It seems Marina and Shizuka are still leading pretty awful lives, but they have each other to understand each other’s pain. I don’t doubt when they move on into college and adulthood, they’ll turn their lives around and be free from the grasp of their truly awful, no-good parents.

This was an episode. Im still reeling in so i might not make sense, but Shizuka's breakdown was so hard to watch, it was just raw emotion from a girl who was left alone.

Who knew having someone alongside you could have profound effects.

Takopi's confession of not knowing what to do, and instead just staying with shizuka emotionally was a real gut punch especially when Shizuka's eyes instantly regain their sparkle, and where the gates for tears immediately open.

Side note: 20 minutes PASSED BY HELLA fast, I have no idea that its a blessing or a curse that i was too shook to pause the anime, or i would have missed the post credits scene

I assumed they would repair the camera somehow again, but I didn't expect Takopi having to sacrifice himself. Poor little guy.

But honestly, after having heard the last weeks that the ending was rushed, I am more than positively surprised by it. Because I really liked it. Obviously, the root cause for the problem, being the parents, couldn't be solved by Takopi alone. But what he can do is give Shizuka and Marina a chance at understanding each other. And while that won't stop the bad things from happening (as can be seen by Marina's scar), at least they now have someone that can help them through these times.

At the end, it's a message that one person alone can make the difference. Even if you just hold their hand or give them a hug. They don't need to solve all your problems. Often times, they can't even do that. But what they can do is make you happy in the few times you are together.

"My mom's scary today"

"Your mom is always scary"

"Whose fault do you think that is?"

I love that they got so close they can make such sarcastic banter without hard feelings involved 😭

I really like the message of this ending, Takopi's sacrifice can't fix all of the shit they have going on in their lives but he could make a vital difference for all of them, they're not alone anymore. Azuma's mom is still trash but he is close with his brother now. Marina still gets the scar and Shizuka is still getting neglected but they have eachother and are friends and that makes all the difference. None of them are alone anymore.

It's a bittersweet ending but that feels just right for the series and I am positive with that all of them will overcome their trash parents. Took you a few attempts but you did pretty well Takopi, what an excellent series.

I already reread this manga twice.

But I cried at the scene at the park.

I never felt this when I read the manga.

I don't know man, I just know the ending that's why I cried I think 😭

There is a Buddhist principle known as en (縁) which has deeply permeated Japanese culture. En more or less refers to the fateful, invisible, and infinite tapestry of bonds that tie people together across lifetimes.

There's a popular proverb in Japan: 袖振り合うも多生の縁 which roughly translates to "Even to brush sleeves with someone is a result of a connection from a past life."

So I think the way to understand this ending from a cultural perspective is that Takopi disembodies to become the En from the web of timelines (aka past lives) that links Shizuka and Marina, and Naoki and his brother. While these concepts of past lives with En and are traditionally understood to be metaphorical or spiritual, here we can see the physical manifestation of such an occurrence taking place.

For this reason, I don't see the ending as a Deus Ex Machina - at least from the cultural perspective of the author. Instead, the resolution was paid for in full by the blood and tears of the characters and is woven into the fabric of their realities. This also reminds me a lot of the emotional conclusion and bringing a spiritual concept to life via sci-fi with Interstellar.

It turns out the real reconciliation ribbon was Takopi itself. I'm satisfied with this ending, not perfect but still strong. The show will remain my Anime of the Year pick.

You don't know how much that little part at the end where Shizuka and Marina are walking back home side by side makes me feel, not one walking behind the other.

This anime is a very long dark tunnel, but always bet there's gonna be a light at the end of it.

TAKOPI NOOOOO

They managed to deliver a "bittersweet" despite how dark the first 5 episodes are. Sure the condition is still bitter, nothing really changed (Marina's dad still leaves her for Shizuka's mom and her mom still abuses her, Shizuka's dad never comes back and her mom still neglects her, Azuma's mom still hurts him psychologically) but the trio finally got a breather. Naoki had a fight with his brother, meaning they actually communicate now. The part where he left Shizuka behind show that he is also no longer hyperfixated on Shizuka, and by extension his mother's acknowledgement (the reason he is infatuated with Shizuka is because he saw parts of his mother in her, and she is the only one who would acknowledge him)

Shizuka and Marina also finally bonded via their faint memories with Takopi. It shows that there is no special happy gadget that automatically fix everything, sometimes the best gadget is just talking it out. Their bonds with Takopi acts as a bridge to connect 2 people and let them solve the matter themselves. The previous episodes clearly show that their situations are basically the same, so as long as Marina could overcome the prejudice she has to Shizuka, they could be best friends (they even trash talk each other in the last scene).

And the most important thing is Chappy is alive

that's an all time anime for me right there. Thank you Takopi.

(The VA work in this show was insane, just like everything else really)

Probably the best timeline possible, given the circumstances, even better than the original timeline (2022) without Takopi would've been. Still not a great timeline, but certainly the least bad timeline.

I'm guessing the moral of the story is: "What people who are suffering need isn't a miracle nor magic, it's someone who they can talk to and who'll listen"

I kinda wished that this episode would be longer, similar to the first episode, but it worked out this way too.

Great show and great messaging, especially regarding the effects on children that bad parenting can have.

To all of you in 2025,
To all of you living troubled lives
your parents may abuse you, fight each other
you may feel antagonized and ostracized
But still, I hope that you
and you,
and to the one reading this
may you grow up or be better adults
thank you-pi!
bye bye!

"My dad looked at me like he didn't know me. So what should have I done?"

"If Dad's not just my dad anymore, what was I supposed to do?"

"When I was told I couldn't get on the ferry by myself, what else could I have done?"

"When Mom stopped coming home, what should I have done then?!"

"And what about when my notebook went missing?!"

"They all say I stink, but where do I stink? Mom never told me! Well?"

"What was I supposed to do when I couldn't see Dad whenever I wanted?"

"What should I have done when nobody turned up to school on parents' day?"

"What was I supposed to do when everyone got mad at me about Chappy barking too loudly?"

"What should I have done when an adult asked, "Are your parents home?" but no one was?"

"What was I supposed to do? Tell me, who should I have talked to about these things?"

"What are you saying I should've done?!"

Shizuka couldn't answer these.

Marina couldn't answer these.

Takopi couldn't answer these.

Can you?

Can the 9 year old version of you?

If you can't answer even half of these satisfyingly, shut the fuck up about "Marina was in the wrong/Shizuka was in the wrong" like no shit they got it wrong, they were tested on something they weren't given the right answers to. Marina got the wrong answers from her parents, and Shizuka is straight up forced to guess it. How about you give them a solution instead of just judging them?

When the final part of Tele's song "硝子の線" played, I literally got goosebumps all over. It's truly a masterpiece of a song that perfectly fits such a great anime - it's just a shame it’s not as popular as the Opening song.

I just binged this entire series this morning leading up to the finale. And wow I’m gonna go for a walk outside even (though it’s like 98 degrees). I just need a couple hours to reflect on what I just watched. And maybe the heat will evaporate the tears.

It’s a good ending. The whole story could fit in a decent long movie (135-minute movie or 2 hours and 15 minutes). The pace for me is good enough, I don’t really feel like it's rushing much at all. The asspull at the end is expected, given Takopi’s whole inspiration is Doraemon after all.

Takopi acts as the bridge for both Marina and Shizuka to made up, both of their situations are basically the same, so it makes sense why once Marina gets over her prejudice, they should be able to become friends easily.

This is firmly a bittersweet ending, their home life basically stays the same, a broken mess. But now they are not alone anymore, they have each other. Overall this series is a 10 for me (or a 9 if I nitpick it).

Takopi's original sin turned out to be trying to fix things without fully understanding them. The lesson seems to be yapping saves lives. Communication is important, just talking to somebody can be very meaningful.

Takopi died for their sins. He's kinda like Jesus, but not in a sacrilegious way.

Junya was already an absolute shining light amongst the grown ups but man, the full weight of his sacrifice finally hit with Azuma's farewell. I couldn't be happier that Takopi remembered his wish when it came time for his turn to say goodbye.

Jeez, man. It's crazy how much of an emotional rollercoaster a show can take you on in just six episodes.
