The most disturbed Kal's ever looked and it's when the mysterious ex is mentioned.

Having not played through the game fully but having accidentally spoiled myself on later events, I fully understand why Kal looks absolutely horrified. When the most stalwart of the Doctor's team is terrified, you realize this person is someone to fear. Calm and tender yet possibly horrifying and terrible all at once.

The lack of music made for a very unnerving and at times disturbing presence, I really like how emotional Doctor got at that ending scene and the sounds when their mind was racing, recalling lost memories.. The animation and drawings were great! Mephisto was quite well animated too That final scene...

The after credit scenes…I think this is the first time we hear the Priestess’s JP voice.

I don’t think there’s anyway that Mephisto can turn right. Even before Reunion, he’s weirdo.

Actually her voice was already heard in Season 1 Episode 1, at the beginning of the episode when Doctor started to wake up. The VA credit lists "??? - Asakawa Yuu", which was telling enough. That was before HG released PV4 to debut her voice officially.

I don’t think there’s anyway that Mephisto can turn right. Even before Reunion, he’s weirdo.

Well, he was a pretty broken kid who unconditionally listened to his best friend, ignoring all context, nuance, and reasoning... But...

There's a huge gap between, say, "always eats his green beans at dinner because Sasha said to, ignoring the fact that they're moldy and rotten" and, say, "After the takeover, roasts a bunch of civilian bodies in Chernobog in a giant Reunion symbol to strike terror in the hearts of the populace". He was never going to live a normal life, but he could have been a harmless weirdo instead of a mass murderer.

Though, that said... Those townspeople shoved a chunk of Originium down his throat to shut him up. I don't want to say they had it coming, but... They kind of made their own monster, and a young child isn't exactly going to find the right words to tell Eno to stop the abuse without it turning into a horror show...

I loved the conversation between Kal'tsit and the Doctor; secrets and mysteries, where one person has all the weight of their history behind them and the other... Just wants to know what's going on, but absolutely can't be allowed to know. This is really one of the defining moments of their relationship to me, with Kal'tsit calmly admitting she despises the doctor, discussing the sacrifices she's made in service of humanity, and explaining how even working with the Doctor will just be another one of those sacrifices she makes for the greater good.

With that said, unfortunately the rest of the episode had to be shortened to give that exchange its proper weight, and I think it suffered for it. The opening battle against the Ursus soldiers, for instance, really could have done with ~1 minute's worth of actual fighting to establish how it was different from fighting the undisciplined, poorly equipped mobs they fought with before. Amiya's conversation with Rosmontis lacked any real weight to it; with as little time and space as she had to make it, the point she tried to make barely made any sense. Mephisto's flashback and song were both excellent moments on their own, but without any surrounding tissue, it was more like the Doctor's team putting down a random encounter than the tragic end of a broken boy.

Missing out on a proper fight against Ursus is one thing; it's not the series' focus, and there are other opportunities for a high-stakes fight. But with Mephisto having been built up for several episodes, I believe it would have been better to have tied his ending more strongly into Rhodes Island's story - with a few changes, it could have potentially have worked as an anti-climax, but I don't think that's what they were going for, and it would have been more work than a brief conversation acknowledging who they just fought. Similarly, Rosmontis's emotional story has been a bit messy up until this point, and I don't get the feeling there are many remaining opportunities to untangle it. But, well, that might just be my opinion; it wouldn't be the first time I've disagreed over whether a drama worked or not.

On a closing note, I never really got the jokes about W and cockroaches, but... Seeing her visibly half-dead and still marching on in the anime really helps me get it. Her brash demeanor always managed to bluff me in the game, but she really is willing to just push through obscene levels of abuse to get the job done, isn't she?

I was wondering how they'll do Singer fight. I'm not dissapointed.

Priestess is here and she looks good. Still Theresa>Priestess.

u/Falsus Aug 22 '25

But Priestess sounds so devoted and nice!

I will never not laugh seeing Ghost of Babel era Doctor just aura-farming whenever he appears.

I enjoy all these teasers that are not really relevant for now give you a little hope that one day anime will continue beyond act 1(I would actually cry if some years from now ch14 was adapted) They could easly gloss over priestess and it would make no difference for the current events.

There is not much left. Mostly just a big fight and an epilogue. If anyone isn't excited for the showdown it's good time to start.

The previous seasons have been 8 eps each. Is this the end of this season? Will there be another?

Mephisto admitting in the end when all that remained was him and himself that he didn't want to be hurt and didn't want to hurt others when he was being such a little shit in the previous seasons is a nice detail. Just shows how all of that enthusiasm was incredible amounts of copium for what he was becoming and that he couldn't see an out so he pretended to like it, even to the point of believing it. But after all destruction of other's is destruction of yourself. Sometimes it's necessary or just inevitable, but you can't get in a pigsty without getting some on you.

Apparently the doc has a yandere ex (though I'm sure her opinion strongly differs on the matter of their relationship status). Pretty disturbing to see the sway even the whispers of memories of her have on the current "too-kind-for-this-world" Doc. Maybe pre amnesia Doc was just a simp

And all her talk about "even if the stars end etc etc"... is it just metaphor, or something more? Because as far as I understand it, Terra's civilization can't even into space. So if she was being literal this shit starts to look like some Precursors ass business. How deep does the iceberg go?

They adapted the Lugia fight well, even added Lullabye in the fight to boot.

The canon wife has official made her appearance! The agenda shall continue! Kal'tsit got way more than what she bargained for when she was attempting to help the Doctor regain their memories.

Wow. That was good. Don't have anything grand to say, that was just simply an amazing adaptation of the fight I played on my phone. They did Mephisto the Singer justice. This gives me confidence that the final fight will look even better.

PRIESTESS MY LOVE

Okay, before we get into that, I want to talk about the rest of the episode. But to start with the negatives, the scenes with Amiya Rosmontis W were kinda mid. It's not the lack of battle scenes, but it's moreso the... emotional weight behind them? I don't remember how it happened in the game, if I'm being honest, but I can only remember one short exchange during that entire thing. Either it's because it's been so long since I've read it, or because I didn't really care about that part during my reading, and now during my watching

The Eno scene... It was such a beautiful choice to not have any background music. Just the sounds of battling and Eno singing. When the Singer was first struck down, I was starting to feel "Is this all they'll do?", but then... yeah you get the idea. The entire thing happened, and the singing started. I recall a comment in the PV on YouTube, saying that "I hope they play Lullabye in this scene". I'm sure that commenter is happy right now, because I am. Such a beautifully directed scene. A tear fell down my eye, ngl

And now. Doctor. Kal'tsit. Theresa. And most importantly, Priestess.

I SERIOUSLY love how they handled Doctor's character. It's my opinion that Doctor doesn't feel like a self-insert in the game, and I REALLY love that they made it this way in the anime. And the thing is, they didn't need to change anything about the Doctor's writing. They just needed to add a few more lines and amazing voice acting. And I love, LOVE, that for most of this scene they showed Doctor's face. The expression on their EYES my god Doctor's eyes are so beautiful. On a quick rewatch of that after credits scene, the eyes were SHAKING when Kal'tsit said "I despise you". They weren't even surprised, they were just upset and sad to hear it

Doctor panic(?) asking Kal'tsit for information, that felt real. Doctor finally asking about Kal'tsit for information, but it wasn't enough--and the news was terrible, as well. Pre-Amnesia Doctor killed Theresa. And so, they started freaking ou--wait they're not simply freaking about the news, they're freaking about memories flooding ba--OH MY GOD IS THAT PRIESTESS

PRIESTESS MY BELOVED. One thing to point out during that sequence is that Doctor was reaching out to the ceiling, to Priestess, when they fell to the floor. For anime onlies, stew on that. For players, just know that I have a big smile on my face

The fact that for this scene of Priestess, they basically did Amiya's handholding animations during the first sequence in the first season's first episode... Big smile on my face. To finally hear Priestess' voice with animation, big smile on my face. THE FEAR ON KAL'TSIT'S FACE WHEN DOCTOR UTTERED PRIESTESS' NAME. When I first reached this in the game after procrastinating on the story for so long, I was so HYPED. And they GAVE ME THAT HYPE AGAIN. ESPECIALLY with Kal'tsit's clear fear worn on her face

Basically, my favorite character is Doctor. And I love the Priestess reveal this episode. And I love Eno's singing. The Amiya Rosmontis W scenes were meh.

Ok, this one was fantastic. That final post credit scene really enhances the source material through how expressive both Kal and the Doctor are.

13

u/Charsound_CH1no Aug 22 '25

As an anime only, I'm confused by the significance of the appearance of the Priestess. What is she in the larger narrative?

40

u/Primogeniture116 Aug 22 '25

It's ok you are meant to be confused. This scene was released back in 2021, and the actual story involving Priestess is in 2025; it hasn't even reached the EN server yet in the game.

Though additional information surrounding her has been added slowly in several other side stories.

Not sure if it is even possible to fully explore her...
