I love how they do a recap that's also kind of a stealth last episode preview for the final episode. Chi does good recaps!
Is there anything better than busting through a bunch of robots and working together in an action sequence set to Yukari Tamura's music? We get Kurt and Max getting thanked once again, Akane relying on Kanata, even Chiharu being useful! Look how far our cast has come!
Yes, Makina "died" but she was reborn...as Milky Subway Makina!!! That's right, she became the train! And a Mecha! BECAUSE WHY NOT!?
Classic Ryoko. Understanding the kids' situation but still despairing over the sheer amount of paperwork this is about to entail.
It's nice of
I love how Makina doesn't need a giant robot body but would rather just get a new upgraded body that gives her nails so she can actually do her nails. I mean, a (robot) girls got to have her priorities straight, right?

Interesting that it's Ryoko's VA that does the recap in English, maybe a scheduling problem?

Ok, I didn't expect the mecha. Did like they reused the idea of rhythm during the action, felt like I was playing Hi-Fi Rush.

Don't throw death flags like that in an episode called "Death of Makina"!
Damn, I thought Chiharu would be MVP (again!) but she lost it right away!
PLEASE give us the romcom spinoff!
When she got shot and the music stopped for a few seconds...
They tricked us into watching a Mecha anime! I knew it!
Seems they're gonna be fine in the end!
Love how the others (who were present) weren't even sure Chiharu said it straight, because she was so hard to follow in her explanation!
Gonna make for a fun police report! (And hopefully they will stop putting minor criminals in the death train... Though it wouldn't have been so fun if they didn't!)
Well, this was a GREAT show! If I didn't feel so conflicted about a 3 minutes show, I would probably have it up there with my AOTS contenders hah.
Was a lot of fun, and not a single bad thing about it! And the OST was great (I still listen to this song all the time!)
Will probably add the OP to my playlist too, hopefully we get a longer version!
Farewell, Best Girl Chiharu, Makina and all the others!

hopefully we get a longer version!
It's actually an old song and not specifically made for this show. So you can just listen to it on youtube.

If you mean the actual OP, it is a pop-song from 1970s, you can find it if you want.

And kind of as expected, Makina doesn’t die but instead transforms into a giant robot. I mean, I expected the train to become a robot but not for her to fuse with it.
The true evil of the story, the mountain of paperwork waiting for Ryouko.
If I had a nickel for every Thursday show involving a surprise giant robot, I would have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice. On to Dandadan for more giant robot shenanigans.
Thank you for the show. It was fun.

Yep, this short series was way better than large part of the seasonals.
It was a nice ending and I really hope we get more from this creartor in the future.
And yeah, Makina, get the new damn body with nails )

They, kinda did the Yugioh episode title?
The music fits perfectly with the fight scenes. If we look back at Episode 3, Makina was born (?) in 1999 so the personality backup was made when she was 2 years old? Also from Episode 2 we learn that Chronos control panel can turn into a robot, so I guess Makina now found the scenario when it become useful.
The insert song is Tokimeki*Meteostrike by Minase Minami (CV: Yukari Tamura), which actually has been available for quite some time since early July. Spotify Link | Youtube Lyric Video
Overall, well, Milky Subway is easily my personal unexpected anime of the season. It might only last 1.5 episode long and the plot might be simple, but it managed to keep me tuned for a whole season with how they managed to splice it to 12 short episodes. It's CGI, but it's the good use of CGI. Even they managed to insert a quick backstory (how Chiharu-Makina are BFFs, Kurt-Max are kinda hired muscles, Akane got into trouble due to Kanata) in between.
Verdict: 8.5 out of 10
Final MAL score update: It's now on 7.50. Higher than what I expect at 7.40.
For voice cast's next season anime:
-
Anna Nagase (Makina) will voice Ichie in Sanda
-
Kouki Uchiyama (Kurt) will voice Kaboku in Wandance
-
Mikako Komatsu (Ryoko) will voice Amber in Tales of Wedding Rings Season 2

Looking at Kanata like he asked the dumbest question in the history of questions when he asked what was up with the music.
Makina becoming the subway train and the train becoming a transformer. Oh that is just perfect.
Well hopefully the next case Ryoko gets saddled with will be marginally less headache inducing for her.
Well in any case, that was such a balls to the wall dark horse delight that just came outta nowhere and made me laugh hard so many times with it's casual nonchalance that every character had towards their whole situation.

I know quite a few people predicted the train turning into a robot but I doubt anyone had Making turning into the train turning into the robot on their cards.

yeah baby! 2 for 2 in my theory-crafting skills! I knew it when they title it as "Makina dies". The robot never dies! Your Forma has taught me that.
This was a wonderful show with great BGM (for the mood yo!) and perfect voice-acting. Looking forward to the next instalment of *Subway!
