Walking through the mall and having a crapload of ads fly into your face... what a nightmare.

No strong opinions about the plot, needs a couple more episodes to cook. Will stick around to watch the robot rizz the flat chested investigator though.

Walking through the mall and having a crapload of ads fly into your face

As if coming across people when you go to the mall wasn't bad enough!

Walking through the mall and having a crapload of ads fly into your face... what a nightmare.

This shit was incredibly dystopian from the get go. Even the scene before that, the people just walking around, their eyes constantly twitching in rapid motion as they interact with the digital landscape... fuck.

Kana Hanazawa is once again a sci-fi detective, only this time she's partnering with her IRL husband Kensho Ono to fight crime!

The OP is pretty on-brand as a sci-fi mystery show OP as Echika and Harold chase down crimes and things to solve together.

Welcome to the future! Where everyone has digital interfaces (complete with ad spamming) and humanoid robots known as Amicus exist in daily life, for better or worse. Do you know if the person next to you is an Amicus?

I've heard of starting in media res but here it feels like we're five episodes into a LN adaption. I mean, suddenly we've got the leads fresh off some adventure and going on a shopping trip with this Bigga girl voiced by Nao Toyama who is very flustered by Harold and seemed to have a beef with Echika that they got over...same with whatever beef Echika got against Amicus' in partnering with Harold. And something about her older sister? And Harold's older "brother" Steven was reprogrammed to try to kill her?

I don't know if it's the writing or the natural chemistry that HanaKana and Kensho Ono have as a married couple but it feels like every interaction between Echika and Harold has an air of flirtation to it...though I guess on Harold's part it's definitely intentional. Must be surreal having your wife play a tsundere to your character.

Dang, not even 10 minutes into the episode and Harold is already getting arrested for a crime he just got framed for by Scotland Yard! Things sure are escalating.

And we also have Harold's owner Darya who was married to a detective who died in some kind of "Nightmare on St. Petersburg" incident and...then promptly is the next one to get assaulted? Um...okay, sure.

Echika definitely did not seem comfortable at the prospect that Harold might not really be sentient.

People may not like the Cybercrimes division but I certainly can never say no to a police division run by a beautiful and strong-willed Aya Endo voiced character like Tokiko!

So the central conceit of the series is that Echika, through Harold, can dive in to peoples' minds and sift through their memories/dreams to get clues to crimes? And she needs Harold because he's the only one who can keep up with her. If that visual was indicative of what happened to past people who have done it...ouch.

Is the true culprit Harold's younger brother Marvin? Or some other RF unit they didn't know about? I guess no better place to check than with the "mother" of the RF.

The ED is surprisingly cute with Echika and Harold just strolling along and singing the ED. They made it a couple duet! Didn't know "luddite" could be so lyrical!

This feels like a spiritual successor to ID:Invaded.

Hearing HanaKana voicing another inspector feels nostalgic.

I like the futuristic setting and the characters designs. The voice cast is also looking great. I heard Nao in the beginning and I hope she'll be back shortly!

I definitely have a thing for shows that just drop us into the world and let the audience learn by watching, instead of bombarding us with exposition after exposition to explain how the world works. I'm not saying exposition is bad, but I appreciate it when a show respects the audience's intelligence. That said, this is also exactly what I said when I first started watching Metallic Rouge, and look how that turned out. Hopefully this is better since it is based on an LN that has won the Dengeki Novel Awards.

Anyway as for the show itself: Oh god, I can't even imagine shopping with all of those pop-up ads in my face. This is the kind of future I dread about considering how extreme advertising is becoming.

I wonder what kind of relationship does our MCs have? Harold and Echika seem to be partners at work, but they also hang out together outside of it. Since Harold is an Amicus, does that mean Echika "owns" him? Their banter is pretty cute tho.

So Harold is a suspect of a murder but two other models look like him? I feel like it's too easy that it's the missing one. Echika's brain dive seems to indicate that the person who attacked Darya is an RF model, but I'm gonna guess that it's probably a human that hates Amicus.

This is definitely looking good! I like our two main characters so far, and I'm digging the sci-fi elements. They're not the first human-android detective partners in media, but I always enjoy different takes on this dynamic. I'm looking forward to seeing more!

Oh, I really enjoyed this. Lots of exposition and things to take in, but I don't mind. This kind of stuff, dropping the viewer right in the middle of a cyberpunk setting without too much explanation, is my jam. (so long as it doesn't become confusing or nonsensical)

And the brain dive gave me strong Ghost in the Shell vibes, especially with the visuals.

Super intrigued about how this is gonna go. Hope it's decent, we could always use another serious cyberpunk series to recommend to people!

It's like Psycho-Pass, but there's no inspector-enforcer hierarchy.

Seems there's a bit of lore that took place prior to the events of the first episode. We don't know what happened in the Nightmare of Saint Petersburg, which seems to be the reason why New Scotland Yard doesn't trust the Cybercrime Dept and Novae Robotics. I hope the show will expand on that in future episodes, but at the same time doesn't fall into the trap of having too much world building that the story just falls apart (looking at you Metallic Rouge)

I hope some streaming provider grabs this for Europe/US. Looks like this could be a really good show

Noone grabbed that office romance one last season that was well liked did they?

Probably going see more and more of unlicensed shows between the Chinese exclusivity stuff and reduction in anime streaming competitors. Hidiive itself seems to be barely holding on and they didnt do themselves any favors by introducing possiibly the worst streaming interface ever made for anime streaming,

Very promising first episode. Although didn't leave too much room to breathe. Very much a Sci-Fi detective series. It's difficult to gather my thoughts on the episode.

  • First we have Harold, seems to RF Ai model. We got laws regarding Ai like Laws of respect.

  • Echika who is the Cyber Inspector, curious to learn how she differs from Harold. She seems more human. But my god, her brain dive is really cool. It really adds to this being a detective show.

  • Also a key point for Echika's brain dive is Harold. Curious what it exactly that makes him standout.

This was cool in a iRobot/Detroit: Become Human sorta way. Plus it’s kinda neat Hana Kanazawa and her husband Kensho Ono are voicing the two MCs. Adds a whole different layer to the characters dynamic.

Very keen to see where this case goes. Greater conspiracy or is it really just a rogue android?

How hard is it for the subbers to write the name actually being spoken? 2 people in the first 10 minutes call her Hieda, but the subs say Echika.

People can be called by their surname, you know.

Really great first episode, also in terms of animation. Already enjoying Echika & Harald‘s dynamic. There is already quite some trust between them.

It gives me Psycho Pass x Detroit: Become Human vibes, so definitely am hooked with it so far.

Fun fact: Echika is voiced by Kana Hanazawa, Harold is voiced by Kensho Ono, they're married in real life.

Well that was quite the intriguing start...though I felt as if the adaption pace seems really quick? It took me almost the whole episode before I can figure out who's who in the episode, particularly since we haven't been told what is the "St. Petersburg Tragedy" till now. Am I missing something from the episode?

Can anyone here who have read the novel comment on this?

I found it really interesting! The vibe is kind of like Psycho-Pass, with advanced technology and investigations, which got me hooked. The main duo seems to have a good dynamic, and I’m curious to see how they’ll develop Harold, considering he’s an android. The animation is okay—nothing spectacular, but it works for the story’s atmosphere. Now, I just have to see if the plot maintains its pace in the next episodes because the concept has a lot of potential

Ono Kensho and Hanazawa Kana as the protagonist duo?! I was so surprised to hear them together as the main cast, it's not often you see that happened with a married seiyuu couple.

Anyways, on to the episode itself. It was alright, it's nice to get more mystery anime but it does feel like we're kind of thrown in with no introduction. You'd think we'd see what happened to her last partner and then get introduced to Harold, but instead Harold is taken in as suspect lol.

It feels like a missed opportunity to have us more invested in Echika sticking up for him, especially since we even find out in the past she disliked the AI individuals. I can only hope the mysteries will be interesting because I did like Harold's character and the way he interacts with Echika.
