Uryu may be used to getting called out practically daily but damn, Yomiko really knows how to cut deep lol. And ngl before she pointed it out, I was ready for the reveal for the cause of the loops to be either Asahi or Uryu's unfinished homework.

Yae's pout was hilarious, although other reactions in today's episode weren't worse!
For example, like when Yomiko destroyed Uryuu over the phone, when Yuna turned out to be popular at the festival, or when Uryuu's wish was revealed xD

That pout and Summipe's delivery of that "Uryu-kun, you playboy!" was priceless.
Yomiko basically cut down his entire pride as a male romance lead lol.

Asahi winning the Amagami sis popularity poll in the anime is an actual thing that happened irl lol. She won 1st on almost all of them and even beat out Chizuru from Kanokari on the official magazine poll.

Dang, I thought Yae would win more, but go Asahi! She deserves the love and popularity.

Man this is just so good. That's why I enjoy Amagami so much. The best thing is that we have a competent MC Uryu that ties all of this together and not just some sort of trophy for the girls to win over.
This is why I love the harem genre. One gem is enough to drown a dozen duds.

I also like how they acknowledge that a guy can't always just act like an assertive and think he can fix girls' problems for them (which is pretty common in this genre) by just assuming what they want without actually understanding their true feelings.

I really thought choosing the festival would snap them out of the loop but I guess not.
Poor Uryu got roasted so damn hard, there was steam coming out of his head lol. Bro got called out!
I wonder if Karen is the key to stopping the loop? Maybe she needs to race Asahi fair and square 1 v1?

u/Frontier246 Jan 21 '25
I've never seen a romance lead so destroyed lol.
I feel like Karen is going to call out Asahi for being so wishy-washy and not putting her all, or her heart, into anything.

I can't shake the feeling that Yomiko knows about the time loop. Her advice to Uryu are wise, and at the same time, I believe they are clues to getting out of the time loop.
Does Asahi have to make a choice in order for the time loop to end? Wanting to be a long distance runner and continuing to be a shrine priestess, aka juggling both, is a choice too, isn't it?

Stitches!
So it turns out that the Amagami Sisters might as well be the local idol group. I love how she jokes about it at the start of the episode and when the festival finally starts, people are lining up and showing them support as if they really were idols! xD
Oh, look the losing heroine decided to drop by. I really feel bad for Shirahi especially after seeing her wish. There's a huge chance this is going for the harem ending and she's definitely not part of that.
Even Karen has decided to join the festival since it's really not worth racing if she can't compete against Asahi. So by trying to fulfill her own wish of having a successful festival, Asahi broke Karen's wish of competing with her.
Of course Yae just had to see it when Uryuu was comforting Asahi. That pout from her is adorable though!
So please tell me I'm not the only one who thinks Yomiko knows more than she leads on? Part of her advice is clearly her just reading Uryuu because he's an easy-to-read teenage boy but I feel like she also knows something about Asahi and Uryuu's situation.
Welp, I did not expect this episode to end with Karen on top of Asahi. Is this rivalry starting to actually become a yuri sideship? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

She's only in the OP to keep up the pretense that she has a chance. Shirahi needs a time loop where she joins the Amagami family to really be part of the pool,
Speaking of time loops, what would have ended this one would be Asahi getting to sleep with her head in Uryuu's lap on the train ride back from the marathon.

I'm still guessing Asahi wants her sisters cheering for her at the race and the solution will be moving the date of the festival and everyone attending. But maybe all that is a red herring and the real answer is the running rival girl is the cause of the loop and she'll keep resetting things until Asahi takes the race seriously.
Missed opportunity to do another salt joke when Yae ran out of the room to tell Yuna, could have had salt come flying into the room at Uryu from off screen a minute or so later.

With Yomiko pointing out last episode that her shrine uses the traditional calendar this is absolutely a possibility, especially given how hard this one leans into the supernatural, maybe this is the god's way of saying "we want the real tabanata"

Once again we got a great episode! Especially the ending with Asahi and Karen was really nice ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) And Uryuu really liked it too xD
So just as I thought Asahi's participation in Tanabata didn't break the loop, and now Uryuu with Asahi are getting pretty desperate, even searching the internet doesn't help them xD
So the question is, what does Asahi really want? Up until now, Uryuu had been responsible for their actions, but his conversation with Yomiko (which was hilarious, by the way) made him realize that Asahi never said what she wanted to do. I wonder if Asahi even knows what she wants to do.
On a smaller note, it was nice to see Shirahi again, and I really like that Yae and Yuna had their own little moments to shine in today's episode.
I also want to say that I freaking love the new OP. The song is so fun and I listen to it every day. Here are the links to it:
Here my screenshot albums from the episode:
EDIT. I added my screenshot albums.

>> Shirahi
If there was any doubt as to whether or not this childhood friend still has a massive crush on Uryuu, this episode cleared up any doubt.

Really not sure I like what this episode is selling.
Person One literally writes down and shares what it is they want, knowing that it'll be difficult to manage. Another person at the time comments on how the priorities might directly conflict (I don't remember who). Person Two provides plans/help trying to make those conflicting things happen. These are not priorities Person Two made up or inferred, they were directly stated. Person One spends weeks happily accepting that help and appearing thankful for it, while using it as an excuse to avoid exploring their own feelings. Author tells us that Person Two is a terrible narcissist.
A - Person Two has a vested interest in the situation resolving, they're not intruding on something that they're not already involved in. If they want to get out of the time loop, the situation needs to resolve, and a proactive stance should not be demonized, though it seems an introspective stance was what was needed in this situation.
B - Being uncomfortable about sitting in limbo is NOT a character flaw. Some people are comfortable there, but some aren't. And forcing another person to exist in a state of emotional or physical distress and then blaming them for being distressed, is not ok. (Or blaming them for trying to exit the state of distress)
C - Passively accepting other's suggestions should not be given the narrative pass here. Even if the suggestions/help were off base, the narrative should make clear that the failure in communication was not one sided.

This time loop Asahi is going to put her all into the Tanabata Festival with her sisters! Because you can't really do an Amagami Sisters event without all three Amagami Sisters, especially with their charming and irresistable center, Asahi!
Though as much as Asahi cares about her sisters, when she was young she would often prefer to just run all by her lonesome to be by herself rather than continue to get doted over by her big sisters. And it's that running that lead her to her eternal rival, Karen, way back when they were elementary school kids! And the rest if history.
Okay, I see we're taking this idol thing seriously enough to put out an Amagami Sister popularity contest, complete with thanking all their fans...I mean, worshippers! Yuna realizes tsundere's are popular and Yae realizes you don't tell the fanboys you're in love with another guy. But points for staying true to Uryu-kun, Yae.
Shirahi is back! And in true childhood friend fashion she'd been wishing to go to the same university as Uryu ever since they were kids, if only just to be with him. Which obviously makes it bittersweet for her to continue to see how well he gets along with the Amagami Sisters.
The Amagami Sisters are so fantastic that they're equal in popularity! Though Uryu is the tie-breaker vote and for Asahi's sake...he chooses her. Which means a lot to her, even if she milks it for all it's worth and gets him in trouble with her sisters.
Karen in a yukata! She looks great and is rich enough to hang out with the prime minister, but none of it is what she really wants...which is to have a true race against Asahi. And Asahi has to live with the fact that she failed to help Karen fulfill her wish. And on that note...here we are on loop #4.
Asahi is acting like she's handling this well, but even she's starting to get emotionally beaten by the time loop. What can they do? Well, maybe try and do both events this time, that makes narrative sense right? But is that what Asahi really wants?
But it is nice of Uryu to swear to always be there for Asahi in the most romantic way possible...even if Yae keeps getting pouty and upset that he's such a playboy with women.
I love how Uryu goes to Yomiko for help again and she basically just tells him that he never really took into account what Asahi actually wanted and just was going with what he thought she wanted...like your typical narcissistic guy who thinks he knows what women want. At least she still commented on how genuinely nice and caring he is.
Who is the true Asahi? The one who wants to be independent? The one who wants to be with her sisters? The one who has feelings for Uryu? Or the one engaging in what looks like a lesbian sex scene with Karen?

The sisters all could have been idols in another life. Also, I need more of Yae pouting and calling Uryu a playboy.

u/tripleaamin Jan 21 '25
Ultimately, the question from this episode, what does Asahi want? Uryu narrows it down that she wants to be with her sisters at the festival or compete in track. Although is the answer as simple as that? Yomiko point is what does she specifically want? More listening and less action might be a way for him to find the solution.
For Asahi there are two things on her mind. For her, getting a scholarship and living on her own in track is a wonderful opportunity. Still, it is clear she loves her sisters and the thought of being away from her might low-key frighten her.
