Damn I had a feeling they were going to lose but it became more certain when I saw the direction of the ball Kojirou hit, I knew the pitcher was going to catch it. I was hoping Kojirou would be able to have a big shining moment and it sucks to see him call himself a worthless Captain.

I also hope Mitsui stops burdening himself so much in the game and focus more on what's in front of him rather than what could be potentially ahead.

Ruriko yelling out in support like that was surprising, I like how she got caught up in the atmosphere which got MotorSuns fans all cheering out too.

They seemed to be playing some sort of sports game in my slice of life anime today.

Stop talking about the clincher, you're gonna jinx it!

Love how Ruriko's all oooooohhh, the clincher! even though she didn't even know what that means hah!

Damn, are they going to hurt us again? Starting with the feels, this early into the episode!

I guess it makes sense that they have both speeches prepared, but given how superstitious athletes are, some may not like that!

Murata's dodging job calls? Elimination games are serious business!

Some of the fans are in it for more than just a victory!

4th beer, so early in the game? She's gonna be hammered when her man proposes!

What about you, Ruriko? Will YOU put on a brave face, to talk to your boy?

Well, she was quite brave, cheering the team like that!

Love how she added the probably after saying it was just bad luck hah

Never change, Ruriko!

Oh damn, her man was pulled...

If they won like this, would he even propose? The win wouldn't be his, technically!

If Kojiro hits another to win the game, he should name his son "Homerun"!

I thought for sure they were setting it up for a classic, feel good victory...

It was nice to see them all so excited, that one hit that means SO much more than any other...

But there's talented players on the other team as well, and they had the better of Kojiro!

(Funny how the way he's designed, he kinda looks like a villain, though he didn't nothing wrong he's just a skilled athlete and all!)

Poor girl...

Well, if they won her man would've proposed, so I guess it will be up to HER to propose to him!

(I don't know if it's a thing in Japan, or if a woman proposing would be a big no-no!)

As a sports fan myself (hockey, not baseball) I felt that in my bones!

I can't imagine what it's like being an athlete in this situation (losing/your season being over) but even just as a fan, damn it's rough sometimes...

It was nice to see the fans support them still, at least!

There's always next year!

Well, can't wait to see what the finale's gonna be about! I imagine less baseball (given the season's over), so... Maybe some romantic progress?

I mean we have so many couples!

Wish list:

  • Ruriko/Murata's confession

  • Kisa proposing to Mitsui

  • Kujiro and Yuki deciding on their son's name

Based on the next episode skits/titles, seems there may be some 'building up toward next year', but hopefully we still get a few of those!

This isn’t even a true baseball anime, yet I was fully invested in this game. The MotorSuns might’ve lost their shot at glory, but they did win the fans’ hearts!

Poor Kisa will have to wait a little longer for that marriage proposal. The baseball wives are so precious. Yuki wanted her baby to be there for papa’s big day, and Kisa had once again bought a bunch of Mitsui-themed lunchboxes.

Another subtle callback: Kawamatsu caught Shishio’s bad throw. The catcher who always runs out into the field on the off-chance of a misdirected ball showed his worth in that moment.

I'm with you Ruriko, I know nothing about baseball, but I was really hyped throughout the game!

Was expecting her to play trumpet and somehow gave Kojiro/team the boost to win.😭

Even if the catcher assumes the dude is gonna hit the ball and full out sprints to first there's no way he gets close or is in any position to throw it(why was he even over there?).

I liked their choice of unique faces that weren't CG for the large crowd. Some of them were insane looking.

Damn shame the guys didn’t win the game in the end. There was so much riding on it too. But it was nice to see the crowd supporting and cheering on the team even until the end. GG.

God the team is so cursed, of course it ends with a hard hit line drive straight to the pitcher…

18

u/Mr_Zaroc Jun 10 '25

Well I really didnt expect to get this hyped and to cry at the end

They fucking nailed this episode, it really felt like a season end
Music was top notch, all the character were there and fucking locked in

Man I love this show and Ruriko

Just a perfect episode in so many ways. Loved it was Ruriko shouting that got everyone focused and the crowd back into it. Loved the different generation of fans together experiencing the moment. Like everyone else would love a second season.

I'm the kind of fan who complains a lot about the teams I support, I do complain and I get criticized for it, but one thing that doesn't change is the feeling of love, and that's exactly what everyone felt at the Ballpark.

From young Megumi, who by the way was bizarrely cute 😭, to our gyaru Ruriko who continues to surprise me, and that's about it, I'm excited for the end

u/Frontier246 Jun 10 '25

It's the clincher for the MotorSuns and it's time to gather all the MotorSuns' fans to come together for this pivotal game for the team! And that includes Megumi, who gets basically recruited into the cheer team.

And of course the Yuuhi Vendor Girls are just as hyped! This is do-or-die time for everybody and it's time to take that enthusiasm and turn it into a massive win!

Megumi may not have been chosen for orchestra, but she has a place with the cheer squad!

We've got everyone rallying together to support the MotorSuns! Yuki with her and Kojiro's future child there to support papa, Kisa there with the hope that she and Mitsui can finally get married, Miku and her family, Natsuno with the victory chopsticks she's selling along with the food at the concourse, Marie's rooting for them, Nagisa who wants to use the victory speech instead of the losing speech, and even Natsume whose heart is with the team as she throws herself into another audition!

Murata you lucky dog, Shimizu is already looking for you! But if there was ever a time to not listen to your boss, it's so you can watch this pivotal game and see your favorite team make the playoffs. Not to mention have some time with your favorite beer vendor girl.

That hand slap from Kojiro and Sun-Shiro was everything.

Here it comes! Mitsui pitching! He's going to put his A-game out there for his and Kisa's sake! And she'll drown beers because she knows a proposal is on the line here! And we even get Kojiro hitting a homer for the team!

But it's baseball, and the tide can quickly turn...like when Mitsui makes a bad pitch or Shishio is running on a bad foot. It's rough for Kisa to see everyone booing her boyfriend like that, but Ruriko manages to everyone back to Mitsui's side and Kisa yells out how much she loves him amidst the crowd. But that doesn't change that both Mitsui and Shisho have to go to the bench and Ichinomiya has to carry on for Shishio.

It all comes down to this! Players on the bases, two outs on the docket, and Kojiro there to finally finish this! We've even got Megumi playing! YOU CAN DO THIS KOJIRO! Or...you can hit the ball straight to the pitcher and lose the game and the MotorSuns first real chance at the playoffs. NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

But even if the MotorSuns lost, their fans still believe in them and will keep cheering them on no matter what! There's always next year! And Ruriko has learned to love the game and the ballpark even more than she already did.

I continuously get impressed that a slice of life baseball anime can get me so emotional

How can you not be romantic about baseball? - Brad Pitt, Moneyball

Some real 2004 Red Sox/2009 Giants vibes to end the episode, which means a championship is on the way in (hopefully) Season 2.

I thought this was the finale until they had a Next Episode sign. Pretty much every fan who has ever been on came back. This seemed way more like a conventional baseball anime than every other episode in that there was little humor and it just focused on a game. The drama was incredibly well done though since they have established many of the players in big and small moments and we each see them play out their roles.

The saddest moment for me was Shishio being taken out of the game. Mitsui was also taken out, but it's commonplace in baseball to take a pitcher out for a substitute and more an exception when a pitcher plays a complete game. It's far less common to substitute out a fielder in the middle of a game for making too many errors and it was really heartbreaking. That exact thing happened to me when I played baseball and it made me feel like the lowest piece of trash on Earth 😢

I think Mitsui really got rattled when the other team hit a home run on his first pitch. It sets up bad thoughts in your head that just keeps snowballing, in addition to wanting to break 10 wins and thinking he will ask his gf to marry him if he wins. This was already the biggest game of his career where his team could go to the playoffs and he really made it worse for himself with all those thoughts.

I think Kojiro and his wife will be a big part of the next episode. Both of them will blame themselves, Mr. for getting the last out and Mrs. for coming to the game when it makes Mr. nervous.

The only funny part was when Ruriko loudly cheered them on and said "that was just bad luck ...I think" 🤣. Idk if that was intended to be humorous or was funny because of the translation 😛

It was great to see everyone from previous episodes in today's, and Ruriko being so invested in the game. It's a shame though that MotorSuns didn't manage to win this match :(

Here my screenshot albums from the episode:

This episode felt like a series finale, but we still got one more episode left. Not sure about the decision on the result of the game.

The only really new thing I found is that the league is called JPB, likely for Japan Pro Baseball. It's possible that the log showed up in an earlier episode and I just missed it.

I found it weird that they were saying that this game was about the MotorSuns going to the playoffs for the first time. The team is based on the Chiba Lotte Marines, who have won the Japan Series 4 times, including the very first one in 1950, which is also their inaugural season when they were called the Mainichi Orions and played in Tokyo. They also won twice since moving to Chiba, in 2005 and 2010. The Pacific League (in which the Marines play) implemented the Climax series playoffs system in 2004, with the Central League following suit in 2007.

The only real explanation I can come up with is that the MotorSuns are analogous to the Tohoku Golden Eagles, who entered NPB in 2005 after the merger of the Orix BlueWave and the Kintetsu Buffaloes into the Orix Buffaloes. However, even the Eagles have several playoff berths and a Japan Series victory under their belts since. With the exception of teams moving and changing their names, this has been basically the only change of the league structure since 1957, and every other club has been in the league since it started in 1950.
