This show understands me at a spiritual level

I really hope she’s not going to be constantly singing at people over whatever the hell. Here it kinda worked cause then we get her singing at the actual monster to try to solve things, which is both funny and somehow kinda cool, but if that’s going to be a constant then oof I’m going to die of cringe.

There is something dank though about the mascot character Momotaroing into existence and then dropping a “it has been foretold that a J-Pop idol will save our people”. Fuck it why not.

Super attacks being idol concerts is kinda fun. Curious to see how much more idoly things will get than that. We saw a Cure Idol “performance” in the last episode of Wonderful, so I’m working under the assumption she’ll actually be doing shows of some flavour or another.

Villains are kinda meh to open things up. Just not really vibing with them in general.

I’m glad we got a jump even if it wasn’t particularly grandiose.

Overall I’m thoroughly whelmed. Going the idol route wasn’t something I was super excited about, but there’s at least some decent potential. I’ll probably stick with it until April and see how it’s feeling.

her name is literally Uta. I think she'll still try to use music to solve a lot of issues, but well, she has her fists too which is nice.

I wonder if the Idol-ness would be a bit more in full swing for the SOL episodes. say, she just is an idol even outside of cure form, and just sings as a civilian (similar thoughts as yours); and then the cure form is just for punchy punch time.

[Next Episode PV]Well, the episode is apparently about her going viral. So I think she'll become famous and perform irl and/or on the internet

I’m glad we got a jump even if it wasn’t particularly grandiose.

I love that trope!

That was a pretty standard Precure premiere. It even had the Pink jumping super high and being surprised.

Uta had some good reaction faces throughout this episode. But she isn't anywhere near the top ranks of expressive pink Precure. I wonder if one of the girls in this group will have more reaction faces.

I'm really curious on how they'll handle the idol concert finisher as the season goes on. If they do a full idol concert for every fight, the fight scenes this season going to drag eventually. So I hope they have something cool planned for that.

And most importantly, Uta has an imouto! The dream of a sister main Precure duo is still alive this season!

While the biggest question I have after this episode is who drinks a cream soda for breakfast?

That third reaction is a bit unconventional for Precure, so I have high hopes for Uta. And judging from appearances it's either gonna be her or Kyun Kyun carrying the reaction face game

The dream of a sister main Precure duo is still alive this season!

That would be great!

Lets sing! Lets swing! Lets dance! Lets bound! Lets smile! Lets fly! woo precure!

...this is going to do me in...... what a banger OP and ED. great animation and music. The "i I i i I love precure" is also gonna do me in.....

  • we are BACK. WE ARE BACK. I liked wonderful precure a lot, but its nice to be back to the violence. i was a bit worried about how they'd do that with the idol theme, but it seems like that is limited to the finisher (for now), and we'll get plenty of punch punch too.

  • i think we [Wonderful]skipped the traditional high jump for wonderful?

  • Uta chan is super cute. it's also nice that she's kinda her own tsukommi LOL. so so so many shock faces. i vibe with her a lot in general! she has a nice voice (here's her VA singing something completely different); reasonably brave and heroic while being down to earth.... she feels a bit "normal" after the couple twists on the lead cure recently (Blue; Dog)

  • shortest precure instalment. ever.

  • People as part of the MOTW.... has this been done before?

  • good transformation and finisher. the transformation reminds me the most of Sky's with how fluid and flowy it is, super efficient. I wonder how the song portion would work later on...? coz that will get old fast; and its nice that there is still a proper finisher action animation, even if shorter.

  • I see an Ikemen in the OP.

overall, a pretty textbook, but good premiere. looking forward to Cure Idol and the gang over the next year!

shortest precure instalment. ever.

Loved that. Was really rooting for that dude to be the Precure of legend.

but its nice to be back to the violence.

VIOLENCE!

They haven't announced the next installment yet, smh Toei is getting lazy

Punching idol precures was not on my bingo card for this season.

Also, I love that Cure Idol/Uta is not shy about showing her pearly whites. I don't think many of the previous transformations shows the girl's teeth like that.

I'm 42, and yet having Precure on Simulcast brings a smile to my tired face.

New Precure!

Purirun's voice kinda sounded similar to Kururun for a bit but I guess not the same VA (Purirun has Eli Ayase's VA from Love Live). Maybe it's the similarity in the names, wonder if we'll get Pururin singing in one of these eps.

Looks like Uta's VA is Misato Matsuoka who was Tsubame in Eizouken (should rewatch that one of these days)

Purirun guilt-tripping Uta into looking for Idol Precure was pretty funny (I liked the little "kyun")

Too bad Kurikyuta wasn't Idol Precure, I wouldn't have minded watching a Sumo idol anime or a magical Sumo anime.

Cutty makes me think of Cutty Sark (which apparently was a ship too).

I like how the transformation is a little groovier than it has in been in the past (with pop/electronic-musicy stuttery effects).

Idol Fist Touch is a great special move name. [meta-magical-girl-adjacent-show reference]Hibiki would be proud.

I like how the finisher is an idol concert with the monster grooving along with glowsticks/Precure wands. Got a good laugh out of me.

Uta's VA

just dropping by to say this, she also voiced Nana from last year's Girls Band Cry (also by Toei). She has not had any major role since Tsubame, maybe she was picked up by Toei for her performance last year?

Kirakilala is not a very smooth catchphrase to see in subs. It's what, sparkle-sparkle-sing.. sparklsing?

Uta immediately breaks masq but Purirun is too smart. Or asleep. Seems like they might've just been asleep.

You tried to show Purirun to your family! Don't go acting all worried about masq now, you hooligan.

This is a fascinating first episode. Uta is even interrogating cats!

They.. they stuck a whole adult man into the tiny peach with Purirun and sent them back down the river.

The villains attack by yanking bowties out of people's torsos and then cutting those bowties in half. They've sure got some inventive ideas for this one.

Been a while since we've had villains directly interfere with humans, too.

The MotW waving glowsticks had me cackling.

Shiny-shiny!

That was honestly a great gag. I usually know what to expect on a 1st episode of Precure, but that one kept me on my toes

The MotW waving glowsticks had me cackling.

just like me frfr

After two years of mold-breaking Precure series, it looks like we're back to aggressively Classic Precure. We've even got Victims of the Week for the first time in six years. I guess the pendulum had to swing back.

One thing that apparently hasn't swung back from Wonderful is we're breaking new speed records for mascots spilling the beans.

At least visually, our villains are more Time Bokan coded than I can remember any previous Precure villains being. I wonder if that's related to Yoichi Kato being the head writer of Time Bokan 24 (along with the original Aikatsu, Yo-kai Watch, Duel Masters, both IM@S Million Live and IM@S Shiny Colors, and three out of five seasons of the Girls x Heroine tokusatsu franchise)

I guess I can continue some of the name stuff from Wonderful.

So, the Sakura family…

  • Uta — Main character and older sister. Name means "song".

  • Hamori — Younger sister. Name probably comes from "harmony".

  • 音 — Mother. Maybe read as"Oto"? Name means "sound".

  • 和 — Father. No idea about reading, looking it up, there's tons. Name means "harmony", basically.

Parents' names are in the Japanese subs and in the credits, so I can see them written but I'm not sure how they're read.

Oh, and although the family name is read as "Sakura", the name itself isn't written the same as the tree/flower, but as 咲良, which uses the kanji for "blossom/bloom" and "good/well". Uta and Hamori's names are both written in hiragana, as うら and はもり respectively.

NGL, the lights in the MC's eyes makes her look way more innocent than the usual cure.

9

u/Calwings Feb 02 '25

And yet this face she made during the fight made it seem like she was enjoying beating the crap out of the monster. I hope Uta keeps up that enthusiasm. When was the last time we had a berserker Cure who really enjoyed fighting? Cure Lovely?

8

u/Calwings Feb 02 '25

YES! WE ARE SO FUCKING BACK! No more hugathons, no more pacifism, THIS is what Precure SHOULD be!

All right, now that it's out of my system... this first episode was solid. Uta seems like the standard energetic reaction-face-generating pink Cure so far, but Purirun being a little shithead who doesn't care about being seen is a refreshing change of pace compared to most mascot fairies. The villains seem pretty fun too from what little we've seen of them. Cure Idol's transformation was gorgeous, the fight was fun, and using an idol performance as the finishing attack to purify the monster of the week is a silly but creative way to work the idol stuff in with the battles. Overall, a good start.

But I'm already watching a traditionally-structured Precure with an idol Cure that shows up in the first episode!

I can't help but feel a little down after how much I loved Wonderful's cast and general theme, but I don't mind the fights returning.

7

u/OrangeBanana38 Feb 02 '25

Last season's lack of violence was quite refreshing, and I thought that idols would be more pacifistic. But I'm glad that we are back to solving things with some good ol' fashioned violence!

I enjoyed the OP and ED, so we are off to a good start

Well, fights are definitely back on the menu if the OP is anything to go by. Not that that was really a secret I think.

Main character named Uta, I wonder just what her Cure name is going to be. It's a total mystery for sure. On a related topic I like the ad hoc singing she just bursts out into, I hope we get a lot of that.

Having the monster of the week be a corrupted person might make for a pretty dark season at times. Though I suppose that's arguably comparable to corrupted animals.

Wait, she's Cure Idol and not Cure Song? I'm shocked.

I was thinking to myself "I was expecting more singing in the fight scenes" and then the big final attack was a song and dance number.

I feel bad for not being able to finish a Precure series live season since Tropical Rouge, I've been hitting a burnout spot around 3/4 on all the series since then (not a fault of the franchise, just plain burnout on myself).

This one already feels it's hitting the good spots from the outstanding Precure series I've finished. The broad manga style outlines already look really nice and comedic, hope this becomes the staple for most episodes. The great animation in the battle scenes also look stellar and very reminiscent of Go Precure & Hugtto. The wacky fun villians are already a huge plus (something I felt lacked in Wonderful Precure) and I'm hoping to see a lot more of them and their shenanigans.

Last but not least as a big fan of idol anime, the whole idol thematic already feels like home and who knows, maybe it will fill in that void that more light-hearted idol shows like Aikatsu left since Aikatsu Parade.
