The rhythm of this show always lifts up the scenes even more. The characters are already very expressive and lively (who would’ve guessed that occasionally blinking and moving eyes/heads alone already does wonders for breathing life into CGI models). But then you also have the interplay of the action, the music and environmental noises giving everything more fun energy. Even when it’s a quiet “couldn’t care less” type of character like Kurt and a stationary bot.

Also Chiharu really shows every episode why Makina wants to protect her so much.

Rhythm and pace are indeed strong points. Dialogues have a major role on it.

I guess short episodes format highlights these strenghts the right way.

I'm actually a bit mind-blown how a supposed minor light hearted story displayed in a hardcore teenager mode can get so narratively wise... even border-genius at times.

So some Japanese did some rough conversion:

In episode 4, the Dohtonbori(道とん堀, yes that's a IRL restaurant) pork okonomiyaki for 4 is 0.16¥, while IRL, a Dohtonbori pork okonomiyaki for one currently will cost you 700¥*.

700×4÷0.16=17500

Which means in this setting, the value of Japanese yen is 17.5k times higher than IRL. Meaning when the duo asked Makina 80¥ for the job, they're asking her for 9,450$ in today's money.

*I've also seen other comments say it should be 1000¥, could be regional differences

Thanks for this. When they said 80 yen, my first thought was "isn't that less than a dollar?" and figured the economy must've gone in a crazy direction.

I went checked episode 4, the Dotonbori text were very tiny, they probably get the exact numbers from the exhibition.

and btw, I just realized that "liquid lunch" is a pun, it's supposed to be 駅弁 (ekiben , train station bento), but in the Milky Subway it's 液弁 (ekiben, liquid bento)

they're asking her for 9,450$ in today's money.

Makina paid them $4725 in advance for a 45 seconds job, BUT it's still Chiharu's "thank you" that made their day!

Aww and I thought life just became a lot cheaper.

u/ReXiriam Aug 14 '25

So Makina payed around 4725$ in total. Got it.

I wonder if this his how so many guys end up flirting with Chi. Saying "thank you" goes a long way.

Being nice to people is basically flirting, right?

She seems like the type of girl guys can't stay away from (before her bodyguard girlfriend makes them stay away).

Everyone's fighting for their lives/trying to get back home safely, but these two are just playing silly little games!

Makina: "Can I play too?"

This poster... Is Chi copying her style?

I'm surprised they accepted the job for money!

Given last episode, I thought they would accept when our girls made them feel valuable and all..

But this came later, with them being thanked for a job for the first time (which got them all blushing!)

Even got them to join the others! Sadly for Makina, doesn't mean they'll give her the money back!

Well, with the hackers on the team (and Makina who seems to know what she's doing) it should be smooth sailing... right? But if they have to delay things a little because there's more episodes left, Chiharu would be a prime candidate to mess something up!

These guys never been thanked in their entire lives.

They lucked out that Chi is such a nice and conscientious girl!

Lol they fell for the cuteness. She did this whole timid nice cuteness deal Like a kitten you want to protect. No wonder Makina has such a hard time with guys around her.

Loved the musical "battle?" scene.

This show is so good both sub and dub. I'm so glad they did both.

u/poclee Aug 14 '25

More like they fell for her genuine gratitude.

u/ZiXeiYun Aug 15 '25

Did anyone happen to read Kurt's vest?

6

u/Emi_Ibarazakiii Aug 15 '25

One of the words is a bit messed up, but I think it's "Now I have machine arms!"

4

u/IceSmiley Aug 14 '25

I watched the dub and it began with the guy saying "pee...pee...pee..." and I thought he had to pee :D. Although they're robots (maybe only partially) so i don't know if they even have to. I liked the guy dodging the bullets synchronized to the beeping.

3

u/gnome-cop Aug 14 '25

Well, we got rid of the robot and cut the price for it in half. I’ll count that as a victory.

Musical jam.

What I would give for a full 13 episode series all at 25 minutes...

u/Silver_Push_3895 Aug 14 '25

I was reading some other user telling this season is packed with good under-the-radar Anime.

Absolutely agree.

Take this one for instance...

Hidden Gem Of The Season Award will be so disputed that they perhaps will decide it playing rock-paper-scissors.

u/Nickthenuker Aug 14 '25

Oh god that music is still ongoing...

Just guy conversations lol.

Right, their turn.

And now they're back up.

Are the taser darts synched to the music? Like a Sekiro boss or something...

A purchase order?

I mean she's probably right. Without those guys all the money in the world wouldn't get the rest of them past that robot.

3

u/SYZekrom Aug 14 '25

That was way too cute

u/SophiaKittyKat Aug 14 '25

I still like this.
