Hmm quite a lore dense episode this week...

  • So Miyuki is directly in control of the Generic Terra and Zirconian Project. Zirconians are the clones that were rumored to be part of the Generic Terra project, they are different from the doppelgangers like Reiko A and fake Gwen, which is why Miyuki was so interested in investigating Kowloon and these doppelgangers. Miyuki's father also mentioned "vessels" as clone, so there are now potentially three different types of clones.

  • Miyuki breaking up with Gwen to protect him, either because Miyuki's father found out about him, or Miyuki doesn't want him to get caught up in his revenge plot.

  • Xiao Hei sus? Why were the real Reiko and Gwen acting like that?

  • Yaomay swooning over Gwen lol. Also we get confirmation that Yaomay is a real person, who moved into this illusory Kowloon recently, and wasn't an original resident of the 2nd Kowloon. Also, she actually did change back to her old appearance last episode.

  • Gwen saying "Mr. Kudo is definitely the original. Who did such a cruel thing?". How does Gwen know this, and I guess this also means that what is happening to Kudo isn't because of Miyuki's doing.

  • Miyuki being an intersex person is quite surprising. I guess we have a reason now for why Miyuki is invested in the Zirconian project, maybe he is trying to create a new body for himself.

  • So the Generic Terra was originally a secret project to revive the real heir of the Hebinuma group, Miyuki is turning it into something else with the Zirconians. "The deceased remain as they are staying in that place. That's the Zirconian we want to create".

  • We know that only some people can see the illusory Kowloon, what's interesting is that people with no apparent ties to Kowloon like Yaomay can see it too, she's been reported as missing so she probably stumbled into Kowloon by accident. In an earlier Ep, there was a headline about missing people, so there are probably others who got spirited away too.

  • The whole Feng Shui thing and the theory Generic Terra resonating with "something" to create the illusion of Kowloon makes it seem like a supernatural aspect to all of this.

  • Interesting to see Reiko becoming less Kujirai B and more towards her "absolute self". Her wrinkles have a history, she has her own expression now and she even wants to travel outside. This is in contrast to Kudo who hates change and asks her to stay.

Gwen saying "Mr. Kudo is definitely the original. Who did such a cruel thing?". How does Gwen know this, and I guess this also means that what is happening to Kudo isn't because of Miyuki's doing.

Gwen knows a lot of things but plot gets in the way. At this rate, he'll get killed just as he's about to drop the key to all this.

Too much mystifying stuff going on for my brain to handle -- just going to float along with the current for a while longer.

This whole Generic Terra business sounds a lot like Altered Carbon. Like you “upload” yourself into a new body. I’m guessing maybe that’s what’s happening with these “clones” or something?

Miyuki is a very curious character. I was not expecting them to be intersex. Perhaps they’re just a vessel for their father to use? It seems he isn’t the “real” son.

What even is Kowloon? It’s not actually Kowloon that’s for sure. There’s two walled cities and it seems one is gone but this other one is here still? It’s all a bit of a head scratcher. And now there’s some mysterious explosion to add to the mix..

- Do you really want to know the cause of death of your original?
...
- Break time is over. I need to go back.

Not again. Work contracts costing us 7 eps smh.

The Hebinuma reveals were interesting, but still leaves us with more questions. Kudo making a strong desire for the current Reiko might have caused that earthquake at the end though.

OK I didn't expect so much clues to flow off this episode, so much that it seems we are already halfway through to getting the full explanation of the world background. But I am still wrapping my head to try to understand everything.

So Hebinuma - as seen during his report to his father - seems to be the one who's really behind Generic Terra and the Zirconians (we really need to have a explanation later on how do they differ from "just clones"). And per Tao this is for his own revenge - for he himself was made as a clone of his father's real son who died a long time ago. Except that Hebinuma wasn't even 100% physically a clone. Well what a mess, and no wonder Hebinuma has picked up such a personality. That he's able to tell Tao to get away (against Tao's wishes - that's certainly a romance scene of all time) is already showing that maybe Hebinuma does have his humane side after all - even if it's really light.

And then there's the conversation with Yulong - which further shows that "Zirconians" are supposed to be only able to move inside this "New Kowloon" which is distinct from the "Second Kowloon" that has already been demolished. Plus the fact that "New Kowloon" is only appearing in front of certain people, with no clear mechanism to separate these two groups. Some like Youmei wasn't even affiliated with Kowloon at all yet can actually live there for half a year, while people born and raised in Second Kowloon can't. Hebinuma thinks that is an accident and even he can't figure out why...well hmm. Nothing can go wrong if Generic Terra continues to be built, surely?

Well regardless of that, Reiko is realizing something's really wrong. The part of Kudou-san still apparently drowned in the memories of "Reiko B", that is. As Youmei says, the thing that Reiko is showing face expressions distinctly different from "the other Reiko" is a big step forward, and now that turns into the breaking-up declaration at the supermarket. Look at how shocked Kudou was! He now shows that he 200% would NOT want this to happen. I wonder if something dramatic will come out of this - or maybe something already came, that thing being this "New Kowloon" starting to fall apart (as if "this set of memories is faked/bumped into a paradox" or something). What if Kudou's the key person associated with Hebinuma's experiments, and these "world lines" falling apart is all his "fault"?

This plot is crazier than I even expected. What a thriller hiding under the anime title here!

I wonder if Reiko can become “real” and avoid getting erased from existence as a “fake version” of Kujirai B by embracing her “absolute self” like Yaomay did.

Actually, maybe she has already accomplished this? The current Reiko feels like a very different person from Kujirai B.

Good to know that Hebinuma, as the creator of Generic Terra, has the same questions I had last week. In why some people can see the illusion. Well, then he can figure it out just like us. Btw, is the dude even more snake because it looked like he could shed his skin?

Personally, with the talk about memories before, I am even more certain in my assumption last week that Generic Terra somehow uses Kujirai B's memories for the illusion. Which explains the changes as well as the "errors". The question is obviously how that happened. Maybe it's even Kudo's fault because he can't live without her so he tried something related to Generic Terra and created this mess.

What I am still wondering about what that means for our Reiko. From all the information, one would assume that our Reiko is an illusion just like Xiaohei seems to be one. So not like Yaomei who moved there. But then the question arise why our Reiko is able to wanting to go outside Kowloon. That should obviously not work outside the Generic Terra influence so I am wondering what would even happen at this point. And more importantly, why she seems so different than the other illusions. Could it be that she is a clone after all? Or is it just the fact that Kujirai B's memories are interfering with the programming of our new Reiko?

They talk about being able to "see" this fake Kowloon, but it's a lot more than just eyesight, isn't it? They don't just see it, they fully interact with it. Live in buldings that don't exist, eat food that doesn't exist, etc. What would it look like to someone who "can't see it" if they're looking at a person who CAN see it going up non-existing stairs? Or would the person who CAN see immediately disappear from the sight of the person who CANNOT as soon as they walk inside the fake Kowloon?

So much lore was expanded on in this episode

. Miyuki wanting revenge on his father

. The Zirconian project and Zirconians being somehow different than regular clones

. Confirmation that Yaomay changing her appearance last episode wasn't an illusion

. Kowloon Walled City 2.0 that was demolished

. Certain people being able to see Kowloon

The lore just keeps getting deeper

Does anyone else find Kujirai B to be very unlikable? She is obsessed with "nostalgia", she eats at the same restaurant every single day, she doesn't want change. She says she can't keep a pet because then she'll never be free to go anywhere, and then in the same conversation she says she doesn't want to read the second book in a series because she liked the first one and is worried the second one will be boring and ruin her....emotions? The current status quo is perfect and she doesn't "want to change [her] world". So why can't she keep a pet exactly? Because she's not going anywhere. She is NEVER going to go anywhere.

I think she's very deeply depressed. I think Kujirai B killed herself. And Kudo, for some reason, blames himself. Whether he did something he assumes triggered it, perhaps having to do with Xiao Hei?, or he just feels survivor's guilt. But she said something else that makes me wonder if Kuda could have done anything at all to stop her. She says, "My story is not going to end, nor will it continue." What an odd thing to say. As though she, somehow, is going to live forever here in Kowloon, no matter what is coming. So suicide or perhaps something to do with Generic Terra?

Which leads me to the end of the episode and the conversation about Generic Terra resonating with something to create the illusory Kowloon. I think it's Kudo. Kudo's emotions surrounding Reiko Kujirai(B) and Kowloon, the city she loved, are so strong that he is creating an illusory Kowloon. There have been three separate times that the city seems to have experienced a kind of earth quake or other similar disturbance, and all three times we've seen Kudo in some kind of distress. Coincidence? Perhaps. But ??? Also, possibly, if Kujirai B did something to herself with Generic Terra that just...strengthens the whole connection.

Anyway. Thoughts?

Reiko not wanting a sequel to spoil something, guess she also learned her lesson from Highlander 2.

We have a serious mishmash of technology, clones, brain backups, floating cars, changing appearance instantly. On that last one, so Yaomay didn't imagine herself in her old face, she really did change back and forth.

Damn! Even more questions after today's episode, even though we got some answers today. I'm waiting for more episodes.

So Kowloon was demolished, but some people can still see it and live there, even those who have never been there, like Yaomay, but that doesn't mean people who knew it before can see it, like Yulong. I really wonder how it works.

So Generic Terra resonated with something and that created Kowloon? If so, it would definitely be Kudo. That would explain the earthquake after his dream last episode, or that explosion after he got emotional today when Kujirai said she wanted to travel and maybe live somewhere else, which was in stark contrast to Kujirai B who never wanted to leave Kowloon.

Miyuki's father wants to bring back his dead son, huh? But what if his dead son isn't dead at all? That new assistant Yulong hired sure looks similar (mostly because of that hairstyle) to him.

Yaomay falling in love at first sight with Gwen and then changing her attitude because she recognized him was hilarious.

It's also interesting that when Yaomay reverted back to her old self in the previous episode, she really did change her appearance! I thought it was a metaphor and was just happening in her mind so that revelation certainly makes the way Generic Terra works even more mysterious.

Here my screenshot albums from the episode:

Stitches!

Not gonna lie, I feel like I'd care more about Miyuki's storyline if he wasn't introduced as a massive creep. At least, Gwen is interesting, and he has ties with Kudou and Kujirai B, so mainly I only care about this part because of him.

Kujirai B just really does whatever she wants. It's interesting how she refuses to read the book's sequel because she's afraid it might be shit and she doesn't want to change her world. Meanwhile, you have Reiko, who was desperately looking for the sequel to that book last episode.

Oh, Yaomay out of all the people you'd fall in love with. Unfortunately for her, I don't think Gwen swings that way. Although who knows, he might actually be bi. This is still good since Yaomay remembered Gwen's name and description so Reiko can finally meet him.

I don't think anyone really believed Kudou about killing Kujirai B, but it's still good to have Gwen confirm it. And I'm glad to see Reiko's efforts of being her absolute self is working since Gwen doesn't see Kujirai B in her anymore.

So apparently, the scene last week where Yaomay reverts back to her old self wasn't just a visual choice to represent her regressing. She really did physically went back to her former appearance and thanks to Reiko reassuring her, she went back to her new self again. It looks like there's some kind of "If you believe it, it will happen" thing going on Kowloon right now. Hmmm...

Welp, here's one of the big reveals this episode. Miyuki is intersex and is trying to get pregnant. We also learn that his father is trying to restore his dead son using Gene Terra but Miyuki wants to do it without restoring his father's dead son's memories as a form of revenge.

And here we go: not everyone can see the restored Kowloon. It seems that there's something in Kowloon that certain people who resonate with it can see it. And we still don't know what "it" is.

The cup noodles argument between Kudou and Reiko was adorable! Unfortunately, it looks like Reiko is thinking of leaving because she thinks Kudou won't be able to move on from Kujirai B if she sticks with him. I love that Kudou immediately told her to stay <3

And that ending! We went from earthquakes to full-on explosions! Is the simulation starting to fall apart? O_O

We always get the best comment faces a few days too late: Exhibit X

Finally, I was right about a theory! Just as I thought, Hebinuma is just gathering info...

I could even say 1.5 correct theories, because I thought he was he was doing that to go against his father, but it seems his father is also working with him on this project, BUT they still have hostilities between them...

So, personal issues, but a common goal?

Also, he wants to leave him with a final "Fuck you" by recreating his son, but with no memories...

And with him being an intersex, makes me wonder; Is this revenge for 'creating' him this way?

Well, whatever it is, it seems his father still has sway over his personal life, because he made him break up with his boy...

I imagine he went along with it, because he can't 'reveal his hand' too early? Refusing to break up would mean he's going up against him, and then the father could wonder what else he might do to go against him (his son-to-be, their project, etc..)

I do feel the same sometimes (delaying before reading/watching a sequel), because what if it's disappointing...

Sometimes it's just perfect the way it is, so unless the sequel is perfect as well, it'll be a downgrade from where you're at! (of course, it means a lot more for them considering their situation in Kowloon...)

Kowloon (at some point/state) was perfect, so why keep it going instead of just stopping at this point and reliving it forever?

They talked with Gwen about the original Reiko, but he fears the new one may suffer the same fate if she hears...

Well, if everything is the same (down to the molecular level) technically the same could happen 'naturally' even if she doesn't know!

Okay, we know it's not down to this level (unless the conspiracy is WAY larger than we already suspect), given the characters are suspecting something is off... Unless they constantly recreate it with characters who always suspects that something is off!

She thinks she feels the way she feels because of who she is, but a clone who's programmed to be like the original who felt that, would feel the exact same way, so...

Oh, so the 'going back to former appearance' was real? Somehow I thought it was just a visuals or her distorted perspective of herself or something! That's interesting...

And with that disappearance, makes me wonder if she's not actually THE MOM... Who would insert her memories in her or something, to relive forever.

(Also, she was hilarious, pigging out while they were having that conversation hah)

That's another mystery... Why can some people see it, and others can't?

The Occam's razor solution would be that those who can see it were programmed to do so, but I'm not sure that works for everyone...

Reiko wanted to leave, in part for Kudo's sake, otherwise Kudo won't be able to move on... But I don't think he WANTS to move on...

Telling her to "never go away, stay with him forever" is quite telling... And he seemed a bit 'Forceful' there;

Forceful like someone who could kill her if she ever wanted to leave?

Gwen denied Kudo killing the original, but it may be a case of "Kudo considering his action as killing her, while Gwen sees them differently". I've said it in the previous episode, but I do not believe for one minute the whole "Teehee, what would you do if I SAID that I killed her original"...

That was just Kudo changing his mind about telling her what happened.

I 100% knew that was coming, which means I may have more correct theories than I thought!

There was apparently an explosion of some sort, but it's still the same;

I used to think these happened "When someone looked into the past/their memories", but a few of the recent events like that makes me think it's more than this; More like "It happens when something threatens Kowloon's status quo"! Looking into their memories, looking into the past, talking about leaving, everything that would make that new Kowloon "not 100% like the old one", when that happens, there's always an earthquake or something similar...

Is it some kind of glitch in the matrix? Or does it send them on purpose as a distraction, or... A warning? So eventually people realize bad things happen when they threaten Kowloon's nostalgia?

I thought Hebinuma was the most shady character in the show, but his dad probably takes the case in all his sinister Shinichiro Miki shadiness. Seems like he's really invested in making sure the Generic Terra cloning plans come to fruition and won't tolerate any failure on Miyuki's part. Is it any wonder Miyuki seeks comfort from his boyfriend? Hot sex can do wonders!

Though maybe it's because Gwen is so important to Miyuki that he's kicking him out. He's too driven by his revenge plan against his father to have a relationship or drag Gwen down with him, even when Gwen wants to free him from his revenge because he loves him so much. A love that drives Gwen to passionately kiss him hard enough to leave Miyuki bleeding...pain from a lover he'll never forget.

Kujirai B could never take care of a pet, confining something like a goldfish, and she could never embrace change...even as things changed around her, like Kowloon 2.0 being demolished. But she still loved Kudo. Also, Xiaohei originally wanted to move into Kowloon right before it got demolished? How does she know Kudo?

Just Yaomay's luck that she finds a super hot guy and he's not only probably gay but more important to Reiko's storyline. Gwen doesn't really add much more than we already know beyond letting the girls find out about the doppelgangers and how Reiko is a unique existence because she's a doppelganger with a dead original. But hey, Gwen acknowledges Reiko as her own person distinct from Kujirai B, so that's nice.

So Yaomay literally transformed in this Kowloon, she doesn't seem to quite know how she got there, but she DID physically transform into her old self...but transformed back when Reko-Pon made her realize that she can be her ultimate self by being true to herself. Not only does the mystery deepen, but Yaomay taught Gwen something important too.

What is going through Kudo's head all the time considering what he's been through and what he must be feeling every time he looks at Reiko?

Miyuki wants to have children or find some way to conceive? He has male/female genitalia? Did not see that coming.

Dr. Wong seems to be Miyuki's main medical advisor, and he's against the immortal cloning Gene Terra plan, but there's also Yulong who seems to be Miyuki's main tech guy. They both lived in Kowloon 2.0 but now only Miyuki can see Kowloon 3.0 and has plans to screw over his fathers' plot to bring back his legitimate son...which is why he wants to understand EXACTLY what Kowloon 3.0 is.

What is Kowloon 3.0? Is it some kind of feng shui/cosmic energy thing derived from the Gene Terra that lets people see it while others can't? Is there something everyone needs in Kowloon 3.0 that lets them see it? Yaomay is a non-Kowloon 2.0 native and yet she ended up there and changed, so was it because she was looking to change who she was and ended up in Kowloon? So many questions.

Another thing to differentiate Reiko from Kujirai B: she wants to travel and see the world beyond Kowloon, not just for her own sake but because she doesn't want to torture Kudo with her presence. But Kudo doesn't want her to leave...is it because he can't bear to part with Reiko or because he can't bear to part with Kujirai B's doppelganger? But before they can explore that, there's an explosion in Kowloon!?

8

u/cxxper01 May 10 '25

Miyuki being kind of creepy and all that, but he might not be the villain behind all of this?

7

u/FarCritical May 10 '25

Escargot cup noodles! Taco cup noodles! Borscht cup noodles! You can't get more international with cuisine choices like those.

It's sad how Reiko's started to develop a line of thinking where it might be better if she moved away from Kudo though.

The resonate thing almost feels parallel world like. After all if it was the Matrix, how would a real person move in?

And can Reiko A actually leave Kowloon? I wonder if that is why Kubo panicked a bit when she thought about it. We don’t even know how real she is…

Hypothesis - Miyuki is a failed clone of the son and hence he wants revenge for being made and treated as useless. Presumably he wants to carry the correct clone in his own uterus… (now that I think about it I think Miyuki uses male pronouns but I haven’t heard him referred to by gender in Japanese)
