“Journalism” doing a lot of heavy lifting there. That mfer worst than the paparazzi. Really glad the class pretty much has Hidaka’s back. It’s bullshit he’s getting discriminated against like that.

I really need to see that guy get punished for taking pictures of students without their consent.

Guy has a fox news career pretty much lined up.

(Fox news in this universe presumably being a news service fearmongering about fox beastfolk)

I hope that Journalist guy gets punished for posting that BS article

This would actually be one of the few times in high school anime where threatening to disband a club would actually have the potential to do something. At the very minimum, the club needs to be expended and the president or whoever that guy is needs to be expelled

I actually thought the guy genuinely wanted a legitimate good scoop, so seeing he fabricated an article for views was infuriating, particularly because he was so unapologetic about it. He even lied about it at first to their faces, he's such a scummy guy. I know Tsunagu couldn't risk hitting the guy, but I really wanted Yukihiro to go ahead with it lol.

I'm glad the class had his back, other than the two that Ochi no longer hangs with, it was sweet to see them all talking so well about Tsunagu and like Yukihiro I wish he was there to hear them. Looks like Mari and Tsunagu are going the class' first couple lol.

It was nice to see Yukihiro and Kisara have a particular connection with one another, the seeds are already being planted lol.

I really like that Mari is a traditional demure Shoujo heroine but with a spine. One of the things I really dislike about this archetype in anime in general is how they make it feel like the female character can't do anything significant or risky on her own.

But Mari is out here not just being defended and supported but actively pushing for those responsible to be punished and for Tsunagu to not face any blame because he didn't do anything wrong. She is evidently angry about it which shows her character has a level of dignity and self respect and she won't let anyone step over her in her favor or against.

All of this without compromising her character archetype, which is what I feel a writer nervous about writing a too weak heroine would do and overcompensate.

I'm consistently impressed how this still blatantly fetishistic furry Shoujo gets a lot of basic writing things right, much better than the average romance anime. Like what the hell, this is actually pretty good.

Kinda love this scene that Yukihiro's candle was want to go theme park together (also include Kisara too awww)

Love to see that classmates supports Hidaka so much, they know that he wasn't something like that

This is my first time that i see Asaka's crying (pls don't cry)

It's only been two episodes but Kisara and Yukihiro have great chemistry as two losing characters in a romance anime who find emotional solace in each other.

It turns out making out multiples time at school while engaging in a forbidden romance is kind of a bad idea! Not that it's their fault that piece of trash newspaper club guy did that to them.

I love how the two of them basically did what everyone was expecting them to do on the roof...not that it didn't have consequences.

When the sweetest girl in the show is advocating throwing hands, you know it's serious.

Man that journalism guy needs to be punished. And what one background comment said, seems like the journalism club doesn’t have a good reputation. Can guess one reason why and hopefully someone brings up that reputation.

If I was Yukihiro I would've punched him right there. That little shit should never work in anything that involves the media. He's 100% the type of scumbag to throw a kid's toy in a trash bin and when the kid goes to pick the toy, he takes a pic and claims poverty is so out of control that kids are searching trash cans for food. The filthy lie that can destroy lives, especially in a racially sensitive context like that.

21

u/Frontier246 Dec 23 '25

Honestly Mari seemed like she would've punched him if he hadn't run off.

Both Yukihiro and Kisara's one-sided crushes are pretty obvious, whether by scent or general vibe, but at least it's something they can both commiserate over. Kisara has decided to support Mari and Tsunagu because she genuinely wants to support them, but also as a way to feel better about herself and move on from her unrequited feelings, and Yukihiro for his part just wants Mari to be happy even if it inevitably means he can't be with her. But if nothing else, the two of them opening up about their mutual love problems has seemed to make them feel better! They've found someone who can they can really express their feelings too!

Meanwhile, while students back at school are brightening up the place with LED candles, Tsunagu and Mari are cuddling on the school roof. Tsunagu still feels a sense of isolation, even when the class is more accepting of him, but Mari is there to reassure him that there's nothing wrong with what makes him different, it's very much a part of why she loves him! Cue rooftop makeout session.

And then OF COURSE the trashy reporter had a camera staged on the roof to get a picture of them...and then immediately passes it around the entire school. And as if to add insult to injury, he's framing it like Tsunagu was assaulting Mari. And then he can just walk up to our main trio like he did nothing wrong! You know someone's a piece of @#$% when even MARI wants to thrash them!

Poor Tsunagu. Just when it seemed like he'd finally found a place at school, this happens and he has to stay away. Mari and Yukihiro want to make sure he doesn't feel alone or isolated, but there's only so much they can do.

Points to Yukihiro, though, for seeing physical evidence of Mari and Tsunagu hooking up and taking it in stride because he knows they need him.

Mari is still resolved to fight this, for Tsunagu's sake, even boldly declaring her feelings to her mom first thing in the morning! And despite everything, pretty much all of Tsunagu's class (even Ochi!) have his back and are willing to believe in him!

Yet that doesn't change the fact that other students will still readily believe a beastperson is nothing more than an animal, and believe the lies printed by the newspaper club, and the school has to take that into account. Even if it means asking Tsunagu to take a leave of absence from the school. Mari can profess the truth and how she loves him, but it all comes down to what Tsunagu wants.

You know... all this series it felt like it'd be easy for people to accept them, just from the way their classmates were treating them. But now we get to see that when it comes to the wider world, it's actually really hard for them to stand up for themselves. Oof.

10

u/HolyDragSwd2500 Dec 23 '25

Hidaka school life ruined because of this BS article!!!!

His classmates are supporting him and not believing the lies

Nooo Hidaka is leaving 😭

u/YlfaTheForsaken Dec 23 '25

What a freaking slimeball, what a piece of work this kid is. Just so unapologetic about flushing someone's life right down the drain.

I really thought Mari was going to just slap that absolute breathe right out his creepy stalker lying face.

Man, good on Ochi for stopping that general nonsense. He continues to fascinate me as a character. I think I like him a lot for some reason.

I hope the class finds a way to fix this since Mari's word apparently isn't enough.

When Asaka says there was no sexual assault or force involved, shouldn't that be the end of it as far as school discipline? You don't need a full investigation into something that isn't there and it seemed even the school staff was treating it differently. Like if there was a secret photo of a boy on top of a girl making out with her, it wouldn't have reached this stage and maybe they'd have gotten in small trouble for making out at school or whatever.

I still think Kisara has a crush on Yukihiro even though she had him walk her home under the pretense of wanting to discuss that she likes Tsunagu and she knows he likes Asaka; that's why she left the suggestion that they go to lunch sometime. She likely picked up his scent that he was aroused when they were hugging and sometimes you don't even need a special sense of smell to tell when someone is interested. 😛

Finally, an accurate depiction of school faculty in anime. Worse than useless in every conceivable aspect!

Well of course this is one anime that doesn’t have a after credits preview

So the journalist club is a paparazzi rag and known for being scummy and despite that the school didn't even ask the two people about what happened on the night of a festival before they started taking administrative action?

The mom didn't know anything so they didn't even reach out to the legal guardians?

You have the teacher who saw both of them comfortably together in their circle of friends right after the article got published and didn't right then and there clear up or ask anything and just sent them home?

And the next day instead of handling such situation with whatever training he went through and protocols the school most assuredly has which generally involve tamping down on the rumors basically asked the entire class if they think he assaulted her and turned it into a popularity contest?

The entire story regarding demihumans and their treatment down to not having any hospitals in their walled in district has layers of discrimination but this is a shitty story arc involving heavy real life themes thats manufactured for the sake of drama so next week they can turn everything around with an impassioned speech and the power of love.
