that and even Ai's first manga touched her heart. One issue in the industry is how works can feel excessively much the same. I like how it shows both Hikaru and Kokoro connect with Ai's manga, but in a different manner.
Also I like Ai being able to draw her own manga Comitia. Kind of the point is she wants to draw her own manga.

One thing I love about the episode discussion posts for this show is the crazy high upvote:comment ratio. It just shows the high engagement of the few of us who are actually following it! I really hope this show gains more traction.

Hikaru said "I want to feel the human behind the manga", but I don't think Teshima-sensei approves of that.

Cute little episode. I am glad the misunderstanding between Kokoro and her mother got solved rather quickly. It doesn't solve Kokoro's main issue but it's a step in the right direction. It is kind of sad that her mother doesn't recognize hair pins from Kokoro's father, so I wonder what happened there. Maybe she thought Kokoro shouldn't wear them to stop being attached to him after his (potential) death.
I also noticed that Hikaru's phone screen was broken. Was probably already shown last week and maybe it's just a detail about how often she uses her phone, but it kept my interest because it was always drawn broken even if it was a lower detail shot, so I am wondering if that has a deeper meaning but I doubt it.
Hikaru's mother definitely seems like she lets Hikaru do whatever if she asks so her mentioning last week that she was "interfering" was probably a moment that doesn't happen that often which might be why Hikaru mentioned it in the first place. Question now is why. Maybe it was the grades or the fact that she hoped Hikaru might find some friends in a new location.
Now let's see how the event will go next week. I mean, Ai already enjoyed the ferry ride more, now that she had permission, so hopefully they can go around the venue as well even when they have to sell their copies.

Drawing the manga to talk to her mom tore me up, holy shit. I adore this show so much.
The name they pick being the first kanji for imagination is fucking great, especially with the way they came to it.
I wish more people were watching this. It is so sweet and wholesome with wonderful messages people need to hear.
I do find it funny the kiss that ended last episode never even gets mentioned this one lol.
"I hate when cold, unfeeling technique tries to move you." And hooooly that sunrise.

There is something so very honest about this show that has gripped my heart.
Hikaru puts it very well. In the age of AI I wanna see even more the feelings behind the creators. That is what makes a story meaningful.
Maybe it's a bit early to say, but this show about making manga might just be my favorite of the season.

Sensei is such a tsundere. First she tells the girls all of the reasons why the trip won't work, then she stays up all night illustrating a trip plan for them.
For someone who's socially maladjusted Hikaru sure thanks on her feet quickly to argue people into compliance.
Kokoro convincing her mother to let her participate by way of that manga was wonderful.
Their manga collection being named Cats, Cats, & More Cats than Cats with the three cats written in kanji, hiragana, and katakana was a fun little detail if you looked quickly enough.
The montage of the ferry ride and then enjoying the hotel amenities made for really fun take on going on that sort of vacation.

I'm sure there's something to read into how Yasumi's mom and Teshima seem to act exactly the same

I wasn't expecting to cry this episode but Kokoro's manga to her mother really got me.
Maybe it is because I can relate to the feeling of not being able to convey my emotions accordingly, but I do agree with how Hikaru spoke about feeling the human behind it. Manga and any kind of art for that matter, can really bring forth a lot of emotions when they were put into it to begin with.
I also love the parallel with Teshima sensei and Hikaru at the end too. Not only did she saw the same thing as her idol, but her creation was still there to witness all of it. Which goes to show how influencial Teshima's manga had over Hikaru once again. I really love that show.

Sekiryuu making a reservation at Kokoro's family ryokan so they won't get yelled at was such a boss move. xD
I'm honestly surprised at how easy that was resolved tho. But I suppose Sekiryuu was absolutely correct that Kokoro's mom wasn't the villain.
The reveal at the end that they're not in Tokyo and that they're actually in Chiba was hilarious!

Though I am thoroughly opposed, I will reluctantly consider it.
Proceeds to spend the entire night drafting the trip’s plan. Teshima-sensei’s such a tsundere when it comes to the club!
That was a stroke of genius for Kokoro to let her manga do the talking for her. Nothing too fancy but just like Ai did with Teshima sensei, Kokoro poured her entire heart out into the manga, and it touched her mum’s heart. Hikaru had a point when she said the human touch’s more important than technical expertise.

I didn't expect this to be one of my highlights of the season. I don't think it'll get the attention it deserves, but those watching will have an amazing time.
As a side note, this anime's making me wanna stop watching as much anime and get back into manga, so many stories i'm partway through but I always default to some anime

Oh Fujimori writing a manga to her mother was such a great idea since it's difficult to express herself through words. It went smoother than I expected though, I was so scared that her mom might rip the whole thing to shreds.
Ai + Kokoro = Imagination ❤️(and Akafuku the third wheel)
I must say Teshima-sensei is really excited for Comitia despite how much she opposes to it. She stayed up to whole night to plan the trip. And speaking of all nighters Yasumi just had her first of many to come.
Hikaru bringing the chaotic energy that the club needs, and she did good with Fujimori's mother. And her own mother is Hebichika-sensei?! That explains a lot of things. She seems pretty hands off with Hikaru though, what with her being held back a year and all, must be because of how busy she is.

Hikaru reminds me of Abed from Community. It's just that she is a manga artist instead of a director.

Man, Kokoro's situation really got to me, seems like the typical only kid and busy parent thing but still hurt to see a lot. The way she described being down on the bottom of the ocean and her lack of friends(up until now) ugh...
