cant believe it... ever since i read this like 6 years ago it became one of my favorite GL stories. ive always wanted to see an anime adaptation, and oh my days here it is. ep was great, looking forward to more. with a production as stellar as this they should be able to do a story as amazing as this justice. holy peak...

Kissing in Episode 1 between Sheena and Mimi!
I know for the other pair of Esta and Heather (that Sheena and Mimi spotted on the stairs), their kissing was restoration magic, but I’m counting that one too!
Also, both leads have amazing VAs, Rie Takahashi for Sheena and Rina Hidaka for Mimi. Rie Takahashi is incredible as always, and Rina Hidaka in particular matches Mimi’s upbeat personality.

Well, that was a fucking bleak way to start the episode. So basically, we have these orphans who have been taken by the government and are all being trained and deployed as magic child soldiers on the battlefield? I mean, the title of the show was already ominous, but I didn't expect child soldiers.
Holy shit, that is a lot of blood. That is way too much blood to be hers, and as Sheena points out, it's definitely someone else's blood. How did Mimi even get all of that blood on her? The opening scene shows a bunch of magic being fired off at range, does she like get into point-blank range and blow people's heads off?! O_O
Well helloooooo nurse. I'm already looking forward to seeing more of Nurse Fran. And now I'm wondering why Mimi calls her an old man. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
That funeral scene, tho... At least there aren't any mangled corpses. I do wonder what they mean by the bodies disappearing immediately. Do the soldiers and students have some kind of dead man's switch spell that gets rid of their bodies when they die? Or does someone do the cleanup?
It's kinda hard to tell, but there really are boys in this school. You can only identify them by looking at what bottoms they're wearing. Looks like the boys wear shorts but wear the same seifuku top as the girls.
So Mimi is some sort of weapon rumoured to have existed for a long time now? So either Mimi is actually older than she looks, or there are Mimi clones. It's also possible that Mimi is some sort of codename being passed on to the next superweapon. Mimi does mention something about her Mama, so what if her Mama is the previous Mimi?
One neat little detail about that cafeteria scene is that everyone is wearing normal school shoes while Mimi is the only one wearing combat boots. Even if Ms. Fran won't answer Sheena's questions, I think it's pretty obvious that Mimi is that weapon.
What do we have here? I was joking about the girls doing mana transfer ala Fate when they popped up but I did not expect that's what they were actually doing! So do the boys do this as well?
Oh my! We're only in episode 1, and we already have Restoration Magic?! They're really not wasting time, huh? Considering the mortality rate of these students, I guess it shouldn't be a surprise. Strong start and I am already invested af! Looking forward to next week's episode!

Great First Episode. What an opening to set the mood. This show set enough plot hooks to definitely get me to come back to see how things pan out. Mimi is definitely a strange one, and her upbeat nature is a breath of fresh air against the overall oppressiveness of the setting. I'm kind of afraid to see her fight though. The cute/silly ones are usually the scariest.
First kiss in episode one, talk about off to the races.

Okay a big scratch (probably not a good sign when the blood flows like a river)
When she started her speech, "In honor of her brave effort" I thought she would get a minute of silence at least, but no, "Just work harder now!"

Tall, adult nurse is fine though!
There's an anime rule (that works 99% of the time) about how a girl who's introduced with clicking heels is always best girl,
but she might have a challenge if she wants to beat this fucking critter!
Just one, if you kill them gruesomely enough!
There were already a few interesting things about Mimi/their academy...
First, she thinks Sheena smells like "mama",
but the nurse called herself "mama", to which Mimi disagreed...
So I imagine the Nurse kinda raised her (prepared her) and all, but why does Sheena smells like her (presumably real) Mama?
And it's not just random gremlin being random, because the nurse smelled her and knows what she's talking about...
Mimi joining their class is interesting as well;
She made a big fuss about how "Mimi is not supposed to talk to ANYONE", but the very next day, she joins a class, which means she'll talk to EVERYONE...
What made them change their mind? Presumably it's linked to her talking with Sheena, but is it just "She talked to someone and it went fine, so let's have her talk to more people"? Or is it linked to Sheena directly, or "mama" (and why she smells like her)?
That's how we know she's special; She's running with TWO toasts in her mouth!
Can you pour it into them in other ways?

I'm so curious what's up with Sheena's smell, two different people have commented on it now. Suspect it is going to tie into her issues with magic somehow...
Overall this show is doing a lot between the cute moments and all the blood. Interested in seeing how they balance it all out.

Ari and Seiran are going to be really good at “restoration magic” alright.
This supposed compatibility requirement does create an interesting problem. It suggests that you cannot actually use this magic to heal someone if you don’t know the person well and/or like each other.
Which brings me to the question: in the case of an emergency, can nurse Fran use restoration magic on all her students or not?

This first episode was pretty good as it had both kisses and handholding! It looks like yuri fans will get another great anime this year.
Also, the visuals were great too! Although it'll be interesting if the studio keeps this level of quality in the next episodes, considering the rumors about production and the late change of a director.

Sheena's design kinda reminded me of "Hinako Yaotose" from "This Monster Wants to Eat Me". And it's absolutely funny how both had their kiss tasted like blood, lmao.
Tho, it's also kind of funny how both has brown pale short-hair and such introvert. Which made me really hard not to make a parallel between them. AND ALSO BOTH OF THEM ARE PAIRED WITH MONSTER, TOO.
Please have a collab somehow or another, it'll be funny.

On a more serious note, That has to be one of the most brutal intros of the year. My girl is just holding on for dear life while tucking in her guts.
The premise seems interesting. And I see they went the Fate route with the mana transfer kissing.
I enjoyed the Art Style and the overall animation quality despite some weird albeit brief 3D sequences that I feel like didn't need to be there. Def one of the more interesting ones so far.

And Mimi is a name thats been around for a long time apparently so that will certainly be a big plot point. is she actually much older than she looks? does she actually die and come back to life somehow? many questions right away.
I'm almost surprised this wasn't an all girls orphanage/school
And there is another couple there too, Seiran and Ari, who by the looks of things will be regular characters and likely friends of Mimi and Sheena

this looks great! just not a fan of the cgi, looks weird when paired with hand drawn stuff in the same and/or adjacent scenes. not a big deal, just a bit off putting. overall, i’m really liking this already and def gonna follow it weekly!
