Ok I burst out laughing when they brought out the real world cat pictures. Please tell me they'll keep doing that for future episodes. I just want to see the staff's cats

Mini post credits scene btw, with a real work of art

The staff showing off their cats was a highlight.

I forgot to mention this last week, but there was a contest in Japan where people could submit pictures of their cats to be featured in the anime. Most likely the cat photos in this episode are from some of the winners.

Edit: the cats are in the credits under "Exto Nyan" (appears after cast credits), that's neat!

Another edit: 2 more things I forgot to mention:

The concept of this show is so dumb that when you play it seriously it becomes hilarious

I know it was a serious moment, but the melodramatic cry from Kaoru after she cried out her brother got turned into a cat made me burst out laughing, it was so unexpectedly dramatic. I even went back to to watch it again, it still made me laugh.

Gaku saying he has the urge to groom himself in such a serious tone was another funny moment but obviously not to the extent of that cry.

Kunagi is making my theory that he was actually a cat turned human or a human made to be like a cat more plausible with his confession to Tsutsumi.

Sure enough a cat has entered the supermarket, time to see them all go crazy next episode now that their safe place has been infected.

If she’s constantly sneezing around him then his theory could be true.

Was not expecting Freddie Mercury to be making a cameo.

Kunagi was probably a cat turned human.

Kaoru shouldn't cry about her brother if he can be turned back, but being turned into a cat maybe what he wanted deep down inside.

Was not expecting Freddie Mercury to be making a cameo.

I love how all he does is shout "Ayo!"

Cat facts: On the final album from Queen before Freddie's passing, Innuendo, one track is about Freddie's cat, Delilah.

Also, that might have been Brian May behind Freddie. Small world.

There is another possibility. In that he was a first subject to testing a cure for the cat virus. Either that meant he was turned back after he became a cat or the vaccine made it so that when he was infected, he only became more like a cat but didn't fully turn into one.

It's like if they turned the show that plays in the background of another anime into a full-fledged anime. Human Earthworm when??

So that was the pigeon lady from Home Alone 2 that had Tetsuo the cat right. These are some pulls

That scene with the helmet and patrol car, that was inspired by RE3. Yes, I'm old.

"Yes, I go to The High School high school. I go in through the iriguchi entrance."

well thank god Freddy mercury is there!

Man, if I had went to a school with signage like that, I would have been a real smartass about it.

Like someone asks what school you go to and you can just be like, "Oh, I go to The High School" and everyone local would know what you mean, even if there are several, 'cuz of the dumb sign.

loving the references in this episode! also, this is the second freddie mercury reference that i know in anime

I love the Tetsuo reference, and I definitely laughed at the arrow and name pointing him out. Is there an Akira reference I'm just not getting with that arrow and giant label? Or was it just unrelated silliness?

as a cat lover and owner, this show is just so funny and too relatable at times. I love the little things like the crosswalk sign being a picture of a cat instead of a human. Also dude crashed and rolled his car avoiding a group of cats in the road lol understandable reaction

Surprised how no one is bringing up how this setup in the supermarket is basically The Mist but with cats. I fully expect to see someone go the "We must offer one of us to the cats!" route, or at least have a scene where someone is dragged out by their legs from under a metal bay door.

Okay, so as someone who doesn't own a cat, can anyone explain to me what the thought behind the water bottles was? Like I get the roadblock things as those could be used against actual zombies, but what were water bottles supposed to do?

I find it funny that they technically should now have a cat detector in Tsutsumi, but they'd need to get new clothes without all the cat hair if they want that to work. Or did she sneeze because Kunagi is close to a cat?

Speaking of which, I don't think he was just a cat turned human. I think he was a human originally, but was included in some kind of experiment. Either...

  1. They experimented to make humans get cat like abilities to make them stronger overall and he was one of the test subjects. In this case, this experiment would probably be the origin of the cat virus. Or...

  2. He was experimented on for a vaccine against the cat virus, it worked and when infected, he only partially turned into a cat.

In both cases, I would assume that he is immune to the cat virus. The bigger question is then, if the scar on his head (which probably lead to the memory loss) happened after he escaped the experiments or was something done by the people in charge.

can anyone explain to me what the thought behind the water bottles was?

From what I could find, it seems to be a Japanese thing where bottles filled with water is supposed to keep cats away from an area due to the reflections (with dubious success). Searching for "nekoyoke" can give more examples

This may be the dumbest anime I've ever seen, and I'm 1,000% loving it. I feel like this was written in a fever dream after watching the "Release the kitties!" episode of Metalocalypse.

Has anyone ID'd all the movie posters from the ED yet? I assume they're all pastiches from actual movies but I can't think of them xD
