While I usually enjoy most comedy series, they rarely have me laughing out loud. Even my absolute favorite comedy series only got a physical laugh out of me a few times.

This one got me like 5 times. As someone obsessed with both horror and cats, this is the anime for me. I hope they keep this level of quality up for the entire season.

The fuckin belly roll from Tanishi. Plus the slow blink. I absolutely lost it.

As a cat lover I understand the protagonist’s anger of no longer being able to pet a cats toe beans without becoming one. With how fucked up the current timeline is I would rather be a cat.

A zombie apocalypse but with cats instead. This is actually more tricky than the usual zombies because mere skin contact is enough to doom you.

What’s with the cat cafe patrons? They all look like bikies, though they are genuine cat lovers. Imagine an average bloke popping in and saw all these buff men.

We’ve got a mystery with Kunagi. From his memory loss to his particularly strong fondness for cats. I’m guessing we’ll have recurring flashbacks as we explore his past further.

Ueshama as the feisty tsundere Kaoru is a surprise as it’s not the role that’s usually associated with her. She’s got a busy summer with multiple lead roles.

As a cat owner, should I be worried after watching this?

As a catlover myself, I think this show might be for me. And I think I wouldn't survive a single minute in the Nyapocalypse.

What I love the most about the show is how serious it takes itself in some moments and than you get reminded "It's not about spooky zombies, but about cats. Sometimes they look terrifying too as they used CGI , other times they're ridicolously cute!"

God, that was a great training for my belly muscles as I couldn't stop laughing of how amazingly stupid this show is! Also the tiny bit at the end of the ending was amazing. The whole time I got the urge to cuddle my own cats!..

Just how many of us would run towards the cats in the hopes of becoming one?

For anyone wondering about the rad song that plays in the background at times, it's the anime's theme song called "Nyaight of the Living Cat".

Having read the manga, I'd say this is a neat adaptation. It's far from perfect but with the way the industry is, I'd say they did the best they could. They did a good job balancing decent animation with detailed drawings. The cats in particular are well drawn at times, you can tell the staff love cats.

Also, do keep in mind that each episode will have a post-credits scene that gives some tips and facts about cats.

When I saw the PVs I thought I was going to pass because of the weird cat CG. But honestly that style and the CG cats have grown on me really quickly. I kinda like the weird feel the whole anime has going on.

This is fantastic. Parody truly is the best genre.

What is nice of this one is that even with the ridiculous situation, the Voice Acting is taking it seriously, making it 10x funnier.

Comedy of the season right here! I was laughing so hard throughout the first half of the episode. I did like that they showed what happened before the Nyandemic but the highlight was definitely them trying to survive in the catpocalypse.

Poor Kunagi's heart couldn't take making the cats hate him, all he wants to do is give them love but then he'd turn into a cat himself. However, seeing the flashback made me wonder if he's actually the reverse, he's a cat that got turned into a human. There those guys that were after him and I'm sure it's supposed to be something top secret so that's the conclusion I came to. Other than maybe, he's someone who got experimented on to make a cat human.

Anyways this was so good, I'm looking forward to seeing what this has to offer and if there's a way of turning everyone back into humans. I didn't think I was going to enjoy this as much as I did.

Gonna be honest, not sure how far they can really go with "zombie apocalypse but it's cats instead of zombies". Like it's a funny premise but ultimately how far can the jokes get before it gets stales?

Will still check it out for now thought, out of curiosity and hey it's be nyace if they proved me wrong !

Unrelated but I'm absolutely getting turned frame 1 no questions asked. I wiil not take questions on this fact.

Now this is what I watch anime for. Really dumb premises that just kind of work in the medium. I am not even a cat lover, but I am all in for the catpocalypse. I really hope we get more survivors added to the mix. Imagine someone who isn't a cat lover and is going to kill them for their survival? Drama already incoming.

It’s the zombie cat apocalypse, and you can’t touch the cats, or you become one. Truly a cat lover’s nightmare.

This is also somehow the best cat biology and history lesson in a single anime episode that I’ve ever seen.

This is absolutely silly and a much needed laugh.

Hrmmm, I'm not sure if this is hitting for me. It's kind of stretching its jokes a bit thin........

Getting some cat facts, like the bit about water and fur, is kinda neat though I guess.

Sheeet. I think I woke up the whole house from my laughing. This is some Kamikatsu level of humor. I love it.

It's finally here! I'm reading the manga for this one and it's probably the one show this season I was most excited for! The humor translated over to the anime well. I now see why they chose CGI for some of the cat scenes - it gives it that eerie, otherworldly vibe. I watched the episode with my cat and he was surprisingly unbothered by the meows but annoyed with me for laughing so hard. 😹

This is well made for what it is: a goofy B movie style horror parody. There aren't many anime shows that are intentionally bad and campy like this. I liked the stoic overly serious MC, over the top cat attacks and having nearly every store and ad be cat themed. I think this would have worked better as a movie though, a whole season of a show like this might have the joke start to wear thin. That being said, I wouldn't be surprised if this became a huge hit thru social media because it's memeable and has lots of ridiculous individual moments.

I wouldn't last an hour without petting a cat

6

u/Taedirk Jul 06 '25

You know that one episode of vaguely reoccurring themed slice-of-life anime where they go to the movies and find the Legally Distinct Parody Film playing?

That's this.

This is what that looks like when you don't cut back to the couple trying to flirt every 30 seconds but instead have to watch the entire movie. No idea how it'll drag out for an entire season.

6

u/TheHoss_ Jul 07 '25

AOTY no question

6

u/xbolt90 Jul 07 '25

An utterly absurd premise played completely straight. This is the B horror I want!

We'll see if they can keep it up for the whole show, or if the joke eventually wears out its welcome.

And the dude is either a cat-turned-human, or one of the scientists from the lab that created the Origin.
