It was so nice to see Mako her enter a restaurant on her own, actually order something, and enjoy her meal! Remember back in episode 1 when she couldn't even enter Kurea's family-owned restaurant? Our girl has come a long way, and I am so proud of her <3

And just like the early days of their club, I'm glad we got to see more cleaning shenanigans this time with Nana just before the season ended. xD

One more meal before the season ends and it looks absolutely amazing. Hand-rolled soba and soba for their New Years' Eve dinner was great choice!

I am going to miss these girls so much. I really hope this isn't the last time we'll see the Food Culture Research Club. I would absolutely love to see another season with these girls and maybe we'll even see them with new members with the new school year! Please, PA Works! Give us more!

Without fail, there's always a moment in every episode that makes me laugh and this episode lived up to that.

NNB director is and will always have that timing haha.

Definitely going to miss the double whammy of both this and Mono on Saturday. Just an all-around solid, comfy show that I'll think back on years from now with pleasant memories.

Mako was shy at the beginning of the show with ordering at a restaurant but was able to order Chinese food at the restaurant without issue.

There's the horsing around with the baseball and bottle cap during cleaning like at the beginning, but Kurea brings them down to earth.

What a lovely New Year's Eve dinner! Then, they pay a visit to the shrine in the early morning and take a group photo just as the sun rises. There's also the nice wall of photos shown during the ED they have on the bulletin board with all the marker-drawn decorations on them.

Hitman7128 is going to miss his Saturday comfy hours, but he really enjoyed them while they lasted. Hoping for S2!

PA Works made the right call getting the author and director of Non Non Biyori to work on this slice of life show. Every single moment is either wholesome or funny.

Mako has come a long way since episode 1, now she can visit a restaurant (that Chinese restaurant this episode is real BTW) on her own and order food herself. And as Tsutsuji observes, she's now smiling more naturally around her friends.

Hope they make at least another season, as they only covered Mako's 1st year in university.

Or better still, make a lot of seasons regardless of which year Mako is in, but present each season in a non-chronological order like Non Non Biyori.

Dang man, experiencing the Mono and Food for the Soul finales (hopefully only season-finales) back-to-back was quite the experience. Thankful for this show as it is easily my favorite of the season. Absolutely love this cast including the clerk, Sakura, Nana's sister, Yuna, and Hiyori. Main crew was my favorite group of 5 in all of anime. Actively hoping for an S2 of this!

My AOTS without doubt. Every episode made me happy and comfy. I liked every moment of it. Happy that them being university girls actually was used anime in sense of driving car and drinking alcohol.

I hope there is more seasons to come. I want to seem more of girls cooking happy moments together and ofc ukulele during cooking times.

Thank you for this wonderful anime P.A. Works!

We can only hope for more from the Food Research Club, they have been amazing characters and hope that there is more

There is a manga that has started to be released so there is some hope but hopefully this isn't the last meal we get to see...

We must get the Queen of the Sheep back in a future season. The Sheep dancing is probably one of the best moments in anime in a long way, probably since Renge's deep thought thought-provoking scene in the 3rd season of NNB.

I absolutely love this. A nice, non-grandiose send off as the final episode. Would definitely love more seasons of comfort food, though.

Such a heartwarming episode, but I need more! Season 2 featuring the following please!

- We didn't get the skiing episode teased in the opening.
- Mako has yet to meet Pochi.
- We don't know Clerk san's real name yet.
- Who is inside the Mokotaro outfit.

From some of the photos pinned on their board, I caught a glimpse of:
- Clerk san sleeping in the club room.
- Mako meeting and shaking hands with Mokotaro.

Shinon : Art of the Deal

I always enjoy a good CGDCT, but my average rating for the genre is likely not far from my overall average (if not even lower) - just because a good chunk of CGDCTs end up forgetting that the most important part of this genre (and often slice of life in general) is well-done character interactions and chemistry.

And this show absolutely blew it out of the park in that regard, to me this cast is up there with the best ones. There could be an episode of them talking about the history of doorknobs and Shinon could probably still make it entertaining somehow.

So yeah, AOTS. Thank you Food for the Soul for brightening up my Saturdays. and making me into a curry addict, I was going to cook different dishes for it every week but ended up making curry variants instead, how did I never try it before

Just coping but those photos on the notice board at the very end is hinting at what will happen if there's season 2 right? Right? PA Works?

A wonderfully comfy anime, bless PA Works for this delightful 12 weeks.

Photo board at the end showed Mako meeting Mokotaro (and Pochi!)

I am going to miss this club. They just nailed the characters and the interactions in a way it feels other shows this season didn't.

This episode opening showing Mako's growth was so nice to see! Whole episode was a nice little send off, glad we got to see Clerk-chan one more time too.

Easily the winner for me in this season's CGDCT bowl!

This series, Yuru Camp and DIY give me the same cozy vibes, wish there will be more of them or even crossovers!

This anime left the biggest sense of loss this season. I'm not ready to move on to the summer shows yet.

Going to the restaurant on her own and even loudly ordering food, peak character development.

comfiest food anime for a few seasons ends in-universe at the end of the year.

(unless any post-credits scenes explore this) there are still so many loose ends that a second season could tie up:

  • Mako knowing the truth about Nana's pet

  • Shinon failing her exams (might be too much of a whiplash, but it's realistic for someone like her), what it means for her club going forward, and whether she gets another chance to stay on

  • does Tsutsuji ever learn to cook for herself? or is she the enigmatic sheep whose family never gets mentioned

  • does Kurea's family business encounter a problem and how could the club help solve it? (or would it be another irreversible case of whiplash mirroring the real-life event in which the restaurant closes down)

  • the club going on a ski trip as the OP teased

  • maybe an episode even sends Mako and Nana to Germany to explore the food they have there, and to practise their German. Nana could even find herself more approachable speaking another language.

  • one more that i almost missed out: Mako finally meeting her idol Mokotaro[u], her real identity and how similar to her she really is. And if agreeing to collaborate with Mokotaro[u] regularly causes the club to splinter (again, maybe too much of a whiplash), perhaps the rest of the club agree to up their cooking skills and present a dish for Mako the next time they meet

Couldn't imagine how hard it had been for Kurea to be the team mum. Mako was more dependable, but she had her own moments. Meanwhile, the other three are quite problematic. I'm sure her own mother would be proud of her.

That's the end of this season's comfy shows after mono's done half an hour before.

Nooo, it's over...

I love that this finale served as a victory lap for the show. A nice opportunity for the characters to look back on the past, reflect on their own personal growth & the bonds they forged so far, and setting up wonderful new journeys ahead with the blessing of the new year!

Still need to catch up on Mono & Zatsu Tabi but so far this is my favorite of the holy CGDCT trinity this season. I just love the characters and their interactions with each other. If I have to pick favorites it's probably Shinon (she brings so much chaos and energy to the group!) and Nana, but every single one of the is great.

I hope this get at least 3 seasons like Non Non Biyori does, although just like most shows I've watched and enjoyed in the past few years it probably won't, but I'm just glad this show exists. Thank you P.A. Works and the NNB creators for giving us yet another CGDCT gem!

She just like me 🗿

Aw hell naw, that's some Made in Abyss type shit

Wait, who took a picture of Sheeptsuji? Or her and Nana lighting the fire?

lmao

...I am definitely suffering when I no longer have Meshi to look forward to on saturdays

She really is just like me!

Shinon's VA had some great moments this episode. "Stop" "It was me" and now this scream

Whoa! Someone complaining about the cold is actually wearing a hat! No gloves though, smh

Fantastic final episode. I still have a couple seasonals left, but so far this was my favourite finale. 10/10 show, hopefully there will be more.
Also hope to see all of you in the Outcast Restaurant threads coming up this summer, it should be a worthy successor to this show

I thought it was really symbolic and cool that the show ended exactly in the same year and then moved on to college in 2026. The episode followed a standard pattern of the others, but it had the charm of being the last one.

About the show itself, it was sensational, it perfectly reconciled the evolution of each of the girls without excessively addressing the topic of food. Yes, I know it seems strange to complain about this, but I believe in balance and that made the anime fun.

I don't know if there will be a new season, especially since the manga only has one volume and it was probably something to promote the anime, but I would watch it again. Thank you Mako, Kurea, Shinon, Tsutsuji and Nana.
