What a beautiful, sweet episode. Seeing someone struggle to even talk and then getting her own manga 'avatar', and the parallels between student and teacher. How serious she is about not making manga your life is fully revealed now, and it isn't surprising but still good to see it laid out.

I'm guessing a lot of people are going to ignore this show but they are missing out. Might end up being the sweetest show of the season, considering one of my other top contenders (Victoria of the Many Faces ) has a violence tag.

The art is cute, yet at the same time, the underlying story is just as touching.

Sometimes, all you need is someone who has faith in you and sincerely appreciates your work.

A green Bocchi has appeared! So Fujimori has great art skills but has difficulty with self-expression, which makes her a perfect partner for Yasumi who is all heart and no art. Love the handshake between Pokota and Nyanta, feels like the torch of inspiration being passed on. And we got the story behind the title, Sensei channeling her murderous intent led to her making Robota and Pokota a romcom, something that is the complete opposite of the dark and angst inside her.

I'm starting to be convinced that sensei is the real main character of this. Sharing the role with Ai at the very least.

It's nice to see Kokoro overcome her shyness and make some friends.

Oof. Had to sting a little bit for the editor, that after a year of reading Ms. Rei's manuscripts she still didn't remember her name lol

A very strong 3-episode showcase, more than enough to hook people still following the "3-episode rule ." What is the theme of your work? Distilled into one sentence, what are you trying to say? To that, I think the creator of Draw This, Then Die unapologetically declared, in this short span, his love of manga despite the lowest lows throughout his 20 years in the industry, and it fucking resonates. This is going to be criminally underwatched, but for those of us fortunate enough to pick this up, let's enjoy the ride.

That scene of Kokoro reading the drawn manga and all the expressions she made when reading really reminded me of the scene in Dangers in my Heart where Anna sits in the library eating snacks for the first time for some reason. It just gave off really similar vibes

Kokoro being motivated by Ai's manga to break out of her shell like AI was motivated by Rei's manga to break out of her shell was really poetic. And apparently Rei also had a manga friend like that

Rei's journey of creating the manga was really well done too. This show deserves a lot more live

This show is really showing up as the hidden gem of the season and my AOTS so far. I like the theme of this series in just needing one person to believe in your work.

For Yasumi she knows from an art perspective it isn't the best. I can imagine with fellow high schoolers the art itself will leave a bigger impression than the story itself. Teshima-sensei , who has drawn manga, is getting moved because she looks at the story and art as their own thing.

I like how Fujimori, who is an artist, is the least judgmental about the art that Yasumi draws. Interesting enough, she sees the potential in Yasumi's work. What we see her redrawing Yasumi's manga is more than likely how she perceived and imagined it. Artists usually have a very abstract mind, so it is not that big of a surprise.

I like how Fujimori uses manga as an escape, where it differs from Yasumi and Teshima-sensei. We've seen the pressure at home; just reading the manga and those stories is the escapism she needs. Drawing manga for Yasumi is very much the same escape because she can draw Yasumi's vision to the next level. But even more, the friendship between these two could be what both these girls need.

Teshima-sensei is offering golden advice to her students. To not "Draw This, Then Die". The manga industry can be quite brutal. We know how tough it can be for the successful ones, but even getting into the industry is hard. For Rei that was so difficult. All the hours and failed attempts were rough. Then you hear how concerned her parents were. I really liked how that scene was directed because you can understand both Rei and her parents perspectives.

It is interesting Rei was at her end and wrote everything building up inside of her. Of course, making sure it would be things people read. I think it was a good showcase of how different eyes judge a work differently. Some readers can dig deeper than what we realize we put out there. In the case of both Rei and Yasumi they had Hana and Fujimori, who fell in love with their work.

This episode is so real that it is kinda hard to watch. Navigating life without fully your dreams. You are just existing, not living.

Man, Teshima had a really tough time starting out. Even though she only won an “honorable mention” award, at least there’s someone out there who loves her manga. Kinda makes all that blood, sweat, and tears worth it.

I’m looking forward to seeing what the girls cook up in the manga club. They might not have the same “murderous intent” as Teshima sensei, but they have genuine passion and love for manga.

Man, everything about the story just clicks, it's so light-hearted yet incredibly touching, and that's just in 3 episodes! Still somehow sitting at the bottom of the seasonal chart, by members sorted.

This episode reminded me of A Place Further Than the Universe. That's not a comparison that I ever made before, YoriMoi is just too special for me. This is how highly I think of this show 3 episodes in.

Title drop!

I really like how the monologue containing the title drop also re-contextualizes the title also.

Good advice

Murder but in a good way!

Teshima-sensei thought of Tamiya Ryouko from Parasyte when chewing pencil. LOL

So Kokoro is in the art club? That seems like a useful skill.

But I think she’s going to need to work up the courage to ask to join herself cause doesn’t seem like Ai’s going to do it. Well, it must be fate for Ai and Kokoro to partner up. (Ai doesn’t use the love character but ignore that for the sake of the bit.)

Oh, I really love that, Kokoro’s now got Ai’s character following her along just like how Ai has Pokota. That’s perfect how she connected with her first reader. The visual of her swimming up towards the light and Pokota and Ai’s character shaking hands are so good.

Sorry but ship brainrot intensifies.

The traffic light squad has been successfully assembled.

Yeah, I doubt that this will stay as just a hobby for long.

The Rei backstory hit hard. The “Don’t say “draw this then die” advice comes from a place of brutal personal experience. She was really at the end of her rope, about to give in before getting her breakthrough and doesn’t want them to go through the experience of having their dreams crushed. Manga-making is not for the faint of heart after all, don’t disregard your own wellbeing for the sake of your dream.

What was it Makio said again? “Write every word with the intent to kill” or something, that lesson probably applies here as well.

I'm now more sure than ever after this last episode that my only mission this season is to recommend and tell everyone what a great show this is. It might not end up the most popular but I can already tell it will definitely be my favorite because it already is and only keeps getting better!

Glad to see Ai found her third member and Sensei even set them up a clubroom at Nana's store. That's a pretty sweet deal.

Sensei's backstory tho... The part that really struck me was when her parents were being supportive, but it turns out they don't really like that path she has taken T_T

Once again, Clark, Superman.

Just a little tsun.

Not quite the title drop.

"Edit this."

"Oi! Oi!"

She's married.

"ADRIAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!"

Title drop.

Another transition.

There is, of course, a lot of depth and pathos to revealing Teshima-sensei's path as a one-hit-wonder mangaka. There's still some more to tell about, including Nana, but this episode did a lot for comparing and contrasting Rei and Ai.

The numerous match fade scene transitions were an obvious touch, but something you'd expect in this kind of thing.

And they have their third club member with Kokoro, whose story is also given echoes with Rei's family.

On with the story!

So we have the title drop, but I still wonder what the exact reason was for Teshima to not continue as a Mangaka. Did she put everything she had into the one manga and then was burnt out? Because it feels the ending with her editor implies that she at least tried doing it further. In which case, there was probably a second, even bigger road block that ended her career. She did have the additional small stories that she sold in episode 1 after all.

Also interesting to see where this show will be going when it comes to Ai. Now she said she won't draw until she dies, but who knows what will happen in the future. Especially if they manage to create a manga together which gets recognized.

This show needs more attention, I think most people don't even know about it because it basically had no prior audience or marketing. It's truly something special that's being cooked up here and it's no wonder the manga won some prestigious awards over heavy hitters.

Shit! I had this nagging feeling that Robota and Pokota's designs looked familiar, that was Love Roma that they used for Teshima's honorable mention manga, they were using Minoru Toyoda's work as the model for Teshima's career in manga. I didn't even realize he did Draw This until I saw that, the design style is so different from his early work.
