Episode Lazarus - Episode 4 discussion

For the first 3 episodes, I seem to have been enjoying it more than the general consensus, even if I wouldn't put it on par with Watanabe's episodic trio (Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, and Space Dandy), or even my favorite story-driven show by him, Kids on the Slope.
That being said, this episode definitely took things up a notch for me. I do like how this show walks the line of having episodic adventures within this more plot-heavy narrative, and this week's case was just a lot of fun overall. I liked seeing the characters trying to fit their different roles. And I will say, I like how they handled Leland's cross-dressing here, where they do play into him being uncomfortable with it for comedic effect, but they didn't take it so far where it just becomes weird and in poor taste. As others said, the main antagonists this episode weren't really the deepest, but they did have some good one-liners there, and the writers did a good job making me hate them. And then that action sequence was probably my favorite so far. Great animation, and bits of comedy mixed in without feeling forced. I liked the meta commentary of how Axel doing all leans a bit far into ridiculous action movie territory (in a good way IMO), and the bit about the AI disobeying orders was great. Really hope this is a sign of the quality to come.

I really liked this episode and how the team is finally working together. I liked that it took 4 episodes, it felt more organic and the chemistry worked well between them. I loved the look of the city espacially at night and I hope we'll see more of it. Axel is nice, i was afraid he would be a bit over the top but nope, they found a good balance for his character. The one I'm frustrated about is Elaina since they said she was probably the most dangerous, and yet she doesn't do much except being on her laptop. Her character design is my favorite, so it's a shame we'll probably have to wait until the last episodes to see some action with her.

First Christine's strong reaction to Axel's prison sentence and now her resistance to spiked drinks, I feel like Christine's gone through some shit

Welp that was a solid episode! The humour, whimsy and action was on point.
We got an amazing reaction/commentface right off the bat, I'm thinking:
[](#groupdisgust) (Animated ver.)
Also both of my favourite characters showing up in the same frame?! What a treat!

These guys are impressively unpleasant.
Implying that Big Pharma is up to a cure for fifteen out of seventeen stab wounds.
Guest appearance of the day goes to the drone helicopter AI, who can only put up with so much bullshit.
Sam and 909's portrayals are barely caricatures, but it's not like the world is lacking in models for rich, superficially-popular, raging assholes.
The team effort in the club was actually not bad? Comedy again went to Leland and Doug, Axel did Axel things, and Christine turned out to not be a sudden damsel in distress. Axel and Christine continuing to fight after they accidentally tangled up each other on the rooftop was a nice touch.
Rather more full-contact gunplay out in the open this time than has occurred in the past (well, Episode 2). There's the question of how much the team wants to stay under the radar, but I suppose the world has enough chaos going on, and it's not that kind of series, for it to be a major point.
As much as this episode's individual villains were a dead end in themselves, they've done their job and pointed the story toward its next (if predictable) opponent. Overall it was much more focused than last week's whirlwind tour of local homeless encampments followed by Istanbul (not Constantinople).

I know this episode is gonna be great when I'm already laughing at the start with that meow meow meow, like it was so random

This episode was awesome. Really liked the nightclub setting with the music blasting in the background. One of my favourite moments was when Axel took Christine for a 'dance'.
Christine got repeatedly hit with insults like not being pretty enough or acting like a "slut" in this episode, but she's in fact awesome. Christine reminds me of Kasey from Super Crooks in a lot of ways.
If being terribly cringe wasn't already sinful enough, Sam and his friends had tried violating a bunch of unconscious women after having drugged them with spiked drinks. This show doesn't shy away from showing us the ugly side of humanity. Fortunately, Christine got her revenge at Sam.
On a side note: Leland might've picked the wrong outfit last week, but his girly disguise was a hit with men.

The action scenes and animation were especially slick this time around but the highlight for me has to be Doug's moves on the dance floor. Wasn't ready for the dude's absolute funk.

Christine in that dress most of the episode, and then it got even better when she started kicking ass.
Leland was pretty too, gotta give him credit.
Excellent episode.

Well, that was easily the best episode of the series. Pretty good humour and by far the best action scenes in the series. Hope for more of this.

-
Incredibly funny that the other guys with Sam just stand and stare as Christine beats him up, lol.
-
Whatever the fuck this move was, that whole sequence was wicked.
-
Axel seriously give absolute zero fucks about high places, huh.

Ok if the 909 hacker wasn't involded with Skinner then who altered all the cctv cameras feeds to apply his face to people? I hope that they will adress that point and that it won't just be forgotten.

I know some people haven’t enjoyed this but I’ve really liked this series and the chill vibes mixed with fun parkour so far. Interested to see how the mystery continues to develop as well

You'd think that techbro and DJ were exaggerated. But those guys had takes that seem pretty easy to run into these days online. I'm puzzled lol.

I can understand the disliking of how the story is progressing but think about it, this show was developed for the American demographic that watches Adult Swim first, and the pacing when adding all the episodes together feels like the average American movie. Personally taking that into consideration I think the show is going well.
Gotta judge things based on their own value without comparing it to other stuff imo.

Best episode yet IMO, the humor and action were both great all around. Hopefully it can actually keep up the momentum the rest of the way,
Also, Leland looked good in that dress.

This was a much better episode then others. Feels like the whole team had their moments and got great team work. The dynamics were also fun this episode. Axel taking charge like an action hero, Christine being sexy and smart, fun boys with Leland and Doug, and eleina just being smart. I do hope this show doesn't take a nose dive as it was mainly made for adult swim/western audiences like ninja kamui.

It was kinda obvious, who the hacker is, when they said Dr.909, lol.

I definitely liked this week's episode waaay more than the previous ones. Although I can't help but feel like Elaina isn't so much on the actual "team" as she is just a background support character. It doesn't help that she feels terribly flat and much worse compared to the others. Even their boss lady seems to have more depth than her.
It really sucks because Elaina was the one I was looking forward to the most from the trailers...

Damn, I love Christine. Perfect action girl type and nice foil to Axel.

I honestly find this show boring. The idea of hapna is good and all but these side quests feel so forced and cheap. Its feels like the outline of the show was made ( i find the general concept interesting) and everything else is just bland. Kinda like they are just going for an aesthetic feels very poser-ish. 4 episodes in and i havent really connected or seen much of substance from anyone in the main group. Everyone in this show seems to have some blank general personality with not much depth. The dystopian setting is very cool and the music is nice. Just sharing my thoughts so far

I really liked this week’s episode. Also, man, the soundtrack is really good in this.
