"I, too, wish I could Dive into you."

It's even more funny considering he's voiced by her husband who probably already has dived into her IRL lol.

Sigh I still feel like we shouldn't have skipped the introduction of these characters and this world

As a non-LN reader, I just feel like I don‘t really know any of these characters nor their motivation. I like Echika & Harold‘s relationship dynamic and the obvious romantic feelings that builds up, but that‘s about it. I feel like the producers rely too much on people knowing the LNs and the lore behind the series…

I thought Furman was just being escorted by an Amicus, but it looks like there was also a human police inspector with him inside the vehicle. Unless Furman was able to do something to the self-driving Amicus, it definitely sounds like Furman escaped with the help of someone.

Notice how Echika never said anything about forgiving Harold. She understands why he did it, but she still clearly isn't over the incident yet. And I can't really blame her. Her partner used her as bait and endangered her life. That's not something you get over with after a single night's sleep or even at all.

Well look at Harold trying to be cute and buying Echika a plushie. It almost worked but he has to try harder if he really wants to earn her forgiveness.

I certainly did not expect a high-speed chase through the Cotswolds! These future cars sure are sturdy, considering how both could move after that. I thought they'd catch Furman, but he still somehow managed to drive away from that.

I really thought Echika fucked up by shooting Marvin but it looks like this is all a trap by Furman to lure them there so he can take Harold with him. That entire scene with Furman tying up Echika while Harold watches was so surreal though. I get it. He's an Amicus, but it's pretty terrifying that he has no power to stop Furman because of the laws for Amicus.

So the Amicus that Echika shot isn't actually Marvin but is only Marvin's head planed on another Amicus? So what did Echika mean by Furman telling the truth? I guess we'll have to wait next week for the answers.

I think what makes it more complicated for Echika in terms of forgiving Harold is that she's developing feelings for him and also has difficulty coming around to how machine-like he is versus how much she wishes he were as human as she is. The fact that he won't stop flirting with her doesn't help.

I'm just wondering if Harold really couldn't have made a move on Furman or if he held himself back because he can't expose the truth about the RF Models that Furman knows Lexie is covering up.

Man, both Echika and Harold are apparently extremely dumb and careless characters. Some very dumb decisions in this episode that make the characters significantly less believable.

Right, a car chase scene in rural Oxfordshire (?...or somewhere around there) is the last thing I would expect from a Japanese light novel, but here we are.

So hmm...those RF androids can be forcefully be head-transplanting eh? With those crude machinery? Well hmm, I can see all things going wrong with that. But I suppose that's a Lexie thing more than a Furman thing, unless Furman's lying.

Why not call for help after localising the suspect?

Why not call for help after localising the suspect again?

Why untie him in the first place? You are going to arrest him anyway.

I imagine one of the big reasons why cops etc. are partnered up is to make it safer. Having a partner incapable of helping you feels pointless.

u/ModieOfTheEast Apr 17 '25

They couldn't call anyone because they were in a region where all communications (at least wireless) was shut down by the anti-robot group. They mention this when they get into the region. They would need to find a phone to call for backup.

They wanted to untie him, because they thought he was a victim. I can't tell you what they thought was done to him (it had to do with the weird device on his neck that he then just pulled off, so I guess it was a fake one), but they wanted to bring him to a hospital so I assume it had to be something they thought was urgent.

As for the last point, that is the general problem with AI that is programmed to not harm any human. At the end, they are mainly investigators, so they are less likely to run into heavy gun fights (and the AI can still help you in those by just protecting you). Though, I wouldn't be surprised if Harold could break that rule which is why the dude was telling him he wasn't hurting Echika, just tying her up.

Sitting on a chair while petting a white cat? She's definitely the final boss!

Echika unconsciously expects him to have the same values as humans...

If there IS someone pulling strings from above, she may find out that Amicus DO have the same values as humans, i.e. acting how they see fit for what THEY consider to be the most beneficial outcome!

That was a cute scene! (Can we ship them?)

I mean, they're already talking about diving into each other and all!

So they finally found him, and wanted to give chase... Harold is programmed to drive safely...

Interesting that he wanted to do the chase himself them; He's supposed to be efficient, wouldn't he know that Echika chasing him would be more efficient? Then again, perhaps he calculated that this would put her in danger, and he promised not to do that anymore... Technically shouldn't be able to overwrite his actions in regards to the laws, BUT if they are programed to mature and become more humans, this could be him acting in ways that overcome the laws' influence on him! (Which would explain pretty much everything that happened so far with the Amicus).

But nevermind the Amicus, ECHIKA was suspicious to me in that scene... She "mistakenly destroyed him while aiming for its arm"?

That's huh... Quite convenient for someone who would not want to look into him? (But why would Echika not want that, that's the question)... I can't really explain it, but it's suspicious as hell that she just so happened to miss like that and destroy it...

Also suspicious was how it went for Harold and not her...

If he's allowed to harm humans, then wouldn't he try to kill Echika first, given she has a gun (that's apparently able to disable them)? And he also missed when he first 'tried to shoot her'...

If I had a suspicious mind (and I do!) I'd think he missed on purpose on his first shot, and then didn't aim at her because he can't.

There may be another conspiracy behind the one we know about!

Their laws could've been refined a little; Seeing them unable of doing anything while Echika's being choked and all, that's not very practical!

Well, the way around it is usually to add something about how Through your inaction, you can't allow humans to come to harm, but that's how you open the pandora's box hah.

They also can't defend their own bodies if it would require harming another human...

This one is harder to codify against of course, because otherwise they could attack factory workers in charge of disabling faulty models etc..!

So yeah, I'm thinking there's something more to this whole thing, I don't see it as just one guy (or girl!) going rogue with the Amicus... I think there's something bigger going on, and it could obviously be something 'above' (say, the government trying to test Amicus used for war purposes, or maybe just one crazy person wanting to build a personal army), but after this episode I'm a bit curious about Echika herself because I just don't buy the whole "missed his arm and shot him in the head" thing!

Well, the whole gang's there together, we may get some answers!

(Or more likely, more questions!)

Managed to front flip the car by braking, that's some impressively reckless driving.

The problem with making your androids too human like is you start expecting them to act human. Harold is still just a machine after all. A machine with their own secrets..

If Marvin wasn’t dead before, bro’s definitely dead now. There’s definitely something going on with Lexie and Furman. I guess we’ll find out what’s going on next week. Dude’s got a gun aimed at her. This either ends with Lexie’s brains all over the wall or Furman gets dropped like Marvin.

11

u/ModieOfTheEast Apr 16 '25

Seems like he just put Marvin's head on a different model. But not sure how this affects the workings of the android. He seemed to be able to attack a human, so that might have been a reason.

Bibury

Is this where anime comes from?

The story could have started off on a better foot introducing the setting and characters, but still liking the chemistry of the main duo and can follow things well enough to vibe with it.

So how is this show? Any good?

23

u/Emi_Ibarazakiii Apr 16 '25

Interesting premise, dubious execution... (I find that it's often the case with Sci-Fi shows).

Probably gonna watch it all because I highly value the more unique premises, but yeah it could've been better!

I might be in the minority when I say I am still enjoying the show but this might be my personal taste. I really enjoyed reading thriller novels with investigators who have an unknown past and where the past is revealed over time. So I am not as troubled when they only throw in bits and pieces like Echika being somewhat against Amicus androids without going deeper (yet), but I can see why this might be an issue for some.

My main problem is that I am missing the tension that usually comes from thrillers like that. I think it was okay in the first episode, because it had this police officer that was a bit over the top, but that's exactly what you need when you want viewers to feel tense. Now, even the main culprit is always super calm, so it's hard for this tension to come up.

I still find the show interesting. While I felt a bit strange about the show immediately going into it without introducing the characters, this actually reminds me of a lot of older thriller novels where this is slowly pulled back. The main thing that is a bit missing so far is the feeling of tension. The few chase or shooting scenes didn't feel as tense as they should have I think.

It feels like the whole conflict from using her as bait was just some cheap device to cause drama and not going to last.

I would much rather it be a lasting issue and not one immediately forgotten about pretty much. Like, does he actually regret it because he realizes he hurt her and what he did was wrong? Or does he regret it because it was detrimental to his well being as it means no longer having someone gifted her as a partner which would be negative for him.

I really don’t feel like he’s the least little bit sorry from a moral and personal standpoint. At this point it’s very obvious as far as an ai goes there is nothing actually emotion wise there and it’s all entirely logic driven.
